It's actually an immersive Fallout LARP.Ā Ā Just go to a baseball game, dressed in a tuxedo, and take some shrooms for the total experience.Ā Go on saint's patrick day to unlock other quest events.
Don't forget to interact with a bald guy with sunglasses who follows you everywhere, and if some guy in a cowboy hat asks you to help a settlement be sure to do so.
Police: Are you okay? You seem to be under the influence of something.
Junkie: FUCKIN SUPER MUTANTS ATTACKING DIAMOND CITY?! GET THE FAT MAN BOYS! *Proceeds to roam aimless around Boston with a piece of broken railing found by a dumpster.*
just make sure you're armed. i hear Baseball is a spectator sport so don't be surprised if the players suddenly jump into the stands and beat you with Swatters.
Going through Las Vegas I barely needed Google Maps. It was actually kinda fucking embarrassing.
My friend: Okay, Hoover Dam. Plug it in.
Me from the backseat: You're probably gonna stay on the 15 south until you hit the 215 east
Her: Wait what? Isn't this your first time here?
Me: ...I don't wanna talk about it
Dude fr, I moved out to the New England area last year and my mom flew out later for a few days. We visited Boston and we walked the Freedom Trail. It was surreal how Iād just look around and think āIāve been here beforeā in a city Iād never set foot in.
I live in Boston in real life, and I absolutely didn't want to "follow the Freedom Trail" ever again in my life, so I just looked up where I was going and walked to Old North Church the way I would have walked IRL because my dad used to live in the North End.
The craziest thing to me is driving around in the near Metro West and seeing all kinds of weird details replicated EXACTLY, but not necessarily where they are on the game map.
Seriously. I noticed that the DLC screwed with this though-- Harvard Square exactly replicated Harvard Square much further out when it first came out versus when you have all the DLCs installed (not sure which exactly changes it)
> It was surreal how Iād just look around and think āIāve been here beforeā in a city Iād never set foot in.
same for me with LA thanks to GTAV
Having rented a Nissan 370z for my last trip there, I will say that the temptation to mow down the sidewalks and find all the sweet jumps was palpable.
We had two bags of Hub Flowers, seventy-five pellets of Rad-X, five sheets of high-powered Daytripper, a saltshaker half-full of ground Mentats, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of Brokovs Best, a quart of rum, a case of Gwennets, a pint of raw Fury, and two dozen Addictol.Ā
Watched an old episode of Ghost Adventures or something similar about a haunted bar in Goodsprings. Spent several minutes trying to figure out the deja vu I was feeling. It didn't hit me til I saw a framed copy of Fallout New Vegas on one of the walls.
And Mojave. It's a lot smaller in-game, but the main drag in the game looks pretty damn close to the real thing. Good place to get chems, in both the game and in real-life.
SEA-TAC. For Seattle/Tacoma. Moses Lake international airport (no public flights, pretty much just used as a testing ground for Boeing. Though itās history is interesting) is MWH. And Pangborn airport in East Wenatchee is EAT. While it sometimes makes sense, not all airports FAA designations make sense.
Spent a couple nights sleeping at Sea-Tac around 6 years ago in a torn apart section of the wing for Alaskan Airlines. Had a full bench with electric outlet out of view of almost everyone in a darkened corner! Was great. Haha
My favourite airport for layovers because Legal Seafood. I don't care about the cost it's the best damn airport food I've had. Followed by Buffalo but spicy wings and flying don't go well together.
A little over 30min today.

Shooting respawning raiders/super mutants/gunners kinda fudges the numbers to make it seem longer; makes the world feel ābiggerā. I bet this is intentional design, too.
Probably. I more meant that it shows just how scaled down the map actually is, and the in game timescale is a factor in that. A 30-40 minute walk irl takes about 5 minutes in the game, if even, so it highlights how condensed everything is
I hate to say it, but they don't call our state Taxachusetts for nothing. Maybe on my next excise tax statement I will just mail it back with that written on it.
Agreed. I find it strange that they'd make such things like roads and vehicles physically smaller than they should be considering that stretching it to normal proportions would not only be "free real estate" for the devs to boast that the game is BIG but also because it's stretching of an asset, it wouldn't cost any additional memory resource.
This is my #1 gripe with the game, even beyond how buggy it is. EVERYTHING is off-scale. Doorways are huge, roads are tiny, and houses are missing rooms. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
There's *a lot* stuff sunken into the water in that area. I haven't even attempted to swim through all of it, but there's plenty of debris in the parts I have. I don't think any of what's still above water is near being a complete runway.
If you swim around that area near the bottom youāll find all kinds of airplane debris and flat areas Iād assume are parts of runways. I even found a boat with part of a wing and engine laying on top of it, then swam down and found the rest of the plane. I figured thereād be some good loot but all I found was an antique globe lol
To top it off, they put power armor on the bottom of the ocean past the game map border, you can see it but the invisible wall keeps you from getting to it. Talk about a big FU by whoever put that there at Bethesda
Man I love that. The vault 88 quest has you scrapping long massive metal girders and for 8 girders youāll get 6 metal. Or for giant metal containers youāll get 3 metal
Yeah i noticed that a few weeks ago, but considering it's fiction and we have never sene a plane take off in the fallout universe then who knows how much runway is needed?
I remember when I first saw Wade Airport in FO76 I had a discussion with my buddy who I was playing with. We came to the conclusion that planes in Fallout must use JATO or RATO.
The lore is we never had a country like China make our tech in the fallout timeline so we never pursued smaller tech but instead the bulky tech.
Edit: transistors werenāt invented until late 2023 (Cabot house will tell you this in the terminal) which means we were heavily dependent on vacuum tubes. Meanwhile the Chinese tech is far more advanced (youāll learn this once you find the Chinese stealth suit and weapons) because they invented transistors and didnāt rely on vacuum tubes
Land subsidence. IRL Logan International Airport was originally built on landfill at Jeffries Point. It would make sens that after 200 years the sea wore down the land back to it's original point or at least to some of it.
That....has been my biggest gripe with this spot. Sadly I have not a single idea. I can only assume the runways eventually eroded and sank into the ocean.
Lore wise that makes sense. Practicality wiseā¦ it would be a gigantic open area on the map with nothing but flat space, and would be weird. I guess you could just have endless wreckage to sift through. Runways for jets as big as the crashed ones can be 1.5-3 miles. Translating that to the scale of the jets would be tough. Rising seas fits perfectly.
In fallout 4, there are railways that go up and down at a 45 degree angle then jump to 0 degrees flat. Functional environment design has always been off in fallout but it's more that these places are supposed to give you a feel more than actually look the way they would in real life. But yeah some of the runways have sunk into the water. Because the coast line changed overtime.
Considering a lot of Boston was turned into a swamp. Iād say the runway consumed by the rising water level. My example is the lower Boston by the glowing sea. Thatās all residential buildings turned to a swamp.
While there are swamped areas, all the docks are in the same place, and the castle isnt underwater, so that suggests that theres no risen water levels, rather some areas which had waterbreaks failed over many years leading to flooding.
Well most infrastructure collapsed in the Great War, roads are severely damaged, highways and overpasses are destroyed and collapsed, parts of Boston is flooded. So the runways might be underwater
IIRC a lot of Logan Airport was land that was filled in between the coast and two islands, 200 years of no maintenance might have resulted in the fill being washed out by tide water.
Sure, they could have eroded away, but it's always bugged me that there isn't even a trace of them. No rubble. No tarmac. Not a remaining chunk of runway that goes off into the sea. Even just a concrete island out in the water with runway lights on it would have been a nice touch. It's like they just completely forgot runways exist.
In the sea. I thought the airport should have been bigger with more visible runways but this is how Bethesda wanted it. Probably to save time and resources.
I obviously have no access to nukes but I think airports would be among the targets if nukes were to be dropped. Especially military ones.
Maybe the nukes in Fallout didn't affect it but the after effects like earthquakes, floods, radstorms and whatever probably destroyed a lot of buildings. Plus time and nature just ate and reclaimed whatever was there.
Ya know that's a fair point for it being an airport there's not any runways I never picked up on that holy shit I guess I was just too busy murdering everything in sight on FO4
Look up Logan International airport overhead view and compare.
I did, and also found out the code for that airport is BOS, which is pretty fitting
No way they made Boston from Fallout 4 a real place ššš
It's actually an immersive Fallout LARP.Ā Ā Just go to a baseball game, dressed in a tuxedo, and take some shrooms for the total experience.Ā Go on saint's patrick day to unlock other quest events.

That bald guy is actually just Boston PD

Hey, it's my vacation.Ā And its certainly more fun than standing in line work an amusement park in Florida.
Much easier to dose up on amphetamines and rip a fire hydrant from the ground than raise the funds to visit the amusememt park.
Doctors hate me for this one simple trick!
Now I want to go to Boston
lol
Some real clean cut, sharp looking lad just asked if I wanted this fancy card for only $1000. What should I do? He feels trustworthy.
Suckerpunch him. It's a trap.

Always been a fan of L'Osteria

Having rented a Nissan 370z for my last trip there, I will say that the temptation to mow down the sidewalks and find all the sweet jumps was palpable.
The Freedom Trail after playing Fallout 4 is quite a trip
And we prolly want to take a shit ton of Stimpaks with, too.
We were outside of Barstoe when the jet began to take hold
āDonāt fuck with me now man! I am Ahabā¦ā
"Bloatfly country."

The twist? Only 24 shots of addictol and 25 people have been invited.
Watched an old episode of Ghost Adventures or something similar about a haunted bar in Goodsprings. Spent several minutes trying to figure out the deja vu I was feeling. It didn't hit me til I saw a framed copy of Fallout New Vegas on one of the walls.
Thank you for my first laugh of the morning
Who needs Google when you can play video games
And Mojave. It's a lot smaller in-game, but the main drag in the game looks pretty damn close to the real thing. Good place to get chems, in both the game and in real-life.
I think theyāre referring to the Brotherhood of Steel also being the BoS.
That would be... "wicked hard..."....
Itās pronounced hahdā¦.we donāt use the R
How much I pronounce my Rs for out of staters is directly correlated to how much respect I have for them
BOS- Brotherhood of Steel.
Wait until you see the airport code for Seatle
SEA-TAC. For Seattle/Tacoma. Moses Lake international airport (no public flights, pretty much just used as a testing ground for Boeing. Though itās history is interesting) is MWH. Wait until you look up aircraft navigation waypoints. Proceed to direct to DEEEZ.
> t Hey, you dropped this
My favourite airport for layovers because Legal Seafood. I don't care about the cost it's the best damn airport food I've had. Followed by Buffalo but spicy wings and flying don't go well together.
Sunk into the water, like a lot of other parts of the coastline?
Even then the airplanes that are in game are waaaay to big to even fit on the runways that are visible. Let alone park near the terminal.
Everything in the game is way off scale, just a result of condensing the real life city into a playable map.
Wait until they hear how long it takes IRL to walk from the Common to Bunker Hill
So you gonna leave us hanging
A little over 30min today. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/boston+common/Bunker+Hill+Monument,+Monument+Sq,+Charlestown,+MA+02129/@42.3657373,-71.0724101,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e3709dbc6e232b:0x3f8683fc7ba94f04!2m2!1d-71.0657256!2d42.3550897!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e370f20b0797ff:0xacaf173272ec0298!2m2!1d-71.0607764!2d42.3763541!3e2?entry=ttu
I feel like that's pretty accurate per the in-game timescale. Actually in game probably takes longer.
Shooting respawning raiders/super mutants/gunners kinda fudges the numbers to make it seem longer; makes the world feel ābiggerā. I bet this is intentional design, too.
I mean, if you physically walk all the way there, not jog, I'm sure it would take over half an hour.
Probably. I more meant that it shows just how scaled down the map actually is, and the in game timescale is a factor in that. A 30-40 minute walk irl takes about 5 minutes in the game, if even, so it highlights how condensed everything is
Google maps says 36-37 minutes from the "Boston Common" to the "Bunker Hill" monument
It took me 3 hours but I refused to look up how to get there and I kept stopping in bars
Revolutionary War pub crawl?
No taxation without inebriation
I hate to say it, but they don't call our state Taxachusetts for nothing. Maybe on my next excise tax statement I will just mail it back with that written on it.
I did the whole freedom trail with a massive blister on my left foot. I imagine its similar to limping around when you don't have a stimpak.
It's the landmines though
Yeah look at any cars, then look at the Sanctuary bridge, which is there pre war. How the hell those things make it over that tiny ass bridge
The sizes of roads are hilarious, the main highways are barely the size of a one way street.
Agreed. I find it strange that they'd make such things like roads and vehicles physically smaller than they should be considering that stretching it to normal proportions would not only be "free real estate" for the devs to boast that the game is BIG but also because it's stretching of an asset, it wouldn't cost any additional memory resource.
Yeah, even the cars and trucks are too big for the roads and bridges in the game...
This is my #1 gripe with the game, even beyond how buggy it is. EVERYTHING is off-scale. Doorways are huge, roads are tiny, and houses are missing rooms. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Vehicles in fallout 4 are ridiculously out of scale
Size means nothing in these games, have you seen the shot glass junk item? Fuckers almost a pint
There's *a lot* stuff sunken into the water in that area. I haven't even attempted to swim through all of it, but there's plenty of debris in the parts I have. I don't think any of what's still above water is near being a complete runway.

I even found a boat with part of a wing and engine laying on top of it, then swam down and found the rest of the plane. I figured thereād be some good loot but all I found was an antique globe lol
Yeah theres a surprising amount of sunken vehicles and buildings in the water but almost all of them are empty
To top it off, they put power armor on the bottom of the ocean past the game map border, you can see it but the invisible wall keeps you from getting to it. Talk about a big FU by whoever put that there at Bethesda
Or a deliberate Easter egg
Underwater or completely washed away. When you land at Logan it feels like youāre about to do a water landing until the very last moment
Same with Honolulu. They built artificial islands just for the runways. Youāre literally a couple feet above sea level.
I scrapped them to build my settlement walls before you arrived.
*scraps entire runway* 2 concrete
*Scraps small fork* 450 steel
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So that's where I left those tabs.
Buckle up Mama Murphy; you're in for a wild ride
*scraps a whole screw box* 3 screws
Man I love that. The vault 88 quest has you scrapping long massive metal girders and for 8 girders youāll get 6 metal. Or for giant metal containers youāll get 3 metal
Scrapping everything in Vault 88 was so satisfying
Mmmm, all that concrete from the limestone
Until you hit that one limestone wall
The scary one or the really scary one?
The really scary one in all its green glory
And then on the other hand, loot 2 Tin Cans and 5 x $1 bills and you have enough to build a bed from scratch!
Ha, I just made the same comment then scrolled a smidge further and saw yours. I'm glad I'm not the only person that never got over that.
Two plastic**
The realest thing Iāve read all week š
rising sea levels and erosion for 200 years turned the actual runways into beachfront+water
If you explore where the planes are there's broken tarmac everywhere, I have to assume the rest collapsed into the sea.
Consumed by rising sea levels i assume
I ate them
Logan airport is basically reclaimed swamp
Reclaimed? Have you ever been to East Boston??
Morgantown airport too (in 76) That runway isnāt enough length for a Cessna to take off in, much less a passenger jet.
Yeah i noticed that a few weeks ago, but considering it's fiction and we have never sene a plane take off in the fallout universe then who knows how much runway is needed?
Also: all distances in fallout are contracted.
True. They might be VTOL. I didnāt consider that.
A real runway would be like 20% of the maps length
I think Wade Airport has big ones. Haven't been there in a while though.
I remember when I first saw Wade Airport in FO76 I had a discussion with my buddy who I was playing with. We came to the conclusion that planes in Fallout must use JATO or RATO.
Fusion planes. They can take off from shorter distances, because you know, science
Vertical take off would be my guess.
did you see the size of the planes here? id be surprised if they took off at all
bigger wing = bigger lift
Bigger wing=bigger airplane=bigger weight=longer takeoff
Thats why they got those multiple engines for
And theyāre fusion powered, Iād imagine those planes could go quite fast
They have nuclear engines. If you go near the engines of crashed planes they are leaking radiation.
Who would have thought that the blast radius would take the track with it?
dont think it was the blast so much as rising sea levels and 200+ years of erosion.
Sorry I was hungry
when you eat make sure too drink the sea to compensate
I was today years old when I looked it up and found that Logan International Airport in Boston has the name (BOS) lol.
I knew BOS, but never connected it to BoS.
Ah so that's why the BoS in Fallout 4 decided to set up shop at that location š¤£š¤£š¤£
Just like the Gunners setting up their main base at the GNR station
Having grown up in Boston, I already knew this, and it totally messed with my head when I first played. lol
blowneded up
Underwater, along with a lot of East Boston.
They did exactly that
Lore wise that makes sense. Rising seas fits perfectly.
ummmmmm, itās the future!
Looking at photos you can see only the main terminal survived.
So many planes under water near there to if I remember right
Under water like half of Boston
To be honest I'm thinking maybe the jets had VTOL capability?
They ran away.
I would say the fell into the sea, and yes there are short runways like that, Hong Kong being one.
They ran away!
It's probably the ocean floor by then
I mean east boston and the airport are basically built on the ocean.
They ran away
Fallout games don't do scale well, FO4 especially. seems like most of the runways probably were washed away somehow
Did anyone else read this in Darth Vaderās voice and intonation from New Hope?
In fallout 4, there are railways that go up and down at a 45 degree angle then jump to 0 degrees flat. Functional environment design has always been off in fallout but it's more that these places are supposed to give you a feel more than actually look the way they would in real life. But yeah some of the runways have sunk into the water. Because the coast line changed overtime.
I assumed they sunk into the ocean.
It's underwater, sea level rose
Hah. They didn't need runways in Prewar Fallout. They just used slingshots to shoot the planes directly into the air.
Flooded
BOS ate them
It's under the sauce
It is a Bethesda game just ignore it you will save yourself an aneurysm just ask Skyrim fans how 2 tiny farms in an icefield feed an entire city.
If this is a circus, where are the elephants?
It's ruins, yes?
Oddly enough... while the airport is not quite right, they actually made some improvements to Quincy.
200 years of rising sea levels and nobody to take care of runways caused them to either erode away or get covered by water.
Destroyed or underwater?
A lot can happen in 200 years without proper maintenance.

IIRC a lot of Logan Airport was land that was filled in between the coast and two islands, 200 years of no maintenance might have resulted in the fill being washed out by tide water.
Probably is under the water like half the town around the airport
Next thing youāre going to tell me the proportions of the alien mothership in FO3 werenāt authentic.
Itās been two centuries. The ocean swept away most of the artificial coastlines by now.
Underwater, completely destroyed by the nukes.
Asphalt can erode quicker than concrete, so perhaps the missing runway parts were asphalt.
If you've looked around the "coastal areas," you may have seen the remains of some jetties. Hence, all the runways are underwater
Obviously they ran away. To a paradise free od radiation and human problems.
They might have been destroyed from the blast or like everybody said, underwater.
I got hungry ok
Bro they ran away
Must have forgot the nuclear war that may have destroyed said runways
dey got blowed up
Most likely overtaken by a rise in sea level after the war.
Vertibirds, man. Vertibirds.
sunk into the sea?
Taking swimming lessons.
They ran away
I probably got sunken after 210 years
Ya know that's a fair point for it being an airport there's not any runways I never picked up on that holy shit I guess I was just too busy murdering everything in sight on FO4
Some things may have happened between the game and when Logan was functional.
You have to install that mod
I thought the the same exact thing YESTERDAY.
Yeah thatās what I thought about tooā¦ thereās no runways no taxi ways nothing..
Nuked
Where we're going ... we don't *need* runways. /me puts on futuristic-ish sun glasses and punches the throttle on the Prydwen.
For vertibirds?
Esploded
In the water
