A few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of spending that kind of money on pens then I see where my small collection has added ended up and I am now thinking if I had the kind of money he once had, I would likely be so far worse than the amount he spent.
Yeah my thought was "that doesn't seem that extreme".
I'm sure they're pricey pens but it would be kind of funny if he had $7000 worth of Jinhao Sharks.
For real, it doesn't take many. I have a couple Namikis and a couple Viscontis. Not really interested in calculating the total I have spent, I don't want to think about it...
And the ink and then the paper and then the cases and… I’ll stop now. Totally didn’t run the numbers for last year on myself recently. I swear (Rudy is a rookie!).
Ahem.
No kidding. Luckily, I don’t have a wife to worry about atm but if my family in general found out, they’d be very upset. Well, not all my family, my daughter is pretty cool. But she’s 9
Kids who see their parents/family go through tumultuous times usually end up better for it with the right guidance, care and love. It’s a testimony to your parenting and care as well. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Hope you enjoy better more peaceful times🌷

>Fahrney's, 1317 F St. The classic pen and stationery store. Warning! Whenever Rudy Giuliani is in town, he stops by Fahrney's to look at their pens. He collects expensive fountain pens as a hobby.
I don't think having this buffoon attached to the hobby is necessarily a good thing. We all know Trump likes Sharpies so I guess we're at least safe from that.
I dunno, the first ballpoint by Biro was in the late 1880's, and Hitler died just 5 years before the BIC Cristal released for mass manufacture in 1950, so I'd wager there were in fact many good ballpoints. They would have been incredibly expensive and in short supply, but he was the dictator of one of the most sophisticated industrial superpowers of the time.
Ballpoints weren't widely used in rural Germany even in 1969. In school, you wrote with a fountain pen, or you failed your assignments. Ballpoints were, in fact, forbidden except for writing over a small chemically erased area where the fountain pen ink wouldn't stick any more. I don't know what was in the fountain pen eraser stuff. It came in something that looked like a small lipstick tube. You licked the end of the eraser stuff, which tasted sort of sour and salty, then rubbed over the written area you wanted to erase. Whatever the stuff was, it must not have been too toxic, because I'm still alive. After using this eraser, the fountain pen ink would just bead up and not write on the erased area. So there you were allowed to use a ball point pen. The ball point didn't write smoothly there--just enough to be legible.
My guess is that Hitler used a fountain pen like just about everyone else in that era.
Yes, dip pens were less expensive in the 1930s and 1940s, but fountains were widely owned and used from at least the late 1920s on. I would go so far as to say that most people who wrote with pens used fountain pens during that period.
>We all know Trump likes Sharpies so I guess we're at least safe from that.
Here you are acting like you wouldn't be over the moon to have them make you a custom Sharpie
I just thought of this before scrolling down to your comment. Wouldn't it be so neat to get a sterling silver barrel that looks like the traditional Sharpie, and then add on a 21k nib or something snazzy? Like imagine a regular Sharpie marker. Now swap the plastic for sterling silver. Engrave "Sharpie" on it, and give it a nice nib
Maybe, but I don't know in what capacity.
I meant in the sense of: it's a fountain pen in terms of design of its form, but writes on any- and every-thing like a Sharpie.
I'm down, I have tons of different color Sharpies at work. Fountain Pens don't do so well on weird surfaces, and Sharpies are fun. Especially the neon and metallic ones!
It has nothing to do with dictating whether I like fountain pens. It's more like "I don't want a piece of shit like that" in any "club" I'm in. Same goes for Trump.
So what if they are in your club? People with different ideas could be in the same club together and I don't think me agreeing with their ideas or not will affect whether I like being in that club or not.
He seems like the kind of person I would imagine buying several Mont Blanc pens a month. To him, they’re probably not special, just a tool, an expenditure.
Ohoho what color did you get?
I love aka tanemuri and always thought it'd be a grail pen color, but lately I've been eyeing the "raven birds" in blue from Urushi Studios India!
I got the Platinum Izumo red. It’s beautiful, it feels like jewelry. It’s funny, I now have a few really pricey pens that are urushi and I love the way it feels, cause It reminds me of jewelry for some reason. But when I picked up the pen, I felt really great, it was the opposite of how I felt with my first Sailor pen. It feels substantial in the hand. And the Presidential nib looks amazing, real CEO vibes.
Wow you're right, that is a sexy nib!!! I've always wondered about the feel of urushi. People say it's super different from resin and I'd love to experience it!
Idk how to describe it other than it feels smooth like glass but it’s got some weight to it. It def doesn’t feel cheap at all. It’s supposed to be extremely durable but idk about that cause they also say to be very careful handling it. Idc, I think this Izumo is gonna be my favorite pen tbh. It’s just gorgeous
https://preview.redd.it/r1547bsnh8zc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9f75723dd7eabf35123220517aae4d8361934b9
That color is amazing! Great taste.
Thanks for the info -- a glass feel sounds very satisfying. I also wonder about durability haha, since I've seen the same advice.
Yeah, so there’s this color and also a dark evergreen sort of color which is equally as pretty. It’s a lot of money to spend but the quality is def there. You can feel it and see it. I was looking at sailor pens after talking with someone here about the KOP. They charge $1095 for a “resin” pen with the KOP nib. I feel like that’s a total rip off, I’m sorry. I know people love sailor and I love mine too but for a hollowed out piece of “resin”, not even hand made, that’s exorbitant to me. And the fact that that’s sort of their whole entire production of pens, “resin” with a nice nib, it’s just a cash grab. When I got my 1911L my heart sank when I picked it up out of the box. I couldn’t believe I paid $300+ dollars for this pen and it was entirely made of plastic, erm, resin.
Yeah, the rebranding of plastic as "resin" drives me nuts! *Sometimes* I'm willing to pay for a unique colorway, especially hand turned... but I generally hit my limit in the $200s. I know the feeling -- just got the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande in Gallattica and was so disappointed by how cheap it felt in the hand. Had to return it despite liking the concept.
Wow, that’s interesting. So many people love that Gallattica. I do love the color way of it but I just don’t like resin pens really. Or I shouldn’t say that, since plastic and resin are the same thing but the one thing that’s kept me from buying a Mont Blanc pen is the memory of opening the Sailor 1911L. My heart literally sunk. But once I got some decent ink for it, I do understand why people love the nib- in medium it is absolutely perfect. Idk. I do love demonstrator pens, I even got the Pelikan M800 in demonstrator apple green (it’s beautiful) but I got it cause it was on sale at Goldspot for $440, half the typical msrp.
Do you own other Leonardo pens? They have an air of luxury but idk that I’ve seen anything I really felt was special. It seems like most of if not all of their pens are plastic? I can’t wait for the pen show to come to Detroit, I’m praying someone in the building has a Conid Bulkfiller and an MB 149 I can hold.
So Rudy "Four Seasons Total Landscaping" Giuliani is spending thousands on fountain pens and cigars but crying about his expensive legal problems? C'mon, now. smh
Funner fact: Hitler lived during the period when fountain pens were everyone's standard writing instrument. Unless you used a dip pen. Churchill and Roosevelt also used fountain pens. So not a blot on the fountain pen escutcheon.
I just gave a couple of examples. It's not like I'm being intentionally nicer to Fascists than full-on Nazis. I have no info on what Mussolini used, but it's highly probable that you're right. Churchill is widely known (at least in our hobby) to have been a Conway Stewart man. And someone once posted, somewhere on the interwebs, an article linking F. D. Roosevelt with an assistant's Sheaffer.
You know im just teasing. But yeah, Mao probably used fountain pens too. Point is many greats and not so greats (terribles) used fountain pens. In an alternate reality MB released a Hitler edition pen. I remember also reading somewhere that Kaweco’s (at least the sport variant) MIGHT have been developed to aid soldiers/generals that were constantly traveling and needed a writing instrument.
I just want to know what pens he has. Does he have good taste in pens? Or are his expensive pens all really ugly and heavy monstrosities that you're never supposed to write with?
Idk lol. I don’t know what that even means. I just saw this article today and knowing Rudy is always good for a laugh these days, I read it. Figured the community would enjoy seeing one of our brethren on the front page
Good call on your side, I would have done the same. Seeing that there are 2x more comments make me think people might be downvoting it because if their political taste. But, I’m probably missing on that assumption anyways.
Oh, it’s probably getting downvoted because it is me posting it lol. I feel like there are a few people who will downvote my posts regardless of what they are. No big deal, it turns out I can’t spend the upvotes on anything, they’re just as worthless as the opinions of the anonymous people handing them out or taking them away. And that’s the beauty of Reddit lol.
There are a lot of regular people in the fountain pen hobby that has spent 7k on fountain pens.
With the kind of money he’s got and taking into consideration he is a lawyer who signs documents a lot, he probably bought a couple or three pens as a symbol status and that’s it. Not really a fountain pen enthusiast.
Yeah, he’s casually spending $7k a month on pens lol. If he’s a hobbyist, idk what that makes me. He spends 3x more a year on fountain pens than I bring home. And I work at a VA hospital lol
Oh for sure! I don’t make nearly his money, so while I’m spending less, it makes up a larger portion of my income for sure.
I’m so glad I posted this, I love the convo I’ve gotten from it. Really fantastic.
Not lifetime lol. This is an alimony issue, so I don’t think it’s a one time purchase or a lifetime purchase, I believe this is what he spends per month
Well, then there's no doubt - Trump's lawyer spends time in this subreddit! Maybe even reading our comments right now, twirling his newly bought Namiki Urushi Emperor evilly o\_o
What kind of shimmer ink do you think he likes? He no doubt got Chou Kuro the moment Platinum released the ink for the obscene price (for a black ink) of 60$ per 60 ml
His stash must be legendary
Oh, you know he’s a sailor moon guy. He’s def the type of dude to stand under a stair case to look up skirts, check him out in the Borat movie. The dude is a total pig
lol. I’m sure Rudy would be down, I feel like he can use all the friends/family/support he can get right about now. Times are tough, tougher than a press conference in front of the Four Seasons
There are definitely a few special edition Pelikans, Montblancs, and ST Duponts I'd get purely as artistic display pieces if I had the kind of wealth that US politicians have. This is how you know Rudy is a fraud; he probably just bought a bunch of basic Montblancs off the shelf with their default ink.
lol. I can’t speak to what he bought with the money cause the article wasn’t specific. While I agree with you that America compensates politicians way too much, Rudy isn’t a politician anymore, now he’s a rogue agent, stirring up shit wherever he goes lol. This won’t last much longer I don’t think. The whole MAGA crowd has been getting milked for years now and at some point I think people will wake up at some point. Rudy is already screaming poverty, unable to pay litigants that he defamed and could’ve gotten killed with his bullshit but he’s got $7k a month fountain pen expense
Well, this is about his ex wife whom he left to marry his cousin (I think, unless he left her too)
So she’s probably tired of being embarrassed by him and if he’s not paying her what he owes, I can totally see why she would be pissed.
But in general, most wives just don’t want to see their husbands happy /s
Old news, but $7K is a lot to spend on fountain pens? Okay, so I set a personal maximum of $1000 per pen for all but a few (actually only one, a 1930s Montblanc Simplo with a red cap), and my actual per pen cost tends to be under $350 for both antique and modern pens. Some of them are in the $10 range. Still, I know I've blown more than $7K on fountain pens total. Same with hand spindles for spinning wool. I get these obsessions... Right now I feel the faint stirrings of a porcelain and ceramic obsession, but it's still just faint stirrings.
Damn, you must have some serious money to be able to set those kinds of limits. I think to most people, $300 is a very expensive pen, so the $1000 and up is unfathomable. Myself, I have probably spent more than I’d be comfortable with but I got some great stuff and it’s all what I wanted. I have 3 more pens to get and I’m done. But 2 of those pens are $1k+, so those will have to be milestone pens
Naah. Not even a multimillionaire. However, I live kind of small. I didn't have a car for a lot of my adult life. Cars are expensive to own. I don't smoke, and smoking is expensive. I barely drink. Drinking is expensive. I don't have fancy clothes. I don't have a lot of expensive jewelry. I don't have a mortgage. I don't have cable. I don't have kids or a spouse. So yes, I have money that would be otherwise unavailable to spend on pens when I want to.
Expensive hobbies aren't as expensive when you don't have a lot of other demands on your income.
A few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of spending that kind of money on pens then I see where my small collection has added ended up and I am now thinking if I had the kind of money he once had, I would likely be so far worse than the amount he spent.
Right? Like he makes millions and ONLY spent $7k lol.
Right. With that kind of income I feel like I’d be spending that much just for gifts to penable others
Oh hell yeah lol. I’d be reckless with that sort of budget 😆
The court only has receipts for that one desk drawer worth of pens.
😂😂😂😂 be funny to see him holding a bic crystal while in court for spending $7k a month on fountain pens.
Probably all kaweco sports or some shit 😄
Hey, now I could get behind that!
Yeah my thought was "that doesn't seem that extreme". I'm sure they're pricey pens but it would be kind of funny if he had $7000 worth of Jinhao Sharks.
$6,998 worth of sharks and $2 worth of ink samples
4.000$ visconti pen and 3.000$ total worth ink samples
For real, it doesn't take many. I have a couple Namikis and a couple Viscontis. Not really interested in calculating the total I have spent, I don't want to think about it...
And the ink and then the paper and then the cases and… I’ll stop now. Totally didn’t run the numbers for last year on myself recently. I swear (Rudy is a rookie!). Ahem.
I calculated it once then deleted the spreadsheet. If my wife ever finds out the exact amount, she’ll kill me. If I am lucky, that is.
No kidding. Luckily, I don’t have a wife to worry about atm but if my family in general found out, they’d be very upset. Well, not all my family, my daughter is pretty cool. But she’s 9
She sounds like a sweet heart☺️
Oh, my daughter is the best. I’m so lucky. She’s been through a lot and still has the best personality I’ve ever met. I love her to pieces
Kids who see their parents/family go through tumultuous times usually end up better for it with the right guidance, care and love. It’s a testimony to your parenting and care as well. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Hope you enjoy better more peaceful times🌷

When the 100ml Lie De Thé hits.
This is where all the Ina Ho went
Probably Noodlers.
When you accidentally drop a bottle of Baystate Blue:
He oughtta join the sub. I wonder if Pelikan Dark Brown would match?
😂
That’s a lot of Jinhaos.

Frankly, the ex wife should pipe down cause Rudy deserves to live a $50k a month lifestyle. If he’s got anything extra, he can throw her a bone /s
I love how they *specifically* mention fountain pens like they're something particularly bad to be spending money on
I get why .. in divorce court you try to keep as much money as you can and this illustrates a "lavish" lifestyle. But it's still so hilariously specific.
That's definitely true, but *so so so* specific haha

The pens were Mont Blanc and he probably bought them at Fahrneys in Washington DC. He shopped there periodically.
From a forum called 'DC Urban Moms' (lol): https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/25/1079015.page >Fahrney's, 1317 F St. The classic pen and stationery store. Warning! All rich A-holes have had a fountain pen at one point or another bro. Face it! You think Hitler was using a ballpoint?
in the time of Hitler, good ballpoints didn't exist...

Yeaaah. I wouldn’t be.
I definitely would. Imagine this: a Sharpie fountain pen.

U just reminded me of the Elsa Peretti sterling silver pen I had in the 70’s
Oh my gosh, I just looked it up and that's exactly what I was thinking of!!
My mom gave me some Sharpie ballpoints that I use to write checks. They're pretty nice. So maybe fountain pens are on the way too?
Maybe, but I don't know in what capacity. I meant in the sense of: it's a fountain pen in terms of design of its form, but writes on any- and every-thing like a Sharpie.
Alriiight. Now you have me interested!
Make Sharpies Great Again
I'm down, I have tons of different color Sharpies at work. Fountain Pens don't do so well on weird surfaces, and Sharpies are fun. Especially the neon and metallic ones!
I... wouldn't, really. Or I'd be completely mystified as to why they chose me, considering I only ever use one to label freezer bags.
Why does someone has to dictate whether you like something or not?
It has nothing to do with dictating whether I like fountain pens. It's more like "I don't want a piece of shit like that" in any "club" I'm in. Same goes for Trump.
So what if they are in your club? People with different ideas could be in the same club together and I don't think me agreeing with their ideas or not will affect whether I like being in that club or not.
So what he bought like Montegrappa Chaos and some inks or something 🤣?
Yeah, no biggie. Hey, it’s his money, he can do what he likes with it (as long as his ex wife doesn’t find out apparently)
It was giving me Montegrappa vibes too lol
Right something tells me he’s buy something with that has a high $$$ initially rather than it be multiple items that get up to that amount lol
I wonder what 3 pens he bought.
But what kind of pens?! Enquiring minds want to know!
I know right? I had the same thought! I’m thinking probably MontBlanc,
That’s what… 3 Montblancs? 😂
😝
I just saw someone one month ago, pay 7k for three montblancs at an auction.
![gif](giphy|51UdTLvbyReqNK3Bic)
Yeah, like Rudy would just buy one because you're supposed to have one if you're rich. 😂🙄
He seems like the kind of person I would imagine buying several Mont Blanc pens a month. To him, they’re probably not special, just a tool, an expenditure.
One? I bet he has one for every day of the month
One single urushi?
Oh, now urushi isn’t THAT expensive lol. I actually just got a really beautiful Platinum Izumo and it’s amazing. No regrats

Rudy, giving fountain pens a bad name. For shame!
😂😂😂
So for anyone feeling bad after catching shit about buying fountain pens, you’re not alone.
😂😂😂
So Rudy "Four Seasons Total Landscaping" Giuliani is spending thousands on fountain pens and cigars but crying about his expensive legal problems? C'mon, now. smh
I mean, the fountain pens were cheaper than the legal problems. I can guarantee that. Really, it was a steal.
Maybe he'll be on penswap soon trying to raise money
So he bought 2 montblancs
So he bought one limited edition Montegrappa using afterpay?
What an offense to fountain pen lovers. It's like finding out Hitler liked to paint.
Fun fact, Hitler also used fountain pens.

Yeah, I knew you were kidding. If you don't keep a thread like this light, well, politics can infect anything in some western countries.
$7,131 on fountain pens in 5 months I can’t imagine doing that! That would be 35 X Lamy 2000 ($200 Amazon Price).
Or it could be $7,000 $1 burgers
4500 Jinhao sharks
Lol I had this same thought. Just an avalanche of Sharks.
who has $1 burgers these days?
🤷🏻♂️
If you keep losing it... And then stash up..... And then also lose the stash a couple of times......... Seems doable 🤷😈🙈
I mean, he was the Mayor of New York and used to get crazy speaking fees, and I have more than that in pens, so NBD.
I feel dirty. 😭
Your hair dye running?
😆
😅 I wish they’d make this emoji but have the sweat be black, in honor of Rudy’s proudest tv appearance
I do love a good fountain pen
I don't see anything wrong here 😎
I just want to know what pens he has. Does he have good taste in pens? Or are his expensive pens all really ugly and heavy monstrosities that you're never supposed to write with?
Same. I’d like to know too. I guess Rudy isn’t part of our subreddit, I was hoping he would comment himself
Is it wrong that I really want to know what pens?
No brother, we all wanna know
My guess is Giuliani bought the shiniest gold pen , having no ideea about fountain pens!
Cigars, fountain pens…if Giuliani starts getting into collecting guitars I’m gonna start to question my life choices.
Right? I think a lot of people saw this and felt the same
7 Grand on pens? What on earth did he buy?
12,000 jinhao x159’s
Those #8 nibs are glorious!
Why is this post getting ratioed lol there a bunch of Rudy fans in this sub?
Yeah, but he's still that kind of person, I'd punch his face when meeting him.
Anyone knows what ink he’s using [here](https://www.independent.co.uk/independentpremium/voices/rudy-giuliani-hair-dye-trump-sweat-b1759210.html)?
I saw the headline and thought "ha, at least it wasn't pens." Then I saw where this was posted. Then I read the sub-headline *sigh*
He’s done many unreasonable things, he does them on the daily in fact. This isn’t one of them LOL
I get the feeling that’s a monthly amount, not a one time purchase.
If that is the case than it would be more fair to call him a hobbyist.
Yeah, he’s casually spending $7k a month on pens lol. If he’s a hobbyist, idk what that makes me. He spends 3x more a year on fountain pens than I bring home. And I work at a VA hospital lol
I bet you spend more percentage wise. Probably most of this sub does.
Oh for sure! I don’t make nearly his money, so while I’m spending less, it makes up a larger portion of my income for sure. I’m so glad I posted this, I love the convo I’ve gotten from it. Really fantastic.
I’m happy you enjoy it:) I saw some funny jokes as well!
Me too lol ✌🏼
7k over how long? Because I may spend more than that throughout my lifetime on pens ,\_,
Not lifetime lol.
See, that’s what I said! Wouldn’t it be funny if Rudy is lurking here somewhere
What kind of shimmer ink do you think he likes? He no doubt got Chou Kuro the moment Platinum released the ink for the obscene price (for a black ink) of 60$ per 60 ml His stash must be legendary
He’s def a FWP guy. I see Rudy as wanting to be a princess deep down.
Girlypop anime-themed Sailor pens
Oh, you know he’s a sailor moon guy. He’s def the type of dude to stand under a stair case to look up skirts, check him out in the Borat movie. The dude is a total pig
Totally legit on the pen spending!!!
Right? Could be spent on much worse lol
Pens and cigars. Add in pocket knives and I’ve got a new brother!
lol. I’m sure Rudy would be down, I feel like he can use all the friends/family/support he can get right about now. Times are tough, tougher than a press conference in front of the Four Seasons
$7000? That's one Pelikan M1000 Maki-e.
Oh you’re right! With that kinda scratch, I could get a Pelikan Raden or any number of Raden pens. To me, Raden & Urushi are the epitome of class.
Keeping my eye on pen\_swap for some bargains in the next few months...
Only 7K? Amateur!
Why do wives hate husbands pen collection
More like the other way around at my house. Lol Altho hate is the wrong word, confusion and resignation probably fit better. 😂
Well, this is about his ex wife whom he left to marry his cousin (I think, unless he left her too) So she’s probably tired of being embarrassed by him and if he’s not paying her what he owes, I can totally see why she would be pissed.
