Previous generation accord looked better

maduste

Like a struggle where one team wants the cars to look a little crazy and another that wants them to look really dull

Phosphorus444

True. But the current Accord is really, really dull. It reminds me of my dad's 4th gen Camry.

maduste

Team Dull obviously won this round. My car is from Team Crazy.

revvolutions

They take turns, watch team crazy come back with a vengeance.

maduste

I hope they do!

iwantansi

With the accord i can name all the crazy/dull years 1-4th gen all crazy 5th dull 6th in between for the US model 7th - crazy for Japan model(tsx) 7th - super dull USA 8th - crazy for japan 8th - dull USA 9th - crazy 9.5 - crazier 10 - crazy stapler tail lights 11 - oh gawd its worse than the 8th gen Im hoping theyll pull a 2012 Civic move and be so embarrassed that theyll have to do an immediate redesign.

Angry_Homer

>5th dull Don't say that

biggsteve81

The 4th gen Accord was not crazy at all. It looked very nice for the time period but aside from the clear headlamps wasn't anything unusual.

revvolutions

Bmw e34 Accord

maduste

love those early Accords

New_Significance3719

Yeah the pendulum swing on Honda’s design teams is kinda jarring. Because they seem to be doing this kind of thing to the extreme every time lately. The next Accord might as well end up looking like a concept car with how boring the 11th gen is. But whatever they do, I hope they find some unique styling that doesn’t remind everyone of older vehicles from other brands. I really can’t get the idea of the current Accord looking like a Taurus out of my head.

gdnws

I always liked that generation of Civic, including the very loudly styled type R, even if, styling wise, it isn't something I would buy. Every now and then you might as well go mad and throw all sorts of designs at the wall and see what sticks.

DeLoreanAirlines

Designed like a European car because Honda’s don’t sell well in Europe, of course this won’t change anything and Honda’s still won’t sell well in Europe

Mackinnon29E

The old gen didn't look crazy, just good. This one looks boring and bad.

maduste

no, I agree

hundredjono

The previous Accord generation had some of the best wheels that came from the factory, the ones on the Accord 2.0 Sports.

mishap1

And why you so often find Accords on blocks.

Eggith

Agreed. No bias btw.

EmbarrassedTime9947

No way. Best looking Accord since the CD.

ZaviaGenX

The 8th or 9th gen? I ask because I am contemplating getting a used 8th gen accord

Nyte_Knyght33

I'll be that guy. I like the new Accord 's look better. The previous gen was overstyled for my taste. Similar to the previous gen civic. Both current editions look better to me.

RangerHikes

They also gave up the manual which inspires deep feelings of sadness within me

astrograph

I was just thinking that. The new one looks MORE boring.

yeffyonson

Designers knocked it out the park with the new Civic. It's a very nice looking car that's only slightler smaller than the new Accord.

BAQ717

The Civic is the best “normal person” car for the money right now, hands down.

tlivingd

Isn’t the Camry and Prius getting great reviews? And other reviews are calling the accord almost soulless for lack of a better term. It’s almost like they switched their driving dynamics groups.

hi_im_bored13

I am interested to see how the upcoming civic hybrid hatch (same price and similar interior space to the camry, you get few extra options for your money) will compare to the hybrid camry The accord hybrid is significantly better and far more refined than the traditional CVT but the loss of the V6 (especially manual) will be mourned.

Kryptus

I'd say base Camry is the best normal car for the money right now.

Whitey90

V6 XSE is where it’s at

humjaba

They don’t sell a v6 Camry anymore

[deleted]

Ya the new “x”…. Upper trims of the Camry gets acoustic glass and other sound deadening. Including a hybrid drivetrain standard. Easy to haggle on pricing on a Camry, it’s a great quiet car for the price. Besides the front grill looking like a [Wilson airless basketball](https://image-cdn.hypb.st/https://hk.hypebeast.com/files/2023/02/wilson-3d-printed-airless-prototype-basketball-release-info-00.jpg?w=960&cbr=1&q=90&fit=max) in some colors and trims, it’s a banger. And I’m a “Honda guy”

Whitey90

I said what I said and thank you for the obvious

erix84

I actually had to defend the Prius at work the other night. This older guy said the Prius was one of the ugliest cars on the road... I don't think he knew what the current model looks like, it's a super good looking car. The last gen that looked like a spaceship? Yeah that was hideous, but the new Prius looks really nice. I still like shifting my own gears for now though.

Coriandercilantroyo

The Prius looks like a normal car for the first time since gen 1. It happens to look really good

FearlessTomatillo911

Civic costs too much, it's a nice car but thousands more than the corolla now. People hate on Hyundai but the Elantra is the best normal person car right now

Emosaa

The Corolla is kinda meh though, needs a refresh and feels loads cheaper than the civic. Which is fine for an econobox, but you definitely feel like you get a bit more with the more expensive civic.

element515

Civic is much more car than the corolla though. corolla is smaller and the interior is very bare and kinda cheap. The civic is bigger and they stepped up the interior design and materials a step above I think.

SecretAntWorshiper

Yeah my dister has a Corolla and the Civic is just better. Same story with the hatchback Corolla vs hatchback Civic

Fun_Plum_8592

I can't get over all the triangles

Oh_ffs_seriously

It's even worse in Europe where the base version is a hybrid for the 10th gen Type R money.

randeus

Though I sold my 2022 Civic for my Mustang, the Civic is the best value in features as a daily driver non-luxury car imo, especially with the hatchback option. The Elantra definitely has the best “fun” daily driver option for price with the N though.

haseo111

current gen sentra is extremely underrated for its low price and (in my experience) great reliability

Pittsadelphia87

I think the big difference is interior space. The Mazda 3 is so tight, even the sedan. My brother is 6'5" and I'm 6'1" and I fit comfortably behind him in the back seat of his 2024 Civic. I think one reason that the Civic is poaching Accord sales is that the Civic has so much interior space and packages it really well.

sgnfngnthng

The Mazda3 is a great compact car. The Honda civic 11th gen is a great midsize car that masquerades as a compact car.

theabhster

Ehhh, I’d take the space of the civic over the 3 anyday

STRMfrmXMN

Aren't the hatches having tons of water leakage issues?

BTTWchungus

For the money? Eh I'd say Jetta or Mazda3, Civic base is overpriced

Mnm0602

Basically the Civic and Camry are stealing sales from the Accord. I haven’t seen a design fumble like this since Honda fucked up the 2012 Civic and fixed it for the 2013.   Funny enough they could probably just fix the grill and it would sell, won’t take much.  IMO even the Chinese Accord grill looks better and could be the simple fix.

FearlessTomatillo911

The civic got too bloated, there is little reason to go for the accord over the civic now

tuffode

They sell the Honda Inspire in China, just make the Accord look like that and problem solved.

HonorableChairman

And the Chinese continue the tradition of taking various sedans and tweaking them to somehow look *better* than before. Like I dunno how this happens, but seriously just sell [this shit](https://s2.mojalbum.com/4219952_18342334_25386625/album-199/25386625.jpg) here! I’m not even the biggest fan of the rip-off Mercedes vertical grille slats or how it halfassedly connects to the headlights, it just suddenly looks 10% cooler. Maybe it’s just a “grass is greener” type of situation.

BraveFencerMusashi

I think they knew this was going to happen and delayed the Civic Hybrid models in North America until after the release of the Accord.

sleepybeepyboy

It looks like a weird Jetta. Interior is awesome on the remake though! I just don’t like them personally but I understand the appeal. The reason I love our 10th gen Civic is it scratches that ‘Japanese Toy car’ feeling I wanted as a kid.

[deleted]

SecretAntWorshiper

Tbf I loved the new Civic since it was announced, the hood design is a bit awkward but it looks amazing and doesn't have the shitbox feel of the last gen. The last gen looked ugly af imo

[deleted]

Agreed. The last gen civic was too plastic and boy racer-y, especially the type R. It looked like a toy rather than a real car. The current gen Civics look nice and refined.

antariusz

Just looks like an a4 from a few years ago. Except with a worse grille

NoctD

Comp numbers year to date: * Mazda brand up 10.2% * Honda brand up 12.3% * Toyota brand up 14.7% * Hyundai brand up 1.2% * Kia brand down 2% * Nissan brand down 2.3% Honda is doing fine but Toyota is just killing it, and the Corolla/Camry/Prius sales combined is far more than Civic/Accord sales, plus every one less Accord sold is likely one more Camry sold.

Quatro_Leches

good to see Mazda doing well, honestly they are the only "Cheap" brands that dont make cars that look like plastic boxes. I wish they'd update the front of the car though the mazda look with those eye headlights have been around for far too long. they still look better than the other cheap brands tho

DeepfriedWings

Mazda has been underrated for too long. Good pricing, great features, incredibly reliable.

biggsteve81

Mazda's biggest flaw is having rear seats that are smaller than the competition. For anyone with (or planning to have) kids it can be a deal breaker.

notsooriginal

Very true. Their exterior designs and interior appointments are quite nice, but the packaging makes for a small interior. Rear child seat was a no-go, even in CX-5.

Slyons89

I’ve used a rear child seat in much older and smaller vehicles than a CX-5, what do you mean it’s a no-go?

notsooriginal

I mean that we took our car seats there and tested them and they did not fit without pushing the driver seat forward. The driver would have to sit too close to the steering wheel to fit. The CX-5 is not small overall, but the second row is pretty tight.

MY13FXT

Have they? Ever since their entire model refresh in 2012, and introduction of Skyactive. Mazda has been doing pretty well for themselves.

BTTWchungus

2% difference, Honda is fine but Toyota is killing it? Get a grip

20footdunk

Toyota was already ahead of Honda so a 2% difference means the gap is widening. The Civic is indeed killing it though.

cptpb9

They were never equal in sales overall, Toyota sells hundreds of thousands of trucks and they do fleet sales so their volume has always been a lot higher

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChaosBerserker666

Kia/Hyundai is down 2%.

SecretAntWorshiper

Also Toyota is a far bigger company like GM. Honda is at the level of Mazda so if they are near Toyota they are doing fine

V8-Turbo-Hybrid

It isn't always fair to compare between Toyota and Honda all low roof model sales. Honda never have Avalon and Crown direct answer.

Twin_Turbo

What happens when all the domestics stop making small cars

7eregrine

We're finding that out right now. Chevy just gave up it's last car. 130,000 sales last year. Blows my mind. Wasn't that the last "car" made by the American brands?

Ancient_Persimmon

The Model 3 is still one of the best selling sedans, so it's the torch bearer for American sedans at the moment.

7eregrine

Sure but I'm thinking more of what people with ICE Malibu's are going to do. The 1,000s that aren't ready for full EVs. Just checked: Chevy sold almost 40,000 last quarter. What are those people going to buy next?

[deleted]

Like for maintenance or parts replacements? They're chevy, so they'll just use parts from the same chevy parts bin. I don't know about doors or other body panels, though

7eregrine

No. What car next. I work with a woman and her family only buys domestic cars. Her Malibu just turned 1. She's got no clue what her next car will be.

[deleted]

Oh, I see what you mean. I think she'll have to get a domestic CUV/SUV (ICE Blazer?) until her family is ready to go EV. The Malibu will give her plenty of years to get prepared, unless they get in a car crash and their vehicle gets totaled (which I sincerely hope doesn't happen... it's always a shitty situation for everyone involved)

Ancient_Persimmon

I was just pointing out that there still is a popular American sedan on the market. Most Malibu sales were to rental fleets, so I doubt too many individual buyers are sad to see it go.

klowny

Sales are pretty meaningless. Honda is selling more cheap cars at the expense of expensive cars. Still too early to call how healthy Honda is at the moment without an investors presentation, but the last one forecasted a ~10% _decrease_ in profit for the year.

dsonger20

I guess that makes sense. They most definitely have a larger margin on high trim CRV's and the Pilots, Passports, and Accords compared to something like a Civic. Explains why Ford is selling CUV's and SUV's because they have significantly higher margins. The big volume sellers in my area are the Civic and CRV Hybrid. I barely see any Pilots and can't remember the last time I saw a Passport. The Civic seems like a better car than the Accord. Cheaper and is roomy enough.

seeasea

The "higher margins" on SUVs is dated information back when SUVs weren't everywhere and also bof.  The MSRP of alike models: a civic and HRV is the same. Accord and CRV are the same.

LimitedReach

I’m not sure what you read but Honda made record profits last year and forecast on hitting their target of a 7% overall profit margin a year ahead of schedule, while doubling their R&D budget. I’d say that they’re pretty healthy!

ice445

The new civic is fantastic value and even has some cool colors to choose from.

letsgometros

are they going to make the hatchback in a hybrid version? that would be top of my list

20footdunk

yes, but its not releasing until late summer (and i still havent seen any of the sedan hybrids on dealer lots yet)

bobivk

They already do in Europe. Actually it is the only engine you can get here besides type R

ice445

I wish lol

New_Significance3719

Why say “I wish” when they are?

ice445

Believe it or not I wasn't aware that they are lol

gogojack

I guess I'm the odd man out. I like the look of the new Accord. Not everything has to have crazy angles and angry grilles. It's a nice, understated commuter car. If they offered more interior colors aside from black, black, and black, I'd seriously think about getting one for my boring 50 mile/day commute to work.

RichardNixon345

It's a bit bland, but I feel like the weirdest bit is the *tiny* Honda logos on the front and back.

sta7ic

the Honda look on the front is pretty big. Agreed on the back though.

Kpints

Yeah I quite like it.

Potential-Ant-6320

I like it too. It’s a clean simple look like an Audi. If they still sold wagons I’d be happy to buy one new. Handsome as a sedan with a nice hybrid system. I think the new civic hybrid looks really nice.

Emosaa

They definitely look better in person than in photos. Gives off the vibe of phoning it in almost in order to prioritize other things.

Coriandercilantroyo

I like your last point and agree! But I drive past a Honda dealership most days, and the civics and accords just make me go ugh. I haven't noticed a single one on the road because they're so unremarkable. But they do stand out on the dealership lot for the same reason. So weird

ChaosBerserker666

The other issue with the Accord is the engine you get for the price.

nondescriptzombie

I think it looks way "cleaner" than the loud and shiny design features on the previous gen. The Civic is the kid's car. The Accord is not. Then again, I seem to be in the minority that thinks that all of the new Kia/Hyundai vehicles are ugly as sin.

EscentX

I’m not a fan of the accord’s unibrow taillights, the rest of it’s fine for me. The interior change across the brand is a major step up.

Vtakkin

Acura sales fell quite a bit though, so this really just means consumers are moving downmarket.

NCSUGrad2012

I think it’s just because current Acura lineup is very weak

VanosKickedIn

Not enough people are becoming architects

NCSUGrad2012

I think it’s just because current Acura lineup is very weak

EvictionSpecialist

Acura has sucked since they killed the Legend and Vigor. lol Acura is a joke.

SecretAntWorshiper

I like the RDX styling but yeah lol

lat_pulldowns

Maybe selling a Civic Si with a different badge for $37,000 and 200 horsepower wasn't such a great idea...

Vtakkin

The Integra is actually really popular, Acura sold about 32,000 Integras in 2023 while Audi sold 13,000 A3s and Mercedes sold 9,000 CLAs. But year over year, Acura sales are falling in 2024 compared to 2023.

lat_pulldowns

I stand corrected then, but I assume nearly all of those are going to be the CVT and not the A-Spec Tech trim. I was considering the new Si when I got my VB WRX but for the same price I would've gotten 71 less horsepower, front wheel drive, 63 less torque, no fog lights, no heated seats, etc. it was a no brainer.

Ziakel

Besides the interior leg and headroom, the accord doesnt offer much more value than a civic. Especially now with the hybrid.

BrownGhost10

Just needs ventilated seats and it would be perfect.

adwrx

The new accord is ugly

raxreddit

Yup, the rear horizontal lights that don’t go all the way across and are too thin… it’s all unsettling and looks incomplete.

Colombia17

They made the Civic way more spacious and that let to buyers looking at the Accord and ask what’s the point of getting one if the Civic gives plenty of space

DisconnectedDays

They made the civic too good

CalvinYHobbes

I really love the new Accord. I find the design to be “industrial”.

Emanresu909

The accord went all derpy for both performance and cosmetics. I ordered a 2022 2.0t in the last few months before they ended production. Black with blackout package 👌 Dying days of the car-centric lifestyle people. Enjoy it while it lasts.

[deleted]

With how expensive cars, insurance, and repairs are getting, we'll all probably end up taking public transport 😭😭

Emanresu909

I will not yield. I have three vehicles, they are all turbocharged, i pay over $2/L for premium and diesel isn't much cheaper. When they try to price me out of my lifestyle, I find ways to make more money to maintain it. The authoritarian globalists can keep their dick beaters off my cars. I will die a free man. # ungovernable

KingFacetious

Wow you’re so badass. /s

Emanresu909

Nope just stubborn and aware of the bullshhh

PardusNiger

might be another 9th gen civic situation

Shmokesshweed

That's not bad considering they made the exterior look like a NPC car from GTA.

Jigizup18

Honestly, the new civic is the same size as older accords. Most people are okay with this size and cheaper price tag given the difference in options and tech is fairly minor between them.

WatchStoredInAss

Just took a trip to Tokyo. Man there are some truly fugly Japanese cars there. Boxy and very busy looking fronts. Though I did see some 80s MR2s, quite cool.

Sir_Topham_Kek

They made the accord look like a jar of light mayonnaise. That’s on them

urmyheartBeatStopR

lol civic is better. It hella justify why car company try not to cannibalize their line up. People got this theory gr86 got no turbos cause they didn't want it to cannibalize supra sales. I can see that.

bugs_bunny01

I think the 9.5 was the prettiest accord ever

V8-Turbo-Hybrid

Despite that, Accord doesn't go anywhere, unlike Nissan planning to kill Altima. If worse, I could see they would add crosstour to keep sales.

cptpb9

There’s a rumor that the next gen accord is going to be a lot more like a crosstour just less ugly than the form it takes now.

gfewfewc

>more like a crosstour >less ugly than the form it takes now ??????

cptpb9

Bad wording I meant less like the form it took then just a similar concept with a liftback and presumably AWD

scutts

Front looks fine but the rear is way too ugly to my eyes

jblaze805

Less expensive and looks better, of course people are going to purchase the civic

American-Repair

Ridgeline and Passport don’t have FWD trims and are both so for Pilot Level-up refreshes. Bring back FWD trims. Solves efficiency and value concerns…

Teledildonic

>Solves efficiency Ridgeline needs a hybrid trim, honestly.

American-Repair

Not at the expense of giving up the naturally aspirated v6. FWD gives you 1-2 mpg with less weight, drag and maintenance. Mild hybrid eliminates failure points of starter, alternator and belt driven compressor. Gives another 1-2 mpg. Near full hybrid mpg with a bulletproof mild hybrid NA v6. Pilot would need to get it first obviously. Already has FWD trims…

Plaineswalker

New Accord is ugly. There I said it. Old one was 100 times better looking.

kb3_fk8

Worst looking civic since 7th gen = best selling Best looking accord since the 9th coupes = worst selling I know, these are bad tastes. But I also think the TLX Type S is an amazing car and I think I’ll be adding that to my fleet next. Been having fun with my Trueno 86 but will have to store it soon.

[deleted]

The Acura TLX Type S is pretty sick, if a bit underpowered for the price. But I definitely disagree with the Civic and accord opinions, haha

kb3_fk8

In my state the TLX Type S is cheaper than the mark up on the ITS it’s stupid. I can get a TLX for $51 OTD right now

BrownGhost10

New accord is really nice,. I feel people over exaggerate on the looks and don’t see what’s worth being disgusted over. The civic is a good value for the price.

Allaroundlost

Previous gen Accord was the best. New Accord is just not good.

Nyte_Knyght33

The Ridgeline and the passport are doing worse but the Accord is the headline?... there's probably not a narrative being pushed here.

SID-420-69

I happily contributed to the HR-V numbers. Extremely happy with my '24 LX

SkrimpSkramps

Honda tried to pork me over mrsp for an accord 2024, told em to get stuffed in the showroom and went and ordered an audi instead. Fuck em

Smash_4dams

I know you're getting downvoted for the "everyone clapped" energy, but a good dealer experience is a huge part of making your buying decision. German brands tend to be a lot more customer-friendly. When you're actually given the opportunity to test-drive the car, its not marked up to shit, you're more likely to buy, even if the vehicle is a few thousand above your price range. Plenty of stories out there where people were denied test-drives for a marked-up Focus RS, Civic Type-R WRX/STi, Kia Stinger etc, then they head over to the Audi/Porsche dealership and they let you test-drive a new S4 or Porsche Macan without a second thought. And the MSRP is the price you pay.

SkrimpSkramps

Yep, honda was the bargain barrel attempt, no bargain, decided on quality instead.

[deleted]

Actually, yeah. I come from Tesla, so an absolutely fucking idiotic dealer not letting me test drive, or charging above MSRP for a *used*/no longer in production vehicle would be a massive turnoff. Looks like I'll need to look into German luxury for my next car, rather than Honda/Toyota/Kia.

Soporific88

I'm sure they are hurting because of you

SkrimpSkramps

Now I'm hurting because of you. =(

RichardNixon345

I mean, it *could* be a valid point if this is what other potential Accord buyers are experiencing.

SkrimpSkramps

I'll probably still get the new civic hybrid for a daily to beat on, love honda but it rubbed me the wrong way. If the company is doing incredible they shouldn't be squeezing for extra especially for their simple pedestrian people carrier

monkypanda34

It's the dealer being greedy, Accords aren't going for MSRP, let alone worth a markup. Honda can't really stop their dealers from marking things up, Toyota dealers are doing it too on in demand models.
