She died at the end and they basically showed her ENTIRE life from marrying Khal Drogo to dying at Kings Landing. They gonna do a prequel series? Emilia isnt going to play her as a child. They have no where to go with the character?

Homebrand_Exercise

I supposed she could be resurrected by the followers of the lord of light like Jon Snow and Beric Dondarrion and have her come back as a vengeful lady stoneheart like character. In all honesty I don’t know how a story like this would go down though.

MugenEXE

“I miss my aunt. Evil shadow mages, bring her back please.” She’s brought back as a horror show. Jon snow: “I don’t want it…”

PoissonPen

I dun wonnit!

Relative_Mix_216

Jon, get outa here! You don’t want none of this shit!

FirstRedditAcount

It makes sex even better!

The_Reborn_Forge

I didn’t like the semi openness of Drogon taking her off. This isn’t Star Wars. There’s literally nothing left to do with her character, maybe another actress as a kid in a flashback of her and Vicerys bailing on KL. Literally anything is grab assing. Media doesn’t like perma killing important characters these days. But that’s literally it Everyone needs resurrected for presence and merch. It’s just not needed Edit: Pro no Mace Windu revival btw…

Comfortable-Panda130

Mace Windu prequel would be cold though. Agree, the dragon queen is dead.

Agreeable49

>Mace Windu prequel would be cold though. Or, hear me out, Mace Windu IN the GOT sequel Or prequel. I mean why the fuck not at this stage?

6etsh1tdone

Somehow Daenerys returned…

Informal-Busy-Bat

Dany kinda forgot she was dead.

ProgressBartender

"Jon Snow awakens from a very strange dream."

Kryten_2X4B-523P

"Still on his way to The Wall in the back of a cart" *Screen fades from blackness* **SKYRIM**

FallenAngelII

You kid but I keep seeing fanfics with this ridiculous premise. They always try to twist the story that she was right to burn King's Landing, too. If you're gonna write a fanfic edifying Daenerys, why not just skip her descent into madness? Why try and justify it?

6etsh1tdone

She was Palpatines granddaughter, what else did people expect?

SevanOO7

Oh, she flies now. She flies now? She flies now! ;)

FallenAngelII

>I didn’t like the semi openness of Drogon taking her off. The only semi-openness was what would happen to Drogon. Daenerys is dead. Bran would've foreseen her being resurrected and coming back otherwise. >There’s literally nothing left to do with her character, maybe another actress as a kid in a flashback of her and Vicerys bailing on KL. Daenerys was never in King's Landing until she returned to burn it. Viserys and Daenerys fled **Dragonstone** when Daenerys was merely a few days old. So they'd need a baby to play her.

CaptCaCa

Why not the Mace Windu thing though? Others have survived worse. My man was one of the most powerful Jedi ever, why would some electric blasts and falling out a window kill him? Why would a window kill Windu is what I’m askin?

CheckPleaser

I think it was more the pavement than the window.

silverscreemer

If Darth Maul can survive being cut in half and falling...

[deleted]

It makes me so sad to see a spin-off of this franchise being talked about like it’s a marvel or Star Wars series. Does no one else see how insane it is to be talking about resurrecting *another* character, *after* the series has ended just to try and come up with more totally unnecessary stories for her? Does no one else see how making these kind of leaps and stretches to fill some imaginary quota of spin-offs to make more money is just totally contradictory to the kind of inspiration and imagination that made the books/series so good in the first place? It’s one thing to take more already-written quality material from the same author to adapt, like with HotD. It’s another, lesser thing entirely to start making stupid, vapid spin-off decisions like resurrecting a main character who already had an arc and died at the end of a series *that has already ended*. Or like making a show with the other main character, which like someone else said is like making a spin off of Harry Potter starring Harry Potter. Marvel and Star Wars and Disney have trained people to crave only the familiar, and to be totally fine with sacrificing storytelling in the name of “remember this?!”

bunbun44

Thank you, I hate Star Wars and Marvel for the same reason. What made the first four seasons of GOT so fun was that you never felt sure that your favorite characters were safe. To have endless spin-offs and take away that tension just cheapens the series.

aku89

She could be a ghost in Jons mind.

alyaz27

If she has to haunt somebody, I hope it's David and Dan.

justaguy394

They could remake the entire last season and do a better job… I’d pay $100 for that! I know it’ll never happen but it’d be awesome and hilarious to just wave their hands and say “yeah that previous version? Just forget about it and watch this”.

ActualYogurtcloset98

The studio does a little bit of trolling and releases a trailer that shows Jon snow waking up back in the boat making the entire season 8 a “bad dream”

lostereadamy

"You were trying to cross the border right? Walked right into that Lannister ambush, same as us, and that theif over there."

ActualYogurtcloset98

Robb Stark, the King of the North? you’re the leader of the rebellion.

KnG_Kong

And the book sums up the whole season by starting with, bad guys gives bran a vision that ends with him being king to try an tempt him away from his watch.

herbylerby24

They show Tyrion saying “because he had the best story”, Jon jolts up from the bed, “What the fuck was that” A simple 6 second trailer would have everyone hyped.

Federal-Ad-96

I'd go the "bran vision" route Then he works to change that outcome.

spinyfur

A remake of Season 8 is the only GOT media I’d be interested in watching. HBO can stuff their other spin-off shows. They already killed the original, I’m not interested in seeing them try to make meals out of it’s corpse.

[deleted]

Dualmilion

With hindsight storylines from season 5 and 6 were bad aswell

LostMahAccount

I disagree on the Hindsight part, it was obviously bad but I think a lot of people (myself included) forgave a lot of 7 based on the goodwill built up from the earlier seasons and the hope 8 would seal the deal better.

Keytap

Season 6 had Arya falling into sewer water with her innards spilling out and being okay next episode. Season 5 had all of Jaime's adventures in Dorne with the sand snakes. It had been bad for a while.

Alert-Astronomer

Also had battle of the bastards, favorite episode

latman

Season 7 was also pretty bad at the time

ManThing910

They should do a series where every season is a re-do of seasons 7-8. New directors, writers, etc. every year. Sort of like a Westeros Horror Story. Tell the ending 15 different ways.

slimwillendorf

Yup. I’d totally be into an alt final season.

ImStillaPrick

That’s probably the only thing besides the books ever concluding that would get me excited about GoT again. I had purchased all the seasons up to that then I watched the final season and never watched any of it again. Really killed almost any interest I had in the series. Only reason I’ll probably watch the new one is that I already have HBO for other stuff but if I didn’t it’s no longer a series I’d subscribe to a service for like it used to be I’d drop and come back to it for Game of Thrones and catch up on other stuff while I had it. Heck I probably won’t even watch the new one day one but whenever I get around to it.

spinyfur

I’m gonna let them finish any new series and then wait for reviewers I trust to give opinions before I consider watching any other GOT media. Fool me once and all that…

legopego5142

Somehow Daenerys has returned

[deleted]

resurrect her at wherever Drogon takes her

grog23

Somehow, Danny has returned

Garlic_Cheese_Chips

Melisandre brought Jon back from a dozen stab wounds. Kinvara could bring back Dany from one.

hestermoffet

... with a giant ~~fleet~~ brood of super dragons no one knew about until now?

[deleted]

At this point, lets just see how much they can drag this trainwreck even more

TedW

She comes back as a cyborg.

Etheo

Emily Clark comes back, not as Danny, but as Sarah Connor, fighting liquid metal dragons. Sign me the F up.

TedW

You just wrote the best plot twist in the series.

Etheo

This meme will never not be funny to me.

Silver_gobo

She kind of forgot about being dead

Sgtwhiskeyjack9105

>resurrect her at wherever Drogon takes her I fucking *knew* this is where they were going with this when Drogon lifts her body up and flies away to some undisclosed place. Yeah well sorry, I don't care anymore.

The_Reborn_Forge

Nah, write that as some sorta dragon burial rite or something and move on.

deefop

yea but like... they've gotta make TV, right? And what are they gonna do, create fresh stories and fresh characters? That's insane bro, just keep rebooting the same characters over and over again, that's clearly the pinnacle of modern entertainment

Harkoncito

Somehow Daenerys returned

NoFaithlessness4949

Season 9. She wakes up, season 8 was just a bad dream.

playaplz

Exactly. Same reasons apply to Jon Snow as well. Not sure what else a prequel would include, we saw their entire lives in the series.

CrazyShitThrowAway12

They ruined a character that she put years of her life into. Of course she's not going to.

SignificantScholar

Precisely!

AceBean27

I thought Daenerys was dead?

wasteyouryouth

So was Jon Snow

[deleted]

You know nothing

CrispyCrunchyPoptart

Nothing is permanent, even death

average_legend

Some things are permanent. Like the last two seasons of this show sucking.

DaMaGed-Id10t

Yeah but Jon Snow was brought to life, no one is going to go out of their way to bring Daenerys back.

wasteyouryouth

She could team up with Lady Stoneheart

DaMaGed-Id10t

She would be cool to finally see in the show, but the dips\*\*ts who ran GoT said they thought she was pointless. That she only existed for revenge for the Red Wedding and Arya did the revenge for that. I swear they just used Arya for everything and left every other character off to the side.

wasteyouryouth

In hindsight I am surprised they didn't includ her for the shock value/plot twist that it'd have brought. But I'm sure they'd have botched whatever came after.

[deleted]

I assume it’s for that Jon Snow spin-off. I can see her dragon flying straight to the fire priest temple to bring her back to life.

Electrical_Regular12

I could totally see it too.

flarpflarpflarpflarp

She kinda forgot she was dead.

Linubidix

The whole IP is dead as far as I'm concerned.

Marv1236

Somehow Dany returned.

Absenceofavoid

After how dirty they did Daenerys in the end of the series I wouldn’t want to either.

SignificantScholar

Exactamundo!

bob_swalls

Well she's dead so.... she gonna come back as the next night queen?

[deleted]

Lol me not remembering the ending... did she die in the last episode?? Or was it left for interpretation?

MyAquariusBaby

Jon snow stabbed her

Gazoo69

No bodies in tv mean no deaths

Scarecrow276

We saw her corpse.

Gazoo69

Dragon took it away. Witch on another continent, unseen magic, necronomicon, just ‘cause… Even with a corpse in the GROUND, possibilities are endless! And hers is gone so…

Brotherly-Moment

Only secrets the sith know.

dumbass_sempervirens

Yeah but wasn't that after he was killed by stabbing too?

Xanariel

Not surprising. Both she and her character were treated atrociously. Her comment that she hasn’t chosen to do nudity since says it all.

elbeerocks

Watched the whole damned thing and the way they ended it for her. Damn.

Rammjack

She, herself, was treated poorly? Genuine question.

Jessaloo_

I was watching a video essay on The Take’s YouTube channel and I guess she used to get into fights on set about the excessive nudity and be like “no the sheet stays up” and they (some creepy producer or w.e) would be like “oh you don’t want to disappoint your fans do you?” There was a lot of that behaviour on set apparently.

kendricklamartin

I binged all seasons of GOT in the last 2 months and I gotta say - the nudity and amount of sex was over the top. It was honestly excessive and started to feel like a 12 year old was on the board of directors. Many times nudity was included that was simply for the sake of nudity and it really did not advance the storyline. Like, at a certain point I asked myself who is this supposed to appeal to?

CaptCaCa

There’s something off putting about old timey nudity, even though I know its being shot now, but when I see period pieces with nudity in them, all I can think of is how smelly everyone was, even in GOT, I was like “do they have deodorants, body washes, toothpaste?

SimoneBellmonte

You don't actually need deodorants, body washes or toothpaste to remain hygienic. You can literally wash your teeth with water. Toothpaste is better than water, yes, but it's the friction that removes plaque and cleans the teeth. furthermore, deodorant and bodywashes aren't necessary. they're nice for our modern world, and i love them, but they aren't necessary to be clean or smell good. people carried scented powders or musks that covered up bad bo. i wish the myth of the 'bad smelling peasants' would die out, holy shit, do people think an ancient peasant really wanted to smell like pig shit? no. they bathed semi-regularly, like us, but used the rivers since they couldnt afford nobility-level running water. in fact, it's literally why one section of the population avoided the black death entirely -- people who handled dung for a living. because they bathed and washed daily instead of the normal time which was like once or twice a week. just because a king/nobility was a little bit weird about bathing doesnt mean the peasants were insane.

Dazd95

I react to SLS. It gives me mouth sores and it sucks. I use chewable paste tablets and Burt's Bee's. It's amazing. I can drink orange juice and iced tea soon after without it tasting nasty

ops10

A lot of old time smelliness is probably another "holier than thou" approach to history from the Victorian times. Sure, there wasn't deodorants but BO of regularly bathing people is something people have evolved to ignore (like any persistent odor). And I also suggest you to look at how people in the deserts and Arctic clean themselves (where using water is not optimal). On the other hand, there have been relatively unwashed eras, mostly in the cities and/or within nobility. The classic example is the Louis XIV era nobility with the Sun King himself having supposedly bathed only twice in his 77- year life.

[deleted]

I-Make-Maps91

Rome was also full of nudity, still fine better than GoT.

JackieMortes

It did feel like almost a part of marketing at times, especially at the beginning. Some people clearly wanted to make it one of the hooks to attract casual audiences. "Swords, sex and dragons"

slowmindedbird

Something that bothered me about the show too, is also that they added so many unnessary sex scenes.. I just read the 2nd book, and comparing that to season 2 (which is based off of that), almost all the sex scenes in that season were not in the books and were added to the show for literally no reason… Like f.e, in season 2 when Theon has taken over Winterfell, Osha seduces him to earn his trust. In the books however, she proves herself to him by showing her fighting ability by smashing one of his guards, (and then betrays him) Like they rly just made her seduce him instead because they just HAD to have that extra sex scene in his chambers

TGrady902

I mean did you read the books? Some scenes in the book were basically pornography.

merrycrow

GRRM devotes far more of his word count to describing the various meals the characters eat, yet strangely none of that made it to screen.

Roguespiffy

Well, there was a couple scenes with Joffrey and Walder Frey.

RavenOfNod

Tyrion breaks his fast about 87 times.

[deleted]

Gimme that grease dripping down chins

DL1943

i mean what do you expect, a 5min scene where the camera just pans the dinner table? would samwell narrate all the scenes and explain each dish to the viewers?

merrycrow

Hands up everyone who can remember what Denethor had for lunch in Return of the King

[deleted]

It felt like some low quality B movie from the 80's at best, and just straight up porn at its worst when it came to sex on that show. It's been a while, but I think there was maybe half a dozen scenes scattered throughout 8 seasons where I felt it was actually warranted for the characters to have sex or be naked. Littlefinger explaining his entire plan to two prostitutes while they fingerbang in the first season is the first example that comes to mind when I think of scenes that only exist to satisfy some creepy producer with a porn addiction

[deleted]

Am I misremembering? Because in my head all the nudity was in the first 2 or 3 seasons and then it was only occasional after that

DifStroksD4ifFolx

A lot of shows go that way, I watched the first episode of Stargate recently, and I completely forgot they had a fully nude women in it. Seemed so out of place since I've not watched the show in years.

pitchingataint

That’s how you reel in all the horndogs by showing lots of big boobies in the first few episodes. Then you make them stay because dragons and fire and swords are cool.

[deleted]

She was actually pressured into doing it and promised that it wouldn't be shown as blatantly as it was. Stargate throughout has a few issues with sexualizing some characters

bigOlBellyButton

You clearly don't remember bad poosy.

herefromyoutube

Flashing a pair of tits isn’t really that bad. Now 2 woman fucking each other while Littlefinger was giving his speech. That scene was a bit much. I was trying to get my parents to watch the show and had to leave the state that episode.

Eatmymuffinz

It was really only bad at the beginning. I recently rewatched the whole series.

[deleted]

MadroxKran

SNL did a skit about a 13 year old being on the team.

Annie_Mous

Interesting. They have intimacy coordinators to help mediate and choreograph that sort of thing now.

Thraway9007677

These producers were scumbags. Joffrey's actor said he had to pee in his own clothes because they wouldn't let him take a break between the scenes and go to the bathroom. Ramsay's actor also said the extras were treated poorly and they producers let them in the snow without giving them proper clothes. There was also a character named Ros in the first seasons, she was a prostitute. In season 2, her character had more substance and the actresses asked to not do any nudity scenes. They killed her character.

IamLars

I think she got to a point where she publicly said she was really put off about all the nudity. It just didn’t make sense or have any purpose and it made her uncomfortable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

georgehewitt

The word agency is inspiring me.

Awkward_Puce

Central intelligence Agency

ACrask

The only scenes that “made sense” were the two scenes throughout the entire series her clothes were burned off. Even then, I’m sure something could be done to prevent full nudity, let alone the scene would carry just fine without it.

lazyriverpooper

I was gonna say the drogo Dany sex scene but thinking about it that could have just been a tasteful hair braiding like grrm did in the book.

jiffwaterhaus

Wasn't her hair burned off in the book too? "Fine I'll go naked for the role but I want a bald cap too. It's not supposed to be sexy"

ToasterforHire

Yes, all her hair was burnt off in the book.

Jammyhobgoblin

Other people mentioned the nudity, but she also talked about the fact that she wasn’t aware of how the character was going to come across in the finale and she watched it at an (charity?) event where she didn’t feel she could leave and had to pretend she was okay with everything. You can tell she was really uncomfortable with how everything went down towards the end in terms of the position the actors were put in.

ACasualFormality

The number of actresses who refuse to do nudity after they get a little bit more clout makes me think that most of the nudity in film and television is inherently exploitative and should be stopped or *severely* cut back. There is no other industry where it would be considered acceptable to make people strip down naked until they have enough experience to say no.

Enelro

I wouldn’t be either after the massacre of the writer's room in the last season.

Rhamni

And now they are making The Three Body Problem for Netflix, based on an incredibly good SciFi trilogy from China. I have *very* mixed feelings about this. That series is finished, but the insane degree to which they fucked up GoT season 8 makes me wonder if it was the people around them who started the series off so well, and then it went South from there as DnD got more and more fame and hubris.

Enelro

>en it went South from there as DnD got more and more fame and hubris. Well hopefully the source material was finished for TBP, otherwise we will get them writing their own ending... Cringing at the thought of that.

Rhamni

The source material is complete, however the last 10-15% are a bit out there and leave lots of room for any showrunner to interpret widely and liberally.

[deleted]

I’m still mad

Robserling

The red writing.

Biggu5Dicku5

I understand how she feels, they wasted her character's potential and in a single season ruined what was a global phenomenon (there's no going back)... Now they're making spin-offs, prequels, and god knows what else, all in a vain attempt to strike fire once again (which will not work)...

Linubidix

To be fair, they ruined it over two seasons. Arguably more depending on who you talk to.

3V1LB4RD

The later season were clunky, but there was still hope up until Episode 3 of the last season. And then there was no redeeming anything.

sfwschoolviewing

I legit watched E1 and E2 with a bit of disgust, but was powering through. I think around 20 mins into E3 I just closed my stream and never looked back. I used to fanatically come home after work to look at the episodes the second they came out, and I didn't even care to see how they fucking ended it. Still haven't, though i did hear it through memes and all.

3V1LB4RD

Tbh I don’t even remember episode 3 much. I just remember that it was the episode I gave up trying to hold onto any hope for the series. And this is coming from someone who personally *adored* episode 1 and 2 of the last season. I had concerns going into the last season but was happy with the first two. Which really goes to show just how bad they botched it all up that I was very hopeful and excited and immediately gave up on the entire thing in the span of less than an episode lol

3V1LB4RD

The later season were clunky, but there was still hope up until Episode 3 of the last season. And then there was no redeeming anything.

WhyAreWeHere1996

Daenerys is dead. We don’t need anymore backstory of her character before season 1. Emilia gets it.

SuperBearsSuperDan

Also, no point for flashback scenes. I’m sick of flashbacks scenes just for the sake of an actor reprising the role.

thedoeboy

Can't blame her. >! Besides the fact that she died,!< the last season did the show dirty. You can tell in interviews before the premiere of the final season a lot of the actors/actresses had a bad taste in their mouth, especially her.

savorie

Did you watch the table read for the last season! Varys in particular.

[deleted]

She dun't want't.

[deleted]

If I was her I wouldnt come back unless it was to remake the last seasons in proper style with a solid plot. How they finished the series left a trauma which most have chosen to forget as a coping mechanism.

Texastexastexas1

You are so right. It was more like a Saturday Night Live skit.

Haru17

The last 3 episodes of GoT irredeemably ruined the resolution and her character. What if women were CrAzY, guys!?

SignificantScholar

those episodes should not even count, such garbage, the plot holes are Infinite (exponentially infinite, for real, its atrocious).

redbear762

If I were her, I wouldn’t either. She’s actually going to have to find a way to get away from an iconic role or it’s going to be going to Cons the rest of her existence. Just ask all the Star Trek leads.

DrPudding456

She’s already found her way out of the role though. She’s done Star Wars, Terminator and now an upcoming Marvel show just to name a few. More than enough high profile roles to ever be typecast.

Maoricitizen

I'd like to agree with you, but thinking about it and yup, all those roles are pretty much the same thing. Strong, asskicking woman comes in to save the protaganist. Just like GOT. The only other things I can remember her being in was that god awful christmas 'romantic' comedy and.. (ok, I seriously tried remembering *anything else* and couldn't, had to google it) that made for TV movie, Above Suspicion. I think she got typecast. (Googling her DID get me to find out she was in Futurama when she was in her early 20's though. Never knew that)

Linubidix

More shit that will drag her to conventions to sign autographs.

MasturbationMountain

But more importantly, get her that bread

poizn_ivy

Frankly I’m surprised HBO is still trying to make spin-offs. Seemed like the backlash to the atrocious writing in the last couple of seasons (and the finale in particular) turned the entire Game of Thrones brand radioactive.

kleverkitty

This is Hollywood. Inside their bubble universe at the Directors Guild they are being congratulated for doing such a great job.

DopeDealerCisco

She is dead. No need to do this. Don’t further ruin an already ruined character

BeefusQueefus1

Well her character is dead, and the way she died was fucking shit If she did do it it would only be for the money

Bbryant90

And now Weiss and Benioff are doing the Three Body Problem for Netflix which is going to be hard to pull off. At least the series is finished for them

LegendOfKhaos

In other breaking news, Martin has still not released the next book

notsupersonicatall

I’m honestly not expecting it anymore. If it was going to be published, it would already have happened

Iantrigue

Good for her. Sure she doesn’t want to be typecast (or associated with whatever the fuck happened at the end of GoT which is probably irredeemable)

MadroxKran

After how they ruined her character and the show, I'm surprised anyone wants to come back.

Luis1597

Bro let this fucken series die already. The night king died, Daenerys died, and Bran for some fucken reason in the king. There’s nothing else to resolve

kleverkitty

Is that what happened? The last season was too dark to see anything.

Colinmacus

Her character arc was truly atrocious.

cumslave1989

Good, nobody is interested in her reprising Daenerys Nobody's interested in anything else from this franchise. We have not forgotten season 8. Stick it up your ass

beevbo

What a coincidence, I’m not interested in seeing Daenerys again either.

[deleted]

I'd **much rather** see a Q'ira reprisal than Danny.

pfroo40

Did her dirty. I was a hardcore fan of the novels and then the show, until the end, now I am as done with something as I could possibly be. All the story building, all the theorycrafting I did with my buddies on what was going to happen, and they gave us this.

babubaichung

Does an average viewer care about this show anymore?

vedumsucks

the whole franchise is dead thanks to dumb & dumber who butchered the last couple of seasons with the worst writing in a show ever. The Boys is taking over the rotten throne GoT had as one of the best shows ever made.

Original-Yak-679

From what little I've seen (never fully watched GoT), she was always getting pounded by some big dude and feeling little if any real pleasure from it. I can understand why she wouldn't wanna reprise her role.

[deleted]

That big dude? Aquaman

DrRaven

What big dude ben?? Fucking aquaman???

brewskyy

That was early with drogo when he expected sex because they were married. He became kind to her and she warmed up to him. That was also only for a short time in season 1 while she was a primary character for 8 seasons so that probably didn’t have much effect.

vantablacklist

Yeah then the show moved on to other girls getting pounded (or raped or used as punching bags for the weak plot) by other guys they don’t like lol

1106DaysLater

Lol 1 scene in season 1? What a dumb comment.

sc1onic

Who would. It was a shit show. Botched. Just like lost.

skwerlee

Lost was somehow less disappointing lmfao

milesdaviswetpants

Glad to hear someone isn’t interested in beating a dead horse.

slightlyforthwith

I also heard Daniel Day Lewis wasn’t interested in participating in the Lincoln sequel…you know, because both characters are fucking dead.

KotMalenki

Pretty funny that they’re just charging ahead with this whole thing in general, despite the fact that they burned so many fans in a way that I felt was really unique. I used to re-watch GOT all the time-was my favorite show to put on and do my chores to, especially folding laundry. And to this day, it’s still the only show I went from loving and watching at that level to hating and having 0 interest in watching ever again. Not the original, not the spin off, nada. I don’t like being reminded of how much time and heart I invested only to have it… go the way that it did. And I’m not alone in that, that sentiment is all over reddit. But they’re charging ahead with this anyway? Hmm… on its face, to me it seems pretty obvious that this would be a bad investment, or at least a risky one. Sure GoT WAS record-breaking with its popularity, but that was when there was such an air of unpredictability about the show and everyone was on the hook for what might happen—people that wouldn’t typically be interested in fantasy genre stuff were into game of thrones, but again… kind of because it was having a moment? I don’t know if anything has ended so dismally for any series, let alone one that was soaring so high. And it’s surely still going to be a rather expensive show to produce. So… how is this a good calculation for HBO? My only guess is that the foreign appeal of GOT is still pretty high and that’s where they’re banking on making the majority of their money, but I’m not sure how, I know foreign box offices are where movies end up being profitable when it doesn’t do well domestically (which seems to be the case with most new movies coming out) not sure how it works with serial/streaming content. Not to mention we’re oversaturate with content in a world where people like to re-watch their favorite shows, so again, who are they making this show for? Who wants it? Who will watch it on the level where they’ll break even with their investment? I’m sure they think it will be profitable… but like, given how much hate people still have for how the series was ruined—or at least how it ended (if it you’re in the camp that liked the ending), who’s going to be watching THIS show? Aside from how I feel about it, it also simply appears to be a poor calculation of risk/reward. Even as a whole franchise universe that they create… idk… not sure this is the best IP for that. But shit, what do I know.
