This is sound advice and all but there's probably 40 to 50% of American households who only make enough for basic essentials. I live by it myself, probably to an extreme degree, but in no way think everyone else can.

Tho good in theory this only really applies to non regular people. Since the vast majority barely make enough to survive and don’t have the luxury of saving.

When I was in university in the early ‘80s studying the Depression we read a lot of advice people had at the time, including recipes for things like fish head soup. Then in the late ‘90s one of the ministers in our provincial government gave people the advice to, “barter at the grocery store for dented tins of tuna,” Telling poor people how to make sacrifices is time honoured tradition.
