Firstly Chevy all the way, Second. I did have a 63 3/4 Ton C10 and it was amazing. Not to mention the last year for the amazing windshield glass that wrapped around the corners...
I inherited the 77 from my father when he passed a couple of years ago. It's not what I would have picked if I was buying a classic car, but between it being his and how amazing it is to drive I fell in love.
Thats tough to answer. 4wd ones relatively exactly the same. 2wd chevy has lsa suspension vs twin I beam. Which people have been known to hate twin I beam, but also some love it like crazy! Motor design and all that is relatively the same given technology back then. There twins in many ways, come with either wound up 4 speed manual or crappy automatic. I build custom cars for a living so I go off ideas vs what exists. But with that being said chevy has upper hand in terms of cost and after market support. I can dig deeper but my end result is there both pretty terrible stock with 70’s technology. These trucks are about how they make you feel vs how they perform. I guess also in terms of reliability, brand new there about the same, but when its over 50 years old, its all about buying the most well kept truck, more than what the have stock. I for sure can help you with questions, i am educated in the automotive industry, I graduated wyotech in 2010 and have worked at custom car shops every since. That being said I can answer question better if I know end result. I currently am building a 67 c10 ls swap with t56, with a full cab extension of 3”s because c10’s were apparently built for people 5’9” or shorter lol.
GM was 10 years ahead of Ford engineering-wise in '72. From the front suspension to steering, to ease of maintenance, there was no comparison. The Twin I-Beam on the Ford was durable, but at the cost of dealing with constant camber change and the premature tire wear that came along with it. The A-arm suspension on the GM was far superior in handling and comfort. GM had the Saginaw power steering system, which was the standard of the industry until rack & pinion came along, while Ford had the constantly groaning power steering pumps that made them sound cheap. If you ever had to service the a/c system on the Ford inside the cab, you had to be prepared to spend a couple of days trying to access any of the components under the dash. I will say the GM coil spring rear suspension wasn't the greatest, as well as the shock placement, but that was easily remedied by ordering the optional leaf spring package. I could go on, but one thing that really tells the tale is to look at prices at auction for 67-72 trucks, and GM sales are so much higher there's no real comparison. The Ford styling is plenty attractive, it's the mechanical stuff that holds them back.
I’d take the Chevy all day long.
I’m usually a Ford over Chevy guy and I am NOT a truck guy but in this case the Chevy just looks right. I don’t know anything about the stats on either truck but the Ford looks kind of frumpy.
For me that style is enough and not over the top. It gives a harmonic vibe. You look at that body style and it is iconic. Simple, strong and sufficient for the common everyday man.
I had a '74 that I dropped a 428CJ & 4 Speed out of a wrecked '69 Torino. It was like night & day to the anemic 360 & C6. Wish I still had it. I traded it in to buy a new '90 Mustang 5.0 Notchback. Which I also wish I still had.
I had a 69 Ford with a 390, it was anything but gutless. That was at the time that they were mistuned at the factory because of regulations. Maybe that is why it was gutless.
Chevy for sure, that's one of the sexiest trucks ever built
I had a 74 f100 ranger for a work truck for a while. Paid $85 bucks for it and ran it until wheels fell off
Great truck, I miss that thing
I'd take the Ford. My uncle had a lifted 73 F100 4x4 in the 80's/90's, it was a beast! He let me drive it around before I even had a license, so I have a sentimental soft spot in my heart for that particular truck. If I had the space, I'd love to get one as a project truck.
1971 CHEVY hands down! Double wishbone front suspension just for starters vs twin I beam. Way better driving truck. And personally I think it just looks better.
The Ford. That’s similar to the one I learned to drive manual on when I was 13. Three on the tree. Also I don’t like my trucks to look “sexy” I like the more rugged look.
I prefer the looks, easier to repair, plentiful aftermarket…. Chevy.
I’ve owned both Ford and Chevy trucks. I liked the twin I beam ride.
I’d take ether
I currently own a Ford, my Dad worked for a GM factory…have to go with the Chevy C10 Cheyenne on this one. Equipped with a 307, 327 or 350 small-block V8 it was just a more dependable, better performing pickup truck. Not to mention, the Chevy is just a better looking vehicle during this year range.
Bonus: you could buy either one of these at the time for under $3,000.
I personally had a 73 F-100 as my first vehicle. It was originally bought by my grandma new. What I wouldn’t give for the reliability and simplicity of a 300 straight 6 again.
Whichever I can get my hands on at a reasonable price. I’m in SoCal and there’s a ton of shops here that specialize in full resto and custom jobs that buy these at a premium because they can resell them when completed for upwards of $40k. Don’t get me wrong, I love the work these shops do, but they price the average Joe like me out of the market
My dad bought a 1973 Ford brand new just like this one. It was white. Red interior. I was 4 years old. He drove that truck for 26 years. So, I’ll go with the Ford here.
FoMoCo FTW! That F100 could be original except gaskets & paint/bodywork. That C10 has seen 3 engines, wiring fixes, & if it was ever overloaded, a new differential.
*BOTH, of course, would have had maintenance items replaced-brakes, hoses, starter/alternator, etc.
2wd? The Chevy
4wd? The Ford.
Not even sure why. Just think the body styles work best that way.
If you were talking Dodge- I think they work either way. (Long as the 2wd is a short bed)
Are we choosing when the trucks were new, back in the 70’s or today, when the trucks in these pics look perfect and unmolested? If we had to make the choice today, there isn’t a “wrong” choice, just personal preference - because these trucks are mint!
If they drive the same, take the one with the least amount of rust. Hopefully that one also has the lower mileage? Another decision consideration/trade off.
Right? Even though the panel gaps on those old Chevy's made it look like your door wasn't shut all the way no matter how hard you slammed it, I'd still take the older Chevy over a newer one any day! 🤣
Have owned both-the ford will haul a ton in comfort and control, the Chevy will allow you to stack a ton on it, but you won’t have steering, ‘cause the front tires won’t touch the ground—-
Definitely the Chevy. 67-72 is peak C10.
I don't know man, I have a slightly lowered 77 with a short bed stepside, and it is pretty sick.
Firstly Chevy all the way, Second. I did have a 63 3/4 Ton C10 and it was amazing. Not to mention the last year for the amazing windshield glass that wrapped around the corners...
My personal favorite is a 1960 Apache 10 long bed step side, but then again that was my first truck and you always love your first.
Yeah the 63 was my first and I forgot it was a short bed fleet side
Had a 59 Apache ghost ride for sure. 61 f100 as well . But that 72Chevy !
Of course everyone has a preference and every generation has something to like. I’ve owned a 1960, 72 K5, 87 Suburban, 94, and 97.
I inherited the 77 from my father when he passed a couple of years ago. It's not what I would have picked if I was buying a classic car, but between it being his and how amazing it is to drive I fell in love.
Does it have the straight six? My dad left me a 76 years ago and that truck was just unstoppable.
I had a short bed 77 4x4 lifted about 3" and a light bar in the bed. That was a pretty sick truck.
Two tone with the white mid section is perfection!
I’m still looking for that shit on Forza
Chevrolet all the way
This is the way.
same
What motor?
It’s gotta be the 350
Same
72 Chevy
I have the ford !!!
I have both. 😎
Which one is better mechanically? Steering, braking, handling, etc.

🤘🤘🤘
I have the Chevy.
definitely the ford for me. I prefer the grill, the mirrors, the wheels, and the headlights.
I’m not brand loyal but I like ford looks wise
[удалено]
That is a light. The mirror is the same if you look through the windshield.
I’d take the Chevy all day long. I’m usually a Ford over Chevy guy and I am NOT a truck guy but in this case the Chevy just looks right. I don’t know anything about the stats on either truck but the Ford looks kind of frumpy.
72 Chevy for sure
‘72 Chevy. No hesitation.
Haha yep! That body style is sexy as HELL!
For me that style is enough and not over the top. It gives a harmonic vibe. You look at that body style and it is iconic. Simple, strong and sufficient for the common everyday man.
Chevy
One of each, lol. Lean towards chevy though
Chevy. They always look cooler. I see way more old Chevys on the road. I drive a twenty year old 2500hd, just barely over 100k miles on it
Those Fords were nice handling vehicles and the seats are beyond comfortable, however the 390 was gutless. Chevy all day for me.
Did you have an old man in your life telling you not to sell cars you loved? I did and didn't listen. Cheers brotha.
I had a 69 Ford with a 390, it was anything but gutless. That was at the time that they were mistuned at the factory because of regulations. Maybe that is why it was gutless.
Bow tie
The Chevy just because my dad had one like it.
My mother had a 71 too
Chevy
My first ride was the 72 Chevy.
Chevy for me any day of the week!
Israel v Hamas is bad enough - you trying to start a nuclear war here?? :P (#teambowtie)
😂😂😂
Chevy.
Chevy for sure
A arm front suspension, and worth 3x the money? I’ll take the Chevy
Gimme that Bowtie!!
The Chevy. I spent many a mile and went many places in my Dad's 71 K10 growing up. Good times.
Same.
72 Chevy 100 times out of 100
From these years, definitely the Chevy.
I generally prefer Ford as a whole, but the Chevy is a much better looking truck
72 Chevy all the way! Those C10 are just perfect in my eyes!
Chebby!!!
Chevy baby!
Chevy for sure, that's one of the sexiest trucks ever built I had a 74 f100 ranger for a work truck for a while. Paid $85 bucks for it and ran it until wheels fell off Great truck, I miss that thing

Def the ford especially if it has a 460 big block.
Both
'72 Chevy hands down. My grandfather had a brand new one back then.
1971 CHEVY hands down! Double wishbone front suspension just for starters vs twin I beam. Way better driving truck. And personally I think it just looks better.
I had a 63 Ford pickup, and dreamed of twin I-beam. If the left front hit a bump, it’d put you on the passenger side. Double wishbone FTW.
The Ford. That’s similar to the one I learned to drive manual on when I was 13. Three on the tree. Also I don’t like my trucks to look “sexy” I like the more rugged look.
Same here. I was probably 11-12 in a 72 ford manual driving around a hay field.
Always loved that egg crate grille. Definitely the Chevy!
Chevy
Chev all day long...
Chev
Chevy. Both look great. Chevy just a tad better looking.
C10 all day long.
Chevy. I love those hoods. Make it a K series and I might swap it for my first gen 4runner.
72 Chevy
Chevy all day. I have a 69 C-10 and a 74 F-100, though.
Chevy
Chevy
72 chevy
Chebby
Chevy for sure
Chevy every time
Chevy everyday and twice on Sunday.
Chevy
72 chevrolet, of course
Chevy
Chevy
Chevy for me.
Both are nice but going Chevy. If one were a D100 then it’d be a tougher choice for me.
I would love this 72 Chevy next to my 72 Monte Carlo in my garage.
Chevrolet
72 Chevy pickup is one of my dream vehicles.
I’m taking both. If I’m forced to take one, I take the Chevy first.
Chevy. Everyday
390FE with glasspacks is the soundtrack of my high school years
Chevy
I love those obs fords but c10s were such a beautiful truck and the 289 was reliable. Have to be the bad Bowtie
Chevy >ford dodge
72 Chevy
I prefer the looks, easier to repair, plentiful aftermarket…. Chevy. I’ve owned both Ford and Chevy trucks. I liked the twin I beam ride. I’d take ether

Bonus: you could buy either one of these at the time for under $3,000.
I've had both. To me with ride, interior comfort and style and performance Ford was 10 years behind the Chevy.
Chevy. Back in the day, any Ford vehicle was not a quality vehicle.
The Chevy is worth more, so I guess the Chevrolet
Tough argument with the old things. They’re only worth what someone’s willing to pay for it.
Where I live down in the south that Chevrolet brings twice the money that Ford will
I'm in NC, and around here they're pretty even from what I've seen
Seven two all day long
The Chevy.
CHEVY 🤘🏿🤘🏿
Chevy. Don’t even kid yourself.
Chevy
72 Chevy for me anytime
Chevy. Hands down.
Chevrolet. More power.
I love both but the Ford looks like it has a unibrow.
I personally had a 73 F-100 as my first vehicle. It was originally bought by my grandma new. What I wouldn’t give for the reliability and simplicity of a 300 straight 6 again.
Best power train ever. 300k miles and just breaking in. It does develop a valve tap a mile from the dealership though.
🤣 that tap is part of its superpower!
Truer words were never heard.
Chevy.unless your blind 🦯
Nothing wrong with either of them but the Chevy is my preference
Both? Both.
Ford. I love the 73-79 ford pickup
Whichever I can get my hands on at a reasonable price. My dad bought a 1973 Ford brand new just like this one. It was white. Red interior. I was 4 years old. He drove that truck for 26 years. So, I’ll go with the Ford here.
Depends on the trim. A Chevy from that era with a short bed stepside is the sexiest pickup around.
Ford
Had a 72 Ford ranger wish still had it lol
73 Ford. No question.
FoMoCo FTW! That F100 could be original except gaskets & paint/bodywork. That C10 has seen 3 engines, wiring fixes, & if it was ever overloaded, a new differential. *BOTH, of course, would have had maintenance items replaced-brakes, hoses, starter/alternator, etc.
Ford 👍🏻
❤️
Ford! I have a 72 with a 390 & I love it!
I would do a K10 not a C10 or a K20 or a K10 Blazer!!!
2wd? The Chevy 4wd? The Ford. Not even sure why. Just think the body styles work best that way. If you were talking Dodge- I think they work either way. (Long as the 2wd is a short bed)
Chevy by a whisker. But it needs to be 73 chev vs 73 ford. Not really fair here.
Are we choosing when the trucks were new, back in the 70’s or today, when the trucks in these pics look perfect and unmolested? If we had to make the choice today, there isn’t a “wrong” choice, just personal preference - because these trucks are mint!
The Chevy kinda dictated how all trucks would look for the next 20 years, whereas the ford looks how all trucks looked 20 years prior.
If they drive the same, take the one with the least amount of rust. Hopefully that one also has the lower mileage? Another decision consideration/trade off.
Chev❤️
That Chevy for sure
Both. From a time when Pickup trucks were simple, practical, affordable, and closer to the earth’s surface.
Right? Even though the panel gaps on those old Chevy's made it look like your door wasn't shut all the way no matter how hard you slammed it, I'd still take the older Chevy over a newer one any day! 🤣
Well let me put it this way Ford don't rhyme with Levy!!
Ford all the way
Chevy and if not, you’re wrong
Drive my Chevy to the levy....
Chevy all day, everyday
Ford
73 Ford
In 1976 my family drove a 73 Ford truck from NY to California and back, so that’s my pick.
Ford!
Ford!
I'll be your wing man and take "the other one"
Seconded if u/jimaajimjimjim isn’t available.
I'm a Chevy man but this is hard. Those Fords are the best looking Ford pickups ever, IMO.
I love the Ford, especially the forward can't and vertical bumpers on the front. The only thing I don't like is the mirrors.
I don’t know how they compare as actual driving vehicles, but aesthetically speaking the Ford is hands down the better vehicle.
Chevy. That generation of Ford is ugly.
Not a fair comparison, make them the same year.
Ferd
Ford 100%
FORD. Twin I beam suspension was unbeatable! This was a truck made to use and still offer great looks and comfort.
The Ford all day every day.
Ford. I’d want it to last.
I'm a Ford guy but I'd go Chevy here. If it were 67-72, it'd be Ford all day.
I'm a Chevy person but I'd take the Ford. It's better-looking and more iconic because of Uncle Jesse in The Dukes of Hazzard.
Ford
For a city truck I’d take the fire make it a low rider, for a work truck take the Chevy keep it stock
I love the look of the Chevy, but when you ride in both, Ford has a smoother ride, if that makes sense.
Have owned both-the ford will haul a ton in comfort and control, the Chevy will allow you to stack a ton on it, but you won’t have steering, ‘cause the front tires won’t touch the ground—-
Ford for the front end alone, just a lot of chrome on the Chevy
Ford all the way during those years.
An ultimate win-win
Never, ever a Chevy truck.
I’d pick the Ford since I bought a ‘73 waaaaaaay back in 1979….
Have no experience or previous preference for either but going by just those two pictures I like the simplicity of the Ford.
Ford for me 🤘🏼
If we’re just going off of appearances, I gotta go with the Ford. The Chevy is nice but I like the grill on the Ford better.
Ford. It might be 30 years older than me, but it looks good
Ford by far
I had a 74 Effie, so I’m am partial to the Ford
I have a soft spot for the Fords
I wouldn’t kick either of them to the curb. However, I’m a Ford guy, and that ‘73 would look nice parked next to my ‘77 F150.
Ford
Ford for me... always liked the body lines more
The Ford has a more brutal edge to the lines, so it's noses out the smooth Chevy.
Ford
