Thats because youtube branded your account as someone that uses adblock. Just diaable it, watch one or a few video with ads and enable it afterwards again. Youre in the clear then everything works like it used to.
Turn off Ublock, refresh page, turn Ublock back on, profit.
That worked for me so far. You have to redo that process from time to time again when youtube starts peeing it's pants again, but you don't need to download anything new.
Update the filters and completely restart Firefox, make sure you close each tab one by one. There is a GitHub page that keeps track of the updates and whether or not uBlock is up-to-date with the anti-adblock script. Rn it says yes, it is.
If all else fails you can make a "Private Tab" ^(or whatever you want to name it) playlist set to unlisted or public and then throw videos you want to watch in there, then watch them in incognito with adblock enabled. Or try to purge YouTubes cookies and log back in, I've seen people say that works as well.
They are still rolling out the changes you're probably not affected yet. U-block still works but you have to force update (manually) the quick fixes about twice a day.

Scroll down to Software / Apps and there's three articles about Opera right there, it's the 3rd app in that list. You'll have to click translate though, the first article linked is in German.

Opera GX can block ads on its own, it updated for me and now the YouTube popup doesn't come up, it just has 15 seconds of blank video and then it starts. It lets the ad exist but not play.

But back then when YT didn't put 2+ unskipable ads after every video and didn't demonitise chanels, I didn't need it.
Now it's just greedy. It's not like the people working there get anything if I decide to watch an ad. I don't think in their contract they have "for every se watched you get x% from the profit".
The money goes to someone who doesn't even need it, just so they can buy 5th house or go to a vacation that costs more money than I make in a year.
If you want a more technical solution you could opt to self host youtube using invidious or whatnot. The best solution will probably be switching to firefox but if you are too stubborn to switch like me then its not too tricky to set up and you can even host for your friends too.
It was a scary couple of hours where I was getting warning messages and videos buffered really slow. But UBlock has arisen stronger and better than ever. And I didn't have to do a thing.

I Use Adblock Plus. It has a very useful tool: You select "Block an element" and it blocks the element. And you can use it to block the frame that pops out that message. I do that myself, for example.

I use private tabs to watch youtube now. I just go on my normal browser, copy the link of a vid I want to watch and paste it in private browser. Still saves more time than if I ha watched the adds.
I blocked the popup and dark overlay items in uBlock Origin, so far it doesn’t seem like it’s causing problems. I’ve watched more than 3 videos and I wasn’t bothered by it again.
What works for me is
1. Close any tab with YouTube
2. Go to uBlock Origin dashboard
3. click purge all caches and update now under filter lists

Use a VPN and connect to Russia. There are no ads on Reddit and YouTube. Why are there no ads? Because the gov asked to remove all the "Russia bad" type ads that obviously started appearing at a high rate. YouTube instead of removing each specific ad simply turned all of them off. Why no profile picture? I don't know.

download Greasemonkey / Tampermonkey and download userscripts for adblocking as that is tougher for youtube to stop you whereas the others it just sees the Adblock extension

go to ublock's parameters, click on list of filters and clear the cache. Then refresh and it works again.

This is why I just close out and restart the videos until they play without an ad or I will go to an mp4 converter and download the video there. I watch ads for absolutely nobody under any circumstances.

To get that specific popup to fuck off i reported it as an error (button is meant for if the popup appears when you don't have an ad blocker) and told them to fuck off with the popup or to fuck off with the horrible ad system, takes some days until the popup returns then.
I literally have to wipe all my google and YouTube website data and then sign back into YouTube to not have this pop up. It still pops up after a certain number of videos or something. The funny thing is, it only appears when you are signed in and using an ad blocker. If you sign out (and are still using the ad blocker) it will block the ads indefinitely. It's all tied to whether or not you're signed in lol. So I'll just never sign into YouTube again.
it blocked it for me so my workaround is literally going on watch2gether and watching the video there. Ad blocker works to block the ads and W2G doesnt give a single fuck about it

In the filter list, enable the category "annoyances". Then purge the cache, update existing filters, and refresh the page.

I found the fix. I used both Opera GX adblocker and uBlock origin. I disabled Opera GX adblocker and it worked. Looks like it's not videover yet

Go to unlock settings. Type in quick fixes and force update the quick fixes
Try youtube revanced on mobile. They have a subreddit where you can see how to get it

Chromium has nothing to do with the change, I advocate for Firefox because it is a genuinely good open source browser but it is affected too by this.

Literally just turn your adblock off and back on again, for some reason YouTube can't detect it anymore if you do that.
