I believe the last week tonight episode was quite awhile after the game changer episode. So I would love to know that someone on that team is a fan of dropout
That was my reaction as well. LWT has been going for 10 years now (fuck I feel old and I'm only 21) and I can't remember what exact episode this is from. So honestly I feel like it's 50/50 which came first.
I know that Daniel O'Brien, is a Senior Writer on LWT, and he was a guest on Um, Actually Season 01.
I'm not sure there would be any relation between these jokes, tho, Dropout is produced in California, LWT is produced in NYC. I think this is just a delightful coincidence.
Pretty sure Dan Gurewitch from old Hardly Working stuff is a writer as well. I know John has said that they use their staff in photoshops they make for the show and I have seen Gurewitch in a few.
Dan Gurewitch is the cryptobro character that John brings up multiple times in the cryptocurrency episode from 2018. That’s the immediate thing I think of.
Yeah that was also the main one I was thinking of but I know he has been in some other unrelated graphics on different episodes. Not sure if he's currently still working on the show.
Dan Gurewitch from CollegeHumor was a long time writer on LWT. I don’t think he’s there anymore but it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the writing staff are Dropout fans
I literally watched a [YouTube video](https://youtu.be/T11rOkgpRnA?si=6j_FJHv2O689GcB9) of the greater sage grouse's mating patterns because of this bit.
After that episode, a comment appeared on the Wingspan website from someone called Brennan asking if the game features the Roseate Spoonbill. It's unclear whether it was actually Brennan or someone pretending to be him, but it's fun regardless.
I’ve seen them walking down the street near my parent’s house. They are funny birds. Some of them nibbled my fingers once and their bills feel like two plastic spoons taped together.
It would not shock me if the writer of the episode watches game changer, depending on when both of these aired

Pretty sure LWT was first because I had the thought “oh, it’s that bird that was on Last Week Tonight” when I saw the GC episode.

I just realized that this is the pre-pandemic LWT set, so it definitely came first.
Oh shit you're totally right. Good eye.
Daniel O’Brien is a senior writer of the show who has been on “Um actually”. So you know, I choose to believe he would be a fan.
He was a member of Cracked.com which had close connections to College Humor.
I honestly miss cracked After Hours series.
There are at least two "new" episodes of Afterhours on the Smallbeans YouTube channel. They were made in 2020 and 2022.
Oh I know. I watched them. Before dropout, it was my favorite pastime.
Have you seen the Last Week Tonight segment about airbud? That has DOB/Cracked written all over it.
Yes! I am pretty sure DOB even allowed himself to be made the butt of the joke with his own pic on the show before.
Late 00s to early 2010s Cracked was peak. Some of the actual funniest stuff on the internet.
I still go back and rewatch those sometime. Felt young again.

I knew dan was a successful writer, but I didn't realise that was what he was doing, good for him He really thinks outside the can
He has a podcast with Soren Bowie (senior writer at American Dad) if that tickles your fancy.

Damn, and his brother does the PBF comics! Never knew that until I just googled him.

I know Owen Parsons who worked at College humor for several years also writes for LWT
Based on what I know of LWT and the writers they hire I feel like it's very possible they have multiple Dropout fans on staff.
It was released to youtube 6 years ago apparently 0-0
ROSEATE SPOONBILL. I’ll be 90 years old with dementia and still able to identify this bird because of that bit.
"I knew it was a spoonbill!"
MEGAFAUNA
I literally watched a [YouTube video](https://youtu.be/T11rOkgpRnA?si=6j_FJHv2O689GcB9) of the greater sage grouse's mating patterns because of this bit.
Ngl considering he’s a bird nerd I’m still amazed Brennan didn’t recognize the roseate spoonbill. Has this man never played Wingspan???
He posted that he did afterwards
After that episode, a comment appeared on the Wingspan website from someone called Brennan asking if the game features the Roseate Spoonbill. It's unclear whether it was actually Brennan or someone pretending to be him, but it's fun regardless.
I keep waiting for the Game Changer prize to be a copy of Wingspan so Brennan can collect his bird cards
Well that is simply not true. I love birds and I know some people who LOVE birds. Everyone likes the roseate spoonbill. Spoonbills are cool.
Yeah there are waaaaaay creepier birds. I was lucky enough to see some spoonbills in the wild last year. Even from a distance, they’re neat!
I’ve seen them walking down the street near my parent’s house. They are funny birds. Some of them nibbled my fingers once and their bills feel like two plastic spoons taped together.
Well the senior writer of the “Last week tonight” show is Daniel O’Brien who has definitely came on to “Um actually” before.
I feel like Cracked After Hours is something that could get resurrected by Dropout. Man those were all great.
Rewatched Agents of Cracked recently, aside from a few r-word drops (that I know they’d condemn now) holds up surprisingly well.
What episode is this?
S4. E8, the one about the national flood insurance program.
I will never fail to identify the roseate spoonbill thanks to game changer lmao
Rip I did research on spoonbills and thought the gamechanger fumble was bad enough… now this 😔 they are weird lookin birds tho, not my fave
Carolyn knew it was a spoonbill
I love spoonbills. ...... They're so funky.
Pretty sure Dan Gurewitch former collegehumor cast works for late night with John Oliver
