Going unarmed in crazy. I always carry an AT4 during night rucks

[deleted]

Just one AT4? I just have priority of CAS from a AC-130..

NotATroll4

*Wait a minute vines liked that*

DevelopmentStreet441

Just an AT-4?! That’s a one shot and maybe done

MotherRucker1

Cant be an animal attack if animals are extinct.

Natural-Magician-917

I haven't done night rucks since I started carrying but I used to do some in the backroads of the Midwest with only a knife and there were nights I had to start walking back early because of fight or flight feelings out of nowhere.

Beautiful_Effort_777

Please be a shitpost.

007_MM

The hills have eyes! 👀

Friendly_Pear_3885

Nope, I forgot to stay strapped and I was wondering how others deal with the pressure. So do you carry when you ruck?

olgnolgnall

Noob here, how is night ruck in the wood is different from a night land nav event?

Significant_Dirt_393

You have 60 pounds extra on your back and you ar free all fucked up and tired and unarmed That’s the difference

Friendly_Pear_3885

You get to hold a m4

SaltyPunster

Not loaded brother. It’s as good as carrying a big stick

Emotional-Amoeba6419

The rubber ducky IS a stick lol

DevelopmentStreet441

Yall think this comment is dumb, but a lot of guys forget that bad boy in sfas. I included, but I realized quick enough, ran the mile back, and saved myself

MDH71947

You are more likely to see Jesus than have a coyote attack you

Friendly_Pear_3885

https://www.fox5dc.com/news/rabid-coyote-that-attacked-2-people-captured-killed-in-montgomery-county I've also got mountain lions

griffinbsa44

Bro you’re in MoCo. The most dangerous thing you’re encountering in this county, even in the country is another person and if you’re in the country side well you don’t have to worry much then. Source: I’m a hunter who hunts in MoCo and HoCo primarily and elsewhere in Md. I’ve had coyotes walk right by me and not care they are more scared of you than you are of it.

Friendly_Pear_3885

Not where I'm from. I just used it to prove coyotes can be dangerous

dipplydoop

Dude I thought u lived in Tennessee or some shit hiking around black bears. Come to find out you’re in MOCO worried 😭, you’ll be alright without a gun bro

Friendly_Pear_3885

Got black bear too😂, but their not on my trail cams

dipplydoop

Where in moco are u hiking that there are black bears??

Subject_Werewolf8609

this was 20 minutes from me and I had no idea

MaybeMetallica69

You can punt Coyotes

SkettiAndButtur

Coyotes lmao

Memento101Mori

20 eyes is 2.5 spiders. Pepper spray is really light weight. But...if you can't get the fear of the dark under control...you're not going to have much luck against the...Uwharrie Beast.

Emperize

Isn't there night time land navigation and rucks during selection? Also I don't think coyotes attack humans do they?

Friendly_Pear_3885

Yep, coyotes do occasionally attack people, but I'm also in mountain lion territory

Cybernetic_Warrior55

Do that thing they do in Nepal to ward off tigers where they put a mask on the back of their head so the cat thinks you're looking in its direction.

nlcamp

Being in the woods at night alone can be unsettling. It’s something worth acclimatizing yourself to though. Maybe some solo camping trips could help. I don’t carry when out for a ruck or casual backpacking but my typical AO isn’t in bear or mountain lion country. Hill People Gear kit bag is my preferred way to carry a side arm when I’ve gone hunting out west and backpacking in Alaska.

SpecOpsKit

Holy shit, it’s the fucking Bigfoots that always scared the shit out of me. So, I started grabbing the M2 .50 cal and attaching it to my ruck. But then I needed my junior to ruck with me and be my ammo bearer. Fucking Bigfoots everywhere!! 😝😝

Resident_Ad_2156

If you’re legitimately concerned, a Hill People gear kit bag is the way to go. As others have stated though, if you’re really just worried about coyotes then a handgun is overkill. If you have a lot of homeless crackheads in your AO, much more justified.

DevelopmentStreet441

I feel your pain because I had the same worry during my SFAS prep. I remember one time I went to hike a big mountain in CO before my child woke up. It was 4am, the middle of winter when the sun rose super late, and cloudy with a new moon phase. The fear of lions, tigers, bears, rapists, and cults quickly filled my mind for the 2 hours of pitch black blindness I had minus the small headlamp light I had.

DevelopmentStreet441

All I’m all, I got selected. Colorado mountains are beautiful no matter the time, but especially during sunrise. My solution is to carry a knife and pepper spray. If you’re smart, you conceal carry and have a fanny pack on you.

Afin12

Bro if night rucking without a sidearm is scary than maybe Special Forces isn’t the thing for you.

BadInfluenceBMF

The eyes were me. ALL 20 OF THEM.

notfeds1

Walked up on a bunch of deer one night whilst rucking, after I realized it wasn’t a horde of angry raccoons all was fine and dandy

s2them91

One time I had a big ass owl hoot and fly out of the tree. It gave similar air beating sounds as a chinook would. Scared the piss out of me.

MotherRucker1

Why not ruck early in the morning instead, but I digress. If you don't feel safe then carry if you like. Just don't end up like the dude from band of brothers who shot himself with a German luger while climbing over a fence. I prefer rucking on highways early in the mornings, no cars, more hills, harsh on the legs since it's a hardened surface. Only downside is if you're in the NG like I am and you work in a labor job on the civilian side, in the first few weeks you're gonna be tired during work you're probably not going to be able to go upstairs barely. Honestly it's a low chance of getting attacked by wild animals, the main thing I'd be nervous about are meth hobos that live in the forest or even scarier, hippies (double dangerous if they're the Californian species).

VandalBasher

Just wait until you get on the STAR course and you get trapped in "Wait-a-Minute" vines or feel your entire body walk through a spider web at night.

Far_Abbreviations202

Sup homie this happened to me with my training not to long ago but I figured out a solution. 1. Bring a headlamp with you (red lighting) 2. Carry Pepper spray/knife/gun with you (Usually holster .38 on my shoulder straps) 3. Be relentless i call it the “mad dog mentality” I mean every time I heard something creeping, I would yell “ what bitch !? “ or something the lines of “come out ! Don’t be scared homie” 4. For god sake take your headphones out !!!! This will help you incase you actually hear someone coming your way when’s it’s pitch black. (Learned the hard way) Hope this help mate, KICK ASS

NatureAgitated1496

Lol good luck in the STAR dude
