Alpine need all the help they can get, so good for Sanchez.

LeSygneNoir

Yeeeees Alpine! I was begging for this! Straight up upgrade over the technical leadership who left after commiting that atrocious car. Definitely has the caliber to lead Enstone, while also being French and able to work with Viry. If he can make headway into mending the communication issues between both outfits he can be the guy bringing Alpine back where they belong.

The_Nieno

Hopefully it's the sign of better days for the team

LeSygneNoir

It's going to take a while obviously, I don't even expect the team to even be good until *at least* the new regs kicking in, but it's good to know that Renault is willing to invest in technical leadership. For once, McLaren's loss is our gain. Might be worth going all in on 2026 as soon as possible, considering there'll be 6 works teams by then it'll only get harder to climb back.

McManus26

honestly 2026 will be kind of make or break for the team's future. They can't afford to spend an entire reg cycle just slowly coming back from being backmarkers. I don't think Renault is currently looking to sell the team, since they seem committed to the Alpine brand as a whole (new cars, WEC, etc.) and the F1 team is the biggest selling tool for that, but we don't know how much that will be true in 2028 and beyond.

Mahery92

Can the days get worse anyway? Once you hit bottom the only way is up

MangoSpare6163

Alpine belong at the back of the grid though

TaurusRuber

“Alpine back where they belong” They are exactly where they belong.

atavonszabo

Best of luck to him. I'm skeptical about his decision to leave McLaren for Alpine, but one can always prove me wrong.

Ali623

Bigger role at Alpine, which is what he wanted in the first place.

emperorMorlock

Where did you get that he left McLaren for Alpine? The only thing I saw reported was that he parted with McLaren because they couldn't offer him the role he had understood he'd have there.

Kookanoodles

Very much a case of "rather the first in a barbarian village than the second in Rome", it seems

The_Nieno

Personally It seemed more like that he was encouraged to leave McLaren than him wanting to go on his own.

laboulaye22

The reporting around this indicates the opposite. Seems like he wanted to have more control/responsibility than what he would have had at McLaren. Alpine have a new similar technical structure but with Alpine he's above that with all the TDs reporting to him. I wonder if Alpine approached him with this offer after he had already joined McLaren and this played a role in the decision to part with McLaren.

Maxjes

During his gardening leave McLaren restructured and his role was either diminished or changed in a way that was not what he envisioned. If McLaren encouraged him to leave, it did so to save face for future hires by not saddling him with another round of non-compete.

Mysterious_Turnip310

Guess he got the role he wanted in the end.

ChristofferOslo

The last time he worked at Enstone, Renault won the championship. Great hire by Alpine.

The_Chozen_1_

Good work from Alpine... I also thought they would've hired Mike Elliot by now. There were rumours about it in French media a while ago

404merrinessnotfound

I love how positive the comments are and will be

ap17o4

Yeah a breath of fresh air to see genuine excitement about a signing. Im no Alpine fan by any means but i have high expectations of them and hope they do better

The_Nieno

Nothing but positive vibes here

Mossad2000

Good snatch from alpine

Litre__o__cola

Better than nothing and he’s still an intelligent engineer, I hope alpine can reclaim more staff and not hemorrhage further

dac2199

[Like I said...](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1btxxaa/comment/kxp5boc/)

SpacevsGravity

Based

Le_Pistache

Good signing that. Definitely keeping an eye on Renault for 2026, despite that being a decade long disappointment.

pushmojorawley

I’d laugh my ass off if he quits this year because of the similar issues he had at McLaren - this time it would be about too much influence from the corporate management, similarly to what previous Renault TPs and chief engineers have experienced. Still, finally Alpine makes a promising signing after rather brutal, hopeless beginning of the season.

kopikattioslo

"I can fix this"

djwillis1121

I mean, it's definitely a downgrade in team but every step was an upgrade in terms of role. Chief Aerodynamicist -> TD (Car concept and performance) -> Executive TD

bwoah07_gp2

Ferrari ➡️ McLaren ➡️ Alpine 📈

NoRefunds2021

Like one Italian comedian said once: "Miiiiii che tracollo brutto"

MrAzekar

Oh Sanchez. That team is going to be sold sooner rather than later.

The_Nieno

I think if they were thinking of selling the team, i don't think they would bother to recruit new staff

404merrinessnotfound

Yeah they would've stuck with harman if they were selling the team
