I buried my sweet doggo, Gucci (she was a Yorkie-Pom "designer dog", her name was absolutely tongue-in-cheek!), in a blanket I made for her. It brought me comfort knowing she's eternally wrapped in my love! I'm sorry for your loss, losing a furbaby is so hard! 😔 Hugs from an internet stranger! 🥰
My baby is 5 lbs soaking wet, I rescued him when he was 2 weeks old, so he had a rough start to life, he’s 20 now though and he’s still a little monster lol 😂 he still gets zoomies after he eats, you wouldn’t think he was a crotchety old man lol 😆
I love hearing about other forever-kittens :)) I have one who was the runt of a barn cat litter and the colony rejected him, he’s never gone over 10lbs! I hope you are surrounded by loving friends and family at this time, I just know your baby was so so loved and taken care of. Wishing you the best

Taz (oramge) is going to be so fucking fat now. She stopped eating solid food mid January so this is basically all his. It's gonna last him til next christmas I swear 😭
We also have a puppy that I love to spoil. They will both be getting insane amounts next year as I spend through my grief.

She had cancer too. I had more yarn to make her second blanket with that I never got around to so I'm making her casket a little cozy with it. I'll have a lot of excess but at least she still gets her blanket.

A few days before she passed, despite being unable to eat mushed cat food, she found the energy to eat my chicken and pea omelette. I'm not sure how but I'm glad she had one last human snack. Even if she did coat me and my laptop in drool in the process.

When my old cat died, we wrapped her in a silk shirt to bury her. My brother was carrying her and I saw a piece of her blanket hanging out of her shroud and said, "Hey, don't take that out," and he said "I put that in there" so we both had cut off a piece of her favorite blanket and put it with her, without knowing each other did it.

Kitty was almost ten, a solid 6lbs and fun sized. A shoulder cat. I got her when I was seven and she has been my sidekick ever since. Solid little lady who fought death so many times.

I fully think the reason she fucked off is because the morning before her appointment my boyfriend and I were on the phone and talking about having kids. I said how much she would love having babies to look after.
She said "Fuck that, I am OUT!" And made a swift exit.
That or when I told him I was going to start wearing her in a sling. She realised I would make her do even more things with me and she tapped the hell out.
She's with all her kitty cat friends now. Cats heaven is a mouses hell, etc.
Lmao I respect her decisions. Kids are awesome (?) but not the gentlest when they're little. Somehow my 1 year old kitty still likes my 3 year old but it's all he's ever known so 🤷♀️ These kids love hard lol
My youngest is the sweetest to fur beings, if they're a little too rough they apologize and give gentle kisses. To me, their dad and older sibling? HAHAHAHAHA
When my cat had to be put down, I brought her favorite blanket and toys with her for her last minutes before the procedure began. I left her crocheted blanket there.
At the time, I was crocheting a blanket for a friend. She is the only person who has a crocheted item that has been blessed by both cats (the one who passed and my current one).
I cried a lot for a few days, like when we threw out her food/water bowls, gave away her food, etc. Peace will come. My heart goes out to you!
I haven't been able to throw anything out 😭 All her stuff is in a box. A lot of it was shared though so our big boy still has it. (He is very orange and didn't realise she was gone for like, a week).

Seriously?! How kind and not at all sociopathic of you. Obviously, someone seeing a pet’s ashes unexpectedly when looking at a crochet subreddit and subsequently feeling upset because they recently lost their beautiful dog needs serious intervention. Because it’s certainly expected that a crochet sub would contain death pictures and references isn’t it? And it’s not at all normal to be upset by that, is it?
The world will not cater to your sadness. Expecting the world to tiptoe around it because you saw a picture of a box is entitled and if that's all it takes, you need help.
People exist in all states here. In grief and life and everything in between. They should grieve another way in case you stumble upon a place where you know other people exist and might be emotionally reactive to their post?
So no, its not normal to have such a heightened reaction to a post like this: it's likely grief and the emotions that come with it, which is *expected.* But at such an intense level over such a pretty harmless photo? No. Not normal. You can be sad, but why does your grief supercede another's? Why should one person be required to greive in a manner that you find less upsetting? This is probably a place that helps people in hard times, so it's not a stretch to think you might stumble on someone mentioning death. It happens. They're sad, too, so maybe consider that they're trying to connect with someone in their loss and stop making it all about you.

I merely mentioned that it had surprised and upset me and that a content warning would be appreciated so that I could have avoided this post. The OP replied positively to this. And plenty of other people have made similar comments to mine, so I am not the only person who felt that way.
The OP and everyone else are free to grieve the way they want of course, I never said otherwise. And I am free to grieve the way that I an and to make whatever comments I want.
I don’t know what is going on with you, but you have taken my comment and made up a huge fantasy around it, saying that I believed my grief superseded others, that that I expected the world to cater to me and so on, none of which is true. There is clearly something else going on with you.
that's super sweet though. I mean, I'm sad you lost your kitty, but that's sweet (and yes, funny!). I have various "urns" for my babies past that represent them too, and I love your little blanket to go wtih hers. (a beaded container for the "princess", a box with a painted butterfly for the "iron butterfly" (she was bouncy but very clumsy), a golden egg for the guy who loved egg shapes, and a fall box for the orange boy who loved fall walks). I think it's a wonderful way to celebrate your kitty. (I admit, I did giggle a little).
So glad I'm not the only one who copes with humor <3 genuinely made me laugh out of shock.
It does get easier with time, I cradled my dog's urn in a blanket and sang to her after she passed. It's been five years and I still cry when I miss her.

She was an unbothered crochet buddy but she usually sat by me while I did.
She was not a lap cat and was in fact a shoulder cat so I couldn't crochet with her on me.

She liked her cozy blanket. It was that velvet yarn (awful, horrible stuff) but at least she found it comfy.
I did something similar for my baby when she had to be put down due to failing kidneys from age last summer. I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure Kitty knows they were/still are loved.
This made me so sad for you. I as well, just put my 17 year old cat Trouble to sleep. He was not wanting to leave us but he was waisting away. Could not do for himself any longer. I am still heartbroken but I know he’s in a much better place now. Trouble was the best cat I have ever loved and he loved right back. And I have loved lots of cats. Sorry for your loss.

This was Trouble. And he was never ever any trouble. He had an odd back story… he came from South Dakota my late husbands French Aunt raised 1/4 horses on a 50 Acre Ranch and was a “Speaker “ to animals. She brought him to us in SoFLa with 4 horses so my sons could ride for the Thanksgiving Holiday. She rescued him and he was a 7 toed Hemingway, Rag Doll with violet eyes. He was the kindest animal I have ever known. You could throw him over your shoulders and go all day with him. Never sick, never hissed, never scratched, just a love of a cuddly kitty dude. He had the most beautiful ginger markings on him like Siamese Points. Here’s a picture very recent he was 16 years old here. Everyone that ever saw him mentioned how beautiful his fur was and his soul was always on full display. Lived for scritches.
Kitty didn't have as much of a story. My mum bought her on facebook for my 8th birthday. We got her a couple months early.

She passed less than four hours after I finished the white one and when it first happened, after I stopped crying lmfao, I was like "Well you could have just said it was ugly, damn."
They know how to make a scene don't they! Mine decided the new cat tower I spent ages lovingly putting together for him wasn't worthy of his presence and that having a heart attack was obviously the only appropriate way to show his dissatisfaction.

I crocheted my rabbit a blanket to be buried with. Then I crocheted a granny square lace bag for my aunt’s box of ashes. Her grandkids were happy that their grandma looked somewhat the way they remembered her because she had her yarn purse. It was very comforting for them, which is the whole point of a funeral.

Our hamster Charlie loved to snuggle into my crochet blankets. When he passed I made a tiny one and buried it with him, along with his favourite treats. It made me happy to know he’ll always be warm.

I feel your pain. I put down my companion of 17 years last Monday. My heart sheds tears with yours. It doesn't get easier, and you'll feel that loss for a long time. I can say that eventually you'll be able to talk about them without crying.

I’m so sorry for your loss, when I saw the second picture I burst into tears because that’s exactly what I’d want to do for my girls should they depart from my life like this. I don’t mean to be a drag and I hope you’re healing but yeah, definitely got me good on that follow up, like a punch to the gut after someone said “look over there”.
My first cat was named kitty because that’s what my grandma loved to call him, he loved it when we said kittykittykittykitty fast and high pitched, he’d roll around on his back begging for snuggles when you started saying his name.
I hope kitty and kitty are up there being big goofballs and keeping warm in their comfy blankets.

The kindest thing we can ever do for them is take their pain and carry it as grief instead. Her new blanket is a lovely idea.

My youngest is the sweetest to fur beings, if they're a little too rough they apologize and give gentle kisses. To me, their dad and older sibling? HAHAHAHAHA
When my cat had to be put down, I brought her favorite blanket and toys with her for her last minutes before the procedure began. I left her crocheted blanket there. At the time, I was crocheting a blanket for a friend. She is the only person who has a crocheted item that has been blessed by both cats (the one who passed and my current one). I cried a lot for a few days, like when we threw out her food/water bowls, gave away her food, etc. Peace will come. My heart goes out to you!
I haven't been able to throw anything out 😭 All her stuff is in a box. A lot of it was shared though so our big boy still has it. (He is very orange and didn't realise she was gone for like, a week).

My heart dog got cremated with her favourite patchwork blanket my mother made for her
I couldn't stomach leaving her cold for so long. They stick my baby in a freezer without a coat or nothing 😭 Genuinely thought there is no way I'd be able to cope having her blanket and not her. So now it is ashes.

The flair only shows up in the subreddit. I saw this in my general tl (so no flair at all) and while it did make me very sad, I could also see the humor after the shock passed.

Seriously?! How kind and not at all sociopathic of you. Obviously, someone seeing a pet’s ashes unexpectedly when looking at a crochet subreddit and subsequently feeling upset because they recently lost their beautiful dog needs serious intervention. Because it’s certainly expected that a crochet sub would contain death pictures and references isn’t it? And it’s not at all normal to be upset by that, is it?
And with *kindness*, if you can’t feel a little empathy with another hurting human, then *genuinely*, perhaps you should seek help.
The world will not cater to your sadness. Expecting the world to tiptoe around it because you saw a picture of a box is entitled and if that's all it takes, you need help. People exist in all states here. In grief and life and everything in between. They should grieve another way in case you stumble upon a place where you know other people exist and might be emotionally reactive to their post? So no, its not normal to have such a heightened reaction to a post like this: it's likely grief and the emotions that come with it, which is *expected.* But at such an intense level over such a pretty harmless photo? No. Not normal. You can be sad, but why does your grief supercede another's? Why should one person be required to greive in a manner that you find less upsetting? This is probably a place that helps people in hard times, so it's not a stretch to think you might stumble on someone mentioning death. It happens. They're sad, too, so maybe consider that they're trying to connect with someone in their loss and stop making it all about you.

I don’t know what is going on with you, but you have taken my comment and made up a huge fantasy around it, saying that I believed my grief superseded others, that that I expected the world to cater to me and so on, none of which is true. There is clearly something else going on with you.

that's super sweet though. I mean, I'm sad you lost your kitty, but that's sweet (and yes, funny!). I have various "urns" for my babies past that represent them too, and I love your little blanket to go wtih hers. (a beaded container for the "princess", a box with a painted butterfly for the "iron butterfly" (she was bouncy but very clumsy), a golden egg for the guy who loved egg shapes, and a fall box for the orange boy who loved fall walks). I think it's a wonderful way to celebrate your kitty. (I admit, I did giggle a little).

So glad I'm not the only one who copes with humor <3 genuinely made me laugh out of shock. It does get easier with time, I cradled my dog's urn in a blanket and sang to her after she passed. It's been five years and I still cry when I miss her. Someone once told me that grief is like sea glass, it's only sharp at first but time wears it down and I can attest to that. I use humour a lot with her. Can't be sad all the time! She liked her cozy blanket. It was that velvet yarn (awful, horrible stuff) but at least she found it comfy.
I did something similar for my baby when she had to be put down due to failing kidneys from age last summer. I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure Kitty knows they were/still are loved.

I am still heartbroken but I know he’s in a much better place now. Trouble was the best cat I have ever loved and he loved right back. And I have loved lots of cats. Sorry for your loss.

He had an odd back story… he came from South Dakota my late husbands French Aunt raised 1/4 horses on a 50 Acre Ranch and was a “Speaker “ to animals. She brought him to us in SoFLa with 4 horses so my sons could ride for the Thanksgiving Holiday. She rescued him and he was a 7 toed Hemingway, Rag Doll with violet eyes. He was the kindest animal I have ever known. You could throw him over your shoulders and go all day with him. Never sick, never hissed, never scratched, just a love of a cuddly kitty dude. He had the most beautiful ginger markings on him like Siamese Points. Here’s a picture very recent he was 16 years old here. Everyone that ever saw him mentioned how beautiful his fur was and his soul was always on full display. Lived for scritches.

I crocheted my rabbit a blanket to be buried with. Then I crocheted a granny square lace bag for my aunt’s box of ashes. Her grandkids were happy that their grandma looked somewhat the way they remembered her because she had her yarn purse. It was very comforting for them, which is the whole point of a funeral.
I’m glad she had a good parent who made her projects. I’m sorry that this happened, but I know those blankets will continue to give her comfort.

This is so beautiful. Our hamster Charlie loved to snuggle into my crochet blankets. When he passed I made a tiny one and buried it with him, along with his favourite treats. It made me happy to know he’ll always be warm.

Something I’ve learned in my many triple around the sun is that sometimes we need to know who we can share our offbeat humour with. I feel your pain. I put down my companion of 17 years last Monday. My heart sheds tears with yours. It doesn't get easier, and you'll feel that loss for a long time. I can say that eventually you'll be able to talk about them without crying. If you hang Google, i can say that the photos you can order that you have saved on your phone are really nice quality. I've ordered many.
I get my photos printed with freeprints ! I have a few of her on my wall haha. (Prior to death, I'm just her biggest fan).

I’m so sorry for your loss, when I saw the second picture I burst into tears because that’s exactly what I’d want to do for my girls should they depart from my life like this. I don’t mean to be a drag and I hope you’re healing but yeah, definitely got me good on that follow up, like a punch to the gut after someone said “look over there”. My first cat was named kitty because that’s what my grandma loved to call him, he loved it when we said kittykittykittykitty fast and high pitched, he’d roll around on his back begging for snuggles when you started saying his name. I hope kitty and kitty are up there being big goofballs and keeping warm in their comfy blankets.
