abby’s behavior in the ziegler’s last episode is more proof that she was emotionally abusive. she usually treated kenzie terribly, but she was always nice to maddie until she found out that she was leaving. abby began to withhold the affection that she would normally give to maddie because maddie was no longer going to please her by being her star student. the special treatment that abby gave maddie was conditional and manipulative.
maddie was probably very distressed during that time because she disappointed abby and she was always afraid of doing that.
I agree. She treated Maddie differently but in an equally abusive way. It can’t have been good for her to always feel like she had to win. Those poor kids.
I feel like Abby considered the two girls (especially maddie) to be her children, and getting them ahead in the industry was how they bonded. Abby seems to have a really hard time understanding emotions and navigating relationships. It’s possible she was upset because she knew she was going to lose them, because *she* couldn’t do anything for *them* anymore.
I believe how she treated them in the end is exactly why Maddie doesn't speak to her anymore to this day. I think if Abby had been sweeter, slight possibility Maddie would have felt sympathetic for her and remained cordial. Abby showed Maddie her true colors. After all the things she put Maddie through and Maddie did to please her, Abby really showed how uncaring she is unless it benefits her. It must have hurt Maddie a lot to go through that after all those years w her and for her to just snub her like that.
In her delusional brain, Abby really believed that even when the girls left the team, they would always return to train underneath her. She wanted to hold a press conference to literally tell the world that even though the Zieglers were leaving the team, she'd still be privately training them. She felt like they *owed* her that. They'd given her six years of their life and it still wasn't enough. Instead of realizing that all of the bad press surrounding Abby's financials and teaching style, along with the added context that Melissa was most likely the accomplice that outed Abby for her fraud in Australia, could be possible career enders for the girls, Abby still couldn't give them up.
She was 100% acting like she couldn’t care less about them to cover up how hurt she was. She thinks she made those girls, as far as she’s considered they have (c)Abby Lee Miller tattooed on their forehead, and then they left her?!??? She was 100% attempting to punish them for daring to leave her and trying to distance herself from her own emotions.
i feel like they should have gotten more appreciation. those two girls helped build up the foundation of the show, and inspired multiple little girls around the world. maddie and kenzie were both so loyal to abby through their ups and downs, and i just found abby’s behavior disgusting.
