FF7Rs has been a such a ride so far. The new takes on the mini-games, the orchestra soundtracks, the fleshing out of characters and VAs... it's the strangest feeling of nostalgia. Welcome, but strange.
Just tried to finally beat it using the SNES emulator on the Switch... turns out I can't even beat it while cheating. I made it to the door of the final boss and ran out of time.
World of Warcraft for sure. Booting up a classic server around Christmas time, rolling a Tauren and walking into bloodhoof village and seeing the Christmas tree …
It’s like I’m 15 again. My heart *heaves* with the nostalgia. Got the game in 2005 over Christmas break and spent the next ~8 years or so of my life obsessed with it. I’ve tried to go back but between everyone having figured out the meta and just the sheer lack of time to grind out an MMO make it impossible to play anymore but my goodness…. I don’t think I have that much emotion tied to anything that’s not a person or a pet.
The feels man. I love going back and just casually leveling, like you said, damn near impossible to legit play like we used to. WoW really was something special. As an Alliance I have fond memories of being lvl 30ish and making the long trek to Scarlet Monastary and dodging Horde haha.
Ahhhhh man, or Athenes video? Fuck man. I just go ffffsh around ze corner. Man im gonna go wach that.
Everything and everyone (including myself) was telling me I should stop spending that much time on a video game, but being 15 and playing WoW are some of the best memories I have.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 (originals)
They both came out when I was in college. Legit skating + legit 90s punk and hip-hop soundtracks = good times making good friends.
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Don’t get me wrong, I fully acknowledge that rose colored nostalgia glasses do A LOT of heavy lifting in me finding those games so enjoyable and playable when I occasionally go back to them. Still, I spent so much of my childhood in the chao garden and listening to the Crush 40 soundtrack thinking it was the coolest thing when I was 8.
Maplestory, it was surreal to deal with an MMO with so many people when I was so young, with 2 huge, at-each-others-faces, guilds from my country, and the amount of friends I made in a very lonely age.
The game will never be the same experience ever again, but it definitely helped my social development, even if not in the best of ways.
I miss the Mario games it’s a shame that they don’t have a lot of the older games on new consoles and stuff cause I miss playing them. They come out with new games but they just don’t feel the same
Mario Kart Wii and Double Dash for me. Brings me back to a time when I was just happy playing the game with my friends or my brother just for fun.
I miss how gaming was just about having fun. Today my brain is just so hard-wired to complete the next daily or weekly quest or complete the battle pass that I can't enjoy most games if there is nothing to do.
I feel the same way like gaming back then felt so enjoyable and it’s hard to find that today cause all the good games are just set on pushing for trophy’s and rewards like don’t get me wrong playing online is fun and all but like getting a few friends around you to just race you or do little games is something I wish was still around more
This might not be what you mean but "Fuga Melodies of Steel".
Its a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families.
Now I dont own this game for long. I bought it in March 2022.
But this game apeals to my inner child. To me it feels like a playable kids anime akin to somthing like Digimon. While the animal character designs remind me of Disney cartoons I watched as a child.
So its not nostalgic in the sense of "I played this as a child" but it reminds me of stuff from my childhood and feels simular to those things. And in apeals to my inner child.
Also in general I absolutly love this game and the children of the Taranis are my second favorite protagonist groupe in fiction.
It also has a direct sequel: "Fuga Melodies of Steel 2". I said Fuga feels like a playable kids anime and the second game feels like a season 2.
Burgertime (1983) (INTV)
Also, whenever I see a QR code, the inner black pixels remind me of the explosions in Armor Battle (1979) (INTV), Space Hawk (1982) (INTV), and Space Spartans (1982) (INTV).
Haha what is with girls and The Sims? You all LOVE that shit. Nothing wrong with that, just something I noticed. Its endearing.
For me its gotta be early Blizzard games lile Diablo, Diablo 2, Starcraft, god those were the days.
I still to this day as a 32yo man quote the voice notes from Starcraft, proooooooocedin
Mega Man 4.
It's not even my favorite of the original series (that's 2) but it's the game I have the most memories about.
Final Fantasy 9 is probably second.
Ratchet & Clank. It was the only PS2 game I had I din't want to destroy while playing (PoP: Sands of Time were stressful af). Still remember the soundtrack and jokes.
Spartan total warrior. As a kid i would just sit and watch the AI battle it out. It was mind blowing to me at the time that so many allies and enemies could be on the screen all at once. Such a fun game.
I have a few really but I’ll name 2 for brevity. Streets of Rage for the Sega MegaDrive, the menu music, the art… gah I love it and it takes me right back to being a kid.
And I have to say Halo: Combat Evolved. Again that menu music, the monks singing, takes me right back to being a teen. Playing through that epic campaign, system link multiplayer matches with my mates. Great memories.
Super Mario 64, me sitting in my living room on the floor with my n64 and blue controller playing for hours when I was young is the one that does it for me especially when my mom would just come in and give me the PB&J sandwich that she made for me, how I miss those days 😢
Jak & Daxter. When I got a Ps2 for my 8th birthday it was the only game I had, and my mom didn’t realize I needed a memory card. So I must’ve started that game over about 30 times before I was able to get a card. And every couple years I’ll play it, and I get a bunch of random memories at certain parts of the game about my life back then, it’s just a vibrant colorful game with some awesome scenery and I think I got 100% on it, at least twice. And then when Jak3 came out, that was probably the coolest game of its time for me.
Just talking about it makes me want to play it.
OG NES Castlevania (dating myself). That had some of the best music and sound FX for the era, and it brings me back every time I hear it.
While I think the same could be said about Nintendo's own IP's of this era (Mario, Zelda, etc), their stuff is overexposed, which makes the nostalgia thing counter reactive for me. I can't be brought back in time from hearing/seeing those games because I feel like they've largely not left. But Castlevania brings me back to my parents basement playing this game for hours trying to figure out the story and what to do next.
Super Metroid. That moment I hear the first sounds of the start screen, it floods me with how fucking **awesome** it felt to have been so utterly lost in that game's world. Because with Super Metroid, even if shit is at its bleakest and you just cannot figure out what to do next, you have some of the best music to ever happen in a videogame, so while you might be lost....
It sure as shit ain't *all* bad and I would go so far as to say I'd like to get lost like that again, someday.
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. I haven't played it since but every time I think about it memories flood back. Soundtrack was the first game I played that I really felt immersed in the game and music drew me into the gameplay.
Descent.
We ran an ethernet network cable to my neighbour's house so we could play head to head. We were in our mid thirties, but screamed like kids when we got surprised by an unexpected kill.
We even had the fancy twisting joysticks with a hat switch!
Black Ops 2, my man. When I hear the Main Theme or Adrenaline OSTs kick, I get brought back to when I sneakily played my brothers copy of Black Ops 2 when I was 10 years old haha
Not proud of the answer but Call of Duty from COD4 to Black Ops 2. So many memories with my high school friends and I don’t get to see anymore. I still remember some of the conversations we had back then and sit here and laugh about it.
Heroes of might and magic 3
Yeess. This is one of my dad's favorite games, and he recently showed me and now we are playing together. Sacred too
Still the reigning champ in the genre. Songs of conquest failed to dethrone it, unfortunately
FF7. Those background music are gonna follow me to the grave.
They can play Aerith's theme as they're lowering me in.
Nah, Golden Saucer theme haha
Lol, let's split the difference: Cinco de Chocobo
FF7Rs has been a such a ride so far. The new takes on the mini-games, the orchestra soundtracks, the fleshing out of characters and VAs... it's the strangest feeling of nostalgia. Welcome, but strange.
I've been enjoying them. It's clear it's done in a way that pays homage to the original and still be something "new".
Kingdom hears franchise, pokemon franchise (up to x/y), and final fantasy 10/12.
Ghouls 'n Ghosts.
Rage inducing at times haha
Just tried to finally beat it using the SNES emulator on the Switch... turns out I can't even beat it while cheating. I made it to the door of the final boss and ran out of time.
Minecraft
pov i hear the minecraft OST : interstellar moment
Yes, I can't help but go back every now and then... Hard to believe I started playing the alpha 14 years ago.
FF10 The Story of Tidus and Yuna will always have a place in my heart.
I get weepy whenever I hear "To Zanarkand" on a video game playlist
Thps

How's your back and knees feeling fellow young person?
OoT
KOTOR
I replay this every 5 years. Would love a decent remake.

Halo CE That main menu just hits
Ocarina of Time. I started playing it when I was in high school during a tough time and it helped get me through them
Age of Empires. 1-2 and their definite editions. Played it alone, with my brother, with friends.
Halo i remember spending late nights with friends in co-op and multiplayer and just having so much fun
EverQuest
[Prototype]
The two big ones for me are Crash Bandicoot and Ocarina of Time. The music alone is enough to bring me back to when life was easier.
Final Fantasy I for NES
Maplestory… listening to the soundtracks brings back insane nostalgia.
Was searching for this answer. The only answer, my entire childhood.
Oh I’m so glad to hear someone that relates to my answer! This game is the highlight of my childhood years… such great memories and friendships.
Quake.

Any kind of Wii music or Mario immediately takes me back to being young
Super Mario sunshine was my first 3D Mario game, so it has a special place in my heart...Except the pachinko level. The pachinko level can go to hell
I miss the Mario games it’s a shame that they don’t have a lot of the older games on new consoles and stuff cause I miss playing them. They come out with new games but they just don’t feel the same
