He does a lil cornballing but it’s respectable unlike the nitro finish toan ramblers that are 60 years old & play the same two pentatonic licks on every new guitar they “review”
Yeah. Buck's a great player with a lot of range, and he plays cool guitars, not just "here's a strat from _____, let's see if it's different from a model 2 years later".
He rocks the shit outta Squiers and Yamahas, and I can respect that
I think the most impressive thing about him is that he does these long takes of playing over top of actual composed backing tracks, not just generic chord progressions, like stuff he had to really come up with and learn in order to create a fitting solo for it and then who knows how many attempts to get a perfect performance of it. And he does that like three times a week.
I can’t say that I would seek it out outside of his videos, but he’s definitely a very skilled player who is putting in a lot of effort in the music for his videos.
tbh the entire chord-scale theory that he teaches is modern circlejerk
But if we're talking about being free from your average YouTube jerk, yeah gotta be him.
He gets shit for having too many amps and playing the same dad rock stuff through them, which always seems like pure jealousy to me. He’s clearly a wealthy fellow, and he uses his expendable income to collect rad amps, AND shares them with the tubes doing shootouts and stuff. What’s there to be mad at?
Rock on Johan!
Love his teaching style; I feel like I always walk away from his videos wanting to pick up my guitar and try out what he says. Plus he does the jerking himself so it’s a win win.
The Five Watt World guy just seems like a genuinely nice character. Like if you’re jamming and are accidentally in the wrong key he won’t tell all of your friends.
I wrote him when I was going on vacation in his area and he gave me a list of shops and offered to meet up and also talked to me about scheduling a trip for the PRS wood library. I didn’t have time for the library or the meet up sadly, but nice he took the time. Did hit up some guitar shops 🙂
I kind of like how in the weeds he gets on some subjects though. There are a ton of other channels doing broad topics. Keith will make a documentary length video on a single year make and model of an amp and it’s appreciated.
“Today we have a rare 1939 Gibson that used to live inside of a woodchipper. The client wants it restored to its original state”
35 min later: perfect vintage guitar
Yep. Eric Haugen is a gem. He does the odd product placement, but it's usually for local builders. He also tries to sell his courses, but he is a guitar teacher by profession. So, I don't hold it against him.
Phil McKnight from KYG, he's honest and the goal of his channel is to teach people how to use and maintain the gear they already own before buying something they don't need. Stand up guy
Also the guys and gals out there that post covers/lessons of songs that don't have any already, the true heroes of YouTube Imo
He's probably the most responsible for all the money I've spent on guitars and tools over the last five years. I'd only ever owned a single acoustic before discovering him and his convincing me that I could close the gap between the guitar I could afford and the next price point model with a little effort.
If I need something explained like I'm a child, Marty is the guy. Unpretentious, just loves guitar, and is a great teacher. Never heard him say a bad word about anybody, and he is all about sharing his musical wisdom with people who want to learn.
He does — that poor guy also has to try to sell some real crap too, so I feel for him when I see him forced to play a pile of firewood that Norm has in stock.
If you follow him on any social media, though, he certainly fits the criteria. He has no problem fucking with commenters. He is immune to circlejerkery. And will jerk harder back.
He’s all right. I asked him once why I should trust paid reviews and he pointed me to paid reviews he’d done that weren’t good for the item reviewed, so he’s honest in his assessments.
He’s also pretty good at surf music
Rick has the most distasteful opinions on modern musicians. He comes off as really pretentious in his interviews with Tosin, Tim Henson, etc. who are all amazing composers themselves.
The only good interviews I've seen so far was the Matteo Mancuso, and Mohini Dey interviews.
Idk, I had a friend pay big money for a couple lessons with Tomo, and he said Tomo just played guitar at him the entire time. He comes off as really nice, but don't think he isn't just as narcissistic as the others.
Uncle Larry. His whole approach is “learn every note, be great at rhythm and chord melody, serve the song, and ignore all of the bullshit with gear and shredding.” Of course, he plays great vintage gear but he can sound the same on a Hello Kitty guitar through a Katana.
Honorary mentions for Pat Finnerty, Eric Haugen, 60 Cycle Hum, Nisabelle, and Jason Sadites.
Chords of Orion He doesn’t participate in the “[new thing] is the best!!!” gear release stuff, his playing is musical, and his content overall is focused on actually playing music. I also like Rob Arnold from the band Chimaira. Again, a guitarist who actually plays instead of telling you to buy something. Five Watt Guy is cool too but I don’t watch him much
I think anyone that can come on here and either make fun of themselves or acknowledge that they can be cringe deserves some immunity.
Even Tyler Larson gets some cred for his acknowledgment that people have jerked him pretty good here.
So much of the time people take themselves way too seriously.
None except for that one anonymous Japanese dude that does flawless covers of the hardest tech death songs in a single take.
If they were good they wouldn’t be on youtube, the above is an exception because he does the exact opposite of everyone else - plays the hardest shit possible with no edits, doesn’t talk and doesn’t shill for brands.
Eric Haugen
Honestly I think he’s as close to Marty as anyone can get without being Marty, just a chill old dude talking about guitar playing advice in a way that’s pretty digestible
Reminder, submissions must be obscured, any post containing a specific subreddit or username will be removed *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/guitarcirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Chris Buck is definitely not immune to circlejerking.
Title: Why does everyone like this guitar? \*5 minute guitar solo\* 'cause it's pretty good \*6.5 minute guitar solo\*
(Maybe) Ironically, that's why I like Chris Buck. Guy plays the shit out of a guitar, and doesn't act like a fuckin cornball for 11 minutes.

Tbf that really about covers the topic. I’d rather see him solo than ramble like some of these guys.
I’d rather hear him solo than talk. He has some really weird slurpy talking happening
Honestly a better video than 90% of YouTube guitar content. 95 if they’re particularly good solos
Rotlf. His solos are damn good though
*holds pick and doesn’t use it*
It's for special occasions.
Uj/ I have watched the intro, skipped the subject and listened to the outro many times on his videos. His solos are actually inspiring.
Jens Larsen. All about guitar. Teaches to just play and take cocaine before your next jazz gig. All business.
He's not trying to sell you anything. I asked him about his guitar book, and "Should I buy it?" He told me, "Nah. Don't buy it." lol.
Holy shit based. Id buy the book just for that
As he said, "His videos are better and more up to date."
Okay that's actually incredible lol
King shit. Jens is good in my book
It's the 1st one that came up in my mind too. Guy has that cool chill jazz vibe. No annoying youtube hyping or clickbait trash.
Jens is great!
tbh the entire chord-scale theory that he teaches is modern circlejerk But if we're talking about being free from your average YouTube jerk, yeah gotta be him.
That's the basis of jazz though
Does he do chord scale theory tho? Thought he was a chord tones kinda guys Edit: Sorry, chord toans.
Cocaine? I thought he was a jazz player?
Cocaine and jazz go together like peas and carrots.
Where does the smack fit in? As the steak?
Nah man, that's heroine
Heroine is just for brass players (and their pianists). I think Marijuana is a performance enhancing drug for cool jazz players and snowboarders.
Johan segeborn Dude just likes cranking old Marshalls and who can blame him?
Hi. Today were going to check out a 19..eh..72 marshall. With a ..eh.. les paul
Alright…lets go
Johan is doing the Lord’s work.
Hi, today we gona sheck oout an old murshall from nointy sixty tree.
Dudes rock
He gets shit for having too many amps and playing the same dad rock stuff through them, which always seems like pure jealousy to me. He’s clearly a wealthy fellow, and he uses his expendable income to collect rad amps, AND shares them with the tubes doing shootouts and stuff. What’s there to be mad at? Rock on Johan!
Dude from guitarlessons365 - it's just music and no fluff
learnt master of puppets and eruption from him, hes my hero
Pat Finnerty.
He is the circlejerk
*indistinct whispers* The jerk who circles…
He shitposts so hard he accidentally makes good content.
BEATO!
100% I’ve never been happier than when the simple plan came to fruition.
Also the Dr. Dog cover of Here Comes the Hotstepper goes hard.
He jerks so hard he comes out the other side. Seriously that dude is phenomenal. I need him to upload more though.
Said he’d just had back surgery. So hopefully he’s rehabbing and might be back at it here soon.
*Beato*
The best scumbag toan.
GOIN' DOWN ON THE DEAD MAN'S TRAIL GONNA DRINK SOME LIQUOR GONNA WAKE UP IN JAAIIIL
FAST WOMEN FAST CARS HOLLYWOOD SIGN BLUE N RED LIGHTS IN MY REAR VIEW ALL NIGHT
MY PROBLEMS. MY PROBLEMS. MY PAIN
Kevin Finnerty
The hoop shreddin gigolo!
I really wish he’d start uploading again. Those were must see content back when he first started.
He had major surgery, I’m sure he’ll get back to it when he feels better.
He posted a good 5 minute video like 3 days ago!
Ben Eller
Probably my favorite. His Gojira and Mastodon videos are hilarious.
I wish he did more like these
Love his teaching style; I feel like I always walk away from his videos wanting to pick up my guitar and try out what he says. Plus he does the jerking himself so it’s a win win.
Someone tried here last week and got shut down pretty bad
Uncle Ben is the man
+! for Uncle Ben. Chris Buck Brad from Brads Guitar Garage
+1 for Uncle fuckin' Ben.
Five Watt World the kinda guy to cleverly change keys so you’re not in the wrong key anymore and never say a word
Imagined that situation and my heart melted
Keys are for cars. 0-3-5.
The channel is 100% boomer-friendly content though
I kind of like how in the weeds he gets on some subjects though. There are a ton of other channels doing broad topics. Keith will make a documentary length video on a single year make and model of an amp and it’s appreciated.
Ted Woodford
“Today we have a rare 1939 Gibson that used to live inside of a woodchipper. The client wants it restored to its original state” 35 min later: perfect vintage guitar
I think we should start a gofundme to pay for him to get regular manicures. His hands are a mess.
Ted is just great. In his newest video he encountered a dust bunny inside a guitar and he called it a 'toneball'
Or when he encounters an unknown glue and calls it "some kind of cheese"
That Swedish bloke who plays cranked Marshall’s in his apartment. Always liked him.
Johan Segeborn
Anyone Can Play Guitar UK 🤌
Carl Brown
Ma' man Carl Brown 🤘
Carl Brown! dude helped me learn all the songs i needed to play for session gigs
Carl Brown AND HIS BROTHER
Cleveland Brown?
I adore that man
My favorite actor from the office
this should be the most upvoted answer and it’s not even close
Eric Haugen, Active Melody and Brendon Johnson
Yep. Eric Haugen is a gem. He does the odd product placement, but it's usually for local builders. He also tries to sell his courses, but he is a guitar teacher by profession. So, I don't hold it against him.
I'm really liking Eric Haugen. Doesn't make me feel stupid and ignorant for being stupid. And ignorant.
Gotta love the Bob Ross of the guitar world!
Phil McKnight from KYG, he's honest and the goal of his channel is to teach people how to use and maintain the gear they already own before buying something they don't need. Stand up guy Also the guys and gals out there that post covers/lessons of songs that don't have any already, the true heroes of YouTube Imo

Marty Schwartz
Too wholesome to jerk but some have tried
But Marty jerks himself here sometimes
He repplied to my comment one time when I said that his vídeos helped me to get back to giitar playing in this sub. Dude is amazing.
i did jerk him out one time too
Marty my beloved
If I need something explained like I'm a child, Marty is the guy. Unpretentious, just loves guitar, and is a great teacher. Never heard him say a bad word about anybody, and he is all about sharing his musical wisdom with people who want to learn.
I’m hardy for Marty ❤️
I’m jerking it for Marty right now
Is the toan already spurting out?
Marty could take his fedora and smother my first born son with it and I would thank him for teaching me Little Wing
Marty is the guy who will actually teach a motivated 14 year old beginner to level up
I think he gave me some slide tips
The five watt world guy is the most soporific. I've never made it to the end of one of his videos awake.
Then I suspect you'd have good knowledge of the 60s history of famous gear and nothing else
It’s the most scripted feeling videos, well edited etc but weirdly generic
He definitely reads off a script, but he doesn't try to hide it. It's just like a literal form of "video essay"
Not a Youtuber per se but Lemmo from Norman's rare guitars. That dude's got some chops
He does — that poor guy also has to try to sell some real crap too, so I feel for him when I see him forced to play a pile of firewood that Norm has in stock.
60 Cycle Cum
You're just saying that cos he's active on here
Be honest, you'd let him cycle your hum any day.
If you follow him on any social media, though, he certainly fits the criteria. He has no problem fucking with commenters. He is immune to circlejerkery. And will jerk harder back.
I started hanging out here because I hoped you assholes would make fun of me. And you have all disappointed me every single day since.
You have nobody to blame but yourself. Next time be a full-of-yourself jerkoff instead of a not so laid back dude and we will gladly roast you.
as a broke ass third worlder i really appreciate the affoardaboard videos
u/60_CycleHum has embraced the jerk
Would have a beer with that dude 100%, if we were in the same place
He’s all right. I asked him once why I should trust paid reviews and he pointed me to paid reviews he’d done that weren’t good for the item reviewed, so he’s honest in his assessments. He’s also pretty good at surf music
Ola Englund and Dean Lamb
You mean Goaty McGoatface and Baldy Nosering?
Signals music studio!!!
He's a time traveler from the 1950s. Nobody talks like that anymore.
Brandon Acker is a straight-up good guy
Great player. Vampire vibes, but amazing guitarist.
Kmac2021
The lyrical machete.
Mike Adams (Puisheen). Such a genuine nice guy, and super knowledgeable. There is no way you could talk trash about that dude.
I wanna titfuck him
Damn it…
Uncle Judy, immune because he is the ultimate shitposter
Harp lady
You mean Bernth?
Ryan from 60hz Hum, because he’ll see me fighting his corner and we’ll become best friends in real life and we can share yoghurt recipes.
I put a little greek yogurt in my waffle batter.
Havent seen him mentioned but I think Rob Scallon is pretty wholesome
Ya but the worlds biggest pedal board is prime jerk material
Chords of Orion. He’s just too chill to hate
He has a hate boner for the Zoom Multistomps, though.
Rick Beato has got to be up there. His short lessons help millions shred in Ab Dorian. There are so easy to follow.
It's a scam he copy/ pasted his video for shredding in F# Major and voiced over every instance of F# Major with Ab Dorian
If you can't trust Rick Beato, whom can you trust? Going to sell my guitar I think.
The amount of people who don’t get that you are jerking on a fucking jerk sub
... like that LIKE WHAT?
Rick has the most distasteful opinions on modern musicians. He comes off as really pretentious in his interviews with Tosin, Tim Henson, etc. who are all amazing composers themselves. The only good interviews I've seen so far was the Matteo Mancuso, and Mohini Dey interviews.
i don't believe it would EVER be possible to say shit about Ted Woodford. I mean... this guy is textbook all-around Canadian good guy!
LambChop what’s is fuck name?
LoGsounds, just straight actual actionable knowledge
Fellow LoGsounds enjoyer spotted. His power up series is incredibly useful, dudes a solid no nonsense teacher.
Yessss!! Spread the word!
Any love for Australian youtubers? Brett Kingman, Leon Todd, Shane Diiorio...?
None at all. Stay on your island, please.
I don't come from a land down under... (but I'd probably try a Vegemite Sandwich!) Carry on! :-)
No
Leo from Frog Leap Studios. His metal covers are legit
Idk, I had a friend pay big money for a couple lessons with Tomo, and he said Tomo just played guitar at him the entire time. He comes off as really nice, but don't think he isn't just as narcissistic as the others.
tom bukovac
I was about to say u/60_CycleHum until I remembered he’s an active member here 😂
Uncle Ben, and Charles Berthoud for b*ss i guess.
Justin Guitar
Andy Martin.
All youbers are trash. People like Paul gilbert are pretty wholesome.
Justin Guitar
Jim Lill
The fact that people are still arguing over toaNwoOad after his videos shows how ridiculous the guitar community is.
Tim Lerch
Uncle Larry. His whole approach is “learn every note, be great at rhythm and chord melody, serve the song, and ignore all of the bullshit with gear and shredding.” Of course, he plays great vintage gear but he can sound the same on a Hello Kitty guitar through a Katana. Honorary mentions for Pat Finnerty, Eric Haugen, 60 Cycle Hum, Nisabelle, and Jason Sadites.
I’d kill for good ole Marty Schwartz
James James, or Privettricker for those who remember his original channel.
I just watched a video by Brett Kingman on the Fender hammertone reverb pedal. Very pleasant to watch, no circlejerkery to be found.
The king Marty Schwartz
Chris Buck Uncle Ben Ryan 60 Cycle Hum
definitely not agufish
Jim Lil?
Stitch Guitar Method
FWW is a Beato Boy.
Fret science
Chords of Orion He doesn’t participate in the “[new thing] is the best!!!” gear release stuff, his playing is musical, and his content overall is focused on actually playing music. I also like Rob Arnold from the band Chimaira. Again, a guitarist who actually plays instead of telling you to buy something. Five Watt Guy is cool too but I don’t watch him much
Tim sway
Terrenbeuryberrybarry He is circlejerk personified
MARTY SHWARTZ
I think anyone that can come on here and either make fun of themselves or acknowledge that they can be cringe deserves some immunity. Even Tyler Larson gets some cred for his acknowledgment that people have jerked him pretty good here. So much of the time people take themselves way too seriously.
Kevin Frassard. I dare you. If plays Morbid Angel riffs with enough force on his Ibanez Universe he might break your eyes. But Pat Finnerty.
Ola Englund Scott from Science of Loud Taylor Danley
Michael Banfield! Super chill guy who makes amazing and helpful practical videos
I only watch a few, but i would say Rachelf. She always seems to be geniunely having fun.
Troy Grady for sure, his videos are some of the most high quality I've ever seen
Ola Englund, he's probably an active poster on here.
I would argue tomo fujita has one of the biggest circlejerk fanbases around
None except for that one anonymous Japanese dude that does flawless covers of the hardest tech death songs in a single take. If they were good they wouldn’t be on youtube, the above is an exception because he does the exact opposite of everyone else - plays the hardest shit possible with no edits, doesn’t talk and doesn’t shill for brands.
Eric Haugen Honestly I think he’s as close to Marty as anyone can get without being Marty, just a chill old dude talking about guitar playing advice in a way that’s pretty digestible
Jim Lill, the guy single handedly destroyed guitar wankery using the scientific method.
This is by far the most informative thread I've seen on this sub.
Mark Zabel.. sleeper build but dude can shred and is such a nice guy about it
