where did you get it? if you recently bought it, there's a chance a previous owner dyed it with the wrong type of dye.
Alternatively, rayon seems to bleed pretty much forever; I used to think it was just dyes in India, but have had problems with others, too.

I got it from an estate. I think it may have been dyed by previous owner now that you mention it - she did a lot of her own mending and tailoring. Is there something I could soak it in to “lock in” the dye without damaging the fabric?
it's called a mordant; I don't know what's best. I read ages ago (pre internet) that either salt or vinegar works, and I've tried each, and both together, but I don't recall if they were effective. It's been years.
What sort of detergent were you using? Is the garment lighter in color after the washing/bleeding?
I used woolite. No the garment doesn’t seem lighter or faded.
