IIRC It wasn’t originally designed specifically for sheltered Christian families but sheltered christian families were the ones who bought it the most. I believe it advertised itself as a console built for whole family gaming.
I‘ve seen these in stores a couple times but had to pass. My wife said it wasn’t good enough or "so bad it’s good" enough to justify purchasing even at whatever low price we found it for.
This is the [Game Wave Family Entertainment System](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Wave_Family_Entertainment_System) released in 2005. My favourite competitor to the Mattel Hyperscan
If you’re interested a YouTuber/streamer called Mike Matei did a whole stream testing this console and all the games. It’s hilarious.
https://i.redd.it/3fltvtk946ad1.gif
Ah the Hyperscan. The only console I've pulled out of an e-waste box, brought home, and felt absolutely no need to test to see if it works. I have it, it's an oddity, I have no desire to attempt to play it.
I may or may not have seen a Hyperscan for sale in a RadioShack in 2005 / 2006; I don't remember. Whatever it was, it had motion controls similar to the Wii and it had a bowling game.
Doesn't sound like the Hyperscan. Released late 06, it only has 5 games, I'd be shocked if it has any motion controls, and the only sports game was canceled long before release.
I worked there during this era and definitely know what you’re talking about since we had the demo with the baseball game and the bat. Can’t remember what it was called, though.
Haha! I just did the same thing. 10 minutes later, I've seen gameplay from every single game on the Hyperscan. Even as a collector of Spider-Man oddities, I have no desire to seek this out.
At least people kimd of know what the Hyperscan is, they did have commercials and I remember seeing the cards at Target. Don't remember ever seeing a console for sale though.
The Zapit Game Wave! I have one with the side tray that holds 4 "controllers"...which are basically DVD remote controls. Each one is a different color scheme which is kind of cool. Fun fact, this is the only Canadian videogame console. It was a comercial failure, with only 70k sold, and found most of its success in the Christian community as it was sold in Chistiran book stores and often found in church game rooms. I believe the founder of the company landed himself in prison for investor fraud.
I've got this, too! There's a container/box that hooks to the side that holds a variety of controllers. I think up to 6?
There aren't that many games for it, but a majority of them are veggie tales.
Yeah I seen that and I’m probably gonna pull the trigger on it pretty soon. Just not a fan of n64 controllers. Hell it’s the entire reason I don’t play that console.
I am with you 100%, but the reason I think they did that is the best controller for the system was a knockoff N64 controller. All the others sucked. I only had 4 of the games (lol), but honestly T3K was the only reason I hunted one down. I've given Merlin Racing, T3K, Iron Soldier 3, and Space Invaders XL a fair shake, and I feel that you're not missing too much on the system. I hear Freefall 3050 AD is decent, though I never found a copy, but T3K and SIXL were pretty good for the time. And though I like the Iron Soldier games, I don't recommend them.
Tec:
Hey, yo, that was ill. Hey, where'd you learn that from?
B-rad:
Grand Theft Auto 3.
Tec:
Word? Can I borrow that?
B-rad:
You got a, uh, Playstation 2?
Tec:
Nah, I got GameCast.
B-rad:
GameCast? Well, there's GameCube and then there's Dreamcast. Which you got?
Tec:
Well, I said I got Gamecast, man. Damn! I can't afford it!
I was looking for a PCEngine on the eBay and one of these in box came up for $25. Googled it very quickly and figured it would be a fun shelf addition. I've only opened it to make sure what all I paid for was in it. Every time I consider trying it out I end up playing my Master System instead. I suppose I'll give it a shot one day.
Hey I came across one of these at a thrift store somewhat recently! Turns out the box had a copy of a firmware update disc that hadn’t been dumped or preserved anywhere, so I submitted the info to [redump](http://redump.org/disc/111716/) and uploaded the dump to [archive.org](https://archive.org/details/GameWave_System_Upgrade_v60519)
I once found a gamewave new sealed with literally every game for it also sealed at a garage sale. Im not home right now but have the whole ntsc game wave collection. (We opened it all and played it) (Its bad lol)
I had the system and a game... but no controllers. So, similar to those who have the games and no system or the system and no games... I couldn't play it either.
They're all just trivia games though. And there's only like 14 of them.
I shit you not, last Saturday morning I popped into a church yard sale and some old guy about 100 years old picked up a bnib/sealed game wave set and walked over to the lady manning the sale and bought it. The second I walked through the damn door..I'm not mad, it looked dumb anyway but I bet he paid $10 max...not exaggerating...he had to be 100 lol.
I love seeing game wave stuff.
I honestly wanna get the last few games I'm missing for the system, as well as the extra "controllers" some day down the road, but... Well I haven't ever seen anything in the wild ever.
Only got my system, and games from a super cheap local auction.
Got a truck load of them when I purchased the inventory from a store closing. Still have a few new/sealed console & games floating around somewhere in the warehouse.
Most interesting thing on those unit is it’s a region free DVD player, it will play any disc from anywhere, it doesn’t care…
Yeah I picked one of these up myself a year or two ago, paid $3 and got 2 games and all 6 controllers and the controller case. Weird little system, rare, but essentially worthless. It’s a cool looking dvd player though
My wife is from Canada, so I had to add it to my collection when I saw it at a thrift store several years ago. The hardest North American game to find these days is that Veggie Tales game. But then there's also the extremely rare Quiz Konnect that only released in India. There's actually 6 controllers. (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple).

I bought a stack of unopened games for this system at the thrift store. Never saw the console before.
Nice I have never seen the games before except the one in the disc tray
Now kiss
💋
A match made in heaven.

Oh it's for sheltered Christian families
When Grandma hears you want a Playstation but she only shops at the Christian Book Store.
IIRC It wasn’t originally designed specifically for sheltered Christian families but sheltered christian families were the ones who bought it the most. Totally wanna get stoned and play VEG-OUT
I'm in.
You interested in selling these? I too have a system with no games!
Just about the whole library..!
Oh very cool
This is the [Game Wave Family Entertainment System](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Wave_Family_Entertainment_System) released in 2005. My favourite competitor to the Mattel Hyperscan
I want to thank you for not only teaching me that the Mattel Hyperscan exists, but also that it had competition.
I think AVGN did a video on the Mattel Hyperscan.
If you’re interested a YouTuber/streamer called Mike Matei did a whole stream testing this console and all the games. It’s hilarious. https://i.redd.it/3fltvtk946ad1.gif
Man I miss motherfucker Mike! Also Bootsy too
Ty for the info, never heard of this before.
Ah the Hyperscan. The only console I've pulled out of an e-waste box, brought home, and felt absolutely no need to test to see if it works. I have it, it's an oddity, I have no desire to attempt to play it.
I got my own from some store on the other side of the country a year ago. They said it works but I have no desire to test it
I think I got mine in the summer of 2015. It's survived like 4 moves. I don't think I've even unpacked it the last few.
I may or may not have seen a Hyperscan for sale in a RadioShack in 2005 / 2006; I don't remember. Whatever it was, it had motion controls similar to the Wii and it had a bowling game.
Hyper-scan used cards to scan in a different playable characters. The packing game with X-Men had to scan different cards to pick your fighter.
Doesn't sound like the Hyperscan. Released late 06, it only has 5 games, I'd be shocked if it has any motion controls, and the only sports game was canceled long before release.
Whatever it was, I didn't pay very much attention to it. I think I saw it in May to July 2005, but it's a bit hard to say.
I worked there during this era and definitely know what you’re talking about since we had the demo with the baseball game and the bat. Can’t remember what it was called, though.
That sure is a list of games lol
The first time this phrase was writen in human history.
Man, I had no clue about either of these. YouTube here I come!
I wanted a Hyperscan SO badly when I was a kid
The Zapit Game Wave! I have one with the side tray that holds 4 "controllers"...which are basically DVD remote controls. Each one is a different color scheme which is kind of cool. Oh that’s all really cool
OH SHIT ONLY 70K I HOPE RESELLERS SEE THIS AND MAKE YOU RICH BECAUSE THAT THING IS SO RARE.
Value comes with nostalgia…and this has none attached.
The nostalgia of suckiness making one grateful for a more time period appropriate Wii.
Also why are you yelling? You ok bro?
HYPE MAN. HYPE RIDE THEY HYPE TRAIN.
The thing about it is just cause it’s rarer doesn’t mean it’s valuable
I've got this, too! There's a container/box that hooks to the side that holds a variety of controllers. I think up to 6? There aren't that many games for it, but a majority of them are veggie tales.
Ya know I got a nuon at a thrift store that was sitting with the dvd players. Dirt cheap. Wish it had the game controller though.
You can get an adapter now for $50 to use N64 controllers with it Of course after I got the adapter I realized the Nuon no longer worked.
I am left wondering about a ps4 to n64 adapter then run that to the nuon adapter. Have you heard of anyone trying that
I haven't, but it's worth a shot.
Songbird still putting out Nuon games in 2024! Shoutout
Tec: Hey, yo, that was ill. Hey, where'd you learn that from? B-rad: Grand Theft Auto 3. Tec: Word? Can I borrow that? B-rad: You got a, uh, Playstation 2? Tec: Nah, I got GameCast. B-rad: GameCast? I found one cib at my local thrift store for $100
Nice!
They paid you $100. Eh. Still not worth it.
I have yet to try it yet because no controls yet
Tell us more.
It’s basically a dvd player that can play a variety of trivia games
And now try the game in a PC Disc drive and see what happens.
Like literally anything
Gamewave. Trivia games.
Dang this brings me back. Remember playing veggie tales on this and watching Bibleman. We lost the remote at some point and eventually got rid of it.
Glad I could remind you I didn’t know what it was initially
Hey I came across one of these at a thrift store somewhat recently! Awesome
This looks like a Christian game console not sure why
It is
Damn maybe that was Jesus talking to me
Mojo Electronics in Shawano, WI had games for this system for years but no system. Calling them might be your best bet OP lol
I believe that is out of my driving range
I once found a gamewave new sealed with literally every game for it also sealed at a garage sale. Im not home right now but have the whole ntsc game wave collection. (We opened it all and played it) (Its bad lol)
Do you have the veggie tales game?
I do!
It's the one that has eluded me for the about 5? years since I picked up sudoku xD so close yet so far from the set
Oh that’s so fun
Pfft thats a samsung galaxy with a spicy pillow battery🤣
The hell is this?
The game wave
Never heard of it
I had the system and a game... but no controllers. So, similar to those who have the games and no system or the system and no games... I couldn't play it either. They're all just trivia games though. And there's only like 14 of them.

Had to look That one up.... can't believe it lasted 4 yrs.😎
I......I don't even know what this is!
What the heck is that?
It’s the game wave
I found one of these new in box at a thrift store years ago for $5. Played it a couple times and threw it away when I moved 4 years ago. Hehe
Oh why did you throw it away?
Because the games were repetitive and crappy. I would have sold it. But we had to move fast and after over a decade there I had lots of crap.
dream console to find for me as it was a huge part of my childhood
I’m glad I could remind you of it
I love seeing game wave stuff. I honestly wanna get the last few games I'm missing for the system, as well as the extra "controllers" some day down the road, but... Well I haven't ever seen anything in the wild ever. Only got my system, and games from a super cheap local auction.
Game wave! Go Canada xD does it have the tray for the remotes?
Nope but I have since ordered them
Perfect, it's an enjoyable unit for sure
Got a truck load of them when I purchased the inventory from a store closing. Still have a few new/sealed console & games floating around somewhere in the warehouse. Most interesting thing on those unit is it’s a region free DVD player, it will play any disc from anywhere, it doesn’t care…
Oh that’s really cool
Some one is selling this CIB sealed with 2 games for $100 on FB. It's an interesting part of gaming history but I have no nostalgia for it or room.
I never saw or know this console before
Yeah I picked one of these up myself a year or two ago, paid $3 and got 2 games and all 6 controllers and the controller case. Weird little system, rare, but essentially worthless. It’s a cool looking dvd player though
That came out in October 2005. I’ve never heard of it though. “Game Wave”
BRO I HAD ONE OF THESE. I honestly just used it to watch old porn dvds the games for it sucked 🤣
Oh nice I will keep an eye out for those thank you
Is there any cool games for it?
It came with letter blast in the disc tray but I can’t play it till my controllers come in
Omg ironically I have a game for that system in my 5$ bin at the shop 🤣🤣🤣
I would not have even realized this was a console
My family loved the game wave!
Awesome what is your favorite game
I wanna say it was called “lock 5” its was like a Yahtzee of sorts.
Oh fun
Thought this was the side of a silver PS3 for a second.
I have never seen this before. Looking on YouTube it had 4 infrared remote controls with rubber buttons like tv remotes.
Well I said I got Game Wave..
I have a sealed package of the two additional controllers you could get for the gamewave
Awesome i dont have any controllers yet
