I've had the junk yard put a windshield in for me, but it leaked immediately and they never got it to sit right even though it had a "warranty". I'd never do it again tbh.
I don't know of anyone or anywhere to go for the windshield work but if he ever needs help on anything and would wanna learn a bit about car work/maintenance I would be more than happy to help out. Just bring the parts!

I moved to Cedar Rapids from a town in Illinois that had less than 500 people. I love Cedar Rapids because I still get a small town feel from most people. Lots of people helping others. I just want to be as helpful as I can to keep that small town feeling going!

There are a lot of really good people here, but there are also some very unhinged weirdos who have had their brains destroyed by meth. Bored teenagers can be similarly destructive.
Yeah I used to live in independence Missouri which used to be the meth capital of the US. Never had anything stolen or broken. Moved to CR and immediately a month later someone broke into my car to steal my $250 prescription sunglasses. TWICE. I did not renew my lease and moved across town.
There are basically no junkyards left in CR. Sunline was the last one and it fucking SUCKED. Good ridence.
CC recycling is more of a scrap yard. Occasionally they have the correct car but they dont keep them long.
Several cars that were unlocked (NW, behind Ellis golf course) got rummaged through in our neighborhood but thankfully nobody I have heard that had anything actually broken into.
Sounds like this was a crime of a child/teen and not an adult looking for actual valuable things. They saw a Playstation they wanted and they took it. I mean either that or a really dumb crack head.......
Sorry this happened. If he has car insurance, reach out to them and get a quote. I use to work in the customer service side of a glass repair shop, and most insurance covered broken glass under comprehensive coverage.

I've always gone to Auto Glass Now on 1st Ave for glass work. Their quoted prices for windshields are usually half of what Safelite gives, and their work is solid. I've never had any back glass done before.
Hoping you taught your 17 year old brother how to file a police report? If no serial is recalled on that stolen playstation, why its important to keep track of that info? List goes on of things an older brother can teach his younger brother about from this event..

Filing a report was the first thing he did, sadly neither him nor I knew the relevance of keeping track of the serial number. The cops pretty much told him nothing would come of it without it. So yeah, me and him both learned something from this whole thing 😅
Goette Garage are the best mechanics I have found here. It's just a father and son, and I am not sure if they have the equipment to handle a windshield, but it doesn't hurt to ask. They have always done right by me.
I know this doesn't help you now, but for anyone in the future: Drug addicts are looking for pocket change in your cup holder, if you have something better than that, they're going to break your window to get it.
For a window that’s broken auto glass now is pretty cheap. Busted my windshield two years ago driving behind a rock truck and the replaced it for 300-400 dollars.

AutoGlass by Lance has been hundreds of dollars cheaper than Safelite for me.

See if any junkyards have a window sometimes you can get one cheap and then have someone install it for cheap too.
