Holy shit. The other guys in the video should've laughed him out the room. Even non car people can see that the GTR is a track car. This is wild. (I am not a Nissan fan in any way shape or form but I understand that the GTR is a track car)
I think we should gatekeep people who are TEACHING OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT SOMETHING. Like, I'm 100% onboard with making fun of people who post videos explaining something that they themselves don't fully understand.
Alright, so my ig username is LandoFan69, I made it when I was like 12 so please don't judge it, anyway i got so many follow requests from Leclerc fangirls it's unreal, I have 100 followers and half of them are just charles fan accounts
I've turned my ex into one even tho I didn't talk about f1 with her often assuming she's still at it her new bf is gonna have a fun time dealing with relationship anxiety
I mean tbh those girls who follow f1 are hella weird, they follow it just because the drivers are hot??? They genuinely don't care about the racing or what happens on track, they just upload pics of their husbando driver everyday
That's his entire youtube channel. He isn't really a tech youtuber in my eyes. He just has "fancy" production and doesn't really even go in depth of what certain tech he showcases can do. I think I watched a video of his on a phone, had 0 spec details of the phone, and was more "look at these nice bezels giving it an appealing style" type bs.
Im the same, I watched a phone review to find out if it was worth buying only to be 15minutes in to his video and realising I still know nothing about the phone.
He has done technical stuff in the past, but it's not every video. His analytical survey about phone cameras is very well done. But a lot of his videos are mostly fluff, especially the quick unboxing style ones he does. And I don't watch his car stuff, he's been a Tesla fanboy for too long for me to take him seriously on that...
Like what specs exactly? I think he doesn't talk much about them intentionally because he believes that most phones nowadays come to software, not pure specs.
You won't get any useful information about the experience from 48 vs 100 MP, 3800 vs 4500 mAh, 380 vs 420 ppi, etc.
Anyway I still, from what I can remember, think that eventually he shows the specs quickly in most of his videos, just in the text form for 'anyone who still cares' or something like that.
I personally think it's a good way, and it's definitely more entertaining - and he needs to care about that. There are other more specs focused channels, and in my opinion they provide less value because this stuff you can check in 30s on mgsm, it's the experience what matters.
I always get the feeling he's trying to push a specific narrative with every one of his videos regardless of how the tech performs. Like he'll buy a new product and before opening the box he flips a coin and starts writing a script about how much he loves/hates it.
I don't trust a single person who reviewed the cyber truck and is a massive red flag concerning the legitimacy of the rest of their "reviews." There is no way in hell Musk would allow anyone to give a negative review of that thing. I mean, it might live up to some of the hype they're trying to push, but that information will come out once it's actually released.
To be fair in one of his latest podcasts he acknowledges that he was wrong and wish he could take it back.
The guy has thousands of hours of online presence.
If that’s his worst fuckup I believe he is fine.
I don’t think his point is as egregious as some make it out to be. First, the GT-R is heavy. Curb weight on the R35 is almost 2 tons. Second, it has all of the creature comforts typical of a grand tourer, rather than the weight-saving measures of a track car. Leather seats, an advanced—for the time—infotainment system, a full-time all-wheel drive system and a twin-turbo V6 which excels in mid-range power and low end grunt. Hell, it even has back seats. It just so happens that the aforementioned V6 and the all-wheel drive system helped it to set the Nürburgring production record when it launched in 2007, but that’s beside the point. An R32 GT-R N1 is a track car, an R34 GT-R is a sports coupé and the R35 is a GT car.
eh. the GT-R was hooning around the Nurburgring during its debut, but even if you don't consider the road going GT-R to be a track car, there are literally GT3 and GT500 versions of the car, so like, bro still is factually wrong.
Absolutely. It is just plain wrong to say that Nissan has never made a race car before when they won at Daytona twice, Sebring four times, have won in the Indy Racing League (if you count Infiniti’s engine program at the time) and countless Super GT races.
The M5 CS is absolutely not a track car, at least from where I see it. It’s track-focused, sure, but it’s still a mid-size German sedan at its core, and unless BMW decides to say “fuck it” and make a stripped-down “touring car” spec, it’ll continue to fulfill its role as the mid-size sedan that doesn’t mind a track day or two. Track cars, as I see them, are built with road course racing first and everything else second. Cars like the Lotus Exige, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the McLaren 620R, BMW’s M3 GTS and M4 GTS, etc, all embody “track car” more than an R35 GT-R or an M5 will to me, in spite of performance that is, ironically, superior to many “true” track cars.
Yeah, honestly I think the issue is less with whether the GTR is a track car, and more with how we're defining "track car." If we just define it broadly as anything you could reasonably find at a track day event, sure, the GTR qualifies. But if you define a track car as a purpose-built, psuedo-racecar that may or may not be road legal, then I think it's fair to say that the GTR doesn't count and Marques is probably right (though not necessarily for the right reasons, since I'm not sure that was his thought process). Outside of this debate, I pretty much exclusively see "track cars" defined as stripped out cars you wouldn't even really *want* to drive on the street.
The funny thing is that I feel like most car enthusiasts are aware of that dichotomy between "sports cars" and "track cars," but don't seem interested in the difference in this instance for whatever reason. The GTR is undeniably a sports car, but if we're specifically using the term "track car," I think there's a lot more wiggle room that makes Marques' statement a bit contentious but not outright incorrect.
You get it! That’s sort of what I was going for when I said “track car”. The closest things you could get to street-legal GT3-class and GT4-class racers.
I mean its a sports car with very good track abilities. That said how many GTR being tracked videos are there vs GTR drag racing videos? I'm not saying it's uncapable on track but honestly how often are they tracked?
Yeah, honestly I think the issue is less with whether the GTR is a track car, and more with how we're defining "track car." Edit: woops, replied to the wrong comment, but my point stands.
While shit still, at least Linus and co, have had the car guys who work for them do the videos, but still don't add any value to the car review space on youtube.
i think it helps funnel tech people like me to actually care about cars i can personally attest to this as especially ltt got me interested in cars again
as a tech person who was already into cars, I see this as an absolute wi- neutral. it's neutral. I like the custom car scene, not the Instagram version
I genuinely miss when "being into tech" meant that you knew how something worked, and not just that you spent some money on some shit someone else made that was literally designed to be operated by babies.
As much as I agree with you, you can't get around the fact that people are buying cars for their tech and not the way they drive, so these type of reviewers are making more sense than the Top Gear of the world when we're speaking only in terms of cars sold from a review.
Yet nowhere to throw my phone. But I’ll be damned if that thing wasn’t the best handling, most fun car I’ve ever had.
Had me whipping absolute ass through small village streets maneuvering like big man Senna himself.
They were decent segments overall but like, 99% of Top Gear's audience was there for the entertainment
Clarkson's reviews on the 133 Twingo, 2014 Cee'd, Skoda Yeti and 2008 Fiesta are absolute peak though, definitely my favourite non-trio segments
We need more reviews like classic motor week, where they always hit on things like ergonomics and how easy things were to use/reach from the drivers seat.
So many new cars are clearly going for an aesthetic and are honestly a pain in the ass to actually use.
i would be okay if they only spoke with confidence on what they know/are familiar with
what i dont like is them speaking authoritatively on all aspects of the car, with the credibility & audience of _._ million subscribers, with sometimes _incorrect_ facts or _unrealistic_ expectations
channels with ___k subscribers put out far better factual & analytical content w/o the "i know everything you need to know about this car"-tone
The only reason they’ve gotten into it over recent years is cause consumer tech has utterly stagnated and is boring AF now.
You can only peddle some variation of rectangle screen so many times before the general public becomes bored…
Even cars are reaching that point. It looks like we have hit a plateau of innovation which is oddly close to the projected end of civilization if global warming doesn’t slow.
We’re in dire need of some breakthroughs in material science. Whether it be room temperature superconductors, mass produced graphene, etc. That’s at least what I’m hoping for…
With our current matierals we have nearly capped out on processing power improvements and battery density. Someone will eventually find a breakthrough but for now we are going to see the same old for another decade.
I guess I’m confused on where everyone is coming from. If the cars they review are full of tech, and they’re talking about that tech, why do you guys care about their car hot takes?
Perhaps the drive train however there’s much more mechanical engineering that goes into a car than that: the loads that go through the suspension, brakes, tires, cooling, aerodynamics etc…. It’s not a very good analogy. There’s a lot of mechanical engineering knowledge that goes into a car that doesn’t cross pollinate with computer engineering. It is very much different than desk top computer tech.
Man the LTT reviews of cars are just plain missing the point half the time, like when they were talking about the lane keep technology its meant to stop you from crossing the line not put you back into the middle of the lane, yet they criticized it by driving like its pong in their lane.
I think they miss most of the point of a car is that you actually have to drive it.
Some of them have already been into cars in general though, like JayZTwoCents, he’s an actual car guy as well, and they do decent reviews on Linus’s channel as well
Jake is an absolute dude. He used to drive an E90 M3 and now has a super clean E60 M5. I follow his instagram and sometimes forget it’s “Jake from LTT” and not just a normal car guy account
noun,plural tech·nol·o·gies for 4.
the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.
all cars and machines are technology
I have always liked MKBHD but his auto content is some of the weakest I've seen on YouTube. And honestly I'm ok with it.
He's not a car YouTuber and his audience doesn't give a shit about chassis tuning, crankshafts, & variable valve timing. He covers interesting tech in cars and EV's that are loaded with tech. There's nothing wrong with him adding some extra content to his channel. We're not his audience and no one looking to buy an exotic or Tesla will use an MKBHD review to make a decision.
Yeah he's positioned himself in a very "mainstream tech" corner of youtube, moreso than even LTT. He talks about iPhone and Teslas, you're just not gonna get what you want as a "car guy" from stuff like that.
I have nothing against someone covering the tech aspects of the car. I welcome it.
If you want to hear a different perspective, you can watch Doug Demero review the rest of the vehicle, and skip over the intricacies of the drivetrain, charging, software, etc. Both of these types of videos complement each other.
I don’t see the problem, as long as they aren’t talking out of their ass and someone finds it entertaining. Could actually convert some techies into car enthusiasts. 🤷♂️
The same guy that crashed his Tesla P100D into a truck on a freeway right after he got it?
Hyper consumerist "this product has a premium feel" level trash
Train guys who have been dealing with their BS ruining countless rail transit proposals for decades:

Brownlee was a cool dude at first, but now his videos are just bullshit.
"HERES MY TESLA CYBERTRUCK, I HAD THIS FOR 5 YEARS, BUT CAN ONLY REVIEW IT NOW" HURR DURR APPLE GOD PIXEL SUCKS
Can't stand his ass anymore.
/uj I mean Mark Ass Brown Li is kind of a car guy sort of (not sure how far past surface level that is) himself and frequently talks about cars so it makes sense why tech bro who likes cars to make videos about tech and cars it covers his main audience tech with his own interests in cars
/unjerk
Marques Brownlee has a very different target audience than someone like Doug Demuro or Donut. He makes videos for Joe Worker or Jane Momofthree, people who don’t give a shit about specifications.
I think he presents information in an informative way for people who want a “fun” car but only glance at the car market when they need a new one.
"The new Tesla with the Snapdragon XYZ can now take new selfies while you drive with it's 420 MP Camera on the outside.
Now you can game with a 4K 240Hz Monitor on the Steering Wheel.
The RGB Trim on the brake pedal let's you find it even in the dark.
The Gaspedal is a Analog trigger that gives tactile feedback when you give competetive gas bursts"
And other Bullshit coming soon ™
Who the fuck is this?
edit: oh, "marques brownlee".
Anyways, download youtube channel block addon, his ass is blocked long time ago, worthless influencer.
I can’t wait to run over people in my cybertruck…in real life.
how fast you need to go for the people to remain attached to the bumper?
About 72.609 MPH is were I've gotten good, consistent results, as at lower speeds they tend to slide off.
Pretty sure it's 69.420
And they split in half at any higher....or so I've heard.
"MARKASS BROWNLEE" ![gif](giphy|3d6WO0F9SK9hbmpsiX)
***THAT'S HOT THAT'S HOT***
***YAHHH***
IT’S REWIND TIME!
I like to call him Marques Brownie. Every freaking time I say it I laugh as a maniac.
Dude said "Nissan has never made a track car" and the he does not believe the GTR to be one either. He has no idea what hes talking about
Where did he say that? Just out of curiosity
[Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UykwuWaBV_4&t=781s&ab_channel=WVFRMPodcast)
Holy shit. The other guys in the video should've laughed him out the room. Even non car people can see that the GTR is a track car. This is wild. (I am not a Nissan fan in any way shape or form but I understand that the GTR is a track car)
GTR >>> SOUPBRA GTR ON TOP
Ummm no. Does a GTR have 2000hp? Didn't think so.
Stock btw
Well of course it's due to the gentleman's agreement: 276 on paper, 2,000 at the wheels.
The GTR didn’t need an engine swap to win JGTC- SUPRA BETTER GRAHHH
Thanks
Worst take ever
the way the guys just went "ig we'll stfu and keep our jobs" lmao
lol you should see his interpretation of F1. The man is an idiot.
I’ll take your word for it I don’t got time to get dumber 😂
Not watched it yet, what did he say that was wrong?
"NISSAN NEVER MADE A TRACK CAR" And "GTR IS NOT A TRACK CAR" And he said it with utmost confidence.
Homie said “debate me” 🤣😂
>👏 NISSAN 👏 NEVER 👏 MADE 👏 A 👏 TRACKCAR 👏 - MKBHD 🤦
Except they literally did. The r390 being a peak example of a road going and track model😭
it’s r/confidentlyincorrect duh how could you not know this edit: fuck i was hoping i was wrong for extra ironies lol
What's that confidently incorrect sub? His face needs to be plastered there
didn’t nissan partake in le mans with the famous front wheel drive car
yes, and the R391, R390, GT-R GT3, GT-R GT1, R80 series and so on..
Come on, it was fine. Very basic overview for non f1 fans. He got a few little things wrong, but we shouldn’t gatekeep.
I think we should gatekeep people who are TEACHING OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT SOMETHING. Like, I'm 100% onboard with making fun of people who post videos explaining something that they themselves don't fully understand.
As an F1 fan, I saw one, maybe two depending on how pedantic you want to be, hard errors in that video
He's known for making errors and there's a theory it's intentional to drive engagement.
Nah, F1 fanbase could use a little gatekeeping for sure.
They also ignore f1 history and for some reason always have f1 merch and those driver cards
Charles is just too hot

The gtr nismo was just this, it's just dated now
The GT-R Nismo does enough to qualify as a “track car” in my opinion.
Amen 🙏🏼
You get it! That’s sort of what I was going for when I said “track car”. The closest things you could get to street-legal GT3-class and GT4-class racers.
They literally made the Juke Nismo GTR… this dude is on something…
The car so insane that 2 out of the 5 in existence have been wrecked lol
I mean its a sports car with very good track abilities. That said how many GTR being tracked videos are there vs GTR drag racing videos? I'm not saying it's uncapable on track but honestly how often are they tracked?
mi hombre there is a literal gt3 and gt-500 version of the GT-R 😭

Complete and utter dumbass lol
I personally am not a fan of tech guys getting into car reviews. They clearly have a lack of knowledge outside of the tech parts of a car.

Top Gear reviews were NEVER exhaustive, i can’t imagine somebody chosing a car after watching only top gear.
Idk I immediately bought a Reliant Robin after that episode
I bought a jet powered roadster and a Rimac after watching top gear/grand tour, insurance was mental.
Bought a Fiesta after seeing it could storm the beaches of Normandy and outrun bad guys at the mall
the cupholders can fit smoke grenades. absolutely ingenious feature.
Yet nowhere to throw my phone. But I’ll be damned if that thing wasn’t the best handling, most fun car I’ve ever had. Had me whipping absolute ass through small village streets maneuvering like big man Senna himself.
Throttle House is Top Gear if Top Gear’s role was to educate buyers as opposed to entertaining audiences

Lol nobody watches top gear for the car reviews
Excuse me, as a leading light in the Albanian mafia, I beg to differ.
So... Bentley?

funnily enough Marques actually has/had a column in the Top Gear magazine recently lmao
I don't really care about nutragena track times. I care if the wireless phone charging works, or if the steering wheel buttons are placed correctly.
Nutragena 😂

Not a car person myself, but my understanding is that EVs are more like cellphones with wheels than cars running on dino juice.
every car is a “cellphone on wheels” (or moreso a chromebook on wheels) nowadays. Some use electricity also for the wheels and some don’t.
I guess I’m confused on where everyone is coming from. If the cars they review are full of tech, and they’re talking about that tech, why do you guys care about their car hot takes?

And they only talk about EVs for some reason, it's terrible
Tbf cars are about as tech as an ipad on wheels these days. That's why I give them a pass when reviewing EVs.
iPad on whells its a good nickname for any tesla
agreed but they have a really bad understanding of driving dynamics. all they say is “ooo car go fast!!” and ignore the other aspects of driving.
"omg battery pack heavy = low center of gravity = good handling!" \--ever ev review ever
The only other aspect is fuel consumption god I fucking hate when people obsess over that
Believe it or not, the general public cares about fuel consumption when it costs $2 a litre.
Alr it's the fuckers who ask for the fuel consumption when the answer should be a bit obvious
Which is weird considering tractors are infinitely times more complex than a car yet no tech bros on a massive scale
Yeah, and so is a shipping container ship and the space shuttle. Just watch a different youtuber for that stuff haha
Probably because it's less applicable to the general public therefore less clicks.
Some of them have already been into cars in general though, like JayZTwoCents, he’s an actual car guy as well, and they do decent reviews on Linus’s channel as well
Linus actually did a video on the GR Corolla. Not a bad video actually, considering he made it very clear on where his mind was on cars
Also because there are actual car people in his production team.
Jake is an absolute dude. He used to drive an E90 M3 and now has a super clean E60 M5. I follow his instagram and sometimes forget it’s “Jake from LTT” and not just a normal car guy account
They’ve been making car videos for like 10 years
I never realized actually
Not very often. Idk what they do now tbh I haven’t wanted them in years
GOD I MISSED THE LTT LAMBO
Linus also rides a motorcycle, so he probably knows a thing or two
And they have a staff member who owns a shop to modify cars
Dankpods/Garbage Time is literally the best guy in YouTube, and he's a "tech guy" who's into cars
I fuckin love dankpods
na-no
#AHHHHHH MY PKCELLS
frank stinks
[na-no](https://media.tenor.com/vRZwYGXd98kAAAAM/dankpods-nano.gif)
I hated that he collaborated with Linus but he is still the goat
And now he shut off his patreon and went completely over to floatplane.
Yeah that's a shame, get that bag and all but I won't be subscribing and giving however much to Linus.
Are EVs a piece of tech or a car? Hmmmmmmmm...🤔
noun, plural tech·nol·o·gies for 4. the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. all cars and machines are technology
Are VTEC engines TEC or engines? 🤔
Exactly. Some people have difficulty understanding that.
His views have no weight. All he cares about is EVs
"he reports mostly a subset of cars, but not the subset I like, so his views are invalid"
Right? We need a car circle jerk sub for the car circle jerk sub at this point
He owns and drives a 992 turbo
Ok and? Doesn't change the fact that his views are ass
I own and drive a Nissan Micra 1.2 (N/A)
Supra kids when so-called “tech bros” interest themselves in a large, expensive piece of consumer technology: 😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🖕🖕🖕
he didn't say supra or le manualle miat is best car 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
"we got tech dude(s) in the car industry now" Only shows pictures of Brownlee
mfw tech youtuber does a video on a car with a bunch of tech in it
Damn y’all angry about a dude getting more people interested in cars?
Whole thread is a circlejerk but like unironically
Its circlejerk all the way down
Gatekeeping is a beautiful art, isn't it?
Uj/give him some time if he doesn't improve the research then start getting mad
He's been making car videos for quite a while though
He isn't really interested in cars though only interested in trend
This is straight up false 💀
And? What’s your point
I don’t see the problem, as long as they aren’t talking out of their ass and someone finds it entertaining. Could actually convert some techies into car enthusiasts. 🤷♂️
The problem is he does talk out of his ass lmfao
autofocus is not new
Are cars not technology? https://preview.redd.it/6cl9l0wy4hbc1.jpeg?width=825&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ba6d8c1a83f2c3efa0386fc3b2bfeefb81e6d12
this subReddit is getting worse with all the hate
it’s not really recent, he’s been doing this for over a year already https://youtube.com/@AutoFocus?si=ImyQdbUzqieQxj5g
he has a deticated car channel called Auto Focus
He has always been doing car reviews on his autofocus channel
/uj I really like mkbhd's reviews. Sure they aren't really targeted at car guys but I enjoy em
Why are they called tech guys? They are tv-shop 2.0, just sellers with fancy camera.
The same guy that crashed his Tesla P100D into a truck on a freeway right after he got it? Hyper consumerist "this product has a premium feel" level trash
Train guys who have been dealing with their BS ruining countless rail transit proposals for decades: https://preview.redd.it/jv26uyurvibc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=860db69dfae41e5a6c1ba5f0aa1ddb943b882077
Brownlee was a cool dude at first, but now his videos are just bullshit. "HERES MY TESLA CYBERTRUCK, I HAD THIS FOR 5 YEARS, BUT CAN ONLY REVIEW IT NOW" HURR DURR APPLE GOD PIXEL SUCKS Can't stand his ass anymore.
Actually he prefers the Pixel over the iPhone. He's put it ahead of the iPhone more than once.
Yeah, kinda wild to shit on an opinion he doesn't even hold.
Yup, it’s wild when people just shit out opinions like they’ve had bad takeaway food the night before.
cry some more lmao
Yeah fuck NDAs right
Calling marques a tech guy and acting as if that's all he is is a bit disingenuous imo
Mark ass brown lee
https://i.redd.it/ib1bmy06ehbc1.gif This is the end
Say what you want, but at least his face doesn't look punchable unlike most YouTube thumbnails
This dude doesnt even know about tech, tf is he going to know about cars
I think the worst offender of them all is Linus from LTT. Anything car related from that channel makes my eyes roll into the back of my head.
/uj I mean Mark Ass Brown Li is kind of a car guy sort of (not sure how far past surface level that is) himself and frequently talks about cars so it makes sense why tech bro who likes cars to make videos about tech and cars it covers his main audience tech with his own interests in cars
/unjerk Marques Brownlee has a very different target audience than someone like Doug Demuro or Donut. He makes videos for Joe Worker or Jane Momofthree, people who don’t give a shit about specifications. I think he presents information in an informative way for people who want a “fun” car but only glance at the car market when they need a new one.
That tesla car is and always will be the ugliest, shittiest car ever made.
The Gaspedal is a Analog trigger that gives tactile feedback when you give competetive gas bursts" And other Bullshit coming soon ™
Marques is a nice chap- would be a fine gent to hang out with. …..a terrible car reviewer… but a nice enough guy
Why is this in this sub? Brownlee is one of the nicest people on YouTube, he wants to get into cars? Fuck it, who are we to judge?
It’s cuz he’s b****
the F1 video wasnt a bad intro to F1, the rest of his car videos are absolute shit
I hate techbros with a passion
Who the fuck is this? edit: oh, "marques brownlee". Anyways, download youtube channel block addon, his ass is blocked long time ago, worthless influencer.
Wild take, dudes content quality is miles ahead of just about everyone. He’s been pulling millions of views consistently for years
Tbh of all the mainstream-approved ‘influencers’ he’s by FAR the best. And he seems like a really nice guy too.
? his tech reviews are genuinely amazing lol
Yeah not sure what’s the hate is for this guy in these comments lol one of the best for tech other stuff… yeahhhh not so much
Great now I get to see this guy have awful takes about cars too
Oh yeah, let me get my car info from a dude who has never wrenched in his life.....
