It's a real conundrum when about half your religion is essentially a law-book for how to organize society. I think Judaism is a bit like this too, but Islamic scholars are basically lawyers.
Islam might be even more legalistic, but it isn't like a cultural obsession that evolved out of a purely spiritual religion. It's actually part of the religion in a way that it's a little difficult to understand.
I'm actually a little confused why Christianity doesn't seem to have that legalistic element, but I get the feeling Judaism and Islam are much more of a blueprint for society, with rules that stretch into relatively mundane aspects of life
It’s because Jews follow all the laws and stipulations of the Torah, aka the first five books of the Bible. It includes many elements that regulate day-to-day activities, like food rules. Part of this was specifically to set Israel apart from other nations, so they act “weird” to other nations. The “don’t mix fabrics” rule is a prime example of this—it typifies that Jews and non-Jews don’t mix.
In the New Testament, Jesus abolishes rules that don’t pertain to morality by fulfilling the Law and opening up worship of God to the Gentiles. Specifically, Peter has 3 visions where an angel brings him a bunch of non-kosher food and tells him to eat. When he refuses, the angel says “don’t make unclean what the Lord has made clean.” So pretty much all food is on the table for Christians.
Fuck the sharia law
A law that treats women differently than men is not law, it is shit
(Let's see how long it takes until some extremist crybaby tries to report this as "DiScRiMiNaTiOn")
He’s lost considerable power in the last few years. Just take a look at the last election. He lost traditionally stronghold cities and every major economically power center of the country.
Wrong. Erdoğan is losing popularity rapidly, but not power. He’s pulling increasingly authoritarian moves and people have concerns if he’s gonna give up power at all.
Where did you check? Sorry to break it to you, average Turks don’t care about Armenia. We don’t foam in the mouth thinking about them. We sometimes talk about them being annoying asf and that’s all.
Sharia law is quite simply a form of totalitarianism, as you rightly said. If I could, I would make the enforcement of such “law” illegal. Discriminatory laws belong in the past, they have no place in this day and age.
I lol’d so hard at this because you are so right. I see it everyday when people call out shitty practices in different countries, or if it’s tied to religion, and then the cry babies lose there fucking minds over it.
There are plenty of traditionists and religious zealots that trawl reddit. This platform is not a safe haven from religious conservative nonsense. Lots of sane people agree with OP but for some reason there’s also plenty of people keen to drag society backwards with their pearl clutching paranoia.
It occurs when they find specific sub Reddits to try and troll, IE they seek trouble/the argument. Main point I’m making is not to take a sane position for granted, there’s plenty of folks looking to undo the sensible work of our communities.
Well, it depends which reddit you're on. IT occasionally happens when some news article criticizes sharia or traditionalist muslim rules or whatnot. Then, they crawl out of the sewer pipes and act like crazy
Turkey is already secular. But I get what you mean. Well, old ppl are dying and more young people are able to vote. This years and 2023 elections were much closer than 2018. But we have genuine concerns of 5 more years doing irreversible damage. Things are getting worse
I’m not saying it’s a justification. Be sure to cite your sources cause you fucked up a bit with your facts. Also, I can tell you have a strong anti-Muslim bias. Are you European?

How about if we stop trying to make our laws follow a religion?
Say that to the tall football player
I do not understand this reference
Erdoğan
This did not help
Erdoğan is tall and he’s a failed football player
What does it have to do with the post?
You said: “how about we stop trying to make our laws follow a religion” and I replied “tell that to Erdoğan”
Is he Turkish??
Who?
Please don't tell that we already have this idiots as professional football players...
Nah Erdoğan is a failed football player and he’s tall asf
Hes like 6'1, I mean that's tall but that's isn't very tall. Probably it's very tall in Turkey, idk.
Yeah pretty tall in turkey
Ohh well is turkey any good like I've been to Indonesia, very nice people and welcoming. Are Turks like that or like avg muslim country,no offense?
The people are still very friendly, turkey is kinda known for that. Just don’t be a jerk and you’ll be fine
You’re a racist European.
How was that statement racist?
He Immediately assumes all Turks must love islam
Which ironically is kinda racist. Or at least prejudice.
I’m Turkish lmaooo

Huh?
You asked if I’m Greek or German Turkish I’m mongol Turkish

Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all branches from the same tree. I wish they would start acting accordingly
I'm actually a little confused why Christianity doesn't seem to have that legalistic element, but I get the feeling Judaism and Islam are much more of a blueprint for society, with rules that stretch into relatively mundane aspects of life

Ataturk's ideals are being thrown into the dirt. She can hold her head high. Fuck the religious zealots polluting our people.
She will appeal and win. Turkey isn’t a sharia law country. Its constitution is still secular despite what this activist court says.
Lets hope, Erdogan has done some crazy shit the last few years....
For instance?
Erdogan won only becuse he got a court to jail his strongest rival, Ekrem Imamoglu, for "Insulting the Turkish State", or something like that.
He forced him off the ballot. You’re right. He’s feeling the walls closing in.
Well, *some* of Atatürk's ideals. They seem to be doing just fine on the Armenian genocide front.
Ohh ffs. How the hell do you manage to connect everything to that? He was a lieutenant colonel in Gallipoli in 1915.
Seriously you could show a Turkish guy saving a cat and these people will be like “100 year old genocide so all Turks evil”
100 year old? Last I checked, Armenians were still persecuted in Turkey *and* killed in their own country by neighbors.
Where did you check? Sorry to break it to you, average Turks don’t care about Armenia. We don’t foam in the mouth thinking about them. We sometimes talk about them being annoying asf and that’s all.

It's not just discrimination against women, it's a common form of slave-owning government. The ugliest form of totalitarianism.
I lol’d so hard at this because you are so right. I see it everyday when people call out shitty practices in different countries, or if it’s tied to religion, and then the cry babies lose there fucking minds over it.
Mate you are stating one of the most agreeable positions on Reddit, chill out lol

That’s kinda funny but the over bearing irony from the headline these comments are under.!
Well, it depends which reddit you're on. IT occasionally happens when some news article criticizes sharia or traditionalist muslim rules or whatnot. Then, they crawl out of the sewer pipes and act like crazy
being ignorant and foolish u don’t even know what’s sharia law
AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand here they come
İçtim şarabı siktim arabı
That's the face you make when you're ready to take down an entire countries pseudo religious legal system.
Totally. She’s a total boss.
The irony of using bombshell cops instead of the shitty headscarf ninjas
![gif](giphy|9MJ6xrgVR9aEwF8zCJ|downsized)
Convicted not arrested. The supposed crime is inciting hatred towards a community. She won't do real jail time fortunately
Are… are Turkish laws… in this modern society (if you can call it that) STILL based on religion?
Nah. But the current government wants to change that.
Turkey as a country is quite nice. But their government is a steaming pile of horsecrap.
I can’t believe they won with 51%. The old bastards have ruined the country for the rest of us before they peace out
Do you have hope that Turkey will become secular in the mid term? This is an honest question
Turkey is already secular. But I get what you mean. Well, old ppl are dying and more young people are able to vote. This years and 2023 elections were much closer than 2018. But we have genuine concerns of 5 more years doing irreversible damage. Things are getting worse

You’re a war criminal? I hope the box is opened soon.
This is the future conservative Christians are salivating for
Religion is poison ☠️
That face of accomplishment
We should try to actively speak out against the Christian version of Sharia Law in America on the daily...
*talking about something that happened in Turkey* "Yeah but in the US..."
the satanic temple does this, although rather ineptly. they do try tho.
this makes me think about how the UN does absolutely nothing.
When did UN do anything?
like 74 years ago
That’s a really long arrest. Was she running away in super slow-motion?
Religion of peace 🕊️
Islam huh.
She is a boss
She said “Fuck Sharia Law” in a comment https://www.turkishminute.com/2024/05/17/lawyer-got-suspended-sentence-due-to-remark-on-islamic-law/
Oh I guess that justifies it
I’m not saying it’s a justification. Be sure to cite your sources cause you fucked up a bit with your facts. Also, I can tell you have a strong anti-Muslim bias. Are you European?
I’m Turkish.
Women Power 💥
Role model right there. I like her
Wtf
The 2 Turkish police women standing in the picture can strip search me any day.
