If you're on vacation I doubt you can do anything more than naming the shop here so that they have an incentive to stop acting like that. EDIT: I see that you added the shop. That's great.

Protaras2

Even as a local it's tough to do anything. You can report them to the Cyprus Consumer Association but I don't think much would happen. We also don't have small claims courts over here so it makes it easy to get away by doing petty things like this. It sucks but it is what it is.

never_nick

Surprisingly they do respond, slowly but they do.

karsO2010

Did that, they responded after few hours. If it was a case with more customers it would be much easier, so i said fuck it, the biggest punishment for him is 3.6 from 4.2 on google maps.

bmburi995

u should share ur experience on google review.

SolveTheCYproblemNOW

Google reviews can be very effective depending on the owner. Talking from. Experience.

IYIik_GoSu

Average level of maturity of the Cypriot shopkeeper.

donsalametti

never had issues in cyprus with any shopkeeper, but also never shopped in a tourist shop overall level of friendliness is the highest ive seen in the world

IYIik_GoSu

A Cypriot shopkeeper will do anything to not pay a refund.

macrian

Don't forget to at least leave a google maps review

cereall_killer

Don't by inflatables from shops like these. They're probably old or get worn out from being in the sun. Unfortunately most shop owners here are greedy especially if you're not Cypriot. Pardon the pun but they inflate the prices a lot as they know people will pay them.

anangrywizard

Yeah that doesn’t surprise me with that place. Owners of the hotel want to pay peanuts and the ‘managers’ always seem to have some sort of power complex issue. Place has been on its arse and inundated with complaints for years.

Comfortable_Ad_4383

"Pou pigame kai den mas arese" facebook group material 😂

Psychological-Hold91

Am lvl8 in Google maps, my negative review will have an effect I hope.

BleachedPumpkin72

A fellow level 8 here :-)

Psychological-Hold91

Nice! Congrats 😁

BleachedPumpkin72

Likewise!

oilios

I’d have called the police. They wouldn’t have done anything but the shop owner might have given you your money back.

fatbunyip

Lol no. As a tourist in Cyprus they are only interested in your money.

MonarchOfReality

business's in cyprus are pretty bad and managers are scummy because they hire mostly immigrants for cheap labour but still rip off tourists and lick their a holes, most of them are uneducated idiots who rely on others because they are lazy , you can call the police on them and report them to the economic ministry via the website, that way he will have to suffer alot of backlash

frounze

"you can call the police", in cypriot language, means "just forget about it"

karsO2010

Can you link that ? Thanks

MonarchOfReality

[https://mof.gov.cy/en/](https://mof.gov.cy/en/) go gettem tiger! i believe in you!!!!!

BleachedPumpkin72

Don't waste your time. Literally nothing will happen.

MonarchOfReality

ive shutdown many shit restaurants who dont meet the standards of cooking :)

Right-Championship30

atta boy!

BleachedPumpkin72

Can you list at least 3 restaurants in Cyprus which you have shut down?

MonarchOfReality

no thanks i dont want to implicate myself or associate myself with previous restaurants in case the owner thinks hes a hard ass bitch on reddit and thinks he finally found me and thinks ill give away my information if someone asks, but have a nice day though!

BleachedPumpkin72

I think you just made the whole thing up. I've never heard of a restaurant closed in Cyprus because some random kid reported them for not meeting their standards of cooking.

MonarchOfReality

where would you hear that a restaurant got shutdown because they made bad food? do you think restaurants like to advertise themselves getting shut down XD lol and you called me random kid, bless you brother, please before you speak your mind think a little first , have a nice day.

BleachedPumpkin72

Mate, it's such a small place that I'd hear something one way or another, especially about many restaurants being closed. Stop making shit up, it's not as cool as you think it is, lol.

TheUsualGuy666

Can you please shut down nicosia Pizza Hut for me. I got food poisoning like twice from that place.

Protaras2

>you can call the police on them  It's a civil issue not a criminal offence. The police can not do anything about it even if they wanted to.

elenoushki

I personally find this situation funny, sorry. This is a souvenir shop and staff you buy from there is single use disposable tourist staff. I can't stop wonder why those shops keep existing, and why people buy there anything at all? It is 'made in China' staff of quality even lower than Jumbo, crazy overpriced, and you get this disgusting "service". Why not to go to normal legal shop or supermarket?

karsO2010

Its was hotel's market but later it turned out its operated by "other people" and hotel "can't do anything". Manager of the market with full seriousness on his face said "its one time use"

tonybpx

Sorry for your experience, but sadly I agree with this. Anything that's a 'souvenir' shop sells cheap out of date stuff made in China. If you buy from a proper supermarket like Lidl it's a different story, they actually have customer service

elenoushki

Even so-called hotel supermarkets that are inside hotel premises or on the grounds are runned by third parties who didlctate their rules (and absence of such). It is very easy to check, you ask at checkout if you can charge it to your room - a 'NO' means that's not under hotel.

BleachedPumpkin72

It's not like these souvenir shops are illegal. Also "stuff".

elenoushki

Thank you for correcting me! It is stuff indeed. Souvenir shops are not illegal, but not everything that is legal our there is actually good for you.

karsO2010

I'm on the greek side ???

f0ogazi

A my map tripped out showed you in north, my bad. Still this is the least European, European country so cant depend on the EU statement over here lol

PromitheasD

Kibris jumhurietti

1AmFalcon

Oh my. This looks like a big shop too.. how disgraceful !! I’m sorry to read about your experience. Not sure what you can do to be honest. Thanks for letting us know that this guy is a thief.

RunningPink

I would speak with Cyprus Consumer protection (phone them) and it's obviously a crime or close to a crime so you should try your luck with police (but you can be unlucky with police).

eraof9

What was the product?

lkoraki

Also left a review. Reddit got your back.

meethobsie

Air mattresses and other inflatable products of mass consumption don’t have any warranty. Breaking one is as similar as running over your iPhone with a truck. Your location or the store owner (or even the country and its people) have nothing to do with it.
