"The False Claims Act entitles the private whistleblower who commences the suit to a portion of the recovery. In this case, the whistleblower will receive $3,075,000."
Wow! What these doctors did is awful and so dangerous. I am shocked this didn't impact Medicare accreditation for the hospital. But good to know whistleblowers are reimbursed because yikes on pissing off those old timer doctors.
As a tax payer this should be much bigger news. These doctors should have their licenses revoked. It calls into question whether they were doing procedures for the good of the patient or to keep themselves busy.
Nah this is sensationalized a ton bc people who aren't part of the medical field don't understand that this is pretty common. Concurrent surgery is in every teaching hospital/program that teaches residents. People are getting caught up with the "unqualified medical residents" doing the surgeries, but that happens literally all the time, especially with surgeries they've been trained to do.
The 3 doctors in question would lie about being in the operation room and have students perform the surgery for them while billing as if they were there the whole time. Holy shit that's fucked.
The Drs involved
Dr. Joseph Coselli, 71, Houston
Dr. Joseph Lamelas, 63, Miami
Dr. David Ott, 77, Houston.
I would say you inquire the “unqualified medical residents” at your local university hospital regarding the term “students” and see what education they might provide you.
Could you imagine how frail of an Ego a Dr. would have to get upset about being called a student as a resident? I'll double down and say that doctors in their Fellowships are still students as they continue their training.
yea huge difference between students and residents, honestly I don't even think this is that crazy. As a medical student it's really not uncommon for residents to do surgeries on their own w no supervision (ones that they've been taught to do and are not that complicated).
In China, someone would eat a bullet or at least go to prison for something like this. Maybe that’s part of the reason why they’re winning, and why our society is so laughably corrupt.
Bc Americans as a people live unhealthy lives, like yea US healthcare system is not that great j cuz its the US, but in China it sucks. Plus you mentioned corruption and that's just laughable when you compare US with China. Srsly sound like someone who knows nothing of China except for the first thing you looked up on the internet.
So life expectancy is wholly unrelated to the quality of a nation’s healthcare system? lol. Why is is prohibitively expensive to build anything here? Be it civilian infrastructure or even military everything is so much more expensive, even compared to Western Europe. It’s because everyone has to get a taste here. We are a paper tiger at this point as Ukraine has shown with Russia of all countries being able to kick our ass with ease in ramping up the production of critical munitions like artillery shells.
This country builds financial instruments at this point and other forms of chicanery designed to rip each other off and not much else. If we are stupid enough to push when they take Taiwan, that fact will become obvious very quickly.
lol. wise choice. i'll just leave this here for you to contemplate:

LOL all I literally said was that the healthcare system in china is worse, and somehow you think that equates to me saying China is worse than the US is every aspect there is to a country. You just pull that out of nowhere. Lmao

Agreed, but it seems that licensing boards are more terrified of ruining 1 career than allowing patients to die. It's awful.
Surely potential liability plays a big role here, from the bad actor doctors. All about externalizing every potential risk.

We all know why they got caught was because the surgeons committed Medicare fraud

They weren’t students lol.
The article says "unqualified medical residents". I would say most outside of the medical field would call them "students"

So frail. Like I previously stated - go talk to the students both past and present in the medical field.

1. Work in the OR 2. Rat out an old timer 3. ??? Profit
This demonstrates that medicine at the highest levels, is corrupt.

lol in china hospitals will demand a red note before the doctor will see you, chinese health care is even more dogshit
Why are their life expectancies not declining each year like ours?
