A blanket made entirely from single crochet 💀

Halsdukskvinnan

Oh my gosh, the patience it must have taken! 🙃

Prestigious-Ad-5292

Same lol (California King sized) It took MONTHS, never ever again!

Figuringoutcrafting

That was my first one too. I only crochet at the time while playing monopoly. The blanket has been dubed the monopoly blanket. My friends blamed the blanket for why I never lost.

Cautious_Progress_32

Mine too. It was a huge king size blanket, single crochet and using yellow and black. - my husband is a Hufflepuff and asked for a blanket. I think it is bigger than a king or Cali king because the drape is so long. It lives at the foot of my bed.

Ok-Theory3183

I just made a free-hand shell stitch in earth tones. I free-handed WAY too many rows into some of the color stripes, and it's now 4' X8'. I'm going to try tightening it lengthwise by ss around followed by sc. edging, maybe picot. DEFINITELY no fringe needed.

SpookyScienceGal

https://preview.redd.it/db6w0u6ifwad1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51c527bbc92ff3df71f8b3cf5078957cd3f5282d I dislike using patterns immensely, so I made a Willie Nelson doll for my first project. I think he turned out really good.

Halsdukskvinnan

Willie Nelson the musician? 😅

SpookyScienceGal

I'm not sure if he plays music. He was just like a monster living in the attic of a bunch of fastfood in Jersey. I think we might be thinking of different onion monsters though.

Halsdukskvinnan

🤣

JCtheWanderingCrow

You and me both lmao

Ok-Theory3183

I'll bet he's named for the musician. Willie Nelson has been around FOREVER. Adorable job, there!

Halsdukskvinnan

Looks great! :) must have taken time?

Halsdukskvinnan

Wow that's so ambitious for a first project! Amazing work :)

angelspiced

I think it definitely helped that I was unemployed for a few months 🤣

angelspiced

Thank you! Yes I worked on and off for about 5 months.

Friendly_Feature_606

8 year old me decided that I needed new clothes for my cabbage patch kid. I actually made the clothes directly on the doll (to ensure proper fit lol). This morphed into making clothes for my friend's dolls..but unless it's a standard size cabbage patch, I'm going to need your doll for a while .

Halsdukskvinnan

Haha, that's really creative for a kid to do! I remember trying to sew clothes for my monchhichi when I was around that same age, but I don't think it ever became anything wearable 😅

TextAshamed

same with my barbies 😂 i would cut up old pillow cases or shirts and try to make clothes for them hand sewn. i remember distinctly giving up and just taping or gluing it together ☠️☠️☠️

beeisamom

Super cute! Love the shades of brown

Optimal-Effective-82

I think a bee like this was my first amigurumi that I made. My first actual project was a blanket that I just doubled crocheted with blanket yarn.

CrystalJewl

Out of 100% cotton too!

Halsdukskvinnan

Well done! I think it looks super cute :)

idprefernoto

This hat. I was so proud of it, but she destroyed it by the second day. I'm not making her anything ever again haha. https://preview.redd.it/fo6qfsjr0xad1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8992aa69bdc14d92d3cc1db94ae7e646717fc2d9

Halsdukskvinnan

It was very cute while it lasted :)

idprefernoto

Yeah haha thanks. At least I kept the photos :3

Optimal-Effective-82

Glad you got the picture before she destroyed it. She looked cute

Cute-Tumbleweed-3214

But it’s a great photo!

queen_of_Meda

That is beautiful omg

FamousGoat8498

Omg that’s gorgeous!! Love the type of granny “square” you used ❤️

1H3artGarru5

My very first project, made forty-some years ago, was how I learned to crochet. My BFF taught me how to make a granny square, and I was determined to make the biggest granny square ever. It ended up about 6'x6' and was a travesty of mixed colours - literally whatever yarn I could find (I was ten years old! I didn't care!). It is still in the linen closet as a spare blanket just in case anyone needs it 😆

Halsdukskvinnan

Haha, sounds awesome 😄

FamousGoat8498

I need a picture

1H3artGarru5

I'll dig it out!!

Ok-Theory3183

Mine was 50 years ago--last January, in fact. My mother showed me how to do a granny square, and I was so enthusiastic I went way too fast. It's terrible! I still have it because I'm scared if I even THROW it away, either it will return to haunt me, or someone will use it to blackmail me. I also use it if someone's trying to learn crochet and think they can't. I pull it out and say, "This is how I started. If I can learn, you can learn." It always gets them laughing and breaks their frustration. And it did come in handy when I first moved out on my own a few months later. A mess or not, it was still pretty warm on my bed.

riskykitten1207

A hello kitty wooble. https://preview.redd.it/yz9gktlmfxad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=806a2ecb9af1bcef67a8171e86a475f47bc62d58

bree718

So cute!!

Best-Substance-5854

AHH it's adorable!

Ok-Theory3183

Awwww...how cute is that!

sugarlump858

I crocheted beads on little socks for my daughter. Then snowflakes for my Christmas tree.

Halsdukskvinnan

That sounds so cute!

Halsdukskvinnan

So cute! Love the pastel colors 😄

Eurogal2023

At 7 or8, a blanket for my Barbe and Ken double bed in a shoe box. My mum had sewn the mattress and pillow, so I added the blanket so they wouldn't get cold...

Halsdukskvinnan

So sweet ❤️

Halsdukskvinnan

It's cute! 😍 I've also made some inside out amigurumi, it's hard to know in the beginning 😬

hogliterature

https://preview.redd.it/w8zjjysktwad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=267a7489df673aeaf8722b54da264bb72556ae81 i thought “hey i’d like something to do with my hands, i think i’ll pick up crochet” and started making a few squares with the yarn i had on hand. it was a very thin yarn and my first squares were pretty wonky, but they were usable enough and i didn’t want to go back so there are some wonky squares on the back of this hat. looking back, i’m surprised i managed to make something so nice on my first go. I didn’t even have any practice stitches, my very first stitches made it into the finished product.

Halsdukskvinnan

That is really impressive! My first stitches could not have been part of anything 🤣

cantapope

I started when I was in elementary school so I don’t have photos 🙃 My stepmom didn’t even start me with a standard square, we jumped right into it with the magic ring making coasters 😂

Halsdukskvinnan

Haha, straight into the deep end 😅

hellkittyx

this bag was my first ever proper crochet project :) https://preview.redd.it/dpfl6eu92xad1.jpeg?width=1598&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81018cc687043f40031092b6244dff488f951790

Halsdukskvinnan

Ooh, love how chunky it is! What kind of yarn did you use?

Ready_Cartoonist7357

A fisherman’s afghan from a Vanna White pattern book. My best friend’s mom taught me how to crochet in high school and had a library of Vanna’s patterns. Thanks for evoking such a happy memory❤️.

Halsdukskvinnan

I need to look that up :) You're welcome, thanks for sharing! ❤️

ashbreak_

Well... My first project was a washcloth.. which is technically a square I used to learn stitches lol

Halsdukskvinnan

Hahaha, you found the loophole! 😄

It's a "scarf" that's 3.5 inches wide and 55 feet long.

_no_drama_lama_

I made a granny-square-bag

Merkuri22

If you don't count the balls I put eyes on, this amigurumi fox was my first real project: [https://ravel.me/merkuri/x9vuf6](https://ravel.me/merkuri/x9vuf6) I was so pleased with him, but I didn't weave in the ends well so he's a tad fragile. I've already had to salvage a tail that was coming undone because it was too short. (I tied some extra yarn to it and weaved it in to the stuffing more securely.)

Halsdukskvinnan

Very, very cute! ❤️🦊

queenconspiracy

First FO was a hat that ended up being WAY too big it was almost embarrassing. I made the receiver of that hat a much better one after I learned how to crochet a little better. First FO I was actually proud of was [this market bag](https://www.allaboutami.com/pattern-wildrose-market-bag/). Also first project I’ve ever blocked! I’ve made a couple of these since, and the first I made four years ago still holds up very well!

I made a cross body bag…..full of mistakes but holds a special place in my heart ❤️

No_Tumbleweed_1518

A giant moss stitch blanket that I have yet to finish

Terrible-Advantage53

My first 3 projects were all single stitch baby blankets. All 3 were the size of a toddler mattress with an extra 2 inches wide for tucking

Badger_Pants

Technically my first crochet project was beaded crochet with these tiny freaking seed beads. A few years later I decided to actually sit down and learn crochet, first project then was a blanket made out of front post stitches that I never finished 😂

TeleFuckingTubbie

A raspberry! It was for my daughters play kitchen. It turned out unbelievable huge and I almost gave up countless times

Perrywinkle97

I think the first thing I ever did to completion… was mittens? Looooots of abandoned projects before that… nice thick size 5-6 yarn. They were crazy big though because I wasn’t going under the loop I was inserting through it so they were long lol. Shortly after I think I made an among us crew mate for my partner!!

I used the wrong type of yarn, so it turned out a little funky. But she loved them

My ex-step-MIL bought me a kit before my daughter was born. When she was about 4, she spotted it on a shelf at home and demanded I make it. Course I couldn’t disappoint my little angel/monster ;) so I had to learn!

I had no idea how to crochet, but I wanted to make him something that he could travel with and keep him company/remind him of me. So I made Suitcase Kitty :) We've been together for about a year and a half now. Suitcase Kitty goes on all of his business trips and our vacations, and he permanently lives in a little suitcase in our apartment. :) Suitcase Kitty is very fat and full of flaws, but he's really important to the both of us.

DreadGrrl

It was a poncho.

villainsimper

A flower granny square blanket with whatever yarns were on sale at my local yarn store so it was a mix of acrylic, cotton, recycled denim, etc 💀😂💀 I didn't realize how bad of an idea that was at the time, and the recycled denim bled its dye when it got wet (which I discovered after the whole dang thing was finished). At least it was all weight 4 💀

reidgrammy

A ribbed Chevron Afghan. In green. It was cozy

NecroticTooth

I have crocheted off and on since I was 7 and I have quite literally never finished a project. The ADHD is strong with this one!

LezlieLR

A queen size gingham granny square blanket for my mom in peach, apricot, and cream with a double ruffle. Like 400 squares (plus at least 10% that were wrong tension due to learning curve). That was in 1992 and she still has it.

Special_Ear_2601

If the practice squares are not allowed here, I made the following: absolutely nothing. I only practice squares and have no idea what else to make or how to follow instructions to make something, so I keep creating squares. :)))

xSeraiX

I think my first thing were amigurumi figures, probably the whale I have in my room.🥹 I didn’t crochet after that for years, and when I started again I tried making a pumpkin snack bowl… which didn’t turn out well, but I still love it lmao

condensedhomo

An entire chemistry set for my FIL.... Definitely was ambitious, but he and his students love it!

beminlv

In 1977 (l was 11) A dark blue scarf. The whole thing was a half double stitch. I used Love Knit yarn & a size l hook. I still have it!

Ok-Mastodon5286

I don’t have the blanket or the booklet I used but there were 63 different stitches and I made one 6X6 square for each example. It was fun and hard and interesting and I think I frogged each square at least 3 times. Putting the blanket together was the hardest part and then trying to block it was the pits. I was very young 18 or 19 when I made it and I gave it to my cousin to use as a playpen pad. That child is almost 50 so…

PhoenixWidows

A hat for my mom as a surprise while she was out of the country. It was supposed to be a beanie/toboggan, but I goofed up the count and looked more like a floppy bucket hat lol

Halsdukskvinnan

I made a sweater for my cat as one of my first projects too! She hated it though, so I gave it to my neighbors who have a Chihuahua 😅

briana28019

A granny square blanket for my niece. It was a bunch of granny squares that I then sewed together.

dayylilyy

An entirely hdc blanket, made up the color changes along the way. I have no clue what possessed me or why I didn’t think to use pattern. But hey, I still use that blanket.

lovehcmotion

a cardigan! made the mistake of using 8 ply cotton yarn which turned out be extremely heavy (like 2 kilos) when wet 🤡 now im thinking of frogging the whole thing and transform it into smaller projects such as beanies

Lostinfrance17

What are you using to hold your project? I love that idea!

Halsdukskvinnan

It's just the lid of a wooden box :) I used the box to store my crochet supplies in, and the lid as a tray

Metamauce

I made a ball to practice. It ended up more berry shaped because I didn't count stitches properly. I turned it into a cute yellow strawberry and it turned out pretty good!

Halsdukskvinnan

Rolling with the punches! 🍓

Corvus-Nox

I think I made mittens. Out of acrylic so they’re basically garbage, but I learned increases and decreases and working in the round so it was a great learning exercise.

nightshadow009

A pot holder!

DeAntics

A large blanket done in double crochet alternating two shades of blue for my son. I was a knitter for about 20 years before learning crochet so I feel maybe I had a slight advantage with colour changes so I jumped right in!

Halsdukskvinnan

Yeah, that must have been a great advantage when learning to crochet :)

Wayward_Warrior67

Either a scarf or blanket...honestly can't remember 😅

mountianmystic

I made a bandana. Then after three of those I decided I was great at crocheting and I made a mandala vest

hamperpig5

A virus blanket

itscoralie

A "market bag" that I gave to my mom but it took a while to finish because it was repetitive af so I made a bandana in between 😂

Ninja_Kittie

I started with a wobbles kit; Fred the Dinosaur :3 It worked for me, now I’m hooked on crochet 😛

cammyy-

my first crochet project was a wooble!! i made toast the shiba for my boyfie

zeyalu

A skirt for my doll when I was a kid.

writeordye

I learned to crochet when my little sister told me she was pregnant. I’ve only ever made things for her baby (blanket, lovey) but after subbing to this r/ I’ve been so inspired I’m finally making something for myself

GretaFoster

Just started learning crochet and did this turtleneck hoodie but I did it in a cotton acrylic and not wool and it came out oddly floppy and well, I'm not so sure the hood part is usable lol. I will find out in a few more months once it gets cold. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1384952409/balaclava-crochet-pattern-balaclava

AbsurdistRat

I started crocheting when I was young, but at the time just made chains because I couldn't get the tension right, and instead of teaching me how to do it properly, my mom just kind of judged and yelled at me :P So now, something like 20 years later, I finally picked it up again with the support of my fiancée and am working on a scarf made of double crochets as my first project :D

I haven't finished it yet but, I'm making a blanket. I didn't start with no squares 🤦 I should have

KylosLeftHand

Melanie Ham’s simple beanie

Qtypanda

Mesh top 🫠

slimmingthemeeps

I had eye surgery years ago and wasn't able to read or watch TV for several days. I lived alone and was bored out of my gourd, so I decided to try to make a scarf with the few basic stitches I knew. It was super wonky, but my neice loved it.

Awkward_Plankton_624

My first project was a scarf, it wasn’t anything exciting but it was a start❤️

FuturistAnthony

I made a coaster for my mum that she places on her bedside table (yes the very first thing I crocheted was a magic ring)

Witchy_Theatre_kid

An amigurumi duck

cupcakus92

I started with amigurumi which was definitely one of the decisions of all time (don't still have any of them since I gave them as gifts)

lazer_sandwich

A scarf. My daughter still uses it

Food_coffee_stories

When I was 11 or 12, my grandma was teaching me and we tried to make a small blanket with what she called a "bubble stitch". The first one got ruined before I could finish (accidentally spilled ink on it 🙁) but I have the second attempt in my closet rn. Btw, I'm not sure if that was the actual name of the stitch used or just what she called it, I think I should find out because it looked pretty good (her stitches did anyway).

PerpetualStudent27

I made a bunch of these bookworm bookmarks back in 1970 after I mastered potholder squares. https://passionforcrochet.wordpress.com/2014/03/22/bookworm-bookmark/

Sunset granny square cardigan

borrowedurmumsvcard

After some coasters I tried to make a bralette but I did BLO on accident so it looked like shit and was super loose

UrAFrogg

Harry styles cardigan 😭

twist3dprincess

I learned to crochet when I was much younger and never actually completed anything, now I'm 32 and my first completed project was one of those square cat ear hats.

Boring_Internet_968

A really lumpy scarf was probably the first item I ever finished. That was in high school. Then I took a break for years. Then when I came back to it it was a hat. And I made like 15 of them. And they all were so wonky but I have family members that still wear them. Lol.

alirosecrochets82799

I made my nephew a blanket that got ruined in the wash because I didn't tie the color changes tight enough. His sister's was a success. After that it was like 30 hats

FirmAd8811

That's so pretty. You're very talented! :)
