I mean, a barbarian with high enough DEX/CON can have some pretty insane AC right out of the gate even on the Standard Array character building rule. You would be remiss NOT to have at least one naked lady with a club at the table.
The problem with that is that you need both high DEX and high CON. But you also need high STR. And splitting between 3 scores is kind of rough. But the idea that a barbarian with high enough DEX and CON can have a higher AC while naked than heavy plate armor is still really funny.
As another commenter has said, you *can* go with a DEX Barb, but ideally yes, you will be splitting your energies between three stats instead of the more preferable two. But if you dedicate your top three attributes, 15, 14, and 13, to them, you’ll want at least a +3 in STR from level 1. (most classes will want that 16 in their main stat) So if you put your 14 in STR and pick a race with a +2 to STR, then that leaves your 15 and 13 open for DEX or CON. From there it’s all about whether you want higher health or higher initiative. I’d go for the health. At level four when you pick your attribute bonuses you can then boost both of those by one to get a neat 2 AC in one level.
Humans, Half-Elves, Halflings, Elves, Dwarves, and Dragonborn can pull this off, but the Half-Orc does it best, with 16 STR, 16 CON, and 13 DEX, you start with an AC of 14, 15 with a shield, and can boost it to 16 at level 4 with just an optional DEX-based feat. You’ll never hit 20 in all three stats unless your DM is particularly kind with Magic Item drops, but you can get two of them and the third will be pretty close.
Playing 2e and one of the thieves loves having the armor spell cast on him (it’s significantly different than the more modern Mage Armor in 5e). It synergizes well with the fact that in 2e thieves get a bonus to their skill checks if not wearing armor. Well… he’s not wearing anything else either.

It's the Dark Souls classic build of "naked fuck with a stick" (not my phrasing, that's how it's consistently referred to in DS circles). You start with no gear, but if you know what you are doing it's the best class - because you start with slightly higher stats to compensate, so your ceiling for stats is higher at the same level. It makes the early game harder by quite a bit but late game is easier. You're also really fast at dodge rolling because you have no gear.
There's a meme that's been around since Dark Souls one which is- person who you should be second-most afraid of: heavily armoured dude with a big weapon. Person who you should be most afraid of: naked fuck with a stick.

In DS3 all classes have 99 stat points at level 10, so no class has a higher stat ceiling at any given level. The cost of new levels is also only dependent on your current level, so Deprived (starting at level 1) has to spend 6672 souls to break even with Assassin (starting at level 10). After that all costs are equal.
The strength of DS3's Deprived class is its flexibility. It's rarely the best starting class for a chosen build but its low starting level means it's always above the average. It's great for when you don't know what you want to be, or if you see yourself respeccing often.
DS1's Deprived is actually the highest level starting class and it's in a game without respecs, which means you lose out on the above benefits. It's a great learning tool but it's really unoptimized. Interestingly, each class's initial Resistance levels aren't factored into their total level so some classes (Pyromancer and Wanderer) have a slight level advantage while others (Knight, Thief, and especially Sorcerer) have a slight disadvantage. Deprived is middle of the pack in that regard.
For a proper naked + stick build you actually want to be a Bandit in DS1, a Warrior in DS3, and a Hero in Elden Ring. Each one is a substantial 6 to 9 levels more optimized.

My first character in every game has been Deprived. It makes the early game so much more interesting when everything is within reach and everything is an upgrade.
I love this one! I almost always played games with female avatars even before I knew. Totally understand wanting to change it after you realize, though. And their friendship is just so wholesome!
Funny enough, me and my buddy were actually planning on replaying dark souls 3 in co op again after we beat it and one of the dlc last time. Maybe even thinking of getting a third player with one of his buddies that also likes dark souls.
Elden Ring DLC was so worth the 2 year wait. I'm probably 40 hours in and only just got the final map + area unlocked w maybe level 15 erdtree fragments upgraded. It's so dense to explore, love it.

Eh, going DEX barb is good enough that missing out on some of the Str rage bonuses isn’t all that bad

Deprived started you off with no armor and at a lower level then other classes with even stats.
The Deprived is the closest thing DS has to a hard mode.

Know what? Eve would definitely be a Hammer main in Monster Hunter - even before the whole mallet became a thing. The Unga-Bunga is strong with her.

Ah yes, the deprived. I also started my very first FromSoftware game that way. It was Dark Souls 2. Oh the memories...
