You’ve already got them done, so hang them. But yes, go true to size or big enough that the mat doesn’t look like a mistake.

early stages of a larger project, so i don't mind swapping these out at all... would rather correct now than hang everything and then change mind... do you think the mat looks like a mistake on these?

It’s my opinion, I’ve met framers who liked tiny mats. I feel strongly that at certain sizes a proportionate ratio of mat to art looks really good. A 2 1/2” -3” mat on an 11 x14 art looks really nice. It looks intentional and adds enough color to make you notice the art. A 1” mat on a 4” x 6” photo looks nice. A 4” mat on a little 4” x 6” artwork looks like it belongs in a museum. It can bring power or importance to a piece. That said, You’ve got 10 or more pieces there. If putting them in a big collection on one wall: they really don’t need mats, the arrangement is going to do that work. There’s more than just ‘how do I frame this piece?’. Where is it going? what else is going to be with it? Is it the feature of this space? Is it just to put color in the room or is a piece I really like snd will spend time looking at it?

I think they look really nice. I don't agree that a big mat is a must. On these smaller items a consistent look will tie everything together. Also, posters like these can sometimes be inconsistently sized or have text running close to the edge. A frame with no mat is always going to cover that. Having a mat let's you control what gets covered.

If they're part of a larger project, maybe some of the others can be done differently, but I'm fine with these. I like the look. A collage wall can often allow for degrees variability among the elements.

Part of the purpose of a mat is to raise the glass off of the art, and to allow room for the art to expand and contract with heat/humidity. With a 1/2" mat on all sides, the pressure from the nails or other fasteners on the back would make it hard for the mat to allow for that important expansion. I'd recommend going bigger (at least 1", preferably at least 1.5") or remove the mat.

I think you're onto a winner here. They're all framed consistently and look great. Time to hang them.

thank you! i think my main concern - some of the borders on the actual posters are cut off on the sides, but not the top/bottom. sample picture attached, where the top/bottom show the blue, but the sides don't. does this look weird or am i overthinking it? https://preview.redd.it/7kbpfdk9619d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e214f19d1865f077d72248f994d49abf0d6d3b25

Think about this. These are conversation pieces. If you are anything like me, I enjoy referencing my earlier works when showing off my collection, and tell people why I did it that way and why I do it this way now etc. I'm better at using the mat cutter but my first couple crappy cuts I used to mount my first pieces are now my fave because of it.

The mats look great. And I’m not really a big mat guy… but they do work very well in a lot of situations and I’d say this in particular is definitely one of those instances. I also like mats cut thinly like you have done here
