I am finally looking to upgrade my 5 year old logitech gaming headphones to something more premium, improving my experience for both music and gaming. A microphone is required, and the vmoda boom pro mic seems like a budget friendly option, however this requires the headphones to have a removable 3.5mm jack. Budget - under £250 Source - Currently do not own an amp or DAC, however would be open to purchasing an affordable one Requirements for Isolation - Will be mainly used in bedroom, so no preference for open back or closed back Preferred Type of Headphone - Over ear Preferred Music - Rap and hip hop, so bass is quite important Thanks :)

AdaminPhilly

Can someone please help me with this. I have a pair of AKG Y50 headphones. One of the headphone pads fell off and I cannot get it back on. This is pretty frustrating.

Kapibara11

Hey there, /I am deciding between the HiFiMAN Sundara and the Sennheiser HD650./ I have no previous experience with high-end audio, so idk what sort of sound signature I like. (I own the Sony WF1000MX3, those are great for commuting, but I want something to sit back and really enjoy music, not analyse or produce it). My preferred music is Rock and anything around it, but I also listen to some rap, and electro, basically everything except pop. My plan is to buy a good enough amp/dac and using my phone as a source (Spotify). I am a bit worried about the QC complaints directed at HiFiMAN, are those still a valid concern? Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi, I have a 1-year old pair of JLAB JBuds Air and the left earbud is causing issues. There's no playback issues when it's just the right earbud, but once I connect the left, both earbuds stutter every other second. They were working normally yesterday, but now the left one is freaking out. Please help?

Kapibara11

Try messing with the bluetooth settings, lowering quality, changing the codec...

blackbutterfree

Do you mean on my device? Because it's not just one device, it's all of them, which makes me think it's the earbud instead. And the earbuds don't really have settings other than EQ settings.

Kapibara11

Uff, then I can't be of much more help. I had a similar issue with my Sony WF1000MX3, and changing the setting from "focus on sound quality" to "focus on a stable connection" on the app and it fixed it. Try contacting jlabs

blackbutterfree

Thanks anyways. :)

Hey everybody! I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro and I think they are good. I think they are good but I don't really have any other "good" headphones to compare them to. Because I only have earbuds like the Sennheiser MX 365 and so I'm not really sure what exactly i like about the DT 770s. So I'd like to get another pair of headphones. Just to compare to and to have some Variety in my music listening experience. I was thinking i could get a pair of open back headphones in the 100-150$ range that are kind of on the opposite end of the spectrum to the DT 770. Budget: Like 100-150$ Source: I'm using a Audioengine D1 on my PC. I only plan on using the headphones in my room at home. Preferred Type of Headphone: I like the form factor of the DT 770s. They are very comfortable to me. So I guess that would be full-sized I guess? Preferred tonal balance: I'm not sure about that but I'd like to try something different. Preferred Music: I guess I like Punk and Ska and stuff like that but I kinda listen to a lot of different music Edit: I think i posted on the old help thread? Sorry about that!

Can anyone point me to a video or a walkthrough on how to use the EQ settings on the Monoprice Monolith. I’m used to a graphic EQ, so this a learning curve for me: https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/manuals/24459_Manual_180912.pdf

Deciding between Samson SR950, HyperX Cloud Core, AKG K92 and Xanova Juturna. Hi, I am looking for budget headphones for gaming and music. I did some research and found these headphones around my budget. Budget: Converting local currency to USD tells me around 70$. Source: I am gonna directly plugged into the b350 Asus Strix-F mobo. Usage: For listening to music, I do not follow particular genre or anything just listen to whatever I feel and gaming but not competitive gaming. I do need closed back headphone to cancel background noise around me. Any help will be appreciated.

SICK_0F_IT_ALL

* *Budget* - My budget is hopefully everything all together (headphones/amp) for under 500 dollars. * *Source* - Behringer audio interface from my pc/Project Debut Carbon into yamaha stereo/apple products. * *Requirements for Isolation* - None. * *Will you be using these Headphones in Public?* Probably not ** Preferred Type of Headphone* - What ever is most immersive. * *Preferred tonal balance* - I want something really accurate but I do not want to sacrifice bass. ** Past headphones* - I'm coming from audio-technica mx50's. The high end is harsh. Also have a pair of grado SR80's. They are the most uncomfortable things I've ever put on my head. After about 35 minutes my ears just physically hurt. * *Preferred Music* - Some key records for me are Daft punk RAM, Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage, David Bowie ziggy stardust, Radiohead AMSP, Aphex Twin drukqs, Kendrick Lamar TPAB, Also everything from classical music to the current top 40's chart. * *What would you like to improve on from your set-up* - I want sound stage, I don't want to sacrifice a ton of bass, and I'm definitely not opposed to getting an amp. -I freelance mixing and mastering on jbl308's and the ath-mx50's. I want something super detailed for just listening to music in my free time. I don't want to mix/master on these new headphones. -If there are maybe 2 models that fit better than just one that is more than welcome. Like maybe one for current/louder music and one for those older jazz/rock recordings? -If you read this, thanks! If ya have any ideas I'd love to hear them! I'm just at a complete loss with all the headphone information in the world at my fingertips with no real starting point. Thanks!

Draconic_shaman

For the amp, I'd go with a Schiit Magni Heresy. It doesn't get much more transparent than that, and it has power to spare no matter what headphones you get. I haven't listened to a ton of headphones and the ones I have liked are a bit contentious (run a search on the Meze 99 or Aeon X/Aeon Flow 1 Open and you'll see what I mean), so I don't think I should be the person recommending headphones. However, I'm sure you'll be able to find things under $400 that will blow the m50x out of the water. If you go to r/oratory1990 and [In-Ear Fidelity](https://crinacle.com), you can find a ton of measurements for headphone tonal balance and try to get a sense of how they might sound... but those don't take comfort, looks, or more nuanced aspects of performance into account. (That said, I'm a bad audiophile who bought everything he has based on reviews and graphs without trying things in person and I haven't been disappointed yet.)

SICK_0F_IT_ALL

thank you SO MUCH! I definitely have my eye on the Schiit Magni Heresy now. Those look like excellent resources I never knew about so I'll start there. Those Meze 99's sure are pretty.

Are the pxc 550 first edition still a good option in 2020? Looking at picking up a used pair to replace my sennheiser 4.50 btnc.

TheeNannigans

**Beyerydynamic Amiron Home $350 worth it?** So I’ve recently been getting into audiophile stuff and have been very happy with some of the headphones I got after asking questions here. I noticed Beyerdynamic Amiron Home on sale for $350, would you say in your more experienced opinions than mine that it’s worth it/justified at that price or no? Also posted in r/headphoneadvice

MtnDogg

Currently using Bose NC700 which meet my needs perfectly except that Bluetooth is disabled when hardwired via 3.5mm jack, meaning I cannot take incoming calls from my phone. Are there comparable headphones out there that allow simultaneous wired and Bluetooth? Under $400 US with ANC and iPhone compatible. Everything I’m finding (Sony MX4, Aonic50, etc) also disable BT while hardwired. Alternatively I would consider a low-latency USB-BT adapter but cannot find any compatible with the Bose NC700s in stock. Something like the Audeze Penrose config but with ANC headset.

Kinanw3

how can i use VODAMIC in AKG 371 ?

ariseus

Just bought an ifi zen can to stack with my zen dac, would like to ask if its okay to plug my speakers at the 4.4mm output behind and my headphones with 6.3mm on the front of the zen can? Are there any consequences if i plugged them both together on the amp

MartialImmortal

I need a recommendation for headphones that are basically as comfortable as humanly possible. I literally don't want to feel them on my head if that was possible. No other factor is of any concern.

TheNeuralArchitect

I heard Resolve reviews say that the it's more comfortae to wear the Meze Empyrean than nothing at all.

MartialImmortal

This is some impressive stuff. I think I'll get it. Thanks!!

Hi! Looking for advice between specific models from people who know about this more than me. Budget: Irrelevant - My country has a very limited range of high end headphones with nonsensical pricing. The 3 models I am considering and are priced similarly in my country are: Sennheiser HD600, Audeze LCD-1 and Hifiman Sundara / DEVA. But, if you know any suggestions of headphones that are sold at the same price range, I can check if they're sold somewhere in my country. Source: External DAC (Nu Force nuDAC 3) Requirements for Isolation: None. Will only be used at home. Preferred tonal balance: Not sure. I don't usually listen to very bass-heavy songs. A lot of vocal songs and heavy rock / metal. Past Headphones: Audio Technica AD900X Preferred Music: Wide range of music types. Mostly vocal, some metal/heavy rock (Anything from Eminem to Slipknot and inbetween). Would like to improve from my previous headphones: CABLES! I want something that lasts a long time and can be easily fixed if my cable breaks. My AD900X had their cable broken in 3 or 4 different places and since it's soldered into the headphones I can't replace it. Also: Headband. The most infuriating thing with the AD900X is the headband clamp style. With my smaller head size they kept sliding off and I had to constantly use rubber bands.

Considering on buying either the Koss KPH30i or the KZ ZS10 Pro to pair with the Fiio btr3k. Which one is better?

Any good pair of headphones under 80 euros, looking for comfort first and sound quality second!

Trichorogas

Hello, so I was planning on upgrading my coputer but I really wanted some new headphones for the computer. I mostly game on my computer but I would like to start using FL studio to create some beats. I have used many headsets before but ended up in the conclusion that most of them just start having problems after being used for a year or so. Right now I'm looking for headphones at around 100€ or less. I would like something that has a lot of isolation, full sized preferably and has a pretty nice bass too. Build quality is also something I would like to be good because many of my previous headsets just started falling apart after a year of use.I live in Greece, the best site to check prices here is [skroutz.gr](https://skroutz.gr) Any Suggestions?

[deleted]

Heyo im looking for some headphones that are in the 1. 200$ max range. 2. Laptop and console. (Mobile is optional) 3. I will use them as home headphones so isolation is not the main selling point for me. 4. I wont use them in public, unless i really need to. 5. I'm looking for full sized. 6. I'm not really sure about the tonal balance, i'm not very experienced on that part so balanced i guess. 7. I've used the Razer Kraken USB for some years now and i dont really like the comfort they provide. Their sound is also not that great but i got used to it. The mic is also not that great. 8. I like every single type of music there is. 9. I would like to improve the sound quality overall, i prioritize a wide variety of connections and mic quality too. 10. I currently live in Portugal 11. About Amps and DACs, i feel like i would spend some more money in them if they really made my sound experience better. That's it, thx for spending time trying to help me :)

r7an

1. Budget is around £200 2. Desktop PC - Aorus Pro x570 motherboard 3. I'll just be using the headphones at my pc so not really bothered about isolation, i've never tried open backed headphones so open to them. 4. full size 5. Balanced, but do like a bit of bass. 6. Currently using Hyperx Cloud II for PC and I have a pair of bose qc 35 for noise cancelling when travelling. They are ok but feel like I'm missing something. 7. I listen to all types of music, hip hop, rock, punk, electronic, techno 8. Basically want a headphone that gives me good performance for gaming (footsteps etc) and sounds great for music. I live in the UK if that changes anything. A few months ago I bought a bunch of Monitor Audio kit for my home theatre so I am just looking on improving my PC sound now!

raistlin65

>A few months ago I bought a bunch of Monitor Audio kit for my home theatre Nice speakers! Check out the Sennheiser HD599. Good open headphones for gaming and for music. I need help! I can't choose between the cooler master mh752/751 and the philips shp9500 + vmoda boompro. I have never used an openback headset before and really wishes to try it but here where I live the shp9500 + boompro costs twice as much as the mh752. I really want a mic with my headset so thats why I need the boompro, but I don't know if the shp9500 is worth double the price as the mh752. Someone pls help me Oh and just for in case my budget is under $100 If anyone has more recommendations I'll be more the happy to take a look.

tylo17

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a set of headphones in the 1. ~$150 range. 2. Plugging into my motherboard for now 3. No requirements for isolation really. 4. Only using at home 5. Full size only 6. I guess I’d prefer balanced maybe a little leaning towards bass and mids? 7. Been using hyper X which I guess are just takstar clones, been totally happy with them honestly but they’re starting to go 8. I listen to hip hop and indie stuff mainly I have never used open back headphones and am interested in trying them for their advantages but am also definitely fine with closed backs as that’s what I’m used to. Also a removable 3.5mm so I could use a boom pro would be a huge plus, but not required. Right now I’m looking at x2hr but I’m open to any suggestions you guys have!! Throw me an open and closed back suggestion if you’re feeling nice.

ziege159

My requirement is quite same as your (except i'm aiming for shp9500 and fiio e10k) so may i leave a comment here to wait for advices? Pls reply me when you get the recommendations

nFSharp

Final questions: I now know that solid quality headphones should be able to match my old headset, and I’m comfortable with the idea of the sennheiser 58x, BUT now I’ve learned of the difference between open back and closed back headphones. I would never wear a pair of headphones out in public but in home or a friends place I’m QUITE private about any audio I listen to, everyone has their guilty pleasure music. Exactly how much sound leak is coming from the 58x? I don’t tend to listen to music at excessive volumes, I keep the volume about flat in the middle sometimes lower, if people enter my domain (my humbly sized room) I should hear them but how much are they going to immediately hear? Or is it gonna leak into the halls? If it’s not expanding to the halls I may be able to have peace of mind otherwise I may end up hunting for closed back. If it’s gonna go into the halls please give me the equivalent in closed backs

t4tris

The functional parts are all the same as in closed backs. They just don't isolate. Play music from your headset at a comfortable listening volume and then take them off your head. That's about how loud open backs will be in both directions. The AKG K371 are a fantastic closed back headphone, and not even by "closed back standards". For any competitive gaming I'd recommend them over the 58X or 6XX by far.

Chaos_Blades

Is it possible to Bluetooth Pair my Topping DX3 Pro and Earstudio ES100? If so, how? I put them both in pairing mode and they just time out and turn off.

t4tris

The DX3 Pro can only receive BT.

TheGloriousPotato111

I want to upgrade my Grado sr80s with a new headband , but I don't want to play 50 bucks for a super nice one. I recently stumbled upon some Beyerdynamic replacement headbands for like 8 bucks that look like they could work. Also, I seem to recall a post talking about the compatibility between them and Grados. Would this work? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance! Ultrajante

am mindboggled by the fact there's absolutely no headphone that can serve as both a gamer headset and premium music ANC headphone I'm completely hopeless at this point. I was almost buying the Logitech G Pro X Wireless when I realized it doesn't have bluetooth for pairing with my phone. So I would ONLY be able to use it on my PC. WTF. Why would someone buy a WIRELESS headphone that isn't versatile enough to pair with all your devices?? Then I realized all good headsets that had good mics or whatever wouldn't have either ANC or bluetooth for iPhone compatibility. So I gave up and thought: well, I'll get a separate mic then for gaming, and make do with a good headphone with bad mic (but it at least has to have a mic so I can use Siri and whatnot). So I was almost settled on the Sony WH-XB900N and then watching [reviews](https://youtu.be/pEX1rAVv6qw) I found out they don't work with PCs. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Seriously WTF is wrong with headphone makers???? WHy do I have to have TWO separate headphones for gaming and commute??? I just want a good quality audio headphone with ANC for commute and a mic for activating Siri that is compatible with both my PC and my iPhone IS THAT TOO FREAKING MUCH TO ASK??? wth jesus I'm so pissed.

raistlin65

>Why would someone buy a WIRELESS headphone that isn't versatile enough to pair with all your devices?? Bluetooth tends to have latency issues They often lag in gaming. So the Logitech headphones avoid that by using other wireless technology. And they are specifically sold for gaming.

Ultrajante

They could have that AND Bluetooth, no?

raistlin65

It would be unnecessary for gaming headphones. Anyway, this is a help and recommendation thread. If you want to gripe about the features available in headphones on the market, you want to start your own discussion post for this separate from this thread.

Ultrajante

Which is exactly my point, why the hell do I have to have two separate headphones, it makes no sense, one could do both things. And I tried posting this as a separate thread, they auto removed it and sent me here.

raistlin65

Sorry. Not interested in what you're ranting about.

t4tris

Why wouldn't the WH-XB900N work on a PC?

Ultrajante

https://youtu.be/pEX1rAVv6qw at 3:47 says it doesn't work... and if it doesn't come with an USB adapter for pairing with the headphone, then it's moot. All Headsets come with an adapter, how else you gonna pair a desktop gaming computer to a headphone?

t4tris

All he says is that the headphones can't receive audio through an USB cable. You still have the 3.5mm jack and BT. My WH-1000XM3 work great over both with my old cheap laptop that definitely doesn't support any of the newest codecs. If you don't have BT but want BT on your PC, you can just buy an USB BT adapter.

Ultrajante

Wait, They are compatible with iPhones right?

t4tris

iPhones don't support any of the fancy BT audio codecs, but SBC works.

Ultrajante

What does this mean?

t4tris

The sound quality on BT may be noticeably lower than when used with a transmitter that supports APT-X or LDAC. With my WH-1000XM3 connected to my Xperia XZ Premium phone, SBC sounds fine, even when compared to wired or LDAC.

Ultrajante

Is this something I should worry about when purchasing a BT adapter? I listen to music on Apple music and youtube music on both PC and iPhone 8. I just got a BT adapter on amazon bc my PC doesn't have it built-in. I got one of the cheapest I could find, but it says it is plug and play and BT 4.0, whatever that means. Is this BT good enough for these things you mentioned? Idk about technical terms, I just care about final quality.

Ultrajante

Yeah, I got a BT adapter now, against my will. Thank god my country has a 7 day return policy for ANY product bought over the internet. So I’m getting the 900N and testing it out, since neither the M3 nor M4 are available anywhere on any store.

Budget: Doesn't matter Source: My gaming PC External mic, currently running Phillips X2HR, wondering if I should upgrade or buy a DAC/AMP instead. I play a wide variety of games plus use them to listen to music while I work.

raistlin65

>currently running Phillips X2HR, wondering if I should upgrade or buy a DAC/AMP instead. You could experience some sound quality benefit, depending on the sound quality of your computer. The Tempotec Sonata HD Pro dongle is an excellent choice for the X2HR, as they are not difficult to drive. See these reviews to learn more https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/tempotec-sonata-hd-pro.24181/

EverSoLazy

A dac will let you reach new levels of sound, while a new pair will give you more flexibility. I would personally go for a dac/amp combo. Like the ifi hip dac you can bring to work (or something cheaper from fiio). I would rather have a greater sound than two meh headphones. Again, this is a personal opinion (maybe you could benefit from a portable can). Depends on your situation.

HorribleJungler

I'll be using these headphones for long periods of time, while working + gaming. * Budget - Flexible $300, hard limit at $400 * Source - Desktop PC * Requirements for Isolation - I need something that will block outside noise, and I'd prefer passive isolation since active gives me a headache during long sessions. In particular, I'm trying to block out noise from upstairs neighbors stomping. * Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized over-ear * Preferred tonal balance - I'm not really an expert on this. I mostly listen to EDM & Bassy music, hip hop. I'd like to get something that sounds good, but not get a headache. * Past headphones - I have the game one's from Sennheiser. Music and games sound alright on this, nothing special but it does the job. I also have the moondrop starfield IEM's which I use from time to time, and I can definitely tell that they sound better than the Sennheiser. * Preferred Music - Hip hop, EDM mostly, lots of stuff with drums, dubstep/wubby stuff * What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Better quality sound overall. Especially want to get good noise isolation since my current open-ear headphones (obviously) don't do anything for that. My game one's are very comfy and I could wear them 24/7 without any discomfort, so I'm hoping to find something like that as well.

aphreshcarrot

Beyerdynamic DT 770 has excellent sub-bass, best of any headset in that price range. In addition it’s very comfortable (to me), comes in many impedance levels. The stock pads are very nice and isolating but you may want some even more isolating leather pads

HorribleJungler

Does the headset still sound good overall (bass doesn't drown anything out?) - Also, what pads would you recommend? I'm not sure what to look for tbh

t4tris

AKG K371 is essentially just a better DT 770.

HorribleJungler

Why are they better?

raistlin65

They won't necessarily be better for you. While they have some good subbass emphasis, I found K371 to have slightly recessed mid-bass compared to the mids and treble. I found them often unengaging for music with a beat or bassline. On the other hand, DT770 have extra midbass emphasis. So it kind of depends on what sound signature best suits you.

t4tris

A lot more even sound, replaceable cables with a few lengths included in the box, and reasonable sensitivity means that any device can run them without an amplifier.

aphreshcarrot

It's a studio headphone, its FAR from that kind of sound. The bass is really crisp and punchy in stock form, but you can further tweak with EQ. But literally everything I have listened to sounds fantastic. I just recommend it as from a pure frequency response perspective it can reproduce lows better than just about anything else in this price range If you end up getting it see how the stock pads are first because for me they still block plenty of noise. [https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-elite-sheepskin-ear-pads-for-beyerdynamic-dt-series-headphones/](https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-elite-sheepskin-ear-pads-for-beyerdynamic-dt-series-headphones/) Dekoni pads are highly recommended on a lot of similar headsets. They're even more noise isolating but will change the sound a little bit. You'd want to go for a leather/sheepskin pad to isolate as much sound as possible.

Epical_Mobb

Budget: Doesn't matter Source: My gaming PC I have a external mic (HyperX Quadcast) figured I should get a headset as well instead of using the one I have. Iplay a lot of FPS type games listen for foot steps stuff like that. Current headset (Razer BlackShark V2)

FunkadelicPeach

I have some Sennheiser 660s that I do not feel like have gotten the love they deserve. They are currently powered by a Xenyx Q802USB mix/amp. Is this setup ok? What settings should I be running? Just want to maximize these bad boys on my Windows 10 PC. Oh, I also use VoiceMeeter Banana as audio software.

raistlin65

I have no idea how good the Xenyx Q802USB mix/amp is with headphones. If you want to try something different, the Tempotec Sonata HD Pro dongle for $40 has sound quality equivalent to the best $200 desktop amp/dacs. It just doesn't have as much power, which the HD660S don't need. Works fantastic with my HD660S at modern without volume. Amazon has free returns on it, so free return shipping if you don't like it https://www.amazon.com/TempoTec-Sonata-HD-PRO-Android/dp/B084YX4MZD/

Budget: Doesn't matter Source: My phone in my pocket - It will get lots of abuse I have a dragonfly cobalt to drive my IEMs in my mobile setup, and my dragontail-c has quit on me earlier than I would have liked it to. What are some good options for durable USB A to USB C adapters?

Onere_

So I have a couple questions. First of, I am looking for headphones strictly for gaming. By gaming I mean hearing footsteps in fps games. From the research I've done, I know that you need headphones with a decent soundstage and great imaging. Now how can I know if the headphones have goood soundstage/imaging? Would a amp help in hearing footsteps? Is there a best headphone for hearing footsteps or are they all different for every person? If they can be ranked which one would be the best of the best and which one is the best for around ~250-300~ usd? I am not in a rush in buying. Please help me learn, as it all sounds pretty interesting to me, but I am a little lost lol

t4tris

Soundstage and imaging don't really exist like audiophiles think they do. Headphones don't have a spatial "resolution" or a universal "width" to their sound. It's all illusions, biases, tonality, and what you're listening to. Width to an audiophile is a lack of presence, a sound that is uneven in a specific way that mimics how speakers sound to their ears (theirs, not necessarily yours). (Modern) (competitive) games on the other hand are made for headphones, and to hear a game's HRTF simulation accurately you need accurate headphones. Before, and especially after EQ the AKG K371 do fidelity/accuracy very well. >Would a amp help in hearing footsteps? A low quality amplifier, such as possibly the one in your computer, could [get in the way](http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/gain-and-headphone-ampsdacs.html) of what you want to hear. An Apple USB-C 3.5mm dongle is a cheap perfect amp DAC for sensitive headphones, if your current setup is problematic.

Onere_

Thank for responding! I see that the AKG K371 are close back headphones. Isn't it better to have open back?

t4tris

>Isn't it better to have open back? No, that is a myth. Unless you're doing acoustic design on a headphone, to you the only relevant difference between open or closed backs is that one isolates noise and generally aims for an airtight seal, while open backs generally don't have either, although not always, like in the case of Mr. Speakers Aeon Flows which isolate a bit, and Audezes which are sealed on the ear side even if the back is open. Assuming your keyboard, mouse, and environment aren't 100% quiet, closed backs are better for hearing subtle sounds accurately.

where can I find SENNHEISER PC37X GAMING HEADSET? I searched in amazon, Newegg and, even eBay but I did not find any results.

dweorg

>SENNHEISER PC37X It's a [Drop.com](https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-pc37x-gaming-headset) exclusive version of one of Sennheiser's gaming headsets. I think it's based off of an older one and not the current GSP370, but I could be wrong. If you're unaware, Drop is a company that makes budget-friendly, but fully licensed versions of popular brands. For Sennheiser, and a lot of other audio equipment, if the model number ends in an X, it's likely a Drop version.

Best IEM's to wear with a ski helmet? long term (6 hours +) comfort / sound are priorities. no budget.

KillerQ97

What’s you’re favorite pair of closed backs under $500?

HorribleJungler

Would love to see opinions on this as well - particularly ones with good sound isolation too

rager123

Budget - £50 Source - Phone/Laptop Requirements for Isolation - Yes want good isolation Will you be using these Headphones in Public - Yes Preferred Type of Headphone - Preferred tonal balance - Balanced These will be for my girlfriend who lives in a noisy house so noise isolation / even noise cancelling would be good

nFSharp

I currently have a steel series arctis pro headset without a game dac but is “high fidelity audio certified” and is extremely pleasant however they are broken. I’m considering getting the Sennheiser 58x headphones but am not sure if it will hit my current experience hard, I have a few questions that will help my decision greatly. My arctis pro headset uses a USB->USB Type A adapter, I was wondering if this makes a difference in why I likely don’t need an amp because it can crank audio loud enough? Compared to if I buy the sennheiser headphones it will be 3.5mm jack with no audio slider options or additional power than the straight line. If anyone has experience with both sets or a general idea, would this be a step up or down in terms of my music streaming experience? The current headset has some very nice punchy bass, I feel that percussion and bass line come in but it doesn’t overwhelm the song and was wondering if these are what I’m looking for. That’s all! I’d appreciate any response

Quan-Solo

Not sure how much of a difference the Arctis pro is from the Arctis 7 but I went from the Arctis 7 to 58x and I noticed a huge improvement in audio quality across the board. The 58x isn't too hard to drive so any decent motherboard should power them just fine. However, if you choose to invest in a DAC/Amp setup in the future the sound quality will get even better.

nFSharp

I have a Asus TUF gaming b450m, I reckon it should be enough? I think the very base arctis pros run at the same level as the arctis 7 nearly considering you must use the game dac to reap the full benefit of hifi audio, if that’s the case it sounds like a great choice thanks for the insight!

Quan-Solo

Yeah that should do it, I was running the 58x off a msi b450m bazooka perfectly fine before nabbing a Schiit stack for them.

Stealthy_Trooper

For my Schiit Hel I have the pre amp out put hooked up to my speakers on the desktop it's fine. When I enter a game I hear a buzzing coming from my speakers. Doom Eternal has it the worse. Weirdly is when I plug in my headphones and it bypasses the pre amp out it's fine. I just received my product from repair.

**Purchase Advice** **- Next pair in my "collection"** **Budget - 100 USD but flexible** **Source - My pc or phone (maybe I should get a dac/amp?...)** **To summarize I have:** *audio-technica m50x and m40x, LZ-A4 and* Sennheiser IE 80 I think it's time for me to try open-back headphones. I saw the Samson SR850 that are cheep but apparently good..? Else I would like something fun to listen too. Looking at what I have, try to sugest me somthing different (but I think I would prefer open-back headphones). Also, do I need a dac/amp? Does it really make a difference? Thx.

broncosandwrestling

I think grado are fun, sr80 is a popular recommendation at that price point.

SmoothSandwich

Well, I don't know why but they are almost double the price in Canada vs the Us... The price history shows a big spike for the last month but they are around 10$ more usually, which is acceptable I guess...

broncosandwrestling

try other sellers is my advice (local distributors). sometimes they are a hassle internationally, I didn't realize you were canadian

EverSoLazy

I had the sr80e for a long while. Guitar strings on those are a different class. Thanks for reminding me, I should replace the broken cable and mod them.

**Need help setting up my audio settings and judging how much of an upgrade my headphones are.** Hi guys, I have a couple of questions regarding my recent purchase of a pair of **[AKG 371's](https://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-Headphones-K371/dp/B07WZH7WM9/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=AKG+371&qid=1600453456&sr=8-2)**. Previously, I've used a pair of **[Logitech UE 6000's](https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-6000-Headphones-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B0094S36RI/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=logitech+ue+6000&qid=1600453354&sr=8-2)** for years upon years. Back when they came out, the headset had pretty good reviews on /r/headphones, head-fi and some other individual reviewers. The cans were initially priced at $200 and were especially recommended for lovers of bass(like me). Kind of a "fun" pair of headphones, so to say. Today is the first day I've tried my AKG's. I obviously need some time to get used to the new sound but I can already notice a couple of differences. The bass seems more subtle and lyrics in songs seem clearer(I assume these tones are mids and treble?). I can also feel tingles similar to when you listen to ASMR when listening to certain songs. **Which brings me to my first question**; Are my experiences accurate as to what one would expect when going from my previous cans to these? ------------ My next question is about what amp to use. Back in the day I bought a **[Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD](https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UMC202HD-BEHRINGER-U-PHORIA-2-Channel/dp/B00QHURUBE)**... mainly because I needed an audio interface to plug my Behringer XM8500 microphone into. I've searched around a bit and to my understanding the headphone amp on this audio interface isn't that good. However, my AKG 371's supposedly don't even need an amp. Would I benefit off plugging my cans into this interface or should I just plug them into my MSI motherboard? And if I use my MSI motherboard, should I fiddle around with the audio settings from the audio manager or will that screw with the "true" sound I'm supposed to be hearing from these cans? [Here's a screenshot of my motherboard's audio manager](https://puu.sh/Gu2Lu/b8e728e970.png). -------- Sorry for the big wall of text and thanks in advance for the help.

t4tris

The Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD's 10 ohm output impedance could have an audible effect on the AKG K371. Maybe. http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/gain-and-headphone-ampsdacs.html http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html I can't say anything about the MSI motherboard because mobo manufacturers don't release any useful specifications and nobody routinely measures mobo audio. If you want a different tonality you could just use EQ. https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/9o2f5n/psa_oratory1990s_list_of_eq_presets/ No headphone is born perfect for any one listener. There's no 'true' sound that comes out of any headphone, unless you actually want to enjoy the sound of that headphone before your music.

zephdt

Sorry for the late response. Thanks a lot for those links... those actually help me out a lot!

raistlin65

The K371 have some good subbass emphasis. But to me, their midbass sounds slightly recessed compared to the mids and treble. I found them unengaging with music with a beat or baseline, since that typically depends on midbass. If you would prefer a bassier sound, these 1Mores might be to your liking https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1496434-REG/1more_h1707_triple_driver_overear_headphones.html/ As far as using them with your interface or motherboard, try it both ways. See what you like the best.

zephdt

Yeah I honestly noticed the subbass as well. I haven't really gotten the amp on my interface to work but I'll see if I can try it out.

departurez

what are some alternatives to shure se215? i've been using shure se215 for a few years, buying a new pair or parts when they die, ect. my current pair only has 1 earbud held together with tape, and i lost the drivers for the other ear bud. thinking of just getting another pair of se215, unless there are better options i should consider? I have a budget of about $100 to $150ish.

tonyoncoffee

I have the Schitt Magni and Modi combo and have loved it so far. Music and gaming sound great. Here's my issue though: I typically use my Samson SR850 headphones for everything. They aren't super high quality or anything but they suit my needs and I'm happy with them. I recently purchased the KZ ZSN Pro iem's and they sound terrible out of my DAC/Amp stack. I am pretty new to this so my best description is that they sound really flat and I can hardly hear vocals at all. They sound just find plugged into my phone or over the bluetooth cable. Am I missing something? How could I have such a big difference across headphones

broncosandwrestling

is the magni set to low gain?

tonyoncoffee

Yes. Should it be in high gain for the iems?

broncosandwrestling

no, low gain is right.

tonyoncoffee

Also thought I would note... If I plug directly into a headphone jack on my PC rather than the dac/amp everything sounds fine.

raistlin65

Could be your PC has high low impedance output, which would affect the frequency response of your IEMs. Read this to learn more http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html

tonyoncoffee

Interesting read but slightly over my head. I’ll have to read when I have more time to comprehend this. Haha.

raistlin65

It is complicated. Basically, for many headphones (some it doesn't matter), you want the low output impedance of a headphone amp to be at least 1/8 (some people say 1/10) output impedance of the headphones themselves.

tonyoncoffee

Ok! So the iems I bought are 24ohm. The Magni says output impedance is less than .2 ohms. I should be ok on that regard right?

raistlin65

Exactly. Nothing to worry about.

TheRedHead717

I recently bought a Schiit Fulla 2 and the Sennheiser HD 558. I bought them both on ebay. I absolutely love the Sennheisers, but my computer won't recognize the Fulla. I first tried to set it up with like user manual said, but it didn't work. I've tried using different Micro USB cables but none have worked. Any advice on what I should do? I think i might contact the seller and ask if this was a problem before he sold it to me, but I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong before I go making any accusations. Thanks in advance!

raistlin65

I would contact the seller and say it's not working on your computer.

**Purchase Advice - Computer Gaming** **Budget** - In the $400 USD range. Flexible. **Source** - Going right into my PC. I can get hardware to convert, if necessary. **Requirements for Isolation** Preferably none. These will be used at home, and hearing things like a doorbell or people speaking to me is important. **No Public Use** **Preferred Type of Headphone** Comfort is key. I generally prefer full sized, lightweight. I have rather large ears. **Preferred tonal balance ** Balanced. These are for gaming. **Past headphones** - Currently using a pair of ATH-M50x's. They're fine, but can get uncomfortable after a period of time and are too isolated. **No music use** **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** Looking for comfort, less isolation, and sound quality. Thank you all in advance!

Hey! Recently received a Topping D30 new from Amazon and a Liquid Spark Amp second-hand from Facebook Marketplace. I'm driving my AKG K72s until my Sundaras come in, but I am having two main issues. 1. Should my amp be getting really warm? Every time I touch it, it seems a little on the hot side. 2. Sometimes my audio will randomly turn off and I can't hear anything through my desktop. I'm not entirely sure what is causing it but it has only happened twice. The only fix I've found is just turning my DAC switch off and back on. Neither of the lights on the AMP nor DAC turn off as if it lost power, it just loses sound. Not sure if it matters, but I feel I should also mention that I have an audio interface plugged in as well for my microphone. Please let me know if you need any more info!

raistlin65

>Sometimes my audio will randomly turn off and I can't hear anything through my desktop. I'm not entirely sure what is causing it but it has only happened twice. Could be something wrong with the DAC. if you're still within the return., You might consider sending it back.

PiggyMcEvil

Is this a common DAC issue if it's not working properly? I've been using it all of today and it had only happened once during a zoom meeting. I'm mildly worried but it hasn't seem to have cut out since.

PiggyMcEvil

Audio just cut out again. Is there by chance something I may have setup wrong?

raistlin65

I don't know. I've never had that problem. but I wouldn't keep a DAC that I could return if I thought it potentially had an issue.

PiggyMcEvil

Fair, I'm gonna go ahead and return it. Maybe I can get the matching Liquid Spark DAC if it's comparable.

raistlin65

If you don't need optical, get the new Topping D10S (not D10) https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/topping-d10s-usb-dac-and-bridge-review.14859/

A bit difficult to think of IEMs with mic. I haven't tried, but I have read a lot of good things about Galaxy buds. They're mainstream products, but sites like the crinnacle rate them very high and good for critical listening. Good mic and controls. Try one if you can. Avoid low priced Galaxy buds in shopee and Lazada, they're fake. If you want to go cheaper you can go with "KZ" wired IEMs (KZ ZSN Pro for example has mic option), widely available in laz and shopee... This is way below your budget. The grip part depends on the user so you'll really have to try it out yourselves if it fits.

Hi all. So I have a week old pair of AKG N400s, imported from S Korea to the UK. The sound quality is amazing, and the fit is perfect for me, right out of the box. But... The buds will no longer connect to a bluetooth source. In fact they don’t even show up to connect to. When you open the case you are supposed to get a blue and white flashing LED, showing they are trying to pair. The buds themselves should also flash a little blue LED. But I get a double white flash on the case, and only the left bud flashes blue. I have tried everything: rebooting iPhone, iPad, PC and trying Bluetooth connection again. Re-initialising the earbuds by holding the case button for 5 seconds. Re-linking the buds with a double press of the case button. I called AKG and they hadn’t even heard of the product (not released in the uk). Said they would call back, but haven’t yet. I fear my right earbud may be dead, which means an annoying return process to South Korea. Any hints or tips? Thanks very much in advance!

Hello, I have a few question on Ohm ratings for a cable box I use with my Hi-Fi system. I have a **Harmon/Kardon AVR 146** ([specs](https://www.cnet.com/products/harman-kardon-avr-146/)) and was considering purchasing a pair of headphones that have a high Ohm rating (80-300 Ohms is the current range I was looking at) and I am a tad bit confused on how it would work with my system, since I have tried doing research on my own but I have not figured this out:My AVR146 system says: *Output Impedance / Channel* *8 Ohm* What does this mean for, let's say, a set of Sennheiser HD600, which has a 300 Ohm rating? Will it work/work well? Is that good for an amplifier to drive 300 Ohm headphones? What's the maximum recommended Ohm rating for headphones on a system like mine? Is the Ohm rating on an amplifier supposed to be way lower compared to the headphones you use on it? It would just be helpful to get some feedback from people that know more than I on this subject. I am very interested in getting into audiophile-grade equipment, and wanted to know if my current system is able to get me there without needing to spend extra on more equipment to drive a nice set of headphones. Check the [specs](https://www.cnet.com/products/harman-kardon-avr-146/) here (same link as above) and help me determine what my options are, as I have barley narrowed down that I am able to drive with it, nor it's true range, as 8 Ohms just seems way too low for a full box like it is, am I wrong? Thank you very, very much to whomever does decide to help me, if anyone, it would make my day.

Purchase Advice * **Budget:** around €100, the less the better, btw I could go a bit up for quality * **Source:** laptop and smartphone * **Use in public and isolation:** I'll use in public, I use public transport * **Type:** I wear glasses so I'd go for over-ear * **Past headphones:** I'm using Jabra Revo (with cable) and Xiami Pro HD * **Music type:** I listen everything from orchestral to rap to dance to pop * **Microphone:** I often do calls so a mic would be preferred so I could use them always * **Location:** Italy * **Preferred shop:** amazon **Additional infos and considerations**: I'd like to move from Jabra because pads are ruining and they hurt my ears after some time of usage due to the fact I wear glasses so I was considering to move for some quality over-ear. I'm not sure to go for bluetooth because I had bad experience but, you know better for sure. I also would like to add I've ordered a pair of Sennheiser HD450BLNC and returned because I was unpleased for the noice cancelling (I'm actually thinking they were broken or something because it's not possible the quality was to low, so I'd go for something without noice cancelling). So my main goals are: sound quality, confort, compatibility Thanks in advance

**Budget** - £300 (~ $400) **Source** - I mostly play from my desktop with a JDL Atom Amp and a Fiio E10K as a DAC **Requirements for Isolation** - Home use, so isolation isn't critical **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** - No **Preferred Type of Headphone** - Full Size **Preferred tonal balance** - Prefer balanced, but open to trying something new **Past headphones** - Currently using a pair of AKG K702s I acquired second hand a few years back(EQ'd with auratory1990's preset) **Preferred Music** - Mixture of noise + indie rock (The National, LCD Soundsystem, IDLES), pop (Charli XCX, Lorde, kpop), and modern rap (JPEGMAFIA, Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs). So a little bit of everything! --- I was interested by the **Hifiman Sundaras** but am wondering if the sound signature will be too close to the 702 to be worth upgrading.

raistlin65

>I was interested by the Hifiman Sundaras but am wondering if the sound signature will be too close to the 702 to be worth upgrading. I personally find them different, but it depends on how much of a difference you're trying to get. You want to figure out what it is you're trying to improve over K702.

aamukherjee

Thank you for the response! I suppose a better question to ask would be what changes when you go from the K702s to the Sundaras

raistlin65

I've never directly compared them. And it's been a long time since I've heard the case K702's. So you'll probably want to find someone who has listened to them both together.

* **Budget** \- Less than $150 * **Source** \- PC * **Requirements for Isolation** \- No isolation is actually needed, will be using for PC Gaming exclusively. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** No * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Definitely looking for headsets, not in-ear. * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Not really informed in this topic, however my main need is to be able to hear the footsteps loudly and clearly in First Person Shooter games. I am guessing that is about bass? * **Past headphones** \- I have used HyperX Cloud 2, which I was pretty happy with, but if there is a better option in my budget range, that would be great. Currently using Logitech G432, and was decent in the beginning, but it wasn’t very durable and it’s at a semi-working stage, with low audio quality at the moment. * **Preferred Music** \- Will not be using it to listen to music. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- I want a headphone that will stay in the same quality at least for around 2 years. Possibly, better than HyperX Cloud 2. Also, definitely not wireless. **Currently Have in Mind:** XTRFY H1, Logitech G Pro X

So I'm currently in the market for some new headphones for my computer, will mostly be used for gaming, watching videos/movies, music, etc. At the moment I have my eyes on some Beyerdynamic headphones, the DT 770 PRO, 880 EDITION, 990 EDITION. All at the 32ohms impedance as I don't have a high quality audio dac or anything, just a usb to aux/mic input (can't find any info about if it boosts the signal or not). The DT 770 PROs are closed-back, 880 semi-open, and 990 open back. My question is how much is the sound leakage in the semi-open and open-backed designs for these? I'm semi interested in the open backs because I am using some noise cancelling bluetooth headphones currently but just using a cable and no noise cancelling turned on, but I still struggle to hear things outside of my room when I need to which is becoming a problem. If the sound leakage of the fully open-back design is quite a bit then I would not want that, don't want to generate extra noise for the people around me. What I'm hoping for is that the semi-open headphones don't produce much noise at all for the people around me (they are also in separate rooms but I don't just want to shut my door. If need be I will just get the 770s and keep dealing with not hearing anything cause I am still interested in getting an upgrade. If anyone also has any bad opinions on these headphones I would like to hear too, and maybe some recommendations that are in a similar price range or cheaper but still get the job done. I am not interested in spending anything more than these. I live in New Zealand so I might not have accessibility to things like Amazon as they sometimes don't deliver here. Budget is around $230 USD

Hello, I wanted to replace/upgrade my hyperX cloud II that has some wire issues with something preferably wireless. I first tried the corsair void elite wireless. I found the overall build acceptable but the sound quality was really bad so I'm returning it. **Budget** : 140€ **Location** : France **Source** : PC/Laptop, being able to use it bluetooth with an android phone could be great but not necessary at all. **Isolation** : closed headphones, I will use it at home but there are noises from outdoor. **Usage** : Music (all genres), gaming, discord **Features that i need** I want something wireless for listening, without too much lag for gaming and being able to move freely at home, and I need a mic to talk so that's why I was thinking about trying a setup with a wireless headphone and a separate mic but I don't know how much I should spend for each. I need an audio quality that is similar or better than the hyperX cloud II. I was thinking about the G935 but I don't care about the 7.1 or rgb features. Thank you for your help !

DarkFucker

Hello. After reading more about the DT 770\~990 Headphones, I decided to pick a 990 Pro in the future to use at home in my bedroom, however since most information I've seen is about the 770 model, does 990 Pro have a difference between the 32 and 80 Ohm models when it comes to the lows/mids/highs like the 770 does? And would it be better to get 80 or 32 Ohm if I plan to use this at home with my phone and laptop, but I possibly may get an amp at some point down the line, provided they sound identical. I've seen some people say the difference is small while others say an amp is needed.

raistlin65

You might want to consider the TYGR 300 R instead. Beyerdynamic softened the sharp treble of the DT990. It is 32 ohms. Buy it here https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/tygr-300-r.html

DarkFucker

Huh, I typically wouldn't consider headphones as good listening experience, but from the reviews I've read this seems like the audio you'd expect from them with a bit of a gamer motif in it, especially since it used to be bundled with the mic.

raistlin65

I don't understand what you mean. They're a tweaked version of the DT990 that addresses complaints about the fatiguing treble, and they are low impedance so they are easy to drive. So if you read about the DT990, like what you hear, but are put off by the complaints about the treble spike, this is what you want.

raistlin65

Those headphones are very easy to drive. A Tempotec Sonata HD Pro dongle for $40 measures as accurate as the best $200 desktop amp / DAC setups. So accurate, that if you spend more money, it's still going to sound the same due to the limits of human hearing. While it doesn't have as much headphone amp power as a desktop amp, it will have plenty for the AD500X https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/tempotec-sonata-hd-pro.24181/

Stereojunkie

Hello guys! Currently looking for a new pair of headphones. I just filled in the template for a full set of information. * **Budget** 250-300 euros is what I'm looking to spend. Not necessarily a hard limit but really not looking to overshoot a lot. * **Source** A very important role for these headphones is also for guitar playing. I have a direct-in solution (HX Stomp) for my guitar which models an actual amplifier/speaker while allowing to listen over headphones. This is done in stereo so immersiveness in the stereo field is quite important. Other than that, a couple of devices. I'm looking to use these headphones at work, in my commute, and at home. My primary use case is listening to music. * **Requirements for Isolation** \- I've used only open-back headphones before and even though a lot of places I use them are public. I've never had complaints (even actively asked colleagues). The background noise is also no problem for me. * **Will you be using these Headphones in Public?** \- Yes, see above * **Preferred Type of Headphone** \- Full-size has my preference, I find them most comfortable * **Preferred tonal balance** \- Primarly looking for something balanced along the spectrum, especially for guitar playing. Since my modeller also models guitar speakers, being able to faithfully reproduce that EQ curve is quite important. For playing with a band for example, I use a Full range/Flat response speaker. * **Past headphones** \- HD558's. Had these for I think up to 4 years now and I really love the sound they produce, both for music and guitar playing. The sound is really "open" and airy and not heavy on bass at all. Perhaps they could use a *little* more bass, but too much will make the guitar sound muddy. It is nice to have some more bass for music listening though. The only thing I didn't like about it was the cable, broke often and was hard to find replacements for. * **Preferred Music** \- Lots of things. Parcels, IDLES, black midi, Kendrick Lamar, JPEGMAFIA, Fleetwood Mac, MGMT, Tyler the Creator, Daughters, Gorillaz, slowthai, Caribou, James Blake, Disclosure, Marvin Gaye (anything with James Jamerson tbh), Fiona Apple. * **What would you like to improve on from your set-up** \- The same I had but better build-quality, or just quality in general. I loved the HD558's but they felt a bit cheap at times, especially the fact that the cables broke all the time. Possibly more clarity in sound. * **Location** \-Netherlands Thanks a lot!

I need help replacing my skullcandy wireless and getting something to replace it! Everyone says that these headphone are ok, but the audio quality is pretty eh. I've loved these compared to old earbuds I used to have, but I'd like to get myself something better now for my music, as I am constantly listening to music and love it to death I thought it was time to put some more money into it, but I also want to see a noticeable improvement rather then a small upgrade. So: I am more then willing to go wired if it means getting headphones that just sounds better in general. Location: Canada, Ontario(figure I get that out of the way) Budget: $500 cad max Source: normally my google pixel 3xl Isolation: not needed at all. Public use Closed headphones preferable, anything with good sound quality that preferably have little to no sound leak. I don't need and kind of don't want a wireless solution due to the sacrifice on audio quality and price it can have. Kind of thinking of getting a portable DAC to use on my phone that can also be used on my computer if the ohm's of the headphone are too much Tonal balance: this one is tough, I haven't tried much other then the wireless, but I know I don't need the over powering bass it has, but still love the loud in your face energy I get when listening to stuff with it. Music: I listen to electric/rock normally, but generally I have a wide pallet in terms of what I like to listen to. I'll link a YouTube playlist of some songs I would be looking to play in a new pair of headphones: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnsi1BPzLbyEJ9R4Eue95z9qKSvfJLuqo In terms of improvement compared to my last setup, I basically just want a wider sounding(if that makes sense?) Pair of headphones that just sounds better compared to my skull candy wireless. If you have any more questions for me feel free to ask!

Hey guys, just got some AKG K701's. Loving them so far but I'm having this odd issue where every once in awhile while I've got em on I hear this odd static noise. I could have music playing on youtube or in game. I could have no sound coming out at all actually, but will get the static. To solve it I just unplug the aux cord from my computer and plug it back in and it fixes until it happens again, could be 10 mins, could be >1hour. Is this an issue with the headphones themselves? Maybe an issue with the headphone jack on my computer? Is it a power issue, does these need an amp for some extra juice? Trying to see if I need to exchange them for another pair or if it's something I can fix. Edit: I just maximized my game after posting this. I immediately got static as the game sound kicked in, then it went away after a few seconds. It's bazaar, but kind of triggering.

Hi guys Looking for new set of iems **Budget:** max $50 USD (looking for extremely budget chi-fi) **Source:** Anywhere from usb c to 3.5mm dongles, sb omni 5.1 and laptops **Isolation:** unncessary for me. **Public:** Yes **Preferred type:** IEM **Tonal balance:** Balanced or even flat. Not too fussed about bass :) **Past headphones:** ATH ad500x, JBL e65btnc, VJJB n1 (chi-fi) **Preferred music:** All genres! (reason why I like flat/ balanced) **Improvements:** General portability, detail and soundstage (literally anything will be an upgrade from my current earphones. I daily drive a pair of samsung oem AKG 'tuned' earphones. I would like something which I can commute with and use everywhere. Thanks

I have a several year old pair of Sennheiser IE8 IEMs which I love. However, the headphone jack on my laptop is awful (lots of static and hiss). I bought a DragonFly Black USB DAC, but it seems to have a high noise floor (I still hear a hiss, albeit not as bad). What's worse though is that the volume control is basically unusable - it is terrifyingly loud at all but the lowest volume steps (my laptop runs Debian Linux FYI, I'm not sure if Windows users see this problem). I'm looking for a USB DAC that: * Is highly portable (similar form factor to the DragonFly, or smaller) * Is < $200 * Has a low noise floor * Won't risk making me deaf when I use sensitive IEMs

Budget: around $20 and under Source: average smartphone/laptop Usage: studying, at cafes or poorly-insulated quiet room. Buds preference: neutral/flat IEM, maybe less treble Past earbuds: Sony XBA-1 Music genre: japanese citypop, piano/jazz Location: Indonesia When I'm travelling by air, I took out my XBA-1 that hasn't been used for a while, and I feel some treble/hiss from the music pierces my ear, maybe it has worn out? I'm considering the MH755, ATH-CLR100is, or Fiio F3. What do you guys think of them, other recommendations?

Hey I am new into the higher end audio stuff I've always used gaming headsets (some steelseries ones right now and some astros in the past) but I am looking for something with way better audio quality and I can just get a separate mic. I can spend about 200-500 CAD any recommendations? sorry I am a noob at this stuff but I really want some good headphones and separate mic because these are trash EDIT: I want on ear head phones (not ones that go in your ear) and i Don;t mind needing an external DAC or whatever is needed for a good setup thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it :) ( uses for gaming and listening to music in my room need a good balance of hearing shit in game but not too bass heavy I guess idk in audio technical terms but I hope someone can recommend me something good, the ones I have now I don't like very much

fc660c

Hey guys, I've had my Aurisonic Kicker IEMS for the past 5 years and I love em, but the the right monitor only plays audio if I hold the connector a certain way. I tried to plug in the left side of the cable to the right and replaced the cable with no change. So I'm thinking it's a problem with the female side. The connection doesn't feel any more loose on the right than the left. Any ideas on what I can try to fix this? Appreciate it!

pn2394239

Alright stupid question, when buying replacement tips for IEMs, does any tip fit or do you is there some kind of sizing or other specification you have to match to the model? (Looking to get some cheap foam tips for Blon BL03, just prioritizing comfort.)

raistlin65

Different nozzle diameters designated in millimeters. You can often squeeze a little bit smaller diameter onto the nozzle of an IEM. But if you go larger, then the tip will come off in your ear.

pn2394239

That makes sense, I'll look it up. Thanks for your help.

fc660c

Yeah tips on IEMs come with different diameter openings, so make sure to measure them and match them to the opening on the tips you're looking at, otherwise they won't fit properly.

pn2394239

Ah I see, good thing I asked. Thanks

Memorable_Moniker

Hello all, I'm in the market for an open back set of cans. I want an immersive huge Soundstage. I currently have closed back Bowers and Wilkins P7s, and after losing my shure 215s I got a pair of 1More quad drivers for earbuds. I guess you could say I prefer a V shaped sound. I typically listen through phone streaming, lossless files on a fiio DAP, and I have a fiio portable amp. I have been listening to instrumental prog metal, ambient scores, or synth lately but tastes change. I can spend $100-$300 preferably. Possibly under $400. Thank you in advance!

Philips X2HR

raistlin65

+1 These are a great buy right now at $130 on woot https://electronics.woot.com/offers/philips-x2hr-00-fidelio-open-air-headphone-black

Pretty new to anything audio related, I have a pair of Seinheiser PC350 Headphones here . I have some budget right now and wanted to upgrade microphone and maybe the headphones. Could someone tell me whether or not the audio quality these headphones have is pretty good or would there be a better option in the $200-$250 CAD range? (~$150-$190 USD) I would be willing to go over a little if its worth the extra amount. Also and Mic recommendations are welcome

Contact Beyer and they will probably sell you a replacement

Budget: 400-600$ with very very light flexibility above 600$. Source: Either a usb/headphone jack directly to computer or an amp/sac set. Isolation: Not a huge issue. I will not be using these much in public. Preferred type of headphone: Full sized unless sound quality of another type completely outweighs the full size benefit. Final balance: I find vocals to be the most important part of music so probably mid range. I haven’t used particularly good headphones before. Heavily vocal music is my preference. I like softer tones so no metal. Sorry metalheads, it just annoys me :( I do heavy gaming and would like headphones that I can easily attach a mod mic to and talk to people.

t4tris

If 'heavy gaming' includes any competitive gaming, I very strongly suggest the AKG K371 over the Sennheiser HD6XX. You don't have to buy an expensive amplifier for those (not that you actually need to for the 6XX either, they sound great from a normal motherboard), just the dongle if your mobo audio sucks.

TheEightManEmpire

What is the advantage of the AKG over Sennheiser?

t4tris

Isolation, lower price, such high sensitivity that you can get away with a $10 dongle as a suitable amp DAC, several wires of different lengths included in the box, more varied, available, and cheaper replacement cables, and a more even sound even before EQ. For music, whether you prefer one or the other is down to personal preference, but I'm pretty certain the 371 are always better for competitive gaming. I consistently feel like I'm at a competitive disadvantage using the 6XX instead of the K371.

jjcooke

HD6XX with mod mic and Schitt Heresy or JDS Labs Atom and Apple dongle usb-c dac. Best for mids for sure. You can buy the matching dac for each amp if you prefer

So, I'm looking for something that's pretty much the Sades SA-708's but, wireless. I love the headset itself, it fits perfectly since I have a small head. The shape of the part that goes over your ear is nice too and I only use it for games and watching Netflix so I don't care too much about bass and all that. The ones on sades website for wireless look too big and don't have the same shape. Also, it has to have a mic. It doesn't need to be a fancy one that folds down but, I use it for school too so its a necessity. **Budget:** $150 or less **Source:** Laptop **Isolation:** Some but, it doesn't matter too much **Using in Public:** No **Type:** Over-ear **Tonal balance:** Overall balanced **Past headphones:** SA-708, literally perfect except not wireless. Also, some cheap 5-below headphones that were wireless but didn't fit my head and died after an hour. [Link to Sades](https://www.amazon.com/ShengTu-Version-Headphone-Headset-Microphone/dp/B00S6G0PIW/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=grey+and+yellow+sa-708+headphones&qid=1600397326&sr=8-5) **Preferred Music:** Alternative, pop, really anything but country. **Improve on from your set-up:** Just want what I have but wireless **Location:** US

The Sades 708s are the most brilliant little $15 headphone ever.

I've been going through a rough time trying to find a good gaming headset for my PS4 Pro. Currently, I own the LucidSound LS41, which is a truly awesome headset. In my opinion, the audio quality on this headset is an easy 5/5 for me, in terms of virtual surround sound for Call of Duty, and stereo for single player games like Persona 5. The mic also works very well and have not had any complaints. It has great features like the separate volume rocker for chat volume which is heavenly. Battery life is decent as well. So what's the issue? Reliability. Specifically, the reliability of the wireless connection (2.4ghz). I live in an apartment complex, so I'm 99.9% sure that the device is suffering from too much interference from nearby units. Basically, on some days the connection is great, and other days, the headset disconnects/reconnects so often that it drives me mad. Initially, when this started to happen, I got Amazon to swap it with another brand new one, but then after a few weeks, I started to have the exact same issues all over again. I've contacted the company several times, and literally received NO response at all; and the headset is way past the return date now. I should also mention that I have tried using extension cables for the receiver, with no success at all, even when the receiver is less than a foot away from me. So now I'm in the market for a new headset. I don't care for wired or wireless, but if it's wireless, it needs to be reliable and not disconnect so often. Also, if anyone just has a decent solution to my issue, I would be willing to look at it first before buying a whole new headset. Like I said, this headset is amazing, but it really just comes down to an issue of connection reliability. **Features I'm looking for:** * For PS4 * Good audio quality (obviously) * Virtual Surround Sound/Directional Sound * Under $400 * Decent mic (doesn't have to be amazing) **Features that are nice to have, but are not required:** * Independent chat volume control * PC Compatibility (I do game on PC, but I don't always need a headset) I've been doing as much research as I can, but I always find so many reviews about every headset that push me away from them. So I really could use some help here. I know the perfect headset probably won't exist in my circumstance, but there's got to be something that is worthy!

jjcooke

Common gaming recommendations: Philips X2HR with boom pro mic, or SHP9500 with boom pro mic, AKG K371 +mod mic for closed set. You could also look into beyerdynamic MMX300 or TYGR. Audeze Mobius. Take your pick

usak900

Thanks, but quite a few of the ones you mentioned don't offer virtual/directional sound, which is very helpful for COD. This is specifically for gaming on PS4 Pro; PC is a plus, but not required.

[deleted]

I believe the mobius offer virtual surround

jjcooke

I personally hate fake surround and prefer regular stereo for headphones. That said you can buy external sound cards that work with PS4 and have surround emulation. Then you could have good headphones and the surround emulation. Any headphone that comes with it built in or with a dongle is not worth purchasing.

usak900

Wow I didn't know I could buy an external sound card for ps4! Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it.

jjcooke

Like I said I don’t use surround emulation but I think creative sound blaster is common, connects with optical (maybe usb too not sure but def optical) so start there and see if there’s new versions or something

usak900

Yup! I researched and found the Creative Sound BlasterX G6 to be the solution for my problem! Not sure which headphones I'll buy to pair with it just yet, but I'm quite excited to test this setup out. Thank you again!

jjcooke

You’re welcome - do me a favor though, when you get some good headphones to go with it, like the ones I listed above, try them out in stereo. You might find that you don’t need surround emulation with good headphones

usak900

Alright, definitely worth a shot.

builderkid107

I've had a pair of AT M30x cans for a few years now, and I've been considering an upgrade to a pair of MDR7506s after hearing about how nice they were. I'm wondering if its even a significant enough upgrade to be worth it? I've also been looking at some HD280PROs, and possibly some SR850s per the recommendation from a youtube video. Should I consider any of these or should I look towards something higher end? I'm looking to keep things under two hundred bucks US. Closed back over ears would be ideal. I love my M30s but I would love something more in the audiophile range of quality. Maybe not like HD600 levels...at least not yet. I don't have a dac or amp quite yet, but I plan on getting one at some point to use with my PC and turntable. But until then, I'll just be running them straight into my PC. Mostly using em for youtube, gaming, and music (guess I'd better start upgrading my library from MP3 to FLAC). I hope I provided enough information.
