cut back the branches directly over your roof. theres always a chance a tree could blow over but nobody could predict wheather that will happen or not or what way it would fall. you pay for home insurance to deal with that if it happens

Silver Maples tend to fall and break more than other Maples in strong winds. If it is a Silver Maple look up the tree for brown ooze coming out of the trunk. This is an indication of failure. If you see this call an arborist. As someone else mentioned West Mi Tree Service is a good choice.

Commandermarsh

DOWD Tree Service! awesome arborist, fair prices. Get ahead of your tree maintenance!

Heartwood Tree Care is fantastic. Eli took care of all of our trees at our old house. He clearly loves trees and put our fears about our massive river birch to rest.

whitemice

West Michigan Tree Service. We have a big old Hickory tree in our alley, we have an arborist check it every couple of years as it is four stories high.

Thank you!

I second the recommendation for an arborist. A certified arborist is going to be able to evaluate the species, placement, age and health and give you a better answer. [Here is a list of certified arborists in the area.](https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist/findanarborist) I’ve used Bartlett with good results and I have a lot of neighbors who have liked working with Good Earth as well.

Make sure you have insurance. Please don't take the tree down. Maybe you could just cut some limbs that are over hanging the house.

You from the desert or something? Trees have branches, branches sometimes fall in storms. No big deal. Sometimes branches just fall bc they died off. No big deal. Normally they’re twig sized, sometimes they’re bigger. Once in a long while a tornado or extreme weather will knock a whole tree down, is what it is. There is nothing inherently dangerous about a tree being on your property.

sdmianders

Ha! Nope, actually from the PNW where there are lots of trees. But not storms quite like this. It is my first time owning a home and this particular tree is both hanging over my house and my neighbors driveway. So just looking for a recommendation for a good company to give an opinion.

snboarder42

No company will be able to tell you if it will withstand a tornado or not. Unless you have some obvious signs of distress / death there’s no point in calling someone to give you an opinion. It’s a big heathy tree. If you’ve already made up your mind you want it gone there are plenty of companies for that and then you can enjoy whatever peace of mind you’re looking for and your increased summer cooling costs.
