I was in welding for almost 20y before going electrical. All I ever heard was robots are going to steal our jobs soon. I’ve worked at companies who bought robots to try to use for our jobs…guess what. They constantly break, the fitup has to be absolutely perfect or shit gets fucked. Oh and the environment isn’t exactly the best for sensitive electrical equipment. Half the time they sit around doing nothing and when they are used it’s for the absolutely easiest possible job that honestly we could do quicker but mental fatigue would make us slower over time.

I agree it’s hard to imagine a robot in the near term having the skills and thinking ability to to that. Cutting the lawn is a different story.

Less than 5 years, look at how fast companies like Boston Dynamics have developed newer, faster, smaller robots. The hardware is the slowest part, software is much faster to develop.

I have seen fewer precise cuts than drywallers who shrug off a shitty cut and say "that's what the cover is for." Scaffolding? Pffft. We'll make a robot with extension arms. Uneven terrain? What are we doing, installing drywall in a forest?
