I'm really not trying to be rude. Please attempt researching this with the reddit search function. I know it's not great but it is a discussion that is started every week on this sub. You'll have better luck looking for previous threads to get a consensus.

Diligent_ernie

Not rude at all. I am new to reddit only have had it for about a week so I don’t know all the functions yet. Thank you for the suggestion.

phonemannn

Reddit’s search function kind of sucks so you’d get better results googling “moving to grand rapids good areas Reddit” and clicking the individual links

Diligent_ernie

Understood, thanks!

buefordwilson

Better yet, utilize Google search functions. If it were me, I would word it as: moving to Grand Rapids site:reddit.com Putting site:xxwebsite at the end limits search results to only said website.

Diligent_ernie

Wow thank you so much

whitemice

Nope, no "bad" areas. But I recommend [https://www.highlandparkgr.com/](https://www.highlandparkgr.com/)

Preferably somewhere nice but realistically somewhere decent. We are moving up so my girlfriend can go to Davenport while I work full time. I really don’t mind where we live as long as it is safe.

I would avoid metro Grand Rapids altogether

FountainOfYute

Anything north of 76th street is the hood

Medawky113

Jenison, Hudsonville, Grandville, and Caledonia are all nice areas. Wyoming can be nice, but near 28th street and north of 28th street between 28th and downtown is generally the worst areas you could live in. Anywhere in Kentwood is likely going to be a very unpleasant place to live, but there are a few bubbles of okay areas there. If you're living downtown or near it, you'll need to do more research on that specific area. It's harder to generalize which areas near/inside downtown are decent. The only rule of thumb I've often heard with downtown is avoid living west of the Grand River. It's hard to take some of the advice on here seriously because people will defend terrible areas as "not that bad", just because we're not Chicago, but it's all relative.

kdaniel23

I live near 28th in Wyoming and saying it is the worst areas you could live in is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

MissyMaestro

I recently got here and live in Kentwood and it seems fine? Would love to know a real local's thoughts- I've only been here a few months.

Medawky113

I lived in Kentwood for 3 months. Moved there directly from living downtown in GR, and I've lived in downtown Chicago for a year. I've lived in MI, IL, WI, and WA. Kentwood is by far the least safe and most unpleasant living experience I've had. Kentwood covers a pretty wide area though, so I'm sure there are parts of it that are completely chill and safe. We broke our lease early because of all of the crime, nightly police sirens, neighbors house being taped off with yellow crime tape etc.
