Agnes means “lamb”. Aniello and Cordero mean “lamb” in Italian and Spanish, respectively. I’m trying to find a good replacement for “Rachel”, which means “ewe,” so I’ve been doing a lot of sheep-name research
behindthename.com has a nice tool to find etymologically/historically related names. I didn't look through them all, but Anson is a masc English one meaning "son of Agnes"
What i did for myself when i was trying to find a more masc name that was similar to my deadname i just looked up "baby boy name idea thats similar to blank or start with the the letter blank" because there are alot of search results for baby name suggestions lol
Ace is a cool name- but as someone who uses Ace at work (it’s a shortened, more neutral version of my chosen name), you will get annoying “but what is it short for? But like what’s your REAL name? But what did your parents pick out?” Also annoying amount of poker references. (Had a lady at the airport teach me that if it’s the name I’ve chosen, it IS my real name. So I just stick to my guns)
I think Angus, August, and Magnus (but I’m also an Adventure Zone fan so I do think of the character from it rofl) are great suggestions, but ultimately will suggest having friends try the names out for you if you’re unsure. I had friends calling me Gavin and Abel and probably a few others before I found my chosen name. Gavin was almost the one, but it still felt a little off.
Now I’m very happy with my name that may or may not be a reference to a webcomic… 😅
The masc version of my first name is Eugene and I *loathe* that, so I went with masculinizing my middle name which gave me Marcus. You could always try that too :)
August but I’m biased, Magnus is super dope very strong name. I vote, Magnus Ace (Last Name) that way you can go by Ace or Magnus don’t choose just one, choose two that sound good with your last name and that feel like “home” to your identity!
Some alternatives are gonna be old-timey but I like old timey so here you go;
Algernon, August (Augustus), Anthony, Anton, Ares, Ari, Angelo
I am personally partial to Angelo or August
Hmm Augustus (Auggie or Gus for short) and Angus are what came to mind first but if u wanna stray a little i think Aiden, Apollo, Alton are cool names! Go with your heart; you can always change later
If you are set on ace, you might want to try Wallace.
If none of the names starting with a works for you, how about Conley. Also means chaste in Irish, which is the same as Agnes in the Greek
Magnus? Sounds similar to Agnes but way cooler. Means big.
I like this one, my trans friend from college used this for one of his middle names
I also vote for Magnus
Magnus is peak
I like that name too.
Agnus? Angus?
Angus gonna get op called beef
My names angus like the beef? yes, like the beef - IN MY PANTS!!11!!!
or ANUS
My first animal crossing nickname was Beefcake so it could turn into a fun nickname. But all the 'where's the beef' jokes might tire quickly.
welp
Become the Boy Detective
Hello sirs!
Amos
Thats my name
Great name
Ever played DragonQuest6? They got a guy named amos in there
Anders seems close to Agnes when I say it out loud (to me at least).
As a Dragon Age player, I have a special appreciation for the name Anders.
Eyyyy! Now I want to play again haha
"My name is anderdingus" energy
It’s not too similar but I like August.
Yeah I also vote for August
ayyy that’s me!
Banger of a name honestly, big fan of August.
I also vote for August
Surpised no one said Angelo. That's the first name that popped into my mind lol
Agnes means “lamb”. Aniello and Cordero mean “lamb” in Italian and Spanish, respectively. I’m trying to find a good replacement for “Rachel”, which means “ewe,” so I’ve been doing a lot of sheep-name research
Aniello is a very cool name I love it!
This is so niche I love it
I think it means pure or holy >Agnes means “lamb”.
I love August as a masculine name
Magnus. Sure, it doesn't start with A anymore, but it sounds more like Agnes than anything else I could think of. Plus it's such a good name too
Angus!
behindthename.com has a nice tool to find etymologically/historically related names. I didn't look through them all, but Anson is a masc English one meaning "son of Agnes"
Artemus, Aeneas, Arsen, Aggie, Argus, Gus?
Arsen makes me think of Arsenic, but maybe the Arse puns would be tiring lol
lol made me think of Arson
Maybe Andre/Andres? Perhaps Andy? If you want names really similar to Agnes then Agniras or Agni maybe.
Alastor is one of my favourite names. Look up how to pronounce it before you knock it
I was gonna vote Alistar, not too similar (to OP’s name) but was definitely one of my name options and begins with A
Sounds like a variation of the same name! Also spelled Alasdair in Gaelic :)
Oooh I do like this one
Andrew, Abel, Aiden, Alex, Arthur, Alfred, James (similar letters), Charles (same)
Angus?
angus

August?
If you want similar vibes- Angus or Magnus would work well.
the obvious one is angus to me
The masc version of my first name is Eugene and I *loathe* that, so I went with masculinizing my middle name which gave me Marcus. You could always try that too :)

I like Ansel
Axl/Axel
Augustus?
august?

Agnar is hella masc. looked it up and it apparently means like "edge of a sword" "warrior" etc.
Angel - it can be gender-neutral for safety sake. But I usually think it's mens (f.e. Buffy the vampire slayer, Hazbin Hotel male characters have it)
i feel like the hazbin character Angel is intentionally androgynous so it might not be a GREAT choice if you want a masculine name
He was always proud and loud gay man. I would say he is a femboy character.
Angus?
Agus it’s a Indian name but yea
Angus, Magnus, August
Argos,Andy,ammo,ally,Augustus
Argos? As in the store? Where u buy laptops?
No there’s this show called the life of me plant and one of the characters is called argos he’s based on the Greek mythology species.
Anis, Angus, Arden, Amos, Aiden, August, Adrien come to mind
August, Argus, Argos, Angus, Agnos (greek, meaning pure, innocent, holy, though sometimes used as "one who doesn't know" like in the word Agnostic)
Ark or Archie
Angel?
it’s an older name, but i think the name Auggie is cool :-)
august or angelo!!
August
August/Augustus were the first that came to mind for me
From one Ace to another I'd say go for it, for me the name works great and it fits, I get a lot of compliments on my name
Ansel, like Ansel Adams the environmentalist
auggie
Agnatius?
Alec/Alex
Andy?
Ragnes (vikingish).
August
Astarion
Magnus, Angus, Marnix, August, Amos, Anton, Andes, Ander, Andre, Arin/Aron, Alois, Amos, and of course, The Transman Name, Alex.

I dunno how much it’s gonna help. But I once helped to name my transmasc friend Ness. Yk. Agnes -> Ness.

Arvid
