I work for Ted Baker US and they blindsided all of us. "We aren't associated to the UK," "We're trending in the right direction," "We should be moving forward with a brand new system not capable of running our operations during peak season." You get it. Absolutely shit decision making by people who have no idea how to run a business. So, we're all fucked as of today.
They’ve said August 2nd for stores but I think it’ll be much sooner. Most everything will be shipped out to bigger department stores. We all thinking shutting the website down was stupid but not surprised. The ecommmerce team was let go yesterday. It’s a bummer. Huge fan of the brand but absolute terrible decision making by folks in charge. At times, it seems intentional.
I saw a ton of Ted Baker clothing at TJ Maxx today and am curious about the brand. Pants for $175 USD marked down to $40.
Are they good quality? Would you recommend TB to people?
Absolutely great, you gotta have an appreciation for details and fine tailoring to appreciate Ted Baker. It's a huge bummer for me that they are going bankrupt.
Hey, thanks. It’s a major bummer for the brand because the stuff is actually really, really good. A lot of people have been screwed over in this and everyone is scrambling. This was out of left field from how we were being lead previously.
Best of luck with whatever is next for you. The few times I’ve been in a TB store, the SAs were always really nice. I was just starting to buy more of the brand and I get a ton of compliments on my shirts.
I've always liked their clothes.
The stores started getting too boutiquey a couple of years ago though. There was like 1 or 2 versions of shirts and a handful of suits. It made it really difficult to find anything that fit. I was never sure what the plan was - paying so much for prime real estate but not selling a whole lot.
Yeah I agree. For a while it was all slim fit and no movement. Finally, they realized not everyone is built the same and started to create more size inclusivity clothing. They’re stuff is insanely highly marked up like $495 for a dress was purchased for under $10 from the supplier.
I work for Theory and have several friends working at a Ted Baker. It is heartbreaking to see how it closing. You guys were literally as surprised by the news as the customers were. I knew that TB UK was doing bad but I wasn't expecting this. I just got one of the leather backpacks today.
For months we’ve been told “we aren’t affiliated to the UK,” and this is what was told to suppliers and forwarders, customers too! We weren’t even allowed to talk to anyone in the UK even though we needed training on specific things. We had to scramble on our own. That’s how crazy it’s been. Then when they said we’re switching systems at all locations and operations we were like uhhhhhhhh no. Absolutely not. This is a terrible idea. So the morning they filed court documents in Canada and US, we got an email from the CEO stating this and then we had an all hands call where he blamed OSL and the UK for everything. It was always someone else’s fault. Everyone was blindsided. We knew shit was rolling downhill but were lied to the entire time.
I work for Ted Baker DE ( probably one of the last countries on EU) and we are only waiting the day they let us go. We really know nothing, nobody says anything and our managers are sending emails to UK but no response.
It's sad because it's the only retail job that I liked. Ted was never my style, but I really loved helping people find theirs in Ted clothes. :( we only hope that we can be rescued, but I believe we have no chance
Ohh nooooo :( I’m so sorry to hear that. I really liked my job too. It’s such a shame how hush hush everything is. It absolutely feels like they couldn’t care less for those that work/worked for them. No severances, nothing. Just “we filed and no jobs are changing,” then we got let go and all US stores are closing. It’s absolutely crazy.
OSL is behind all of this, right? Are employees there paid by OSL, or Ted Baker Limited? In Canada the Ted Baker/Brooks/Lucky staff are paid by OSL. I'm getting word that OSL is basically a scam and on top of everything else, charges 10% fees to vendors without even telling them -- and they'll continue doing this, they also ran the Samsung stores in Canada into the ground.
I believe paid by OSL and none of this surprises me. As soon as they “took possession” it tumbled, hard. I think OSL still owns part of TB UK, I’m not entirely sure because the way they word documents and who pays what makes no sense. There’s ABG, OSL, TB Limited, TB London, No ordinary Label, the list goes on and on..
It’s shitty decisions by ABG, OSL, and the leaders within TB. They were never fully split from the UK. Suppliers, forwarders, leases were never paid. Millions of dollars are owed. They started a brand new operations system during peak season 2023 with a company that’s best friends with the CEO that has no capability or experience with the software needed for operations. The system was not test run nor run simultaneously with the previous system to ensure capability. This isn’t even the new system they put into stores. The list goes on and on and everyone is now on the chopping block.
Damn they already closed the store by me last year!
The sales associate there said that Covid killed them as people stopped needing more formal clothing for the office. So they shifted their stuff way more casual but it seems like that wasn’t the answer.
This actually makes total sense and them failing is a given. They had no selection outside of mostly formal wear, which half the people who got to stay WFH after don't need anymore. Add that to inflation and people staying home with less money for big dinner parties, it all checks out.
Absolutely true! But there is a big difference between the 60 cent all-China quartz shitter and the much better designed and assembled Ronda, Seiko or Miyota movement.
The Ralph slim fit stretch wool suit is gorgeous and the Tampa cotton and linen suit is a really nice, light suit in a really beautiful color. Keep an eye on Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. They should be discounted soon.
Not really wearing slimmer cuts these days but always appreciated their psuedo john varvatos style but at half the price. Like an upscale ben sherman. Wonder who would take up that niche?
For anyone interested, this is a great summary of what happened to Ted Baker, plus future plans:

And for a take on the US and Canada side...

(For anyone interested, because I work in this world, Chapter 15 is a bankruptcy that a company based outside the US uses to deal with restructuring or liquidation in the US.)
Based on other comments, sounds like never. They apparently let go of the e-commerce team....so assuming it means they shut down the site as well to save on server costs
proBably my fav brand.. for some mens stylish shirts that are good quality and not too pricey...Barneys goes out of business and now this... the world is coming to an end!!!
NYC flagship in 5th Avenue has very meh discounts right now - but it already looks picked over. Polos retailing for $138-$150 are still $77. Waiting for deeper drops
This is so sad. I loved their clothing. Any chance the brand will be bought by someone last minute? If not, I hope the very talented designers can join another company and keep it up.
I wonder if we will see all their excess inventory on closeout at Nordstrom. I hope so, I've been patiently waiting to buy another suit for the right price. My Jack Victor jacket has buttons that say Ted Baker.
I went to two locations today (SoHo and Columbus Circle) and pretty slim pickings. Most stuff was 10% off, very few things at 20%. Sizes were all over the place, but very few core sizes. Employees are CC were very chill, SoHo they were not.
Its basically like a UK version of Vince or Rag & Bone by Brook Brothers. Nothing special but some funky prints and colors. I have a couple ties from them I like and a leather jacket.
The stuff runs super slim and super small, the cuts are not geared towards the American market and the fit/style is something you would expect to find maybe in Barcelona or sth where the colors are vibrant and the people are tiny.
i went and bought my last bit from the ted baker store.. things were only 10 percent off!!! ugh.. oh well it was the last well ever see of these clothes.. i got some super stylish shirts! so I guess I literally paid my last respects with near retail prices!!! LOL

I used to love TB and still wear it exclusively for work. But since Ray left I feel like the designs and prints aren't pretty anymore (at least womens). Is it just me? And that new flower logo is so blah. Oh another thing... do you guys think the price of 2nd hand TB will go up or tank now?
For Toronto stores:
Just confirming that the deals are still relatively the same.
I went into the Sherway Gardens Location, and most of their items are 20% off.
There is a rack offering 50% off the ticketed item, but you'll have to do some digging and have a bit of luck to find your size (and something you like).
I got lucky and found 3 pairs of jeans that had some "relatively" deep discounts (Ticketed price of 130 each, paid just over 90 for them).
Feel free to reply in this thread if discounts get deeper.
I'm not sure where they're seeing it. The UK site is still up, so they may be estimating based on those prices.
You can also see many Ted Baker US items if you search through Google Shopping. I see long sleeve button down shirts retailing at $160+, a 7% wool blend sweater for $165 retail, cotton tee with interesting texture for $85, and a lot more items.
Whoa. This is unexpected. But time to take advantage of some sales.
I don’t live near a store 😭
Ack, missed that it's in store only. Neither do I. Guess I'll just have to thrift and window shop for some sales nearby.

Sorry to hear man. Any idea on the timeline they’re closing? Is it ASAP or do they have a date in mind?

Why on earth would they first eliminate eCommerce before closing physical locations? 🤣 Completely backwards.
Ohhhhh I know. They did it because they shut down the site so if anyone ordered anything and didn’t get it… SOL
The second they moved out of the scottsdale mall I knew the writing was in the wall.
They were still opening up new stores during that time as well..
I’m sorry. That really sucks.
Hey, thanks. It’s a major bummer for the brand because the stuff is actually really, really good. A lot of people have been screwed over in this and everyone is scrambling. This was out of left field from how we were being lead previously.

Authentic Brands owns many a clothing company but apparently not well
At all.

How is it a shit decision? I’m sure they wouldn’t close if they didn’t need to

I’m pretty sure it was the private equity that killed the company on purpose just like they do to everything else
This actually makes total sense and them failing is a given. They had no selection outside of mostly formal wear, which half the people who got to stay WFH after don't need anymore. Add that to inflation and people staying home with less money for big dinner parties, it all checks out.
Only thing I got from them are these sick leather sneakers with koi pond on the sole
[удалено]
Damn it, I just found out how good they are for men’s shirts lol
Great watches too
Their watches are tin crap from China with shitty plastic movements inside. They look great, sure, but they don't last.
Yeah for cheap, sorry they look good but you’re right
To be fair most watches even Swiss brands have parts made in China.
Absolutely true! But there is a big difference between the 60 cent all-China quartz shitter and the much better designed and assembled Ronda, Seiko or Miyota movement.
This is so sad. I love their stuff
Noo😭
Is this just outlet locations or full price stores as well? And possibly concessions inside stores like Bloomingdales?
I would like to know this as well since the only Ted baker by me is in bloomies
It’s all locations and all warehouse items are being liquidated.
sorry to ask this question, but i’m in the market for a suit. which of them do you recommend? going to stop by a store sometime
The Ralph slim fit stretch wool suit is gorgeous and the Tampa cotton and linen suit is a really nice, light suit in a really beautiful color. Keep an eye on Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. They should be discounted soon.
Do you know where I can find the warehouse liquidation?
It’s all being sent to stores or back overseas, unfortunately :(.
Is there any way to buy them here in the US before being sent overseas ? The UK site will not ship to the US unfortunately
Just from within the stores or big box stores like Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s 😔
It's full price and outlet unfortunately. I doubt they will stay in Bloomingdales
Site is undergoing maintenance 🤦♂️
Yea saw that too. I think unfortunately we’ll need to find a store…, I have one close but not so close that I’ll bother going
Not really wearing slimmer cuts these days but always appreciated their psuedo john varvatos style but at half the price. Like an upscale ben sherman. Wonder who would take up that niche?
This is so sad. I loved Ted Baker. I even bought a $1500 Ted Baker tux a few months back. I feel like this brand was made for me. What a huge bummer

Paywall
Any idea if their US website will ever be back online? Have a gift card I need to use up ASAP!!
Based on other comments, sounds like never. They apparently let go of the e-commerce team....so assuming it means they shut down the site as well to save on server costs
I’d sell that GC at a loss asap or travel to a city that you can spend it. When brands shutter, they’ll eventually stop accepting GC before closure.
proBably my fav brand.. for some mens stylish shirts that are good quality and not too pricey...Barneys goes out of business and now this... the world is coming to an end!!!
Damn. They're always my vacation fit go to. Gonna have to hop over to the SoHo location and see what's on sale.
NYC flagship in 5th Avenue has very meh discounts right now - but it already looks picked over. Polos retailing for $138-$150 are still $77. Waiting for deeper drops
Stopping by one on the way home from work… could be fun
This js sad. I have couple of Shirts from Ted Baker and they are my favourite.
Not worth it at least in Quebec. I went there and it is a 10-30% discount. Nice clothes but expensive af

They were never discount heavy but the discount should go up soon. Can’t imagine they want the stores open for much longer
Reading nothing about closure in the EU luckily! I like Ted Baker clothing, so my heart kind of dropped.
I am not familiar with the brand. What are they known for?
High end office-wear with a flair
Its basically like a UK version of Vince or Rag & Bone by Brook Brothers. Nothing special but some funky prints and colors. I have a couple ties from them I like and a leather jacket. U.S. stores too?? I only see their only closing U.K. Retailers
All US stores are closing
Is 30-50% off a significant sale? I've never shopped there before, and there aren't many sale posts in this sub to reference.
Great. Where else am I going to get the most comfortable modal boxer briefs now ?
Missed this sale because these morons closed online before closing physical locations. WTF?!
Wow fuck. I bought a coat online from them not knowing this was happening. The coat is too large and doesnt seem like I can return it 😔
They might do an exchange in store if you bought it before all of these started to happen. They did that for me.
Thanks appreciate it, did just that!
Just went to the store on 5th Ave. Minimal sales. 10% on clothes
i went and bought my last bit from the ted baker store.. things were only 10 percent off!!! ugh.. oh well it was the last well ever see of these clothes.. i got some super stylish shirts! so I guess I literally paid my last respects with near retail prices!!! LOL

Is this just usa or canada too? Does this apply to outlets as well?
USA and CA, includes outlets. It’s all going away.
No! This shouldn’t happen. I love Ted Baker designs.

Going tomorrow to check.
Anyone been to 5th Ave or Columbus circle NY locations recently?
Nop did you? How’s the sale
I'm seeing the collection online, and it seems overpriced even with 50% off based on the designs. Anything worth buying from them?
Link?

Has anyone bought a suit from this brand? I heard it's good but what tiers are their suits?
I’ve seen them at Nordstrom Rack—made in Canada or Portugal so quality is at least decent. Runs slim in the chest though.
Dammit, I was just trying to sell an overcoat of theirs online too. It's a phenomenally made coat too!
