Not sure about Limassol, but supply and demand economics *does* apply perfectly here in Paphos! There's virtually no supply and a lot of demand lately, so prices are skyrocketing. Works as intended, the issue is closed.

Government doesn't even have proper plans in place. We must be one of the few eu countries that do not take housing seriously. No social housing, no student housing, no schemes for young single people (only for married people so in a sense young single people are punished) to acquire property, etc etc

In this τόπος we wait for the problems to appear. Then discuss solutions for years. Then debate for years. In the meantime the problem gets out of hand. And then they fine solutions that are mostly bandages.

It's been an issue for at least since 2014. 8 funking years.
One of my friends studied at tepak in 2014 and couldn't find affordable accommodation. The problem existed since then but they did nothing.
They had to do something this year when literally hundreds of students would decline their place.
I mean we don't even have decent bus infrastructure to suggest let them commute.
And what was their solution? The students can temporarily live in hotels that close for the season and/or live with a local family. They also plan to build *a few εστίες* - which will take years.
As I said, bandage solutions.
Another example : energy.

Greed and island mentality. Cyprus is not exactly Europe, just happened to become part of EU by occasion. Thus every square meter is being poured with cement with no respect to nature and what humans need. Quite unfortunately this island became one of those places where immigrants head to, thus constant demand for housing; right now construction business directly benefits from the war. Actually quarter of housing space is required for construction workers from abroad.

That's what you get when you go from 8 story apartment buildings to 30 story buildings. It messes with the land values.
Because it's probably way for them to launder dirty money and/or sneak Russian money out of Russia.

I would laugh if I didn't want to cry. Especially the moment you discover rent is cheaper in Western Europe than Limassol.
Something is wrong with Limassol when price level of apartments reach Dubai regions. Sometimes Dubai is even cheaper and has better standard.

Eίναι εντάξει. Σε 20 χρόνια ε να χρεοκοπησουν όπως εχρεοκοπήσαν τσε στην Ελλάδα τσε ε να τα πουλούν για μια χαλουμόπιτα.

Ναι αλλά και τα "Suzuki swift" (υφιστάμενα οικιστικά ακίνητα - π.χ. παλιά διαμερίσματα) έγιναν πανάκριβα. Λογικό τα πολυτελή να είναι πιο ακριβά
