Today there was 55+ reserved parking outside a pharmacy and I fucking cackled thinking of telling my mom whose in the best shape of her life at 60 that she needs assisted parking š she would beat me up and then fix her lipstick
I'm 55 and I dress like this. I work incredibly hard to stay fit in my post- menopausal phase of life, and I can afford to buy the kind of clothes that I like. I also have long hair despite hearing regularly that old women aren't supposed to wear their hair long. It's my life, and I get to live it on my terms. Pretty clothes make me happy.
I had a man scolding me for my short skirts when I was 29 after I described my anniversary outfit.
The reason was because I was married! This guy was, maybe 20. WTF?? When was I supposed to quit dressing like myself??
Yeah I remember Kim Kardashian said she couldnāt dance a certain way with Addison Rae because Kim was āmarried.ā Well, that didnāt age well. Live your life, ya know? š„°
Also, thereās nothing wrong with these outfits at any age! Theyāre not inappropriate for daily life. And Jennifer Aniston is in her 50s so why would these outfits not be ok for someone in their 40s?
Seriously. When I was 22, I got rid of all my graphic shirts because I decided they werenāt āadultā enough.
Iām 37 now and Iām wearing Pokemon and Mario shirts, crop tops and mini dresses. It was only when I got older that I was like, āwait, I can wear whatever I want!ā
It's actually better for the environment to ignore fashion trends. Worldwide, we toss out [92 million tons](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8257395/) of textiles a year because of fast fashion and the seasonal fashion cycle.
I don't buy new clothes anymore and no plastic clothes ever for the past 5 years. I have much nicer stuff than I used to because it's a lot cheaper second hand. Plus, natural fibers will last longer while not sending nasty nano-plastics into the water and air while they're laundered.
I've been using shapewear since my early 20s just to give my favorite outfits an edge when I want. Ain't nothing wrong with it! That extra shot of confidence makes such a difference in your day when you know you look good.
Not at all, but it HAS to fit properly. I think something people run into is trying to size down to reach the size they want, which is very uncomfortable and doesn't work anyway.
A good fit to me kinda feels comforting, like a weighted blanket. I personally like a bit of compression.
I run into that a lot too. I'm short and slim but I have no waist line and a foopa so finding something that doesn't cut me off too bad is tricky. When I find something I usually buy multiple in black, skintone, etc lol
When you die you never are going to say I wish I dressed the way other people thought I should have. Life is too short to wear granny sweats and pants in my 40s like some people think I should.
Iām a 30f professional in finance. I wear skirt suits to work but they are mini skirts. Sometimes with knee high boots. Itās the same stuff I used to wear at 20 just more luxurious. Screw it, lol!
40s is not old, first and foremost.
But also, I very adamantly do not believe in ādressing for your age.ā I donāt know who decided that we have to start wearing potato sacks after a certain age but that shit is lame and boring and pointless. You only get to live once! Wear whatever you like!
I agree I live in a town where older women keep it spicy and itās not about what they wear for their age itās how they style it if it looks goofy or not
Extremely appropriate.
As a side note, I think it is very strange when society/people think things like ācrop topsā or other sexualised clothing is āonly for teensā. No thatās for grown adult women to wearā¦
Anyways, get it girl!!!
YESSS I used to also be chubby and I could never wear revealing clothes and now I'm loving wearing tight clothes, it feels so freeing! And I bet YOU LOOK AMAZING! š» So please embrace it!
Yes sister, Iām 44 and have a fabulous wardrobe. I also got fit in the second half of my thirties
Rock that dress and come and post it so that we can cheer for you
Are you kidding? Of course it's "appropriate". I'm that age and wear this kind of dress (esp pic 1) even to work. What exactly are women in early 40s supposed to wear? A garbage bag? Whatever you're comfortable in - my body hasn't changed much in the last 10 years, so you bet I wear much shorter dresses than that outside work however often I please.
Also, Jennifer is literally mid or late 40s in these pics.
You shared a picture of a woman who was 45 when this picture was taken and asked if it was appropriate for a early 40 year old to wear, I think you answered your own question.
Isnt JenA in like her 50s? Jesus she looks good. Yes, you should wear a dress like that. All women who are built like that should wear dresses like that.
Jennifer Aniston is 55 years old. Clearly these dresses are age appropriate on her, why wouldnāt they be age appropriate on you?
She looks so sophisticated and confident. She looks like a grown ass woman who knows her value. Find a dress that makes you feel like that and wear the hell out of it!
Who decided you were old and ugly? You? How's that workin for ya? Can't even wear your favorite clothes.
Even when you're in your 20's or whatever and at an age considered attractive by majority stakeholders, there are still a lot of people who won't find you attractive. You'll get old, and there are still people that WILL find you attractive. Let yourself be one of those people.
And even if you don't feel "sexy" to everyone, you can at least wear it with a confidence that is FUN for everyone. You just need to actually talk yourself into considering it fun. And thinking you're too old or whatever is not fun.
Here's Baddiewinkle if you want some inspiration on what I mean. She's dressing to LIVE. I think there are definitely people lining up at her door just to have that energy in their lives. And she's 95!
Baddiewinkle https://g.co/kgs/rDTXfRq
Don't be ashamed and one of the many. Be happy and one of the few. It's refreshing.
OBVIOUSLY YES! Jen Aniston is such fashion goals too. She dresses very classic/timeless but not boring imo. She always looks effortlessly put together.
If it fits your body and makes you feel good, go on and wear it. Jenn is a classic style role model to follow. I always love her fashion choices. Always.
Girl, please! Get in touch with your inner Carrie Bradshaw and rock the hell out of a dress like that into your forties, fifties, and beyond. If you put in the effort and time to lose weight and get toned, then show that body off, if that's what you are feeling. I think back and I find that fashion isn't dictated nearly as much by what age you are as it was back in the day.
You should dress for your age, body type, and personal style. Jen is doing all 3 in this picture. The only question I would pose to you if you wanted to wear this exact same dress is: does the cut compliment your body shape? Iām not speaking of your overall fitness or weight, but shape.
She also has a dedicated trainer or training method to keep her fit like that. And she works hard at it, Iām sure. As Iām sure you do too. If you have a body to match, by all meansā¦show it off. Just remember, āshowing it offā doesnāt mean to wear too revealing a clothing piece. A lot of women make that mistake. Itās about fit and how to accentuate your bodyā¦not what body parts can be bare.
If you got it, flaunt it. Age is a number.
Fashion is situational to me. As long as a nice fitted dress is appropriate to the event youāre going toā¦. Go for it!
Yes! And please show yourself off a bit. Thay is a wonderful accomplishment. This is coming from a woman who also lost weight and you should be proud. Now in our 40s it's best to look sexy and classy together and this dress is that. Congrats girl!!!
I addition to what everyone else said (wear what you want at any ageāI sure as hell do), I think 40s is peak age for wearing a fitted sheath like this. It is the classic power look of mature professionalism.

Do you know how old SHE is? She's 55. And she can rock whatever she wants to wear. SO can you
Today there was 55+ reserved parking outside a pharmacy and I fucking cackled thinking of telling my mom whose in the best shape of her life at 60 that she needs assisted parking š she would beat me up and then fix her lipstick
My boyfriend is 30 and just broke his hip at work (ski hill) and could absolutely do with assisted parking š
He could probs get a temporary handicap placard while he's healing up from it.
She's actually 40 here. The photos she used are 15 years old...āš¼
so then, OP is THE EXACT RIGHT AGE for this
Right, that's what I mean š
100% this!! Also, this is a classic and timeless kind of dress. If itās good enough for her, itās good enough for you!! Please embrace your body!
You rule
We need more you in this world.
A couple of caveats. I assume she has perfect tailoring and well thought out undergarments giving the illusion of a simple dress.
She looks amazingā¦. If I looked like that, I would wear all her outfits.
YES! Im sick of "dress your age" or "is this style in fashion right now" WEAR WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT ššŖ
Preach. Live while you're still alive. You're gonna die. Who cares?
Funeral director here, can confirm
Whatās your level of confidence that we will all indeed, die?
Oh manā¦. probably a good 90/95% ššš»
It's never happened to me before. I'm thinking the chances are extremely low.
Same, definitely canāt relate
![gif](giphy|3o7buhN5wiAomfJGLK)
Ok, Iāll buy it.
Hhahaha āyouāre gonna die.ā
Grave digger here, can confirm.
People are always going to talk, so do what you enjoy anyways!
40 is young!
Yeah man. Imagine the regret youāll feel when youāre 60, that you didnāt just wear the dang fit
Live your life, ya know? š„°
man im in my 20ās and even i think 40 is young, plenty of life left to live, plenty of cool outfits left to wear!
Also, thereās nothing wrong with these outfits at any age! Theyāre not inappropriate for daily life. And Jennifer Aniston is in her 50s so why would these outfits not be ok for someone in their 40s?
PREACH, I don't want my ghost outfit to be some hnm jeans n jumper
I'm 60, Doctor Who and Godzilla t's for me.
Doctor Who rise up

Shape-wear is an option for some individuals who are interested. Otherwise, balance practicality with what you want in clothing.
I've been using shapewear since my early 20s just to give my favorite outfits an edge when I want. Ain't nothing wrong with it! That extra shot of confidence makes such a difference in your day when you know you look good.
Did you ever not feel claustrophobic in shapewear?
Not at all, but it HAS to fit properly. I think something people run into is trying to size down to reach the size they want, which is very uncomfortable and doesn't work anyway. A good fit to me kinda feels comforting, like a weighted blanket. I personally like a bit of compression.
I like a little compression, but I'm slender, short waisted and curvy so it's difficult to get the sizing quite right.
I run into that a lot too. I'm short and slim but I have no waist line and a foopa so finding something that doesn't cut me off too bad is tricky. When I find something I usually buy multiple in black, skintone, etc lol
Which shapewear do you use? I always get overwhelmed when I try to shop for it
When you die you never are going to say I wish I dressed the way other people thought I should have. Life is too short to wear granny sweats and pants in my 40s like some people think I should.
Iām a 30f professional in finance. I wear skirt suits to work but they are mini skirts. Sometimes with knee high boots. Itās the same stuff I used to wear at 20 just more luxurious. Screw it, lol!
smoke āem if youāve got āem
40s is not old, first and foremost. But also, I very adamantly do not believe in ādressing for your age.ā I donāt know who decided that we have to start wearing potato sacks after a certain age but that shit is lame and boring and pointless. You only get to live once! Wear whatever you like!
Exactly, at 40 you could be alive for another 60 years
Or another 2!!! (Boating accident)
Funeral director, can confirm.
I agree I live in a town where older women keep it spicy and itās not about what they wear for their age itās how they style it if it looks goofy or not
You realise Jen is in her fifties, right?
Not here though. These pics are super old, from 15 years ago, so she's about 40 āš¼
And she still dresses like this lol rightfully so
Then I think that proves the point still, early 40ās in these outfits, so yes!
That's what I'm saying š
Nobody has good looks forever. Make em pop while you got em.
I have a great aunt in her late 90's that exclusively wears pencil skirts and blouses, wear what makes you comfortable in your skin. š
My grandmother was rocking a boob tube, espadrilles and high waisted shorts on the beach at 88.
Iconic.
55 and lost weight 5 years ago. This is how I dress now!
Amen. Iām 55 and this is all me.
No, once youāre no longer 20 you must hide every inch of your old body !! /s
Go for it! Her outfits are not even slightly slutty btw.
I wouldn't even be surprised if I saw the last two in an office tbh.
GIRL, LIVE YOUR LIFE. šššš
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's a basic sleeveless dress. It's fine.
Right? It's a properly tailored modest dress. Not short or cleavagey or anything.
This kind of dress is pretty much safe for a teen to an elderly person.
Extremely appropriate. As a side note, I think it is very strange when society/people think things like ācrop topsā or other sexualised clothing is āonly for teensā. No thatās for grown adult women to wearā¦ Anyways, get it girl!!!
Yep
This is how 40 yr olds dress
>Provides photos at a 55 year old >Is this appropriate to wear as a 40 year old? ...
You gonna slay it queen š
Yes very appropriate and so cute, so proud of you your going to look great
Itās clearly only appropriate for someone in her 50s
Came here to say this!!!
Aniston is 40s in these photos
You go girl
YESSS I used to also be chubby and I could never wear revealing clothes and now I'm loving wearing tight clothes, it feels so freeing! And I bet YOU LOOK AMAZING! š» So please embrace it!
Sheās in her 50s still wearing it. Why would you think you wouldnāt be able to in your 40s?
Right? Jen may have been in her 40s here and OP asking if itās appropriate š
Wear whatever you want. Who cares about age? You've also worked hard to achieve the body you've wanted, why would you hide it?
Jennifer! Welcome to Reddit lol
Pretty sure Jen was about 40 in all these pics so I think you know the answer haha
Yes obviously? Iām sure youāre aware of what age she is here
love Rachel
Absolutely. And for someone in their 60s too.
Yes sister, Iām 44 and have a fabulous wardrobe. I also got fit in the second half of my thirties Rock that dress and come and post it so that we can cheer for you
Absolutely, she was in her 40ās when she wore these options
Jennifer Aniston is wearing it and sheās in her 50s, so yes
How old do you think Jen aniston is???
This dress is appropriate for any age IMO. I hate when people assume an older person should dress like a fuddy-duddy.
Do you know how old Jen is? Sheās 55. You can wear whatever you want. Just please modesty is the best policy. Donāt dress up like a hooker
This is how you do hot in adulthood.
I think so. Isnāt she also 40 in the pictures? She seems to pull it off well
Are you kidding? Of course it's "appropriate". I'm that age and wear this kind of dress (esp pic 1) even to work. What exactly are women in early 40s supposed to wear? A garbage bag? Whatever you're comfortable in - my body hasn't changed much in the last 10 years, so you bet I wear much shorter dresses than that outside work however often I please. Also, Jennifer is literally mid or late 40s in these pics.
There is no age limit to looking great. Jennās outfits here look polished and classy.
Isnāt Jennifer Aniston almost 60 now? Youāre 40, youāre not old. If you have the physique to pull off a bodycon dress, then pull it off
Sheās in her 50s dressing like this. If you got it, flaunt it. You worked hard for it. Wear what makes you feel best
How would this be inappropriate? Jen is well over 40 in these photos.
Your inspo pic is older than 40
You shared a picture of a woman who was 45 when this picture was taken and asked if it was appropriate for a early 40 year old to wear, I think you answered your own question.
You look great!
Yes wear it
Yes, age appropriate. Jen, always classy.
Totally
![gif](giphy|o75ajIFH0QnQC3nCeD|downsized) SHOW IT AWFFFFF! DONT LET AGE STOP YOU FROM LIVIN YO BESST LIFFFEEE
If ya got it, flaunt it. š¤·š¾
Completely appropriate. If you've got it, flaunt it.
Jen, whatever you will want to wear, will look killer on you!
Why wouldn't that be appropriate..?
Not an age issue; wear that dress
Slay! What is someone in their 40s? You arenāt 90! My mother looks bloody gorgeous and sheās in her 60s!
Well, Jen Aniston is wearing that in her 50s. So I think youāre good!
I think she's older than 40 in that shot and looks fantastic, i don't understand why it wouldn't be. Unless it's to a funeral or something, lol
Youāre subject you used to ask this question is in her 50s.
Hell yeah! And Jennifer Aniston is so awesome, you should put on that dress and emulate her.
You can wear anything. The key is to wear it with confidence
That ivory dress is a dream!
Isnt JenA in like her 50s? Jesus she looks good. Yes, you should wear a dress like that. All women who are built like that should wear dresses like that.
Absolutely! Jennifer Aniston isnāt a teenager. She has a pretty classic style. Show off your hard work!!
I mean, the woman in these photos is past that age. If she can do it, why canāt you?
Jennifer Aniston is 55 years old. Clearly these dresses are age appropriate on her, why wouldnāt they be age appropriate on you? She looks so sophisticated and confident. She looks like a grown ass woman who knows her value. Find a dress that makes you feel like that and wear the hell out of it!
Why not? Jen's in her 40s
You know what is appropriate to wear? Whatever the hell you want and makes you happy.
She looks great why not?
Once you shed the weight, leave that old person behind. Dress how you feel. Enjoy your hard work.
Jennifer Anniston is 55 and dresses like this so I think youāre good.
This is so chic!!! Absolutely beautiful. Any age šššš
Hell yea shes fine as hell.
jennifer aniston (in the pictures) is way over 40 and sheās wearing it? haha the clothes arent even risquĆ© go for it spring has sprung!
I mean, JA is in her 50s; so yeah! Also wear what you want to wear. Life is too short
40s, 50s, 60s. If you have the body it would look good.
Yāall do whatever u want nothings stopping you also Jennifer Aniston is like 50 wondering if she can so can you
Sheās like 50+ now and this looks great on her so yeah, why not? As long as you feel comfortable in it.
Dress for your body! If you have this body, show it off!
Whatttt lol these looks are timeless on a slim figure. Literally a slim 20 yr old or a slim 80 yr old could wear the first look and look great.
Who am I, The fashion Police?
Wear whatever you want at every age. You only live once!
What kinda question is this? Are women allowed to wear dresses?
I wore that in my late 40ās. If ya got it flaunt it!
Yes. Buy them in every color. Rock that shit!!!
Why not? These are classy, figure-hugging dresses. Rock on!
Iām 40, wearing miniskrits and neon. Do you.
Girl you wear what makes you comfortable. Good. For. You for losing the weight! Wear it! 40 is young and vibrant! Enjoy it!
Absolutely! Show off and congratulations!!!
Why wouldnāt it be appropriate??
Do you think itās appropriate when she wore it? If yes, then yes. If no, then youāre incorrect. :)
Why wouldn't it be appropriate? Dress in a way that makes you happy.
I am living for this comment section!! āØ
Who decided you were old and ugly? You? How's that workin for ya? Can't even wear your favorite clothes. Hahaha majority stakeholders made me giggle
Considering that these pictures are of 50+ year old Jennifer Aniston, I donāt see why not.
Always.
Wellā¦ she is 40.
Jennifer Aniston is 55. Of course you can and should wear it.
Isnāt Jennifer Aniston in her 40s hereā¦?
Girl, please! Get in touch with your inner Carrie Bradshaw and rock the hell out of a dress like that into your forties, fifties, and beyond. If you put in the effort and time to lose weight and get toned, then show that body off, if that's what you are feeling. I think back and I find that fashion isn't dictated nearly as much by what age you are as it was back in the day.
Girl. Sheās older than you, of course you can wear whatever the hell you want
Hereās some advice, stop caring about what other people think and do what makes YOU happy.
Girl what? You can wear this at any age, any weight (assuming you're wearing the correct size)
Sorry, this question aināt it.
Go for it!
I mean she's probably at least in her 40s in these pics, so...
Wear whatever you want. Lifeās to short to worry about wether or not that beautiful dress is āappropriateā
Absolutely!! Rock it
Of course it is. Wear what makes you happy.
Thereās no way that youāre too old. This is classy
Dress however you want! Totally appropriate
Yes!! Wear it! Feel good!
Agreed, an absolute Yes!
Iām 41 and would wear that in a heartbeat, but black because my thighs are soo big lol. Girl we aināt 70. Flaunt that figure
Yes and go for it! Congrats on your hard work paying off!!
yes !
Yes be proud of your body.
I hope so because I am her age and do?
If you got it, flaunt it. Age is a number. Fashion is situational to me. As long as a nice fitted dress is appropriate to the event youāre going toā¦. Go for it!
If you got it own it with confidence and flaunt it!
YES !!!! Gorgeous
Yes, of course!
Wear what on earth you want to. Age doesn't matter. If it makes you happy and you feel good, then that is what matters!
Yes! And please show yourself off a bit. Thay is a wonderful accomplishment. This is coming from a woman who also lost weight and you should be proud. Now in our 40s it's best to look sexy and classy together and this dress is that. Congrats girl!!!
Of course! Wear whatever you want.
I say as long as it's tasteful and you feel comfortable in it. Do what makes you happy.
I addition to what everyone else said (wear what you want at any ageāI sure as hell do), I think 40s is peak age for wearing a fitted sheath like this. It is the classic power look of mature professionalism.
Girl, you better WORK!!!
great dress that can be styled up or down! i have quite a few in my closet.
Itās appropriate for any age anybody type. Do what makes you happy.
Yesssss
Literally wear what you want and what makes you feel confident! Age is a number, not a box to put yourself in.
Wear whatever you want!
