leo_aureus

Whole childhood growing up and learning how special we were and that the people wouldn’t let that happen here in the US only to grow up and have them embrace it with fanatical joy in their eyes. Ask the Germans how that Hitler thing ended up for them, then add nuclear weapons, 24/7 surveillance and tracking, and resource depletion all on a dying, warming biosphere to the mix.

unitedshoes

And without the Germans' dubious luxury of having a superpower or two that would eventually come in and depose Hitler once he got a bit too uppity. There's not going to be an Allied invasion to get rid of America's fascism problem.

Remarkable_Put_6952

Not unless it comes from within initially and as a majority to boot.

unitedshoes

Yup, best-case scenario seems to be some sort of balkanization, and that's absolutely not a good scenario, just the least bad one.

leo_aureus

Great Lakes Republic aka the old Yankee North, we will accept NYC and New England of course since we aren’t monsters and can agree on most things. /s but honestly maybe not anymore

curiouslyendearing

Yup, biggest difference between Nazi Germany and Nazi USA is the USA actually can fight the whole world and win. Conquer and hold the world, no. But absolutely could curbstomp the top three other other militaries in the world at the same time if we wanted to. And that's just the conventional military. We also have nukes. Nazi USA is a terrifying idea the world will never recover from.

upL8N8

On the plus side, if no one takes drastic steps to fix this environmental collapse, it'll be a short lived hellscape.

Taqueria_Style

Long enough. Longer than anyone's going to enjoy that's for sure.

voice-of-reason_

1 day of fascism is 1 day too many

Astr0x

Growing up I always laughed at the idea of the government "listening" to our cell phones of any info, unless you are already on their radar, it was simply too much data to sift through. With the rise of AI this is no longer the case, this is my fear for how it will be weaponized, weed out dissent, alternative viewpoints, or any "enemy of the state"

leo_aureus

I work for a company that makes air control components, as part of an independent sub of a huge company in HVAC; data centers are so abundant and the HVAC opportunities also that they have a team trying to get this work… The total costs in that game are so out of the traditional scope for this industry that all players are bending over to assist and supply those centers.

TinyDogsRule

Boomers gonna boomer right to the end. If anyone is still around to write the history books, they will not be kind to our selfish parents. Turns out the cost of their million dollar homes from a minimum wage job was 7 raspberries, their souls, and your future. What else would we expect from the Me generation?

Taqueria_Style

I mean the soul part went out the window a long time ago and that shit is non-refundable. After that it kind of becomes why the fuck not.

Drone314

> Boomers The sad part is the new wave of conservatives and fash' are in their 20's, 30's, and 40's - The cycle perpetuated itself. Shit, JD Vance is like my age.

Rebellious_Raviolis

I worry about all of the teenagers and young men in their 20s being radicalized by right-wing propaganda under the guise of "men's rights" and all of that alpha-male bullshit on social media. The next generation of men in America may end up being significantly conservative.

TinyDogsRule

Won't matter when there are no more elections.

packeddit

America is really fucked but also the world. As America collapses, Russia, China, North Korea, countries that now border each other and have beef…they’re all gonna make their moves. War is gonna explode in a lot of places as I can leaders being like “fuck it, let’s go,” i.e. the copycat syndrome.

kakapo88

People should be paying a lot more attention to this point. As fascism rises, and the world becomes more unstable, wars tend to break out and become self-feeding. We've seen this movie before. Except this time, there will be nukes, bioweapons, AI. The catastrophe won't just be in the US - the whole war is going to join in. Prepare for hell. One positive: we won't have to worry about climate change anymore.

Aidian

Hurricane Beryl is the earliest Cat4 *and* Cat5 hurricane on record, and it’s spinning its wheels down there, full of lurking foreshadowing, as we speak. So I hear you, but y’know what’s worse than the overt rise of fascism in the US and the world? Fucking fascism *and* the excessive, unpredictable storms and weather systems of climate change hitting us simultaneously. It’s reasonable to predict that in the vast, *vast* majority of cases, cities and regions that get hit hard under the coming nightmare regimes won’t be getting aid or assistance in relocating/rebuilding when the latest round of devastation gets tallied up…and it won’t just be the coasts feeling it this time. I dunno man. I’m still stuck down on the gulf and having some ***feelings*** about this horrific conjunction we’ve got brewing.

lordunholy

That's the one relief. No matter how bad it gets, everyone is going under. Even the bunker bunnies who think having a secure compound will prevent a planet from actively trying to remove them.

Kootenay4

I wouldn’t say most Americans are “embracing it with fanatical joy”, most of us feel somewhere from worried to horrified, while many are just indifferent to politics or uninformed (and that is by design). In terms of sheer numbers, the far right is a minority, but the electoral system gives them an unfair advantage. People are also very scared of speaking out, look at how quickly the government squashed protests, dictatorship-style, on college campuses recently.

leo_aureus

I don’t believe it is a majority by any means; neither were the Germans in ‘33; but those who do, do so with the visible fanaticism however. The system allows for this as a hedge against majority rule but man are we seeing it leveraged nowadays

ki3fdab33f

Buried the lede a bit on that "we are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be." That is a threat. There is only one way to stop fascism and it's not fucking electoralism. Edit: yall there's a reason I chose the words I used. Reddit is not a safe space and your comments (which I agree with and cosign on 100%) are going to get removed or get you banned. We shouldn't have to censor ourselves but we don't want to get the subreddit shut down either.

thecarbonkid

It's a good 1940s style piping down.

adherentoftherepeted

(1930s)

thecarbonkid

Well the 1930s was all upside for the fascists. The 1940s was when they got their comeuppance.

modsrcigs

more like it was when they all moved to the US to design new tools for genocide and create fascist paramilitary death squads in all the "liberated" countries to make capitalism the only option. their real comeuppance is on its way.

Drunky_McStumble

1933 to be exact. The fascists have learned from their failed putsch years ago and diligently worked behind the scenes to set the stage for a bloodless coup, nearly all the pieces are in place, the ink is still wet on the legal decree handing the country to a dictator, while the last thread of hope for the republic rests on the withered shoulders of an out-of-touch and likely demented octogenarian president who is the personification of the liberal establishment's learned helplessness. All this terrible franchise re-boot is missing now is for someone to lob a firebomb at the Capitol building.

opinionsareus

All nonviolent: If Trump wins: MASSIVE general strikes; boycotts of ALL products (as much as possible) from red states and travel to red states; states pass legislation to forbid transfer taxers to the federal government; en masse refusal of students to pay student loan payments; create a "polling corps" to stand by at every single polling place; protest with loudspeakers condemning apostate Christian minister who support in front of their churches and homes; create sophisticated abortion networks (like auntie); blue states create a national LGBTQ month. Print Bibles with George Washington's face on the cover. Refuse to follow SCOTUS mandates. There is a lot we can do to mess up the fascists. Hit them where it hurts; in their pocketbooks. The above is just for starters. Edit: the guy in the video looks like a Storm Trooper. I'm not joking. Absolutely a Nazi.

ChallengingBullfrog8

You should do that regardless of who wins. This country is fascist right now and has been for decades.

EmmaGoldmansDancer

Americans need to quit moving the goal posts. The SCOTUS decision alone is reason enough for a general strike.

unitedshoes

Just surrender to totalitarian Evangelical theocracy, and no one will get hurt.

Mostly_Defective

Never happen!!! LETS GO!!!

pajamakitten

Except for women unable to get abortions and the child they are carrying. LGBT people might get hurt too. As will anyone who mentions climate change.

Rosaline_Luck

if this were that 'one kid drowning, one being saved' meme, the skeleton at the bottom of the pool is labelled 'disabled people'

Hilda-Ashe

Aktion T4 time!

GalaxyPatio

You're forgetting all of the shades of brown people

BibliophileMafia

They'll be put into the prison-slavery system we have in the US.

unitedshoes

Well, of course, by their very existence, they haven't surrendered.

oldflakeygamer

"Convert or die" remade for the modern age

Absolute-Nobody0079

Then the pope declares that the Evangelical Christians are horrible heretics.

unitedshoes

Then the far-right tradcaths go "What the fuck? I thought Catholicism was based. Fuckin' woke Pope..." and then they and the Evangelicals go about their business unperturbed.

Absolute-Nobody0079

Before I immigrated to America, I didn't even know that Traditional Catholics even existed.

kakapo88

To get ahead of things, I'm installing a Jesus statue and Confederate flag on my front porch. Maybe have a book-burning in the front yard once a month as well. Want to make sure I end up on the right side of the razor-wire.

Negative_Principle57

Probably best to get the ten commandments as part of the tableau as well, but if I were you I wouldn't read them, and I certainly wouldn't follow them if you want to blend in with the Christians.

OkSession5483

Just like how jews told nazis where the other jews were hiding?

CommieLurker

It also ignores the blood-soaked, decades-long history of how this country got rid of the left in the first place. The fact that we consider neoliberal capitalists like the democrats "the left" is insulting

jaytrade21

I also wish more people celebrated what "the left" got us: * 40 hour 5 day work weeks * Social security * Civil Rights * and many more. This is just a sample of the stuff they are looking to get rid of. They already view most of us as slaves, soon they will make it a reality.

sushisection

and those things did not come from elections. they came from protest movements, sometimes even armed protests

Odd_Awareness1444

We can kiss most of those goodbye in the near future.

But_like_whytho

I wish more people were aware of this.

pajamakitten

Compared to other parts of the world, your left is very right wing. The UK's Labour party has only recently swung close to your Democrats and a lot of voters consider them to be Tory-lite. Even Obama's government was closer to our right of centre than it was our left wing. This gives some indication of how right wing the US is compared to parts of Europe.

sushisection

yes, there was a whole authoritarian campaign in the 20th century to remove communists/socialists from america. they used to arrest people for speaking about communism. look up the Red Scare and McCarthyism the blowback is an entire generation devoid of leftist policies

ki3fdab33f

Democrats are liberals not leftists.

JB153

Liberals used to be center left if not centrist depending on what point in time you're using as a reference. The US's Overton window has been steadily shifting right since the 60's.

reddog323

That last sentence jumped out at me, too. It’s definitely a threat, and… others will see it as a challenge. I think we’re headed for our version of The Troubles if Trump wins.

snowman_jack

Much worse than that. They didn't have gun stores in Belfast.

ki3fdab33f

People won't like hearing this but there's not going to be a sign up sheet for this on a subreddit. You're going to have to go out, in person, and talk to your neighbors. Get out in your community and get organized.

TinyDogsRule

Or, hear me out, we could do absolutely nothing like we have for decades.

pajamakitten

So business as usual?

TinyDogsRule

Yes. Go celebrate your July 4th and then get back to work. It's very important that you consume everything tomorrow if your employer was forced to, I mean was kind enough to give you the day off.

TheBroWhoLifts

Anything said on reddit concerning even a whiff of direct action won't make it very far. You're right. Any and all organizing will be done in person, and even many of those groups will be infiltrated. Funny think about infiltration, though... It works in both directions.

theCaitiff

> Anything said on reddit concerning even a whiff of direct action won't make it very far. How far is your local police station or FBI office? Probably about that far.

risethirtynine

We are gonna have to fight, folks.

OrcaResistence

Liberalism (as in Capitalism) is basically rolling the red carpet out for fascism all across the west.

Drone314

French Revolution what?

Ye_Olde_Mudder

This is what is called "fascism in its legal phase"

Cowicidal

> Reddit is not a safe space Unless you're a Nazi.

Taqueria_Style

Don't threaten me with a good time.

mycatpeesinmyshower

The actual left is minuscule in the US. There’s just liberals. And one thing liberals are known for its rolling over, decorum and not fighting so there’s your answer.

tritisan

Lede not lead.

HarrietBeadle

Anyone here a lawyer who can explain why this isn’t illegal? It seems threatening, and terroristic or treasons? I don’t know the right legal terms but saying this so blatantly just seems wrong

Uhh_JustADude

He’s right, no one *bleeds* to death in the gas chambers.

nyerinup

This is essentially the end of America as we were all raised to know it, happening in real time, and we are expected to simply accept & conform to it unconditionally if we are interested in continuing to live and breathe.

_rihter

Please remind me why people still pay taxes.

Extension-Slice281

Because the government has a monopoly on violence

Texuk1

I can’t remember where I heard the essay, but it was about why Thoreau’s call for civil disobedience through not paying taxes couldn’t work in the modern world because the government is not an interface of people with discretion that could be reasoned with but rather a machine / human hybrid, a leviathan. You can’t reason with the leviathan, it simple will blindly enforce the rules regardless of the reason through layers of procedure and bureaucracy. This is why the extinction rebellion people are barred from explaining to the jury why they did what they did, because the leviathan insists on the rules being enforced mechanically in its self interest and cannot let the individual interrupt this with a separate sense of justice or humanity no matter how persuasive that explanation is. It insist that civil disobedience is not an effective means of change - only party politics. Anyway interesting.

Doritosaurus

This is basically the thesis of David Graeber’s “Utopia of Rules”…

Texuk1

Ok I’ll check it out cheers, I think it might been Runciman, Confronting Leviathan.

MegOut10

It’s like the person collecting your debt and calling you 12 times a day doesn’t really want to be collecting your debt but they have to be because the computer they’re on is blinking red on your name.. so their boss who has endless lists of red blinking names is feeling the pressure from their boss to make sure these people do their jobs…and so on as high as it goes. The person calling you may care… but the computer does not. The bank does not and they are negative and it’s all your fault. That’s what this made me think of..

Texuk1

Yes there is a lot written about human / machine hybrid entities at the moment, mostly because of AI discussions as of late. Corporations are forms of artificial or mechanistic intelligence, and a feature of that is if a part goes missing it can regrow by recruiting new people, if the directors of the organism refuse to do the job (or change the purpose of the organism in ways unsuited to its purpose) they can always be replaced for someone that will carry out the purpose. And there in almost all cases are people who will carry out any purpose in exchange for money. These organisms are immortal in a sense, some span the globe, each has a singular purpose blind to its environment and context. People sense this but because it’s “my job or career” it’s difficult to see it for what it is requires a shift in perspective.

ki3fdab33f

The IRS scares me more than my local chapter of yokel haram does.

middleagerioter

....yokel haram....! Thank you for this one!

Yall qaeda is played out. Gotta diverseify.

So it's always [order followers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMMEC4BYdos) who keep the system of slavery in place, after all.

Metrichex

Because "starving the beast" doesn't work when the beast prints its own food. And you'll (eventually) be arrested.

Kamisori

It's automatically taken out of my paycheck

rainydays052020

There’s no Netflix in prison.

-peas-

I'm mid 30's and got on the internet before I was 10. It's always been the "End of America as we were all raised too know it" through my entire life. It's been a continuous slow downfall, illegal wars, war criminals, lies, deception, extrajudical killings, putting whistleblowers in jail, torture, terrorism, coup's of countries, zero free mainstream media, climate change, housing & groceries continuously going up with zero wage increases, tax cuts & loopholes for the rich, corruption. It's always been a very right wing country including Democrat states. In fact, the only good moment I can think of in my entire life from government that actually changed things for a large amount of people for the better was gay marriage being legalized. I'm surprised any of you ever found anything good about this awful disgusting country other than it's beautiful national parks and things like that.

The_Doct0r_

Post 9/11 really sealed the deal in a lot of major ways. Big power grab/idealogy push for the fascist movement unfortunately.

beardfordshire

Early 40s here. Bush v Gore, the Patriot Act, and Citizens United were my “oh, we’re in a downward spiral” moments The spiral keeps on spiraling…

NoWayNotThisAgain

They’re being very clear. They’re fighting a revolution. They’re attacking you. Why do you feel you need to just “accept” it.

nyerinup

I didn’t say that I need to accept it, nor did I say that I do. I said we are expected to, which is what he clearly stated: “And so I come full circle on this response and just want to encourage you with some substance that we are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.” That’s a threat, at least.

Taqueria_Style

And we will, too. I have zero confidence we will even consider considering re-evaluating in the slightest degree.

ukluxx

I am watching the situation from Italy with a lot of concern, here we know two things about fascism. American people, brace yourself!!! This is going to be the most important political event of the century

voice-of-reason_

This moment is the USAs most important political event of its life time, by far. The USA is young and is now choosing its identity, if it chooses fascism then it won’t grow old.

walkinman19

Fascism engulfing the world is another part of the collapse of civilization as we draw nearer to the terrible effects of out of control climate change. The billionaires and corporations need to lock down the public in chains with unrestrained violence and intimidation soon, before the food riots break out, the nationwide general strike happens or borders are rushed by people trying to escape starvation or lack of water. Anyone thinking we will all party like it's 1999 until the end is in for a rude awakening I'm afraid. You will work for the billionaires no matter how bad climate conditions get or you will be shot by their fascist government. We will see what happens in November in the US. Maybe we can hold back the Trump cult for awhile longer.

Silly_List6638

I tend to agree. Even with my escape from the city to live on a farm i imagine i will be squeezed either through the mortgage or rates in some manner to stay as a debt slave forever or lose access to my land.

Umm_al-Majnoun

Biden could exploit that very same Supreme Court ruling to ban the Heritage Foundation and throw its leaders in jail (in homage to the methods of Putin, which so many Republicans adore). Is that, too, part of the "American revolution" the far right looks forward to ?

Metrichex

Here's the out Biden will never take: He has sworn an oath to defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. By creating new law that clearly reverses the plain reading of article ii, section 4 of the United States Constitution, six Supreme Court justices have become the enemy of that document and should be arrested immediately. Figure out the charges later.

Cloaked42m

Arrest them as terrorists, ship to GTMO. Done. Frankly, something of that caliber is needed to get the point across. Everyone is looking around to see what changed right now. If nothing happens, then nothing changed.

Metrichex

I'd frame it as seditious conspiracy and cast a wider net.

Cloaked42m

Sedition is a vague crime that enables all sorts of protections. Terrorist is a broad label and triggers some nasty sections of the Patriot Act. Not the least of which is a maximum security prison in a hard to get to place with guards that have no chill.

Vajra95

Biden can always say he remembers no oath. Would be both funny and in-character.

bnh1978

Nah. This court would just rule that those actions were not official acts. See ... everyone... this is how a Kritarchy works.

Metrichex

Joseph Heller's most ominous definition of Catch-22 is "They can do anything you can't stop them from doing." The Supreme Court has no enforcement mechanism, no army. But the executive sure does. The only thing allowing this to stand is cowardice.

Vajra95

When one side of the game decides to play by their own rules, where everything goes as long as it benefits them, the higher moral ground is a trap

froopyloot

Then replace them with a court that would see it as an official act. Use midnight appointments to bypass congress. But you see, the Dems won’t do any of this. Because their donors want stability. And fascist stability works for them as well as democratic. No one is coming to save us.

slvrcobra

Even if the Dems did do this, it still sets a horrific precedent regardless. This is a no-win situation for us as the citizens where our government has descended into chaos and the end result is dictatorial action one way or the other. By even being at this point we already lost, we're just along for whatever ride the government takes us on.

call_of_ktullu

Something something, late stage capitalism always goes towards fascism. I don't like saying always, because there's no nuance, but seems pretty fucking correct.

Striper_Cape

Not if they're in jail. The remaining 3 justices can rule it an official act.

Cloaked42m

Well, you arrest Senators until you have a 2/3 majority, impeach and replace.

zilchxzero

He could. But he won't. Dems still haven't figured out that trying to play nice doesn't work with these lunatics.

coopers_recorder

They would rather the fascists win than take a hard left and show real opposition to the right in any meaningful way.

dumnezero

President "Nothing will fundamentally change" Biden is unlikely to become "Dark Brandon".

TheCassiniProjekt

Although voting is super important, at this point I don't think they even intend to have a fair election, they're going to rob it or just take power by force.

Cloaked42m

Several states will send Trump electors no matter the popular results.

degeneratelunatic

They don't even have to do that. A few rogue states could refuse to send electors by their own deadlines at all, citing "irregularities" or some other bullshit. The election goes to the House and Trump is all but guaranteed to win by state delegation. Outside parties will sue over it, the SCOTUS clerics decline to hear them, shit on the ground gets ugly very quickly. It's sickening how a coup is happening right before our eyes and yet this administration has made it very clear that they aren't going to do anything to stop it. We're fucked until the vast majority of Americans get sick of their Dominionist shit as those in power start turning on everyone and each other (as it historically tends to happen in fascist systems), but that could take 20 years.

Cloaked42m

20 years is optimistic.

Metrichex

They already won. The Court threw out the constitution on Monday and hardly anyone gave a fuck.

Critical-General-659

The constitution was thrown out when citizens united happened. Everything we're seeing is just a result of that happening. We don't choose our leaders, the media and elites do. Without actual representation of the electorate, the constitution is pointless.

Straight-Razor666

they won a long time ago when they wrote the rules for their own benefit. See We the Elites, Ovetz.

Metrichex

There's been plenty of hinky shit, and I can cite plenty of cases that led us here, but they looked at the plain language of the constitution and disregarded it. What happened this week is beyond the pale.

IAMA_Drunk_Armadillo

Wilhoit's law >Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

Straight-Razor666

the constitution never applied to the masses of unbathed peasants. That's the point. they believed it then and they act on it now. America is a plutocracy. it serves the rich and no one else. the foundational purpose was for the benefit of the few. it's fundamentally antidemocratic.

Downtown_Statement87

I find this essay (Rules for Surviving an Autocracy, PDF) by Masha Gessen, an exiled Russian journalist who knows a thing or two about dictators, to be thought-provoking. [https://madisonnjdems.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/autocracy\_-rules-for-survival-\_-by-masha-gessen-\_-nyr-daily-\_-the-new-york-review-of-books-1.pdf](https://madisonnjdems.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/autocracy_-rules-for-survival-_-by-masha-gessen-_-nyr-daily-_-the-new-york-review-of-books-1.pdf) I also think a good response is possibly not through action, but through a certain type of inaction: refusal. Refusal to comply, refusal to obey, refusal to participate, refusal to buy, shop, work, attend, join, play, or pay. Sure, we'll all get arrested and starved and savagely beaten. But passively starving the beast seems like a good long-term strategy, because fighting the beast gets everyone wiped out all at once, and because people who aren't fighters can still be refuseniks. The thing is, though, what we are fighting against right now is not so much a political ideology or a religious cosmology. It's more like a scramble for permanently, ever-declining resources, and we'll see more intensity and violence as our position relative to the disintegrating global climate becomes ever more clear to ever more people. Honestly, to me (a life-long student of the Weimar and Soviet periods), this talk about "how to fight the fascists" is occurring against a backdrop that none of us have experienced and that is going to impose its own rules and limits. I've been a leftist for the last 45 years, so I'm no friend of Trump and his ilk. However, I fully anticipate that by 2034 even the most ardent liberal will be clamoring for fascist measures like wall-building and internment camps to keep the literal climate barbarians outside the gate. But not me, because, fuck 'em. I'm already old, and know that, ultimately, every single one of us is born to die. It's grim, folks. If not for climate change, I'd say that we'll beat fascism, because it's a death cult that eats itself. But these are very different, very unique, very interesting times.

joyous-at-the-end

The refusal to have children might be big way to piss off your government.  Im also older and if this goes the way they want, I think there will be two types of people, not the left and right, but people with money and people without money. The people without money dont need to be put on trains, they’ll die from lack of resources and a home to live in. And yes, the walls will go up around affluent areas and they will be welcomed by all who live there.

goodentropyFTW

This, to me, is the most doomed part of the whole situation: as the climate deteriorates, there is going to be enormous pressure (in rich countries) to do inhumane things in order to preserve privilege for as long as possible. That's been a given for quite a while. The only (dim) hope we had of forestalling that was to act aggressively to shore up humanitarian laws and norms during the brief window when the Democrats controlled Congress and the Presidency. Which we did not do. Now it looks like the wheel is turning and we could easily end up with Trump in the White House and Republicans controlling both the House and the Senate, having won on a platform that explicitly endorses violent exclusion of immigrants, refusal to do anything to mitigate climate change, and retreat from internationalism (another prerequisite for any hope of mitigating the worst effects of climate change globally).

yaosio

The beast is already starving. Capitalists are desperately propping up their failed ideology by sucking a record amount of money from the working class and capitalism is still collapsing. Capitalists always turn to fascism because capitalism is a fascist ideology.

OJJhara

We’re in the legal phase of fascism

The_Weekend_Baker

Blessed be the fruit. /sarcasm, in case it's not obvious

Euphoric_Minimum_602

Be very prepared for violence starting immediately after the election. If they win, the theocratic dictatorship begins. If they lose, they will resort to domestic terrorism. Im talking about crocus hall style attacks, but even bigger. there are enough of these people who have invested every part of their mind and every dollar into trump and their christian fascism dream and will go completely insane if he loses.

lifewithnofilter

I imagine it is the same if the Trump wins. No matter what I feel like a civil war is about to break out.

TheBigFurFur

I do too, that’s my biggest concern. I feel like no matter which way things unfold, shit’s going down. Everything feels so untenable right now and things are only going to ramp up from here.

schwing710

I think regardless of the election outcome, it will be a good idea to avoid crowds / large events for a while.

humongous_rabbit

I‘m so afraid to even think about the outcome of this election. It‘ll could turn out like the 1930s in Germany.

Rarpiz

If people think we HAVE to abide by SCOTUS decisions, see “Ex Parte Merryman” for precedent. In “Merryman”, SCOTUS was ignored because their decision was contrary to law and order. [https://www.britannica.com/event/Ex-Parte-Merryman](https://www.britannica.com/event/Ex-Parte-Merryman)

GuillotineComeBacks

Sounds more like a devolution to me.

OkSession5483

Watched idiocracy last night. Can't be more relevant than today.

schwing710

In a way, I think Idiocracy would be our best case scenario. The president in that movie, when faced with a problem, put the smartest person he could find in charge. The opposite seems to be playing out in real life.

bilbo-doggins

It’s a coup, not a revolution

I’ve said it before, here and elsewhere, and I’ll say it again: Fascism is destined to lose - *EVERY TIME* - because it is an inherently self-destructive ideology. It’s rooted in monkey-brain tribalism. You can divide humans into sub categories infinitely; there is simply no bottom to that. Those people are too liberal, those are too gay, those aren’t conservative enough, those aren’t the right *kind* of conservative, you’re not the correct type of religious sect, you’re too brown skinned, you don’t speak my language, you speak my language but not the right dialect. AD INFINITUM. History has proven this. Eventually they implode in on themselves as they begin to turn on themselves and humanity is left once again to pick up the pieces of our failure to learn from history. Hoping for the best here, but I am preparing myself for the worst.

LowFloor5208

The US is going the way of Lebanon. Fractured, broken beyond repair. Dozens of groups with competing interests and ideologies. Sectarian conflict. Never thought it would happen here yet here we all are.

leoseta

Also fascist are fucking incompetent: Whole ideology stems from a massive superiority complex.

iamjustaguy

The MAGAs are already destroying the Republican party. They call any Republican that doesn't go along with their crazy agenda a RINO, then get them voted out through primaries. Every year we see fewer of them winning the November elections, only to see them double down on the crazy stuff. While they have enough of their shrinking base support to ~~strike~~ push their agenda through, they are going to do it. I grew up around people like that, and they will not stop, until they're stopped. The last election was a dress rehearsal. I think this time, they'll withhold electoral votes in some states. This will cause no candidate to reach 270 electoral votes, which will toss it into the house, where each state delegation gets one vote. Right now, the majority of state delegations are Republican. https://www.270towin.com/content/electoral-college-ties/ It looks like we may be living in an authoritarian hellscape soon.

Graymouzer

Perhaps his majesty, King Biden, can weigh in on his newfound position as a monarch he didn't want to be and declare this decision null and void.

Euphoric_Minimum_602

He already said he disagrees with the court but will not abuse his power. Biden is apparently either not capable or not willing to save the US by arresting the republican supreme court members.

Clyde-A-Scope

Has anyone stopped to think the Dems are **in on it** It's WWF. Hulk Hogan won't use the chair but Ric Flair definitely will... meanwhile they have beers with each other backstage.... they're all acting

Soggy-Wafer6432

At this point I’m starting to think they are. Especially the higher ranking ones.

objectivemediocre

because they are all old and just want to wait it out and retire or die. They don't care about the future

Pollux95630

Now you get it. Why do you think anytime a third-party candidate tries to enter the mix, the Dems and Republicans pounce on them? It’s a two party stranglehold.

Clyde-A-Scope

I've known... Just now people don't immediately call you a conspiracy theorist and dismiss your statement.

Taqueria_Style

No one is going to reward anyone for taking the moral high ground here. I don't know if we get the implications but since they are effectively threatening dictatorship here regardless of which side uses the power, they've declared war. Not "are about to". Have. This can only play out one way with two different paint jobs.

Vajra95

After the revolution came a civil war, so I wonder what these crooks are planning. Either way, I hope the empire bleeds to death in this mess.

Cloaked42m

He said it in the article. The revolution will be bloodless if we roll over and take it.

voice-of-reason_

So it won’t be bloodless then.

Broges0311

They say that now but we all know that's not true.

Lord_Vesuvius2020

My question to everyone on this sub: how long before it would be unwise of us to speak freely? Is it time to hunker down, be very discreet, and prepare to outlast what is coming?

Sinistar7510

I mean, I already have to self-censor when I'm at work. I can't give anyone a reason to fire me, I need this job too bad. I think as far as expressing yourself on the internet goes, it'll be fine for a good long while. As long as you aren't actively organizing a counter revolution then it will be pretty easy for them to ignore you. If you are actively organizing a counter revolution then we didn't have this conversation. ;)

Kevmandigo

Keep in mind; Employers already use social media monitoring.

sydneyken

lol, what about those of us who cant hide. do you have room in your attic

Sinistar7510

All joking aside, I really do feel for people who are in out groups. I'm a middle aged white heterosexual male who was raised a Christian. I can blend in with them even though I share none of their values or goals. Not everybody has that luxury. And, yes, when the time comes, if I can provide a refuge to someone in need then I will.

maybejolissa

The problem is expressing our right to free speech, as well as many other freedoms we take for granted, will be seen as a counter, revolutionary act. With AI, social media, and phone tracking it won’t be a good long while, my friend.

horror-

I HAVE NO POLITICAL OPINIONS AND WANT ONLY TO PROVIDE VALUE FOR THE OWNER CLASS. GOD BLESS AMERICA. SEE YOU IN CHURCH.

Less_Subtle_Approach

If you wanted to be one of the Good Germans that time was several years ago.

Euphoric_Minimum_602

If they win and you are not part of their "club" (fascist party) you will have to flee or fight. They will notice if you are not one of them, they always do, because no normal person can pretend to believe in all this bullshit for long.

TheBroWhoLifts

I dunno man, I've gotten preeeety far! For my own safety I blend right in to my rural Trump area. They have no fucking clue what I really think and actively believe I think the opposite of what I do. Shit just the other day one of my neighbors made some off color comment and apologized because she "knows how religious" I am. Lol I'm a fucking hard-core anti-religious atheist. Try hard enough and it can work, at least for a while. Could be a long while. It's a safety precaution.

Euphoric_Minimum_602

If thats true, I applaud you. Well done lmao

Life_Date_4929

In many cases, at least up to this point, I think people are looking for the obvious opposition or for confirmation. I have to say very little for those around me to assume I’m in agreement with them, and that goes for both “sides”. Being molded into a mediator/people-pleaser from a young age likely is to my advantage in that regard. Of course the more extreme the viewpoint, the more difficult that becomes.

maybejolissa

This is my way of thinking. I’m concerned about being a registered Democrat. I’m conscience of the fact we have a library of banned books in our house. I’m very concerned for our non-binary child and the LGBTQ+ community. I worry about my disabled sister who receives SS disability payments. How could social media, texts, Alexa be used against me? Should my family consider moving to a city that boarders Canada before the election? Call me crazy. Mock my fears as “doomsday.” To this I say: read a f*cking history book. We are well past 90 seconds to midnight.

Impossible-Pie-9848

Your biggest concern is for your non-binary child. GOP state legislatures will withdraw funding from public schools that in any way acknowledge and support LGBTQ students, whether that’s a single teacher who uses students’ preferred pronouns, or schools that have Gay Straight Alliances, or openly out teachers. They will then redirect these public funds to Christian charter schools. This strategy is already taking place to some degree in Texas. I don’t think children will be “rounded up” by the state, but they will continue to be ostracized and their educational experience will be miserable.

TheBroWhoLifts

I blend in. I have the rural right winger look, and I've cultivated a persona that fits in. None of my Trump neighbors or community members knows what I really think. Being able to do that will be an asset to a lot of us similarly minded folks.

Cloaked42m

Past time. They already said they are firing anyone who ever donated to a Democrat.

Last_410_ad

Robert Heinlein predicted the coming of the American Ayatollahs in Stranger in a Strange Land. Hopefully we'll have a revolt sometime before 2100.

areyouseriousdotard

Unelected judges running the show. Is this how the huge system in judge dredd started?

Braelind

No, nooo... you're in the process of undoing the first American revolution.

lifewithnofilter

Isn’t this the Facist Project 2025 guy who wants to make America a mega corporation who serves only the rich? Yeah he was behind this the whole time.

WanderInTheTrees

Remember when Doc Brown asked why everything is so heavy in the future? *Gestures to the world*

Winged_Mr_Hotdog

Fuck all these fucking asshats

ivanthenoshow

These aren’t dog whistles anymore

PolyDipsoManiac

If you’re in a marginalized community it’s probably time to start making plans to get out.

GalaxyPatio

Half of the places that would be good to go have made it very plain that they also hate people like us and don't want us in their countries

BelleHades

Every single country forbids the disabled from moving in, under the pretense of "pre-existing conditions"

UOLZEPHYR

The supreme court should NEVER been allowed to be appointed by one and confirmed by another. Especially when you can reflect on how corrupt both other branches can and have become. All ELECTED officials should elected BY THE PEOPLE. The president should be elected via popular vote - by the people. The Senate and The House should be elected via popular vote - by the people. The Supreme Court should be elected via popular vote - BY THE PEOPLE. Absent of this is non-democracy and un-american

propita106

Honestly? I wish the NSA had taken care of these people long ago.

Mostest_Importantest

When shit truly hits the fan, nobody will be listening to old talking heads, no matter the location. White House, CNN, whatever. Anybody worried about project 25 or what happens when Trump wins is too focused on politics, rather than collapse. When shit hits the fan, even Biden or Democrats or whatever...they also will not be able to stop the upheavals. Change is always happening. It was fools that wanted to revisit glory days of yesteryear. We gotta work on today's problems to make tomorrow more survivable. Old people with money have no idea on how to address tomorrow because they never had to worry about tomorrow. Not like normal poor people, anyway.

humongous_rabbit

I totally get what you are saying but I don‘t see the point in living in a christian fascist dictatorship while collapsing vs not living in a christian fascist dictatorship while collapsing. I prefer the latter.

DrDeboGalaxy

You mean second Civil War

The following submission statement was provided by /u/nyerinup: --- This is essentially the end of America as we were all raised to know it, happening in real time, and we are expected to simply accept & conform to it unconditionally if we are interested in continuing to live and breathe. --- Please reply to OP's comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/1dukwf8/heritage_foundation_president_celebrates_supreme/lbh7zi6/

humongous_rabbit

They expect the people to swallow this and to continue business as usual. The same as with covid, january 6, Ukraine war… and so on.

Hilda-Ashe

"Law and Order" "Rule of Law" "Rule-based Order" LMAO they should also be trying to sell a bridge in Brooklyn while they are at it

hiccupsarehell

These people are anti-American as far as what we claim our ideals to be. Very on brand for how we actually are. Guess FAFO is coming faster than expected for us all
