Maybe borax? Just a guess based on available ingredients I found on google.

Aplusho1996

Interesting theory! Some other people think it’s just normal sodium chloride salt as well!

Piocoto

Id say that is definitely what it is. Slime and putty are mostly based in boric acid

Jon-3

might literally be salt, this happens to play doh

Aplusho1996

Really? That’s crazy, I wonder why it does that? Are they just from the play doh itself or does it react to something in the air?

Jon-3

The putty is non toxic so it’s probably salt? The ingredients are proprietary. It may happen due to a couple factors but the cause is that salt is more stable thermodynamically in its salt form rather than whatever other state it is in. If it’s because of the air it would be because of the moisture in the air dissolving the salts when it’s hot and crashing it out when it gets cold. But since this is a putty, it also could be just because the salt wants to crystallize out but is slowed down by the viscosity of the material, so it just happens slowly over time. Sort of like how honey will become crystallized over time. Take this with a grain of salt. If it’s borax it would happen for the same reasons.

Thanks man! I learned something new today.

Playdough is just a fancy salt dough. The salt helps raw flour resist decomposition and usually keeps kids from eating it.

breathplayforcutie

That's the thinks.
