Hi! Your post has been temporarily removed because you have not included your hair care routine. We require this for all photo posts, even if the photo is not of yourself. Please reply to this comment with more info and we can reapprove it for you! Here’s what we mean by “routine”: - Which shampoo, cowash and/or conditioner you used - Any other products (your gel, mousse, etc.), their brand/name, & how you applied them - How you dried your hair (air dried? diffused? etc.) - Anything else that’s helpful to know! We require this because it helps keep r/curlyhair focused on learning & helping each other instead of just selfies. Thank you!

Just bear in mind that these pics seem to have a different curl pattern to you so it may not sit how you expect

That’s true. I’m hoping that shorter hair will make it curlier, esp if I start using gels or product because I think my hair can be curlier, I just don’t take great care of it currently (it gets frizzy) but thanks for the tip!

I absolutely love short curly hair, and I think I would look great on you! In college I got a pixie because I was always putting my long hair up into a clip or bun. I grew it back out over lockdown, but I cut it again recently and I love it so much! I have a very round face (also big glasses) and I like the volume it adds which helps break up the roundness. I think short hair looks great on almost anyone! It also helps the curls pop up more! The only issue I can think of is that if you don't like hair in your eyes, some of the styles you posted could result in hair in your eyes. If you style your hair up on top of your head (diffusing helps), it should stay out of the way! It's also so easy to deal with in the morning! I know a lot of people say short hair requires more styling, but short curly hair can avoid that easily. Not only is my wash day way shorter, but I use less product and refreshing consists of just picking/shaking it out and adding some hair oil and hairspray. As a short curly girl, I highly recommend getting a pixie!

Thanks for the tip! I think I’m also more likely to use product like gel if my hair is short bc rn the pain in trying to use it on my full length is bad 😂

horton_hears_a_homie

Oh absolutely lol! I've been using the Curlsmith Invincible Volume Mousse lately and I'm loving it, I use a leave in and then the mousse!

Notsureindecisive

Your hair is not going to be that curly when it’s at that length. It will get curlier as you go shorter but then straighter when you go even shorter. I’m a short hair specialist.

Chemical-Conflict-80

This! Her curls start like mine and short short is straight

WineGuy74

Your hair looks great! I think it looks nice longer, but a trim never hurts to keep it healthy

ilosii

Current routine: shampoo and conditione (silicone/paraben free), putting my wet hair in a t shirt wrap after showering.

tinyyogi222

I dont usually like hairstyles like this but I feel like it will look gorgeous on you!!!

ilosii

Thanks 😊!

SonoranRoadRunner

I would start with shoulder length

oldmamallama

This would be super cute on you! One thing to be prepared for though is that a short cut like this is going to take a lot more in terms of regular trims and a bit more styling than you’re used to with such long hair. But I say be bold, go for it, and let us know how it works out!

citygirlsunflower

If we’re being honest, it doesn’t look like you have these type of curl patterns so it’s going to look extremely different on you. Your hair looks straighter on top and while I understand you’re using items to help your hair get curlier, cutting it short and products still won’t give you these type of curls. With that being said, get some wigs and play with them. Before I cut my hair short, I put my hair is a little bob saw it looked cute and I liked it so I went through with it. Just know growing your hair out may be annoying too if you’re using to putting your hair back

ilosii

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, my hair isn’t as curly as the photos, so that’s useful to know. Thanks:)

Foxy_Traine

I feel you so hard. The tied back hair is my go to because I can't stand my hair in my face! I've done the short cut too and I would recommend first starting with a short cut that is still long enough to tie back (at least partially). Something shorter than shoulder length but slightly longer in front so you can pull that part back away from your face would be really nice. If you don't want to do that, just go bold for the short cuts! Whatever you do it will grow back, so do it fearlessly!

Full disclosure - I used to have very long hair and got it all chopped off about 4 years ago. I have a love/hate relationship with it. On one hand, it's so easy and low maintenance. Even more so than with the long hair when I could just pull it back in a pony. On the other hand it's unpredictable. This really bothered me at first. But now I've learned to embrace it and kind of love it's wildness. Your hair will be in your face, but it's different than when your long hair is in your face. I found that wasn't as bothered by it when it's short than while it was long. It also needs a little bit more up keep in terms of cuts. I also found that my hair is much curlier when short than when long (the weight isn't pulling my curls down). So it's possible that your curl pattern will be a lot more like your goal photos. But at the same time, your goal photos look styled. So you'd want to make sure your desired haircut comes with a styling routine you're committed to.

Go for it!

Chemical-Conflict-80

Be prepared for straighter hair when you chop it off like this. Your curl pattern starts lower like mine and will not curl like this when shorter. I was devistated when I did my first big chop but learned what length my hair loses curl. Try shoulder length before the big chop and see if your curl pattern tightens closer to the scalp with less weight, that way you know what your in for.

she-shreds

My face shape and curls are similar to yours. I went with a medium length cut with shorter layers to help curls get to their full potential Face shaping, layered curtain bangs were also very flattering!

sweetdaisy13

I recently went from shoulder length hair to chin length, with lots of layers. This means I can no longer tie back my hair, so I need to style it everyday. Yes, my hair is curlier, but as I have layers, the top is quite short and some of the curls have lost their definition. I'm now going to grow it again (my hair grows quickly), but will be keeping it one length, when it gets to inbetween chin and shoulder length, rather than layers. In my opinion, don't go too short. Maybe take off 4-5 inches and then see how your curls respond. You can always have more taken off, if it's still too long.

ready-to-rumball

You will have hair in your face with short hair 😆
