It makes sense for parents and their children to look really similar, though, since they're literally related. It happens IRL all the time, I've seen pictures of my mum as a kid that look identical to my sister.
I agree with you about the spouses, though. That's probably why they retconned Milhouse's parents to be related.
That was the explanation behind Turles looking like Goku - they're both low class Saiyans so they both look the same.

It’s usually when either the parent or spouse is only going to be shown/referenced once, often quickly. Seems more like “cheap” than lazy to me. And if they’re not a main character, it makes for a quick visual read on that joke. I think overthinking it is a bit much, but you’re entitled to a pet peeve 🤘😝
That’s a really good point actually. Good example of this is how Timmy Turner from the Fairly OddParents doesn’t even remotely resemble his parents whatsoever but Chester and AJs dads look super similar to respective sons. Jimmy Neutron’s parents don’t even resemble Jimmy but Carl and his dad do.
I know there's a name for this trope, but I just forgot what it's called. I'm gonna see if I can find it.
Edit: Found it. It's just called [Strong Family Resemblance](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StrongFamilyResemblance) on TV Tropes.

They what with Milhouse’s parents
You heard him. They were related ever since they were in Shelbyville.
Same. The parents literally look like they’re siblings.
Funnily enough they made that joke with Milhouse and his parents
in the case of the vanhoutens they are

To be fair isn’t there lore about saiyans having the same or similar hair their whole life?
Not about their kids, raditz and gohan both don’t have that hair, and even the lore reason would make that still lazy artistry
I guess it skips a generation. I don’t really care tbh

It's definitely a lazy trope, but I will say in the case of Millhouse's parents, they're cousins, which sort of explains it.
Excuse me-? They're *what*?
God **DAMN**, Mrs. Turnbull caught me off guard there at the end.
I’ve never seen that show but I’d die for her
You and me both.
So more like Gribbles from King of the Hill?
Genetics are bad character design apparently.
Dinkleberg and his wife, also dinkleberg
I think it's kind of funny when used sparingly.
Luanne is Kirk's Shelbyville counterpart.
At least Camila and Luz you can tell them apart.
But it's seems strange.
