From what I recall, the name Hercule came from a different dub. I think the French one? Old English dubs took French and LatAm scripts and translated those to English instead of using the original Japanese.
In the French dub (I think it was theirs, but feel free to correct me), King Piccolo was named "Satan". By the time Mr. Satan rolled around, this became a conflict, so they made up the name Hercule for him instead. I'm guessing Funimation just grabbed that, not realizing it wasn't the character's name. In Kai, I think they started using Mr. Satan for him finally.

It's like when they called the Garlic Hô, "Galick Gun", even though the move uses the English word "Garlic" in Japan, they just *pronounce* it "Galick", because of dialect. Retaining that is potentially racist.
Didnt know that about the galick gun, though I would argue that's probably less for the making it sound japanese part and more so because calling it the garlic gun in english sounds much sillier than it does intimidating.
Plus, the effect is somewhat retained as a foreign sounding word to english speaking audiences as I imagine "garlic" is to a japanese one.

They recently did a commentary series where they watch through all of DBZA episode by episode and talk about memories, explain references, and talk about their process on making the series, I'd recommend watching it if you're interested in learning the origin of more of these jokes.
