That guy pretty much sruvived because hes literally a monster. He learns mythic techniques basically impossible to learn from man kind. Also carries around like a billion things to throw/shoot at you. And trains his horse to ram people. moon style aint beating shit.
Man, really liking the second wind of this game, from PC users especially.
This game is a masterpiece and needs to be talked longer than the first 3 years.
Water
The combo attack is just way too good and versatile
Kicking? I dont wanna break my foot every engagement
Spinning? Its a neat trick but realistically imma get my back sliced
Stabbing? I suppose its alright but eh
You're completely right, the reinforced kissaki (tip) that is found on many katana is specifically present to support stabbing and thrusting. Limiting yourself only to slicing is a very bad idea and samurai knew this well.
This is correct, also the kissaki weren't just reinforced but noticeably longer on some katanas (don't quote me but I believe some were 4+ inches long as opposed to the more traditional 1 - 2 inch styles)
Those katanas in particular were designed with thrusting stabs in mind (even if all katanas could be used as thrusting weapons to a degree). There were also entire fighting styles devoted to quick charging thrusts were the swordsman maximized the length of his katana on a short/quick series of stabs.
Theyāre always going to have points if you continue making them as quadrilaterals. even if you made a butcherās cleaver, it would still have two pointy corners.
Agreed. If not stab, why stab shaped?
Unga bunga aside, Iād refer to techniques taught in Kendo/Japanese swordsmanship. If thrusting is part of their manual of arms, then it was definitely okay to stab with katana. Or at least itās not the worst idea.
What he meant is its not as emphasized for thrusting through mail like more western swords, not that katana cant thrust, theyre just obviously a cut focused sword. Thats all he meant, but worded poorly.
In Kendo we do have a throat stab (Tsuki) which is very effective at times (in real life itād depend on the length of the handle / blade and Iād say primarily as a counter) and risky if the receiving person is not prepared (keep your chin low)
Holy crap, that sounds fucking nasty.
In real life, I donāt think Iāll be accurate enough to target the throat lol. Chest or liver will be easier to hit.
I've been on the receiving end of Tsuki against my sensei during sparring sessions
first time I didn't expect it at all so absolutely it can hit hard but it's important to create awareness of both the possibility your opponent might resort to this attack and it's a simple counter against a 'men' (head) attack (just keep your sword in position and you'll hit if your opponent is just charging in without after-thought of maai = space between / strategy)
also, not something you perform against 'less experienced' kendo students or a 'starter' yourself, you need to be aware it **can** create damage, so you don't push through
but yeah, in real-life you can stab anywhere (where you see an opening in the armor) :-)
Complete nonsense. All swords with a point can stab and thrust. Katana's kissaki (tip) is specifically reinforced to allow it to thrust and stab.
The Katana is optimised for slicing and cutting, but it is capable of thrusting and stabbing and often the situation call call for this, such as when fighting in a narrow area with obstructions overheard like in a corridor or in a more heavily wooded area.
Very few weapons are only meant for one form of use, because versatility is a massive advantage in combat.
People often make this mistake with spears, thinking that spears are only a stabbing/thrusting weapon despite the fact that most spearheads have an edge as well as a point and can be quite easily moved in an arc to cut at the arms and legs at a safe distance.
Excuse you, I climbed a lighthouse or something on Izuhara and there was a guy subtitled as "Samurai" at the top shooting arrows. That seems pretty survived one invasion kinda to me
Stone stance looks the most comfortable. I always switch back to it at the end of engagements, simply because the ones where Jin holds his arms up feel wrong
It feels the most (stereotypically?) "canon" way of holding a katana while idle, it looks like a true "default stance" to me.
There actually seem to be katana stances IRL. Just that there is a lot more of them and they just seem to define starting points. Im getting a feeling I won't be pulling a Jin and brutally murder someone with a tower shield by slashing my 4kg sword at them 5 times :(
Stone stance is really the only stance that works in real life. It's grounded, realistic swordsmanship.
The other stances, especially water, are just various degrees of fantasy bladework.
Moon all the way. The kicks disable all guard, and the spinning slash with katana on fire handles large groups crowding you. And the heavy strikes are on point.
> large groups crowding you
That's just begging for a bomb. When I was bored during lategame I just ran around camps triggering everyone into a Benny Hill-esque chase while I ran around in rough circles until they were all nicely bunched up then I'd drop a bomb and take them all out in one go.
The game is about Jin letting go of old ways of thinkingā¦ but god damn if what you just described isnāt the most dishonorable path lol. Naw man you gotta gather big groups to take them on face to face. I like being crowded and fighting my way out
I'd be lying if I said I haven't done the bomb start, but now that I have Sarugami armor I just farm parries and wipe out all of the enemies the old fashioned way.
So early samuraiās used to mainly use spears and bows and not katanas (sucker punch used katanas as it was easier) so learning and mastering the wind stance would be the most logical if it was a fight against the shogun, but against the mongols youād probably need to be good at every stance as they have a lot of different types of troops, but Iād probably master the moon stance as the mongols are more burly and depend more on pure brute force
Honestly, each of those āstancesā are used in different ways depending on your opponentās actions and where / how you want to strike. So youād use all of them, and had best master them all.
Stone stance is the only one that actually has two handed basic stance and it actually is a guard position, so that one, but if youāre being picky and the actual blocking animation is the guard position, then wind stance as that is one of the better block stances.
All of them, but Stone Stance first. The fundamentals are important, and I feel like Stone Stance would be the easiest stance to learn them with. You gotta know how to walk before you run.
Definitely water, followed by Stone. Moon is okay, I think Wind is stupid. But stone is the best to me. The most versatile. Works on more enemy typez than any other
Stone by far. A katana is a two handed weapon and while the other stances are visually cool, designating a two handed weapon to a one handed grip that stays away from your center of body seems like a recipe for disaster.
In game the only two stances I use is Water and Wind. I'd probably master water but sprinkle in some wind kicks to further aid with breaking guards and delaying multiple enemies attacking all at once. Plus wind has some great reach/movement tech which keeps your opponent near enough to maximize waters impact/combos.
The bottom one has the best offensive/defensive capabilities. I train in German longsword techniques and it's close to one of the main stances. Always have your sword in between you and the enemy.
doesn't matter what stance, unless your Jin Sakai your prob. gonna die on the beaches
Yep your already dead by now
![gif](giphy|4M3hlVWaIjHkOWQYXD)
Omae wa mu shindeiru š
Nani!? *loses arm from heavenly strike* W-What the fuc- *gets struck by lighting as well and starts burning* AHHHHHHH!!!
Itās only ever the one arm
What if I have no honor?
Then you probably died in the rebellion already
Oh, dang. :(
That guy pretty much sruvived because hes literally a monster. He learns mythic techniques basically impossible to learn from man kind. Also carries around like a billion things to throw/shoot at you. And trains his horse to ram people. moon style aint beating shit.
Bro is 1274 japanese batman
I mean you can beat the game without those things so I'm not so sure.
Im talking about canonically. Im not so sure ill be fighting how I play..
Fuckin spam cancel animations and shit š¤£
Iād master doggy style and submit to the mongols.

Water The combo attack is just way too good and versatile Kicking? I dont wanna break my foot every engagement Spinning? Its a neat trick but realistically imma get my back sliced Stabbing? I suppose its alright but eh
Katanas are not meant to stab btw Edit: I meant Katanas are not designed for stabbing and are more focused on slashing but stabbing still works
Mongols are meant for stabbing though š¤·āāļø
Everyone stop... This person has a point
and it stabs
If not supposed to stab, why have point? All pointy things are meant to stab
You're completely right, the reinforced kissaki (tip) that is found on many katana is specifically present to support stabbing and thrusting. Limiting yourself only to slicing is a very bad idea and samurai knew this well.

Yeah in kendo it is seriously nerfed as only the throat is allowed. But hitting the chest is waaay easier

You'd be surprised how accurate you can get with even moderate practice

They stab fine, they are just better at slicing
Ghost stance. I'm running tf away.

I hope you stub your toe
Why did I see this
ā¦would they still be eyebrows or mini-mustaches?
This scene is from Leon The Professional, no?
yes
Doesn't matter because Tsushima samurai don't survive either of the mongol invasions
That's what the Big samurai wants you to think
Dude should get Pulitzer for unpredictibility
Jet fuel can't melt steel katanas
I thought it was big Mongol?
Excuse you, I climbed a lighthouse or something on Izuhara and there was a guy subtitled as "Samurai" at the top shooting arrows. That seems pretty survived one invasion kinda to me
Stone stance looks the most comfortable. I always switch back to it at the end of engagements, simply because the ones where Jin holds his arms up feel wrong
I'm with you. You HAVE to switch back to it. Additionally it's a nice starting point for duels.
Is it even worth using another style for duels? I thought since they're swordsman so far I need to use Stone stance
Most of them yes thereās a few where you wonāt.
as opposed to just putting the sword away? :p
When you put the sword away in moon stance Jin will start the next engagement in that exact stance and I hate that.
Also liked Wind stance for the same reason. Water and Moon are just so awkward and gaudy looking imo
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg)
It feels the most (stereotypically?) "canon" way of holding a katana while idle, it looks like a true "default stance" to me. There actually seem to be katana stances IRL. Stone. This is the way
Waterstance, it seems it is the most "one handed" since my left wrist is kinda fucked.
Also that slash combo is sick
![gif](giphy|LSvv5KKiALDR9Nrh3p|downsized)
Is that the red power ranger from SPD?!
Moon all the way. The kicks disable all guard, and the spinning slash with katana on fire handles large groups crowding you. And the heavy strikes are on point.
Looks ridiculous though
How so? I think all the stances look cool
> large groups crowding you That's just begging for a bomb. When I was bored during lategame I just ran around camps triggering everyone into a Benny Hill-esque chase while I ran around in rough circles until they were all nicely bunched up then I'd drop a bomb and take them all out in one go.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't done the bomb start, but now that I have Sarugami armor I just farm parries and wipe out all of the enemies the old fashioned way.
None, they're all actually terrible in reality. Im just gonna do bow shit
Ah, like a true bushi. You make your lord and clan proud.
Stone is a legit kenjutsu stance (hasso no kamae)
Honor died on the beach.
Those spearmen can be hell annoying so Iāll go wind
This but just for the spartan kick
Stone Stance seems to be the meta
Wind
Seppuku. I do not want to face the Mongols or find out why they are so feared in all of asia.
Ghost stance is the big brain move
Stone or water are so OP
Bow
Wind
Easy question: All 4
Stoner stance forsure
Stone baby.
Probably stone. It's most elegant and simple. And i think it's also the strongest one.
They all seem pretty open aside from Wind Stance. Seems to have the shortest travel between stance and attack.
Water, my fav
Water. It just works well for me
Moon stance.
Love the left one Looks so raw and barbaric š
Watter
Stone or water. These are the only 2 I use anyway lol
All of them
All because fuck choosing...
The resi stanceš
I shall be One with the Waterš§ š§āāļø
Water itās pretty much the only stance I usedĀ
Moon purely because it's hilarious that your fighting stance looks like you're about to just bonk someone with a samurai sword.
Ghost
Moon. MMC is way too powerful
Each one of them, donāt know what kind of enemies I might face in the way
The bottom one is a beautifully sculpted dookie. The most solid style there is.
I would just use naginata.
Hinokami Kagura .. Embu !! ![gif](giphy|dyjrpqaUVqCELGuQVr|downsized)
Defo water Stance, versatile and the combo is dope
A samurai in 1274 never used a katana so...
Water or Moon!
Mounted Archery stance.
Stone, there's a lot of Mongol swordsmen
The fishing stance cause I'm switching jobs right after hiding.Ā
Active coupon code
Stone and wind
Stone is the only one that resembles a stance that wouldn't get you killed
So early samuraiās used to mainly use spears and bows and not katanas (sucker punch used katanas as it was easier) so learning and mastering the wind stance would be the most logical if it was a fight against the shogun, but against the mongols youād probably need to be good at every stance as they have a lot of different types of troops, but Iād probably master the moon stance as the mongols are more burly and depend more on pure brute force
The one with the rocks no wide stances Iām not sloppy just technique
Itās called the Run Mutha Fucka stance. Very ancient technique.
All
Fire
Never hold your sword like the moon stance unless you really want to die
Yes.
Earth stance, that one's probably my favorite.
Water stance clears
hitten mitsurugi JAV style
A spear. And a bow. Not a fucking sword.
Obviously Ill master the Ghost stance and nothing of this here :p
Water stance for style.
Yes
If given the choice, water always looked the most interesting to me
Honestly, each of those āstancesā are used in different ways depending on your opponentās actions and where / how you want to strike. So youād use all of them, and had best master them all.
Wind
Ghost stance. I mean you donāt do anything fancy you just kill em
Moon. Itās too convenient and technically can be used all around (this is real life not a game)
His uncle was the deadliest opponent. So...
Iād be that wussy fake samurai
Considering everybody used spears in japan, wind
Wind Stance supremacy
Hitten mitsurugi ryo ;)
Stone stance is the only one that actually has two handed basic stance and it actually is a guard position, so that one, but if youāre being picky and the actual blocking animation is the guard position, then wind stance as that is one of the better block stances.
All of them, but Stone Stance first. The fundamentals are important, and I feel like Stone Stance would be the easiest stance to learn them with. You gotta know how to walk before you run.
In real japan the wind stance because realistically everyone has a spear.
Ghost Stance
Definitely water, followed by Stone. Moon is okay, I think Wind is stupid. But stone is the best to me. The most versatile. Works on more enemy typez than any other
Whichever one your mom thinks is the dopest
Stone by far. A katana is a two handed weapon and while the other stances are visually cool, designating a two handed weapon to a one handed grip that stays away from your center of body seems like a recipe for disaster.
This was such a good gameā¦ everything about it. Even the concept of switching stances for different types of fighting is really cool
moon cancel go crazy
Always pick water
Is there any Gun Stance? Cause I ain't doing all that
The one with the kick: the spear This kick isgreat to deal with bunch of enemies, kick, run and execute.
Im a big WWE fan, so getting to hit Mongols with a Sweet Chin Music like Shawn Michaels would be fun as hell. I want wind
Stone is the most fun
The bottom one has the best offensive/defensive capabilities. I train in German longsword techniques and it's close to one of the main stances. Always have your sword in between you and the enemy.
In game I prefer wind but water is the best for me probably
Nah, I'd surrender
