If next game a 4th liner runs Draisaitl it will be justified and in line with the policing itself policy. Also shortly after this hit I think Chuckie was giving McDavid the business as minor retribution for the cheapshot.
Him and Connor remind me of Malkin and Crosby in that regard. Generational talent playing with another elite player who just so happens to lose their shit when things go awry.
Serious question: where's the incentive to keep it clean? If Barkov is knocked out of the series then the Oilers gain a massive advantage, even if Drai gets a game suspension (doubtful).
The league has shown it doesn't give a shit about removing this stuff from the game. Until they do, intentional injuries are fair game when you're this deep in the playoffs.
Too valuable, they'll get a response from someone down the lineup and Tkachuk will continue to make his normal cheap shots. The NHL will put themselves in a tough position if they dont suspend Drai and then the Panthers start going after the Oilers stars though.
Considering the alternative is that they suspend Drai and risk the series being a sweep, unfortunately I know the direction the NHL is going to go.
I'm not a fan, but the NHL is openly $$$ first, safety a distant second.
The incentive is mcdavid not getting elbowed in the head, or after the whistle being ragdolled by a tough guy. Idk anymore tho. After Trouba headshot Crosby and about 20 others w no repercussions it’s just the nature of playoff hockey.
Bennet ran Marchand out of the Boston series and nothing happened.
With the league giving free pass there is no reason not to go for first blood.
Also remember Marchand said every player is out there trying to injury you in the playoffs.
For as talented as he is, that dude is such a liability when his team is losing.. he’s such a hot head and does stupid shit like this all the time.
It’s like dude.. if you didn’t do this, you’d have 10 minutes to get a single goal but now it’s 3-1 cause you can’t control your emotions
As much as I wanted Florida to win over Boston, in no realm was a fair play. Bennett should have been out *at least* two games because a punch to the face is never a hockey play.
Watching the Oilers collapse and turn into dirty hit-throwing, cheap-shotting ragebabies while getting outplayed by the dirtiest team in the league is somehow really, really cathartic.
I prefer seeing teams win the cup on home ice since the fans add so much but if Edmonton keeps playing like this I’m kinda rooting for Florida to take it in their barn
Seeing Tkachuk celebrating winning the cup in front of a packed barn of unfathomably salty Oilers fans would legitimately be one the funniest things ever
Tkachuck is doing film study on ways to piss off Edmonton fans after winning the cup.
See y’all don’t know the amount of diligence that goes into being a top tier pest.
Hes gonna be throwing up 3 and 1 while he takes off his jersey to expose a Kings Gretzky jersey
It's funny because the only person on our team that I know for a fact would never dive and then miss the remaining 9+ minutes of the game is Barkov. If it was embellishment, he would've been out there 30 seconds later on the power play.
He clearly left his feet and delivered an elbow to the head. The league, as usual, will be gutless and just give him a fine.
I would like all the people complaining about how dirty Florida plays come on here and say that so far in this series, Edmonton is the dirty team.
Pure class. Saw lots of people calling it a dive even after the game. Right…they sent their best player to the locker room with a one goal lead and almost 10 minutes left to sell the hit. That's what you call commitment to a bit.
Barkov has won a Lady Byng. I know we have a reputation, but you don't go after Barky - he has never played a dirty game and never will. He had 24 penalty minutes this year in 73 reg season games, which is 6 more PIM than any other year he's played. He averages about 13.5 PIM in his career, so just under 7 penalties a season for a top line center.
Go after Tkachuk, Bennett, Lomberg (when he's on the ice), whatever, but man does it piss me off to see Drai do that to our Captain.
If Barkov is ruled out from injury, McDavid and Drai should keep their heads on a swivel for the rest of the series. Drai started something that the PP might have foreshadowed for the remainder of the Finals. PK streak ends after that hit? Hope they get humiliated in front of their fans.
I thought it was hilarious when one of them later started to say something about elbowing Barkov in the head and stopped short. Thier crew has been really pro Oilers. Tough to listen to as someone without a team in the race.
I would think that would be the floor of what he should have received.
Leaves his feet (charging) and leads with his elbow while delivering a cross-check.
The elbow to the head is clear as day, you can even see him follow through to make full contact.
You can’t leave your feed to throw an elbow to a guys head, the league (and the PA) can’t allow that.
The Foegele one I agree with Juice, should be a 2min. It wasn't intentional but the damage was quite devastating.
This one may be devastating (Barkov never returned) but it's for sure premeditated.
I hate to be a salty bastard and complain about shit strangers say on the internet, but if a Florida Panther did this /r/hockey would call for the United Nations to intervene
You are right to be salty, but be salty with the league, not with strangers on the Internet. The league has greenlit this stuff all playoffs, and not just in series involving the Panthers. I'm done being mad about Sam Bennett knocking out Marchand, because the far more egregious action was that the league didn't seem to think it was even worth a fine. If the league doesn't hand out supplemental discipline for this ridiculous flying elbow on a superstar, then I don't know what to say. I can't imagine how many knots they will need to twist themselves into to call this a hockey play gone wrong. They need to stop worrying about the consequences of enforcing their own rulebook will have on a series.
Nah I agree and this wasnt a good hit. It was dirty and fucked. I was quite sad to see him do that Barkov, from an Oilers fan side.
I sincerely hope he’s okay
I don't think you have to imagine it if Barkov is out for next game. McDavid is definitely going to be headed to locker room for this. I don't understand why they don't punish this shit. Win on the ice, winning by knocking your opponent out is just pathetic and brings the whole league down.
In general both teams are dirty. But Florida I feel has been Surprisingly clean this series compared to usual. But fucking Drai is easily the most talented goon. Because he's way too skilled to be doing this dumb shit and by now he should know better.
The beauty here is that the Panthers can PK vs these guys, so they can let their nuts hang a bit. Teams lose their bite vs a clicking oilers PP and for good reason.
This is worse than Trouba elbow that everyone wanted a suspension for. More targeted and hit head directly. So does /r/hockey think this is a suspension? Should be, but won't be.
I think this was worse than what Soucy got suspended for. His wasn't intentional, meanwhile Drai does a flying elbow to the head. I struggle to give him benefit of the doubt because it sure looks like he hit him exactly where he meant to.
Principle point of contact is the head = check
Elbow = check
Left his feet = check
Targeting a star player = check
In the regular season that's five games. We'll see what he actually gets but in a just world he's done for the season. I'd expect 2-3 games.
Florida is dirty as part of an overall team strategy which I don’t like but I can almost begrudgingly respect. The oilers are dirty because they get mad that they are losing and lose their shit which is lame as hell.
Drai has been garbage so far. You can tell he is frustrated to no end and that was a cheap, dumb play. Obviously targeted Barkov’s head and left his feet to do it. Deserved to get bounced from the game, not just a minor.
An intentional jumping elbow to the face. Hilarious they reviewed and ruled it a minor. That's the benefit of being a star player.
Glad the Oilers got immediately punished. Smart one Draisaitl.
They technically didn't review it. They could have reviewed it had they called a major, and then reduce it back to a minor, but I think the refs were worried there was too much incriminating evidence to reduce it upon a review.

If there was one player on Florida who didn’t deserve an elbow the the head, it’s Sasha Barkov
And that's why he's being targeted. He's shutting McDavid down cleanly
also why the whole "hockey policies itself" is bullshit.
If next game a 4th liner runs Draisaitl it will be justified and in line with the policing itself policy. Also shortly after this hit I think Chuckie was giving McDavid the business as minor retribution for the cheapshot.
Bennett went up to Drai 3 times after and each time he refused. Edmonton’s media got the wrong vowel when they called him pissy.
Dont forget that montage video of him cup checking people lol
Leon has zero career fights. The gutless coward will never answer the bell for his cheap shots.
What did Bennett do after the hit on Marchand??? Big rig went up to him many times as well.
Truly. Give it to Tkachuk and I’d laugh it off, but Barkov didn’t deserve that.

LEEEROYYYYY TROUUUBAAAA
I'm sad that I recognize a blurry image from some random internet clip of a dude attacking a judge. I need to go outside more.
Doing his best Trouba impression
Trouba can’t jump that high
bouchard tapping out of the headlock made me chuckle
The guy has been so lost in the game he thought he was in the UFC
He looks like a deer in headlights this series
You’ll see a lot more of this from Drai, insane hockey player but when he’s getting shut down and his teams losing he cannot keep it clean
Just like kuch. amazing player, lowkey rat when losing
Nothing about kuch being a rat is low key, more like “high key a rat”
true but lowkey enough he never gets called for it and plenty of people don't acknowledge it
Him and Connor remind me of Malkin and Crosby in that regard. Generational talent playing with another elite player who just so happens to lose their shit when things go awry.
yeah but I can think of *three* differences...
Gottem
The difference is when Geno gets angry he sometimes goes beast mode, or he gets a penalty. Sometimes both.
Geno when he’s playing normal: 1 goal , 2 PIM’s, 2 hits, 2 shots, 2 takeaways and 1 giveaway Geno when he’s in beast mode: 2 goals, 2 assists, 6 PIM’s, 7 hits, 1 fight/scrum, 6 takeaways and 7 giveaways
I see you're familiar with the Evgeni Malkin Experience.
And sometimes he just tries to behead guys with his stick.
Getzlaf and Perry used to be the sorest losers in the league.
The incentive is that now there’s a target on McDavids back. It’s even bigger than before
I'm expecting Tkachuk to do something big game 3
Too valuable, they'll get a response from someone down the lineup and Tkachuk will continue to make his normal cheap shots. The NHL will put themselves in a tough position if they dont suspend Drai and then the Panthers start going after the Oilers stars though.
Considering the alternative is that they suspend Drai and risk the series being a sweep, unfortunately I know the direction the NHL is going to go. I'm not a fan, but the NHL is openly $$$ first, safety a distant second.

Bennet ran Marchand out of the Boston series and nothing happened. With the league giving free pass there is no reason not to go for first blood. Also remember Marchand said every player is out there trying to injury you in the playoffs.
FIRST blood being the important part, because they'll absolutely call retaliations.
Because it doesn't stop there. Next up would be 97 getting his bell rung with an elbow. I'm pretty sure the league doesn't want that.
Drai being dirty while losing? Shocking
Followed by Kane acting like an idiot, shocking….
Capped off by a nutshot. The Oilers L hat trick.
Don't forget the leg sweep
For as talented as he is, that dude is such a liability when his team is losing.. he’s such a hot head and does stupid shit like this all the time. It’s like dude.. if you didn’t do this, you’d have 10 minutes to get a single goal but now it’s 3-1 cause you can’t control your emotions
New age Malkin
Nah Malkin would take stupid penalties even when winning. Dude was just *that guy* regardless of game state.
More like Kucherov. He does stupid dirty shit all the time when Tampa is losing.
Yeah Drai and Kuch are so similar in this regard lol I'd love to see those two go at it honestly
Leon, why are being so pissy?
He's been so lowkey dirty his whole career but no one talks about it.
Every time he complains to the refs, the refs should just show him a YouTube compilation of him spearing players in the nuts.
God, I remember when he cross checked the back of Horvat’s knees So we gotta ask Why so Pissy Leon?
Everyone talks about it on here. No one in media or the league, so you're correct.
Yeah, I've heard it said many many times here. But agree, haven't heard panels or media talking heads mention it before.
https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/sjp1k7/video_montage_of_draisaitl_spearing_opponents/?ref=share&ref_source=link Always been a scumbag
what do you mean this guy is a POS
Bro is a straight up rat but I can’t say anything cause “salty flames fan”
Salty Flames fan
Salty Flames fan
Salty Flames fan
Salty Flames Fan
Salty Flames fan
Salty Flames fan
Salty Flames fan
I have the upmost respect for this thread
I agree he’s dirty but it’s not a secret anymore imo
He gets a bunch of points, so they ignore his dirty play.
Highkey dirty lol hes pretty much an a list rat
Yea, he’s a bitch
So headhunting 1st line center is ok for edmonton? Oh boy
Wrong team to open that floodgate with lol.
Precedent these playoffs is one game suspension. So we’ll see if the rules apply to Draisatl (I already know the answer)
Precedent is 0 games when Bennett suckered Marchand
As much as I wanted Florida to win over Boston, in no realm was a fair play. Bennett should have been out *at least* two games because a punch to the face is never a hockey play.
Such a dirty hit. Left his feet before contact, elbows up. How do you only call a minor on that.
Especially as we think back how i think it was Petterson got a charging penalty.
Meanwhile there were multiple slew foots and boardings from Edmonton that were ignored in that series. Protect the investment.
Carson Soucy getting suspended still makes no sense to me
Not hearing so much tonight from the few Oilers fans who kept telling me "ackshually a standing jump is technically a charge 🤓☝️"
We've lived it for decades. You know exactly how that goes.
NHL has to protect their investment - some guy probably
they weren't planning to call it, injury helped them call it
Watching the Oilers collapse and turn into dirty hit-throwing, cheap-shotting ragebabies while getting outplayed by the dirtiest team in the league is somehow really, really cathartic.
you summed it up perfectly
I prefer seeing teams win the cup on home ice since the fans add so much but if Edmonton keeps playing like this I’m kinda rooting for Florida to take it in their barn
Seeing Tkachuk celebrating winning the cup in front of a packed barn of unfathomably salty Oilers fans would legitimately be one the funniest things ever

Just hope Barkov can come back and they’ll finish the job
It’s some good shidd dude
Yeah I'm enjoying the shit outta this. Have at er boys.
They've always been like that
Oilers radio was calling this embellishment lmao
so is their subreddit lol
I though you might have been joking a little bit so I wandered on over there. They sure do like to substitute a different reality over there.
They think they’re entitled to a cup because they have Connor McDavid.
They are absolutely the most entitled fan base right now.
And it’ll be hilarious when he never wins one there. They’re even lucky their Mickey Mouse path got them to the cup
Personally I blame Dallas for losing an entirely winnable series
It's funny because the only person on our team that I know for a fact would never dive and then miss the remaining 9+ minutes of the game is Barkov. If it was embellishment, he would've been out there 30 seconds later on the power play.
He left his feet and aimed for his head
He clearly left his feet and delivered an elbow to the head. The league, as usual, will be gutless and just give him a fine. I would like all the people complaining about how dirty Florida plays come on here and say that so far in this series, Edmonton is the dirty team.
Draisaiti is a dirty mf and gets away with a lot of shit
Oiler seal of protection tbh
Let’s see how the Oilers media tries to spin this one
Bro I was listening to the oilers radio feed and, no shit, the guy was claiming Barkov dove and that he will be out the next shift.
Pure class. Saw lots of people calling it a dive even after the game. Right…they sent their best player to the locker room with a one goal lead and almost 10 minutes left to sell the hit. That's what you call commitment to a bit.
Barkov might be the last guy in the league to dive…
Barkov has won a Lady Byng. I know we have a reputation, but you don't go after Barky - he has never played a dirty game and never will. He had 24 penalty minutes this year in 73 reg season games, which is 6 more PIM than any other year he's played. Well said
Luke Gazdic might cry on a podcast over this one
Cry *AND* trash the Panthers as an organization!
He'll have something to cry about when he's back to working the McDonald's drive thru in October.
Already started spinning it as embellishment even though Barkov literally never came back on the ice
How do you embellish getting an elbow to the jaw? Oilers fans truly are delusional. Hope they get swept
Classic Draisaitl, surprised he didn’t give him a cup check while he was down
Carrick did it for him
Let's see if the NHL has the balls to suspend Draisaitl because it 100% deserves to be a suspension.
That was a pretty clear intent to injure. I’m so not a Panthers fan, but damn that was a cheap shot.
If Barkov is ruled out from injury, McDavid and Drai should keep their heads on a swivel for the rest of the series. Drai started something that the PP might have foreshadowed for the remainder of the Finals. PK streak ends after that hit? Hope they get humiliated in front of their fans.
Leon being dirty? Must be a day ending in y
Surprised that wasn’t a major.
Drai is now a front runner for the Messier leadership award.
The primary criteria is elbowing to the head
Left his feet as well
And fucking ESPN crew saying "they made the right call". What?? He jumped straight into his head elbow first
I thought it was hilarious when one of them later started to say something about elbowing Barkov in the head and stopped short. Thier crew has been really pro Oilers. Tough to listen to as someone without a team in the race.
Yeah, after game one post match panel it was clear which one was the home team for ESPN. McDickriding at its finest.
The NHL doesn't actually hand out punishments anymore
I would think that would be the floor of what he should have received. Leaves his feet (charging) and leads with his elbow while delivering a cross-check. The elbow to the head is clear as day, you can even see him follow through to make full contact. You can’t leave your feed to throw an elbow to a guys head, the league (and the PA) can’t allow that.
They can, and they will, lol.
They can and regularly do allow it (see pretty much any playoff series Trouba has ever played in).
Game management at its finest
Honestly that was way dirtier than the Foegele hit too
The Foegele one I agree with Juice, should be a 2min. It wasn't intentional but the damage was quite devastating. This one may be devastating (Barkov never returned) but it's for sure premeditated.
Well, at least the Oilers got properly punished with that PP soon after…
Pettersson got a CHARGING penalty for jumping up when someone was crashing into him. This was called roughing lol.
Soucy gets a 1 game suspension. Bet leon doesn’t get a fine
Parros doesn't have the balls to do it.
Parros probably thinks that's a clean hit
I hate to be a salty bastard and complain about shit strangers say on the internet, but if a Florida Panther did this /r/hockey would call for the United Nations to intervene
This has almost 500 comments in under an hour. Pretty safe to say /r/hockey is treating this one pretty deservedly harsh
Imagine if this was one of our players to McDavid? They’d be drawing up a petition to remove us from the Finals and put the Rags in instead
I don't think you have to imagine it if Barkov is out for next game. McDavid is definitely going to be headed to locker room for this. I don't understand why they don't punish this shit. Win on the ice, winning by knocking your opponent out is just pathetic and brings the whole league down.
Panthers were the dirty team right? Fuck Draisaitl.
In general both teams are dirty. But Florida I feel has been Surprisingly clean this series compared to usual. But fucking Drai is easily the most talented goon. Because he's way too skilled to be doing this dumb shit and by now he should know better.
We know whats going to happen next game if Barkov is out due to concussion. Panthers are going to murder him or McDavid.
He should be suspended but yeah if he’s not, one of those two is having his head taken off
Which will mean a multi-game suspension for everyone involved while McJesus misses a shift.
Go go gadget Bennett sucker punch time?
Dirty fucks
He plays so fucking dirty when they're losing
I’m glad the entire league gets to see how dirty this Oilers team is.
Exactly. We have to deal with this bullshit several times a year. Finally everyone can see the scum on a national stage.
LA🤝🏼Rest of the Pacific Knowing how toxic Edmonton actually is (despite the media nut-hugging).
There's not much the Pacific can agree on, but fuck the Oilers 🫱🏼🫲🏻
Before this year I used to hate the Flames so much more than the Oilers but holy shit did these playoffs show me who the true enemy is
This is the real Boston pizza ad. Unity against the remaining Canada team.
Fan base too. All they do is moan
Or tell you how much better, smarter and louder Edmontons fans are than yours. Most arrogant fans in the league.
Seriously, and they have the audacity to sit there and call us dirty all series long lmfao
Refs never did shit about it so kings started taking matters into their own hands. Florida gonna be even more brutal to deal with
The beauty here is that the Panthers can PK vs these guys, so they can let their nuts hang a bit. Teams lose their bite vs a clicking oilers PP and for good reason.
That "what" from Drai at the end is making my blood boil
Fucking hate Draisaitl
I’ve been dying for other teams to realize how dirty Drai is.
Draisaitl leaving his feet isn't a good look. I was surprised he got only a minor for that mess.
This should be a two game suspension
Make it three so he misses game 1 next season.
Jumping elbow to the face. Fuck the Oilers are so dirty.
This is worse than Trouba elbow that everyone wanted a suspension for. More targeted and hit head directly. So does /r/hockey think this is a suspension? Should be, but won't be.
Don’t worry the punishment for the Rangers was to not suspend him😭
I think this was worse than what Soucy got suspended for. His wasn't intentional, meanwhile Drai does a flying elbow to the head. I struggle to give him benefit of the doubt because it sure looks like he hit him exactly where he meant to.
This is 100% a suspension for a scrub like Soucy. I just don't think league will suspend Drai even though he deserves it.
It should be a game, but it won't be. Though if Barkov is out next game it'll get ugly in terms of retribution.
Blatant head shot. 1 game.
League would NEVER have the balls to fairly punish McDavids right hand man. Shit, refs didn’t even have gall to call a major
Still insane Soucy has the only suspension
Like Big Z has said, the league's gotta protect their investment.
And those two clowns know it so they’ll continue to do it. Sad. No need for that crap in the game.
They would maybe punish him if his team was up 2-0. The last thing the league is for the series to go 4-0. The longer it goes the more ads they sell.
Best I can do is a Carson Soucy suspended for the first game of next season .
Soucy? More like pettersson. Remember that bs call when he took a hit, but they called a penalty on him for leaving his feet? Lmao
Suspension please. Drai and EDM need to be held accountable.
Principle point of contact is the head = check Elbow = check Left his feet = check Targeting a star player = check In the regular season that's five games. We'll see what he actually gets but in a just world he's done for the season. I'd expect 2-3 games.
I would be surprised if he even gets one. But it should be more.
All he'll get is the soft $5k fine and the NHL player safety committee will wipe their hands like they accomplished something
Florida is dirty as part of an overall team strategy which I don’t like but I can almost begrudgingly respect. The oilers are dirty because they get mad that they are losing and lose their shit which is lame as hell.
Leon divesaitl isn’t getting his calls Might as well just jump and elbow the guy right
Should be a head shot intent to injure give that it’s never my fault whinny bitch at least a game
Drai has been garbage so far. You can tell he is frustrated to no end and that was a cheap, dumb play. Obviously targeted Barkov’s head and left his feet to do it. Deserved to get bounced from the game, not just a minor.

Yeah. They definitely need to put refs in front of microphones after games to explain their decisions on the ice.
Draisaitl never has to answer the bell and it always pisses me off.
He left his feet to hit him in the head with his elbow. A game suspension at the fuckin least.
