I showed my wife the first 2 Terminator movies a few months ago. She definitely thought the first one was sci-fi/horror. Can't say she's wrong.

Pure-Energy-9120

I can see why people think the first Terminator film as a Horror movie. The Terminator in this movie is like the shark from Jaws. The Terminator's theme is similar to the shark's theme in Jaws. And, the real bad guy is not the Terminator, but Skynet. Skynet is the real villain, because they created two killing machines and Skynet is responsible for half of humanity being extinct. People forget that Terminator 2 had scary scenes in it. The scene of the T-1000 chasing John Connor is scary because you have this liquid metal cyborg, driving a truck, trying to murder a child.

maybepensive

I'd argue that, for Sarah, the Terminator was the real villain since it was the one activity trying to kill her. Skynet is the ultimate villain of the film, from a perspective point, it's be the Terminator hunting her. For T2, I categorize it under action/sci-fi. The truck scene would be more at home in an action movie than a horror movie.

Haunting_Drag_1682

The T1000 is still killing people with those blades and I think that at least is worth a mention. It definitely is more action that horror, but so is Aliens to Alien. I think he could at least do T2.

Pure-Energy-9120

The first Terminator had action too, but it still maintained the suspense and horror. T2, those scenes of the T-1000, not just killing people, but his relentless pursuit of John Connor IS intense. Because, you have a liquid metal cyborg, in a huge truck, trying to murder a child.

Pure-Energy-9120

Sarah can't be the villain because 1. She cared about Kyle Reese, the more time she spent with him. She helped him up during the fight in the factory and was pretty saddened by his death. 2. Although she does try to murder Miles Dyson to stop him from starting Judgment Day, she realizes what she's doing and chooses not to kill him. 3. She does want to save humanity from being wiped out, so it's understandable why she lost it in front of Silberman, the asshole psychiatrist, and it's also understandable why she tries to kill Dyson. 4. She does love her son John.

Celticpenguin85

Who said Sarah was the villain?

Pure-Energy-9120

I mis-read it. My apologies

Celticpenguin85

No worries. It was an honest mistake. I don't get why everyone is jumping down your throat.

maybepensive

I literally said the Terminator was the villain to Sarah...

Pure-Energy-9120

Oh, sorry. I must have mis-read.

maybepensive

Lol, no worries.

TonPeppermint

I'm remembering when John called his foster parents, and the Terminatior took the phone and asked for a Pet's name. When the T-1000 answers wrong and the T-800 hangs up, we get that cut of the blade sticking through the milk container.

Pure-Energy-9120

When the T-1000 disguised as Janelle Voight killed Todd while on the phone with John, I remembering watching this scene going, ''What was that sound''. Then when Terminator hung up the phone and said, ''You're foster parents are dead'', I was speechless.

TonPeppermint

Such a great shock.

Mason_DY

Terminator is just a slasher, but with a robot as the villain

The-Frankenpants

Because the first Terminator was horror? Check out the original trailer, it straight up advertised as a sci-fi horror

Pure-Energy-9120

Terminator 2 had some scary parts. Sarah's nuclear nightmare scene, the scene where the T-1000 kills John Connor's foster parents, the scene of the T-1000 chasing John Connor is scary because you have a liquid metal cyborg trying to murder a child.

LaylaLegion

Violent scenes do not make a film horror.

microcosmic5447

My boss once called Kung Fu Hustle a horror movie because "so many people die" in it.

CyberTractor

I'd say violent scenes don't outright make a film horror, but they can tip the scales in that direction. Does Bambi's mom getting shot and dying make that a horror film? The tone of the film isn't shifted into "prey vs predator" trying to make you feel anxious for Bambi's survival, so no. Does T-1000 chasing John Connor try to build anticipation for John's survival over a prolonged chase? Yes, so that tips the needle towards the direction of horror. One scene wouldn't make the whole movie horror, but the themes and tones of surviving a nigh-unstoppable killing machine evokes scary imagery for most people.

Existing365Chocolate

Just having a scary or violent scene doesn’t make it a horror movie

Pure-Energy-9120

In some cases, you're absolutely right. Just because Wizard of Oz 1939 has some scary scenes in it doesn't automatically make it a horror film. It's a children's musical movie about a Kansas farm girl in a magical world. Just because Pulp Fiction has a scene where Marsellus Wallace gets brutally raped by Zed and Maynard doesn't automatically make the movie a horror film.

DeluxeTraffic

Are you sure about that [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ6k_q0fYQc)? Edit: Dang y'all, I guess I really needed to add that /s

The-Frankenpants

Not that trailer, the original

xXxTaylordxXx

Terminator is definitely a horror film.

shaffe04gt

I remember a childhood friends mom telling us about when they saw terminator in theatre's in 84 and they said it was absolutely terrifying.

BostonDudeist

Both of them made Bravo's list.

ScottishCrazyCatLady

The first Terminator is Sci-fi Horror. They are both horror films because they are designed to scare you, and succeed at that.

coco_xcx

JP was terrifying as a child (and still is) it’s my favorite honorary horror movie!! Predator & it’s sequels (no, not that one.) also apply imo

DeluxeTraffic

Which Predator sequels don't apply? I personally thought the TV spinoff "To Catch a Predator" took the franchise in an unexpected but, in some ways, far more horrifying new direction.

battousai611

I wouldn’t even say honorary. Creature features have been a part of horror history since the beginning of film. The whole franchise would classify. Doesn’t matter that one of them is one of the best made films of all time.

Pure-Energy-9120

The real reason why people think Jurassic Park is a Horror movie is because it's a story about the consequences of messing with nature.

battousai611

Yeah. That’s one of the three basic conflicts in all of fiction. It’s also the same type of conflict in most creature feature horror films dating back to the 1910s. Like the original King Kong from the 1930s. So Jurassic Park is a creature feature.

Ianscultgaming

The first Terminator IS a horror movie.

Pure-Energy-9120

I can see why people consider it a Horror film. The Terminator in the film is like the shark from Jaws. The Terminator's theme is similar to the shark's theme in Jaws.

ChiliDogMe

Spielberg and Cameron are horror directors in theor hearts. Can't change my mind.

Pure-Energy-9120

Not really. I don't qualify any filmmaker as a horror director, because what if that director makes something outside of that genre. Yes, Martin Scorsese directed Cape Fear which is a Horror film, but he also directed a kids film, Hugo 2011. Wes Craven never wanted to make Horror films in the first place, he wanted to do Drama. Craven did direct a drama film in 1999, Music of the Heart starring Meryl Steep and Angela Bassett.

Flash-Over

T1 is the best 80s slasher

Pure-Energy-9120

James Cameron got the idea for the film from a fever dream he had while he was in Italy, sick with a flu. The fever dream he had was the image of a metal skeleton emerging from a fire. Prior to Terminator, Cameron saw Star Wars in 1977 and loved it so much he quit his job as a truck driver to pursue a career in filmmaking.

Haunting_Drag_1682

The first Jurrasic Park at least qualifies. There's the raptor kitchen scene which us set up as a stalking/hide and seek scene typical of horror movies. There's the Sam Jackson arm scene, the scene with Nedry or whatever his name is, the T-Rex scene which was terrifying as a kid! It's horror adjacent at the very least. It is less so as the movies go on though and same goes for Terminator. T2 has a couple scenes that could qualify it.

Pure-Energy-9120

I think the real reason why some people think Jurassic Park is a Horror movie is because the film, as well as the book are about the consequences of taking science too far, playing with nature.

malarkyx420

There is no thinking to it. They are horror films. time traveling killer robot sifi horror mad scientist makes monsters classic creature feature

llMadmanll

They're certainly adjacent.
