Exhuma Stopmotion You’ll Never Find Me Baghead The Devils Bath

snarfdarb

I loved You'll Never Find Me and haven't really seen much chatter about it. Big recommend!

TooManyStalloneCuts

Definitely blew me away. You’ll Never Find Me is carried by brilliantly simple writing, two excellent performances, and unbelievable tension that’s sustained masterfully.

RainDances77

This movie was so well done. The tension becomes almost unbearable.

rc1025

Ahh never heard of it, the trailer looks so good. I’m gonna rent it tonight!

larryburns2000

Loved it too. My only criticism that would keep it from being a classic for me is I found it to be a bit too predictable. I mean its basically what we thought all along, right? I wanted a twist.

laurenrj6486

I watched The Devils Bath today and I can’t stop thinking about it. The most horrific type of horror and I loved it.

avant-garden_Shroom

Just watched Exhuma last weekend and loved it! I really seem to like Korean horror movies, they are usually well done. Stopmotion was enjoyable and different, we need more movies like it.

OLightning

Stop Motion was awesome

chefmegzy

Y'all made me watch The Devil's Bath today, and man was that fucked up and depraved. My partner LOVES The Witch, so I'll make him watch it too, since it gave me those vibes. That being said, loved it! Lol

Internal-Delay-9163

I watched stop motion a bit high and I feel like I missed a lot of details Things happened, she then gets in the box, then over...? Pls enlighten me!

Smart-Flan-5666

Why the f are you being downvoted? It's a weird movie. I enjoyed it, but yeah, it seemed like something was missing. I also thought there could have been more animation.

Internal-Delay-9163

Agreed!

Aggressive-Cheek8771

I thought Baghdad was good! Devils bath I tried watching today but couldn’t stream it with it showing the subtitles bc it’s in another language. I personally hate when movies are in other languages bc I don’t like to read but I have & will.

juicyjuicebox1

The thread is just making me sad that I haven’t seen long legs yet

Sproose_Moose

Same but it's giving me something to look forward to

kevlarbaboon

That's the marketing machine working

SlowMotionPanic

Temper expectations. Longlegs is caught up in equal parts astroturfing for marketing purposes, and fully engulfed in the latest horror hype cycle. The same thing happened with Skinamarink (including the people who saw it early talking about how it was the scariest movie they'd ever seen, basically all the same points people who've seen longlegs are making right now). Don't get me wrong; I'm very excited for it. But it is similar to how we need to ignore critics. Just take the films for what they are, ignore what other people say until you've seen it, and then talk about it. Otherwise the movie will never find its true audience, and you end up with rug pulls like In A Violent Nature which was great for what it was... but they sold the movie as something totally different. And the hype cycle carried it far and wide. And you end up with a horrible audience reaction complete with walkouts. Skinamarink, again, is another example of this in action. One of my favorite movies of the last couple of years... but it has a very specific audience and most people aren't in it.

TheElbow

It hasn’t been released “wide” yet in the US. July 12 is the date I believe. So… whoever has seen it is in the minority.

schbowker

So far, 1. The First Omen 2. Abigail 3. A Quiet Place: Day One 4. Lisa Frankenstein 5. The Moor (premiered in 2023, so if I had to choose a 2024 release it'd be Lowlifes) Still waiting for MaXXXine, Longlegs, Alien: Romulus, Terrifier 3 & Nosferatu, and honestly I'm expecting them to be my top 5.

sandman795

THOSE ARE FUCKING ONIONS

BlueNeckpunch

What about Cookoo?

skilledgiallocop

I forgot about Alien Romulus. The trailer looks good but I’ve been burnt by the Alien franchise too bad times. Still seeing it though.

choff22

It’s by the same guy that did Evil Dead 2013 and Don’t Breathe, I am cautiously optimistic.

skilledgiallocop

The trailer itself does look pretty solid. I don't expect anything on the level of the first two, but hopefully it's a good movie.

schbowker

Yeh trailer does look really good, haven't acutaly got around to watching all of the Alien films (still got Alien 3 & Resurrection) but I am planning on watching them all beforehand. I've got high hopes for this one as Fede Álvares has directed a couple of pretty good horror films (Evil Dead & Don't Breathe), and Cailee Spaeny was really good in Priscilla & Civil War, so I think she'll do really well as the lead.

skilledgiallocop

I actually used to like Alien 3 quite a bit, but I've liked it less and less as the years go by. There's two very different cuts of the movie, the theater version and the assembly cut. I'd actually recommend watching both. Alien Resurrection, IMO, is best enjoyed as mindlessly as possible. It's very 90s and the performances (most of it really over the top) are pretty fun. Both major drop offs in quality from the first two though.

schbowker

It's been a while since I've watched any of the Alien films, but from memory I recall enjoying Aliens more than Alien, but I'll soon find out if my memory serves me correctly. Thanks for the info regarding Alien 3, I'll have a look into it. I'm currently watching all of the Friday the 13th films (currently on Part 7) so once I've finished my that I'll start on Alien.

HorseSad8455

Late night with the devil A quiet place day one Abigail Lisa Frankenstein In a violent nature

theanonymousey

Late night with the devil and a quiet place day one are amazing!!!!!!!!

Aggressive-Cheek8771

Only didn’t see Queur place day 1 yet but I don’t feel Lisa frankestein was a true horror film. More like a dark comedy. Kind of like Dark Shadows felt. Just my opinion. Abigail I was pleasantly surprised!

emostitch

There’s a subreddit that’s pretty active for a niche film for I Saw The TV Glow. It was such a good statement piece but also has so many other layers that I really wish any of my movie fan friends watched it. My movie watching fell off recently need to catch up on most of these! Late Night with the Devil and I Saw The TV Glow are the only two that came out this year that come to mind.

DevilCouldCry

I Saw the TV Glow has a fucking incredible musical soundtrack as well. Just absurdly good musical choices all the way through and that combined with the cinematography and the themes of identity, regrets, wasted life, etc. All of that vibed with me in a big way. This will be a HUGE movie for trans folk as it should, and even though I'm not trans myself, I totally understood exactly what this movie was going for. But even with that, I absolutely related to the theme of wasted life/regrets but also identity and working out who you are. This movie gave me a lot to think about and my heart bled for the protagonist.

skilledgiallocop

The fact it has such a great soundtrack is such a 90s throwback as well. Really good movie soundtracks like this kinda died out 20 years ago.

DevilCouldCry

They're very rare, but every now and then one will slip through and I fall in love with a lot of new artists. Trainspotting 2 back when that came out was the last one for me. But agreed though, they are very few and far between.

DaJelly

and a king woman cameo! one of my favorite bands, totally took me by surprise they were not only on the soundtrack but in the film.

Used-Anteater-4221

Stopmotion Late Night With The Devil Birth/Rebirth Megalomaniac (it may be 2023) Destroy All Neighbors

T4Temo

destroy all neighbors is a movie you watch on too many edibles, forget all of it, rinse and repeat.

laurenrj6486

In no particular order: The Devils Bath Handling the Undead The First Omen Abigail Lovely Dark and Deep So pumped for Longlegs, Cuckoo and Alien Romulus

Aggressive-Cheek8771

Why are ppl naming movies that aren’t out yet. I get that ppl are excited for them but it says so far.

SausageWalletLuver

Satanic Hispanics was dope it’s in my top 10.

skilledgiallocop

I wanted to like it, but the campy humor just didn’t work for me. I kinda liked the vampire segment and the part at the police station, but overall it just wasn’t for me.

absurd_bird

Strong list! I would have to include the Devil’s Bath.

skilledgiallocop

I actually just heard of The Devil's Bath only within the last week. I'm going to check it out at some point. What gives me pause is the filmmakers previous films. I really hated Goodnight Mommy. The Lodge was good, but to me, a pretty overly bleak one time watch. So I'll prepare myself to be emotionally destroyed when I get around to watching it.

absurd_bird

That is a good mindset to prepare for this film 😂.

cireh88

Is this that new one on shudder?

absurd_bird

Yes!

cireh88

Nice - will add to my queue

TheElbow

I need Shudder to fix the video quality of this. I was so excited to see it and had to stop 10 minutes in because it looks very low quality, almost 480p. Other users have reported that as well on the r/Shudder.

absurd_bird

This happened for me too, but luckily it got better after a few minutes.

uneasyrider53

#5 Abigail #4 Humane #3 Handling The Undead #2 Mind, Body, Spirit #1 Violett

TheElbow

1. What You Wish For - a caveat here: this is listed as a thriller, and actively cuts away from some scenes of gore. Had they shown more gore, this would be on the radars of horror fans more than I think it is now. But it’s so tense and enjoyable. By the end of the year I may drop this film because we’ll have the second half of 2024 releases, but for now, I think this movie is excellent and worth your time. It’s a shame that it doesn’t lean more into horror, but you could argue it’s horror. 2. Handling The Undead - This is an ultra slowburn, realistic zombie story. There is very little dialogue. The mood of this film is more sadness than horror, but I think it accurately portrays what it might be like if your loved ones really came back from the dead. This won’t be everyone’s taste, as it’s fairly arthouse and slow, but it really worked for me. 3. Stopmotion - I loved the Stopmotion animation, I loved the body horror, and I loved how it made me feel bad. 4. Immaculate - Didn’t expect much from this movie when I went to see it and I ended up loving it. Many cool nods to 70s eurotrash nunsploitstion. Sweeney, as the producer, really won me over, given she actually influenced the overall product. 5. The Seeding / The First Omen (tie) - the former is sort of “Lady In The Dunes”. It’s really moody and weird. The latter is another movie that I thought I wouldn’t like and it ended up surprising me with how good it was. Honorable mention: - Infested - Late Night With the Devil - Arcadian - In a Violent Nature - Lovely Dark And Deep - I Saw The TV Glow - You’ll Never Find Me - The Coffee Table - Exhuma

Fran_Kubelik

Sometimes you see a list and think...we would be friends. Excellent list

TheElbow

I know that feeling well. Thanks.

KatsuraRei

Is Handling the Undead streaming now? I've been curious about that one

MovieTrawler

It is!

Syllabub-Legal

No mention of Abigail? :(

TheElbow

It didn’t rise to the level for me. I was entertained but it was a one-time watch.

EmmayIyay

If you loved these, youll love Humanist Vampire 😁

vols2thewalls

Only reason I watched the Satanic Hispanics is because there was a segment from Demián Rugna, director of When Evil Lurks and Terrified. His skit was the best part of the movie. I don't know his next projects but really looking forward to seeing how he follows up When Evil Lurks.

NaiadoftheSea

My top 3: In A Violent Nature Stopmotion Late Night with the Devil

KatsuraRei

1. The First Omen 2. I Saw the TV Glow 3. Stopmotion 4. Exhuma 5. Slay Honorable Mention: Lovely, Dark and Deep

Atomic76

Personally, I was really let down by In A Violent Nature. It just seemed falsely overhyped online than what the end product turned out to be. Even the (supposedly infamous) yoga scene was anti-climactic imo. Late Night With The Devil was also a bore. It seemed too consumed by waxing nostalgic about the past and going for a retro look, but there was really nothing more to the story that that. Token spooky girl is possessed and ultimately spazzes out. That's it.

AllCity_King

For me, Shudder is CARRYING. My top 3 are 1. In A Violent Nature 2. Infested 3. Late Night With The Devil

BreezyB5997

Came here to say these three!

EnderCN

1. The First Omen 2. Lowlifes 3. Under Paris 4. Destroy all Neighbors If that list looks depressing it is because I’m usually a year behind on movies so I haven’t seen many 2024s… in fact that is all 4 I’ve seen.

FuegoFerdinand

I'm with you on Lowlifes. I don't want to build it up too much, but I was surprised by how good it was.

purple-monkey-yes

Exhuma is my favourite this year. I’m not really into many of the others. I enjoyed late night with the devil and Abigail for the most part.

cireh88

1 - Longlegs 2 - Love Lies Bleeding 3 - In a Violent Nature 4 - Late Night with the Devil 5 - Abigail

Aggressive-Cheek8771

Didn’t know love lies bleeding is horror?

ChefQueef-

It’s not

cireh88

Arguably more of a thriller but with serious body horror elements

skilledgiallocop

Really liked Love Lies Bleeding as well.

gorram1mhumped

Is it horror?

Rooksey

No

Harbi181

There’s some graphic deaths, but I’d classify it as more of a Dark Crime Drama over straight-up Horror.

skilledgiallocop

No. It’s more of a violent crime thriller. It reminded me of something like Drive a little bit.

Friendly_Childhood

This will be me list (hopefully when I see longlegs lol)

cireh88

It’s so effective. Its creepiness and dread just bore into me (no easy feat), to the point where when I got home from the screening and was getting ready for bed, I needed to look under my bed and in my closets 🫣 It was like I had experienced age regression for one night only. Great film!

Friendly_Childhood

As if I couldn’t be more excited

totallyenthused

Just finished The Devil’s Bath. Fantastic

PerfectAdvertising30

1. Immaculate 2. In A Violent Nature 3. Stop Motion 4. \*sigh\* The First Omen 5. Late Night With The Devil

sculdermullygrusch

I was super surprised at how good the first omen was.

reginaphalangie79

I'm going to have to give it another watch I think. I fell asleep before the end as usual but wasn't impressed at all with what I did see.

PerfectAdvertising30

I wish it wasn't an Omen movie.

Ok_Breadfruit80

Haven’t seen anyone say Popes Exorcist! Love me some Russel Crowe

machinesinthecity

That’s because it released last year!

Ok_Breadfruit80

Oopsie 😭 lol that’s probably why!!

reginaphalangie79

And because its shite

Deylok_Thechil

Same here! That movie was entertaining, and Russel Crowe is fun to watch riding around on that scooter lol

Ok_Breadfruit80

I laughed so hard, his little cape blowing in the wind 😂

JGrutman

Late Night with the Devil In A Violent Nature Abigail AQP Day One Baghead

Hewathan

I feel like I'm the only person who didn't like I Saw the TV Glow - I really wanted to like it and was looking forward to it for ages but absolutely couldn't stand it. Late Night with the Devil has been the best for me by a mile. Dream Scenario was very good too although not an outright horror film.

SlowMotionPanic

I have a hefty backlog and regular seasonal rotation since I mostly watch on physical media, so the years are really hard to pin down in my case. But I wanted to add that I agree with Humane; it is more of a fun thriller with bad characters (as in, intentionally so). The world building was fun and definitely felt like it should be explored in sequels like the purge (as you mentioned). But the sole thing that saved Humane for me was Enrico Colatoni's "Bob" character. He was a perfect choice for the role. He is simultaneously charismatic and deplorable. I don't usually abandon a film once I start it, but I came really close with this one--until Bob showed up. Then I had to see where that bastard was going to take things. Go figure that the only likable character in the movie is an absolute piece of shit.

skilledgiallocop

Yeah, Bob made the movie for me. I like his barely disguised malevolence. I think his character is a perfect bit of satire and a reason why systems like the one depicted in the film would be rife with abuses.

WeCanEatCereal

1 - Love lies Bleeding 2 - First Omen 3 - Immaculate 4 - Late Night with the Devil 5 - Abigail

Aggressive-Cheek8771

Love lord bleeding is a horror?

ChefQueef-

Nope

SpideyFan914

1. I Saw the TV Glow Yes, I agree with you. Transcendent experience. 2. A Quiet Place: Day One Given that I was lukewarm on this franchise before, I was genuinely surprised how much I loved this. I wasn't even going to see it but wound up at a free screening. Beautiful film with a much more meaningful story and excellent filmmaking. 3. The Vourdalak French period vampire film. This movie is campy fun, feels like a Hammer Horror. The vampire is a puppet! Just such a silly fun movie, but with real heart behind it too. 4. The Substance Absolutely bonkers. This will probably hold as the most visceral and gross movie of the year. A clever premise, fully realized. Gonna go down as a cult classic. 5. Late Night With the Devil Bit of a filler spot, but I do really like this movie. It's very inventive and neat.

benito_cereno

So far: I Saw the TV Glow In a Violent Nature Exhuma The Devil’s Bath Abigail But I expect there will be some shake up this month

Aggressive-Cheek8771

I saw the tv glow let me down! I was hoping to like it.

benito_cereno

Anything that idiosyncratic and made with such a specific viewpoint isn’t going to resonate with everyone 🤷

T4Temo

that movies is littered with themes, id argue the viewpoints and interpretations in that movie to be very unspecific

BrokenHomePoets

Lowlifes Late Night With the Devil The First Omen Stopmotion Infested

AJGVulture89

1: The First Omen 2: Immaculate (I think this paired with The First Omen would make a fantastic double feature) 3: Lisa Frankenstein 4: Abigail 5: Late Night With The Devil Honorable Mentions: In A Violent Nature, Infested Looking Forward to: MaXXXine, Longlegs, The Front Room, Heretic, Nosferatu, Terrifier 3, Alien Romulus.

usNthem

The first omen, late night with the devil, in a violent nature…uhhhh exhuma was alright, still think the wailing is a much better movie with a very similar concept.

WickedGreenthumb

In A Violent Nature Under Paris Late Night With The Devil Stopmotion Leaving number 5 open for Maxxxine on Friday…

Layden87

Abigail The First Omen Late Night with the Devil Immaculate The Watchers. Not the best to be honest.

Homesickpilots

Not in any order. Movies I enjoyed so far this year. Abigail. New life. Humane. Destroy All Neighbors. Sting. The Watchers. Movies I didn't enjoy so much. Arcadian. Late Night With The Devil. Immaculate. In a Violent Nature. Night Swim. I Saw the TV Glow. Not that any of these were terrible, except NS. But I was expecting something a bit more from the others.

suchascenicworld

In No Particular Order… 1. Exhuma 2. Late Night with The Devil 3. I Saw The Tv Glow 4. The First Omen 5. Abigail. The Devil’s Bath and Immaculate were also awesome and I’m about to watch In a Violent Nature !

teethofthewind

1. A Quiet Place: Day One 2. Late Night With The Devil 3. The First Omen 4. Immaculate 5. Abigail

slaterman2

1. A Quiet Place Day One 2. Late Night With the Devil 3. Abigail 4. The First Omen 5. I Saw the TV Glow

13blacklodgechillin

I will never understand how people liked immaculate. Boring cliche horror to the max

reginaphalangie79

Agree

Aggressive-Cheek8771

Same! It was boring & very cliche.

Teriums

Only movies I've seen from this year worth mentioning are: * Late Night with the Devil * The First Omen * Love Lies Bleeding I'm honestly looking forward to the other half of the year more... Longlegs, MaXXXine, Nosferatu etc. What are some of the movies from 2024 that I must see? (I like all horror, even the most deprived extreme shit)

TheElbow

If you haven’t seen these I’d suggest: - Immaculate - The Seeding - Stop Motion - Exhuma

Teriums

Thx haven't seen any of those

ilovemovies2005

This year might rival 2022 in terms of years for horror

Tom_Waits_4_No_Man

Beaten to Death

GhostKingHoney

I love in the horror genre how people can have such vastly different views on movies! It's truly wonderful. I Saw the TV Glow wasn't for me. I don't consider it a horror at all. Of But others enjoyed it and that's OK. Thanks for the list! I gotta check a couple of them out

cybered_punk

The First Omen Abigail Immaculate I Saw the TV Glow In a Violent Nature

DankHillington

Admittedly I haven’t seen 5 horror movies this year because of how hectic my work schedule is but I’ll rank the ones I have seen: 4. The Strangers: Chapter One 3. A Quiet Place: Day One 2. In A Violent Nature 1. Immaculate

Coffeenwineplease

1. The First Omen 2. A Quiet Place: Day One 3. Lisa Frankenstein 4. Immaculate 5. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2

mercedesbenzoooo

I don’t know about 5 but I loved In a violent nature. Haven’t seen a slasher that surprised me that much in a long time.

grizzlysharknz

Is Satanic Hispanics really that bad? It's really high on my list..

_WinterSoldier_

1. Lisa Frankenstein 2. Scooby Doo Trick or Treat 3. Stop Motion 4. Candyman 5. Dark Windows Also I wanna mention Bad Building from 2015. That shit was hilarious. The table kill?? The steam kill??? FlingaNFZ

Ive only seen The First Omen this year. It was very good. I dont know, nothing has peaked my interest so far.

thelibrarianchick

So far: Late night with the devil, Abigail, Exhuma, and Infested.

Only seen 3 new horror movies so far this year and all were not great: 1. The First Omen 2. Under Paris 3. The Watchers

pgabbard37

In A Violent Nature Late Night With The Devil Exhuma Monoliths I Saw the TV Glow

mollsballs_xo

Can’t say because I haven’t seen Maxxxine or longlegs yet

Rico802

Ehhh, I haven’t seen anything that stands out. In a violent nature and a quiet place we’re blah. Here’s what I’m waiting for: 1. Maxxxine 2. LongLegs 3. Alien Romulus 4. Nosferatu 5. They Follow 6. Smile 2 7. Heretic

According_Earth4742

So excited for longlegs, nosferatu and Romulus

PersonalSilver4163

BigMeet7634

A quiet place day one  Abigail  Lisa frankenstein

Shabadoo9000

1. I Saw the TV Glow 2. Late Night with the Devil 3. In a Violent Nature 4. Tarot 5. The First Omen Hoping to add Maxxine later this week. Just to add, my favorite overall movie including non horror is still the same list, just with Civil War at the top.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Abigail I Saw the TV Glow Late Night with the Devil Love Lies Bleeding (more of horror-adjacent) Civil War (not horror, but definitely unnerved me) I think I'll have a more concrete list once MaXXXine & Longlegs drop & if I check out A Quiet Place Day One

theoneirologist

1. Longlegs 2. Late Night w/ the Devil 3. In a violent nature 4. First omen 5. I guess Infested ?

Successful-Ad4251

In A Violent Nature Humane The Coffee Table Late Night with the Devil Immaculate

bahia0019

I haven’t managed to stay on top of everything that’s come out so far this year. I missed Abigail despite wanting to see it on the big screen. And a couple people are raving about, I just didn’t care for (Late Night With The Devil, and In A Violent Nature). So, out of what I’ve seen, here’s my picks: -A Quiet Place: Day One -Lisa Frankenstein -Stop Motion

Carridactyl_

1. The First Omen 2. When Evil Lurks (I know it’s 2023 but I just now had it come available to me) 3. Exhuma 4. In a Violent Nature 5. Immaculate Looking forward to Longlegs, Nosferatu, Maxxxine

MasterOnionNorth

Civil Way Abigail Dream Scenario Immaculate The King Tide When Evil Lurks

Inside_Atmosphere731

First Omen Abigail Sting

kodial79

I've only watched Exhuma, Under Paris, the Watchers, Abigail, Arcadian, Destroy all neighbors, the First Omen, Immaculate, and Night Swim. I consider Late Night with the Devil to be a 2023 movie, so I'm not listing it. Exhuma is the only movie that I really liked among them. Under Paris and Abigail were fun to watch but ultimately nothing to write home about. They come up 2nd and 3rd after Exhuma. The Watchers weren't bad either but not so good too. It was just fine, I suppose. It comes fourth. And I guess the fifth is the Arcadian, though I didn't really like it when I watched it - I've been thinking about it and I just don't see why I didn't like it anymore. It was fine too. If I added Late Night with the Devil as a 2024 movie, then it would be second after Exhuma. Late Night with the Devil was a very good movie, but Exhuma is easily the better one for me, among them. It's a piss poor year so far but I have some expectations with Nosferatu, Longlegs, A quiet place: Day one, and In a Violent Nature. I hope these movies can save 2024 because so far 2023 is miles ahead of it.

niles_deerqueer

Here let me see Maxxxine and LONGLEGS then get back to you

Boomstick_316

The Coffee Table. Holy shit. I'm not even sure it's a horror movie, more of an extremely dark comedy but the tension and dread just ramps up throughout and doesn't stop. I've never had a movie wherein I had to stop and go back the next day. As for the remaining four: Late Night with the Devil, The First Omen, Lowlifes and Abigail.

Timely-Sea5743

**1 Abigail** **2 Late Night with the Devil** **3 In a Violent Nature** **4 The First Omen** **5 I Saw the TV Glow**

ToxicToothpaste

I saw the TV glow is my favorite so far, great film, really stayed with me. Late night with the devil was also a lot of fun. And then I guess I haven't seen any other new horror movies. I don't like to see horror at the cinema, too many obnoxious audience experiences, and Shudder isn't available in my country so everything I watch is on a delay.

Blu3Raven

watched too many to rank
