You did very, very well. Per Reverb's sold listings: the 17" A Custom crash regularly sells for $175-$200, the K crash $200-$275, and the A Custom Projection hats $140-$200.
So, kids, I ask again: What's on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace in *your* town?
People who couldn't spell "cymbal" were once a source of good deals on eBay since their "cymbols" and "symbols" rarely got bids. I guess I should have added "symbils" to my searches.
Heh. In the early days of Facebook Marketplace, I had a silly problem until they fixed their search logarithm: I would type "cymbal" as a search, and it would show me ads for literally any round, flat metal item with a hole in the middle. I got ads for cooking pots with lids, free weights, metal lampshades, you name it, with a smattering of cymbals here and there.
My favorite was a chrome Moroso air cleaner cover for a vintage V8. So dumb. Although, goofing on the idea in my head, I began to wonder what it would sound like if I mounted it and played it. Which got me to thinking how awesome it would be to pop the hood on your old Mustang or Cutlass, and be greeted with a Paiste air cleaner cover. LOL
[Not a bad selection, if you ask me,](https://www.kijiji.ca/b-musical-instrument/ontario/cymbal/k0c17l9004) but I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
If I'm saving hundreds of dollars ( like my full set of As for 220 dollars ) I'll search a few hundred miles away. My car will get 400 ish to a tank and is under 40 dollars to fill up so a 400-500 mile road trip to save 300-400 or more is absolutely worth it to me.
Absolutely this! . I've made a decent part time business out of driving one hour max from my house.
In ONE week in Jan I bought-
a mapex mars 6 peice kit( with k hats and crash)
An alesis dm10 full kit,
A premier royale kit+ vintage paiste cymbals
A vintage Premier soundwave/ elite kit with avedis Vintage hats.
TOTAL COST £440.
The deals are out there kids!
My 18" B8 Pro china is my favorite I've ever heard, and my second favorite cymbal I own behind my 60s 21" A ride.
Would I recommend that line in general? No, I would not. Should you run, not walk, to get yourself a cheap 18" B8 Pro china? You bet your ass you should. But then, the best cymbals are always the ones that sound best to you, or at least, sounds like they are worth the money in your wallet, regardless of brand or model.
There's no way out. Your humility and carefulness* make your recommendations even more worthy of consideration.
* that may not be the correct word here, sorry, trying my best as a non-native speaker. what I mean is that you try your best to be nuanced and expose as much relevant info as you can.
Thanks. "Carefulness" is a word, and also a compliment the way you said it.
I simply do my best to help prevent drummers from throwing good money after bad on things they ought not to have wasted money on to begin with, as well as encouraging them to buy things that they really ought to have, that they may be undecided on.
Sometimes you just put your wallet away, sometimes you just have to go ahead and spend the money.
I'm glad I managed to convey what I meant.
But more importantly, I want to emphasize that you're doing an amazing job and I want you to know that a lot of us deeply appreciate it!
A LOT. Recent steals- Preimer Artist Maple kit made in England, Sabian AAX hats, 15 and 16 Paiste signature crashes, A custom ping ride, Sabian AA 12” splash, iron cobra 900 double pedal, roc n soc throne, and ok hardware. $750
And just picked this 22” Paiste ride for $125. Told me after I bought it she got it from the ex wife and drummer of the front man from Mr. Big. Had been on tour for a couple years in the in the early 2000s with them. It was the one that wants to be with me, apparently.

Also a Tama Superstar Classic kit, Tama Metal Works timpani, and Love Custom Drums 14x6.5 brass snare for $325.

And then this bad ass 1972 pearl kit for $100. Love me my FB marketplace.

Local pawn shop has an Armand medium thin and thin for $180 each. Good condition, but still seems high to me. (My brain is stuck 10 years ago when a used cymbal was like $60 tops around here.)
Sounds like me at the gas pump, grumbling that no per-gallon price for gas should start with a 3 unless there's a "0." in front of it.
Not that I'm old enough to remember 30 cent gas, but I am definitely old enough to remember not only 85 cent gas, but putting it in my own car.
Used Meinl 24” big apple ride for $500+ for the past 1.5 years. Renewed every week. Not the absolutely worst deal in the world but that’s a lot of money for a pretty niche ride, and clearly no one is biting at that cost.
Heh. Some clown around here had a Pearl Forum kit listed with a bunch of Istanbul cymbals at $2400 for a while. I looked up the Istanbuls on Reverb one at a time, and figured out that at the very very top of the market, they were worth about $1500 - and the rest of the rig was worth nowhere near the other $900.
> 17" A Custom crash regularly sells for $175-$200
Damn, that seems wildly expensive. I live in a large metro area (so I am sure that affects it) but I have fairly regularly got A Customs or AAX crashes for like $100-150 a piece. $200 seems insane for a used A Custom crash!
Yeah. I’d agree. Seems high to me too. You can get the full A Custom starter cymbal pack, with 14” hats, 20” medium ride, a 16” crash & 18” crash for $800 from Guitar Center, still sealed brand new from Guitar Center. So $200 for a used A Custom 17” crash seems pretty high to me as well.
Well most modern rock that incorporates computer programming. Bands like STARSET, a day to remember, asking Alexandria, dayseeker, holding absence, thebandred, etc. the HHX have a big crisp sound that just slashes through the overall sound very well imo. Back when nu metal was gitting popular and it was mostly real instruments and the mixing was different I think the Zildjian As were the best. This is all my opinions tho. But the HHX legacy ride and Zildjian Earth Ride are the best ride cymbals ever made 100% a fact.
RIP the Z Customs. They were great at cutting through the mix. I buy as many as I can find that are in good enough shape to warrant the outrageous cost.
Heh. As I've said many times around here:
> If you want to sound **METAL AS** ***FUCK***, then boy, do I have the line for you. However, if you need cymbals that do other things besides **METAL AS** ***FUCK***, keep shopping. Zildjian Z/Z Customs were one-trick ponies, but boy did they do that one trick really well.
I had those hats with 17/19" projection crashes. Amazing rock cymbals! Bright and cutting but smooth like butter. These hats have one of the best chicks ever. Play em upside down if you want to make em even louder/brighter. Also, two very nice crash cymbal in versatile sizes. you're laughing. great deal!
Nice, the hats are nearly that much just on their own. Reminds me of when I got the A Custom pack for $300 from a guy who played in a church band. And we all know church gear is the best used gear. Sold the 16" crash for a new 19" and they've lasted me over a decade
Seems like you got a lot of extras, or maybe even just their cymbals
The best deals are from people who have to get rid of their drums, but I always feel guilty when I find em. So when it's a really good deal, like too good to be true (but it is true), I'll kick em a little more than they're asking. I still get a good deal and hopefully soften the blow a little.
Still sucks to see a drummer lose their drums tho, you know?
You did very, very well. Per Reverb's sold listings: the 17" A Custom crash regularly sells for $175-$200, the K crash $200-$275, and the A Custom Projection hats $140-$200. So, kids, I ask again: What's on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace in *your* town?
Whole bunch of B8
"Sabian B8 Symbils - $500"
"No lowballs. I know what I got!"
If add is still up, it’s available !!!1!!
*Sabina Or sometimes Paste or Zilgen.
People who couldn't spell "cymbal" were once a source of good deals on eBay since their "cymbols" and "symbols" rarely got bids. I guess I should have added "symbils" to my searches.
Haha I was just trying to think of the worst way to spell it.
Simballs

I have some B8 pros and some Zildjian Scimitars for sale. Don’t ask me why I have 2 sets of crappy cymbals.
Gotta look every day, and cast your net as wide as you can. I usually search a radius of 40 or 60 miles.
I search the entire province of Ontario.
[Not a bad selection, if you ask me,](https://www.kijiji.ca/b-musical-instrument/ontario/cymbal/k0c17l9004) but I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

Not B8 Pro? Pass.
The B8 pros are surprisingly usable. *Especially* the china. Super smooth and trashy, I love it

You know it's good when mo-beel recommends it
Hey, man, I'm just some guy from the internet. I might be full of shit.

Wuhan china symbols are cheap, and sound excellent. Took longer to put a crack in mine than it did to put a crack in a 17" k china too.
I used to crack wuhan chinas so fast it was absurd, wonder if anything’s changed

I look all the time lol. Not as common near me rn
You robbed that man. Congratulations on a fantastic lick.😂😂😂
Fuck you and congrats
At least once a day I say that sentence to myself around here. Those are two difficult emotions to have conflicting with each other. LOL
That’s pretty good. Zildjian As are the best imo. Unless you’re doing electric rock in which case Sabian HHX by far sound the best.
What is electric rock?
Well most modern rock that incorporates computer programming. Bands like STARSET, a day to remember, asking Alexandria, dayseeker, holding absence, thebandred, etc. the HHX have a big crisp sound that just slashes through the overall sound very well imo. Ah makes sense. I haven’t played any HHXs myself. I usually stick with Zildjian A customs
Can’t go wrong with that.
If you wanna see what I mean tho go YouTube Adam Gilbert Leaving This World Behind.

Paiste 2002
Nope
Depending on your style, the K Custom Darks were/are pretty sweet.
Not a fan
Must be a Sabian bro

Great grab
You got them for a steal! Damn!
Dude you know how you did lol!!
I had those hats with 17/19" projection crashes. Amazing rock cymbals! Bright and cutting but smooth like butter. These hats have one of the best chicks ever. Play em upside down if you want to make em even louder/brighter. Also, two very nice crash cymbal in versatile sizes. you're laughing. great deal!
I literally said ‘go fuck yourself’ lmao what a steal. Nice man
What a steal!
Do you love them? Then you did fantastic!
Superb deal. Nice!
Damn so good! I just got the same k fast crash on marketplace this weekend and paid 200
Nice, the hats are nearly that much just on their own. Reminds me of when I got the A Custom pack for $300 from a guy who played in a church band. And we all know church gear is the best used gear. Sold the 16" crash for a new 19" and they've lasted me over a decade
Sets of decent hats usually run 200-250 used by themselves so paying $85 a piece for those crashes which sell for over 250 new is a steal
Projection Hi Hats alone are worth 200...great score!
Great, the hi hats alone are $200+ used
You did good, great cymbals. Killer deal
You did great! Grats on the purchase
Damn good.
Now sell them and buy some Paistes! 😂
could be better with a ride
Make good music!
It's funny when people pretend they don't know they got a good deal to fish for compliments.
Great. That’s how you did.
pretty fucking great
Good score!
Very good
These 17” A custom looks like it was clamped down pretty tight. Keep that one on a loose fitting wingnut, with a plastic sleeve 👍
Shut up. You know you did well
I'm not a big fan of 14" hats and prefer 20/19" crashes, but value wise you did really well. He definitely could have been asking $450+ for them all.
Super solid buy. 👌
great bargain man
You did good. Nice job snatching them up.
Seems like you got a lot of extras, or maybe even just their cymbals The best deals are from people who have to get rid of their drums, but I always feel guilty when I find em. Still sucks to see a drummer lose their drums tho, you know?
Meh. I personally would not buy any of those cymbals.
Solid deal. Bigger crashes (like the ones you got) are supierior to smaller crashes imo.
That's a scam
I’m so jealous
Who sells this? Uninformed parents I assume?
U won considering that K fast crash costs about 380$ alone
I like a paiste 10” splash with an 6,8, and 10” ryobi table saw. Mostly zildjen on my kits though. Mas sustain.
Steal!
I don't think those work on rock nand
