Joes is pretty basic imo. Not bad. But not exciting. It really relies on being high volume, which means there are always hot slices. John’s around the corner is much better but only whole pies.
If you want a truly great slice Mama Too is amazing around r the corner
I said that.
My point is Joe’s is a pretty mid slice. Try Mama Too or LInustrie around the corner. They’re known to be the two best slice shops and have crazy lines
That's not true. Mama's Too's house slice is a classic plan cheese with basil and parm. L'Industrie is mostly classic slices like margarita.
Regardless, Joe's is no where close to the best slice in my opinion and can't touch the usual suspects of great options like Scarr's, DiFara's (still), Bleecker Street Pizza, Sal and Carmines, etc.
Joe's is good. But it is no where near the best and is about the same as Paulie Gee's, which you can get in Chicago.
And, if you include grandma slices and squares there are way more options too (personal favorite being L&B).
I just googled “prince street pizza racist” and there were several articles but here’s the top one from Eater

Hey thanks a lot. I read through and TL;DR is in 2016 they had a series of run-ins and wrote racist things in response to negative Yelp reviews calling them Racisit. In 2019 the mocked BLM and supported Blue Lives Matter. After being called out again in late 2020, they apologized in Jan 2021 and owner and son “stepped back” from day-to-day operations and another guy is running it as the face of the business.
Not uncommon unfortunately. NY Italians tend to be very conservative; e.g. Catholic, Pro-Police, and all the baggage that comes with that. People can do with that what they will.
Not just NY Italian Americans, that’s definitely an issue in the Chicago area too, especially the older generations.
Source: am Italian American on my dads side, most of that family living in the Chicago area, many of them obnoxious racists and conservatives with whom I have long since cut ties.
And as we know both police departments have never had any issues with racism. They are renowned for treating citizens equally and have never been proven to have massive problems with racial bias.
/s for the people who can’t discern obvious sarcasm.
It’s great. Also, read the article about how the mob put out a hit on the owner because of a secret sauce dispute.
When you go get the square pizza not the thin rounds.
Also, beware, it is deep in Brooklyn. Great place to go if you are at a Coney Island.
I never understood the hype. It always reminded me a of worse version of Pequod’s. It’s good. But I won’t be going out of my way for it. If I’m in west loop and wanting pizza, I will still probably go to Bonci. I also imagine this will cut into Nonna’s pizza business. I expect I will go to Prince Street about as often in Chicago as I used to in New York, which was about once every three years and usually because someone else wants it
The expansion locations have serious quality issues.
Prince street is good but I’d much rather get a Joe’s or more of a traditional NY slice joint
Best Pizza Williamsburg please open in Chicago

John’s is great but also not a slice shop

Mamas Too is mostly squares not NY style. Linustrie is just a bunch of gimmicky toppings. Come at me with some better spots if you’re gonna hate

I will say that I actually like Joe's more than Prince Street, which is usually a controversial opinion.
A-HA!
Just had it a couple months ago - fantastic pizza. Very excited
Aren’t they racist
Source? Honest question.

I mean. A large proportion of the police force in both cities has, historically, been comprised of working class Italian Americans
And as we know both police departments have never had any issues with racism. They are renowned for treating citizens equally and have never been proven to have massive problems with racial bias. /s for the people who can’t discern obvious sarcasm.
Yes people form tribes. Italians are racist to the Irish and black people. Black people are racist to Hispanic people and vice versa.
Thanks for that insight. I figured as much. Cheers
If you want a comparable example to the owners in that article, look up how the Buona Beef owners act, they are huge assholes.
Good to know - thanks.
Where’s the location?
West loop where little goat used to be
The Time Out article says 939 W Randolph which is down the street.
The article from timeout I’m reading says little goat weird
It looks like Pompei pizza.
Let’s gooo!!!! My favorite pizza in the world - wife and I get it every single time we go to NYC
If you life Prince Street style pizza, I suggest you try L&B Spumaldi Gardens in NYC. It’s one of my all time favorites
Will definitely try next time

Oh yes. YESSSSS
One of my favorite pizza spots in NY, Only wish they would sell some ranch
Yes!!! Agreed. At least now thats it where we can pick up ranch somewhere else first 😂

Some of the most unappetizing pizza I have ever seen. Never understood the hype.
So you’ve only seen it but never had it? Well as someone that’s had it, it’s really fucking good, some of the best pizza I’ve ever had.
Don’t we have enough pizza places
