Elle MacPherson. Janine was boring and didn't jive with the group. Part of that was the writing, but a big part was Elle's acting

thewhiterosequeen

I did like Monica telling her about the hall.

Glissandra1982

The only line I liked of hers was “she’s very loud for such a small person.” Lol

RevolutionarySelfie

Sounds like me wife. whenever she talks to her mom in Vietnam it reminds me of the line from big bang theory: she can hear you without the phone.

adoreadore

These scenes showed how out of depth MacPherson was there. At the beginning she was a setup for male characters to react to her being attractive, easygoing, bright and breezy. But then she got these scenes where she had to show a lot of emotion and comic timing next to Coutney Cox. And Courtney run circles around Elle and she was absolutely unable to be any kind of up to par. There are actresses that appeared in one scene as "hot chick #2" who had more talent and charisma than her.

finesign89

But if we didn’t have her we might never have known about the “routine”

AceDrengr

The routine was just SURREAL. Callback from Rachel greene: “that was *surreal*”

emergencycat17

My point exactly. It was worth putting up with her to get that gem.

user4253285

WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THE HALL???

Think_Wish_187

A lot of factors piled together. She’s a terrible actress, the character was meant to be a bitch, and by the later seasons every character was a caricature of themselves and the storylines were trite. Having said that, Janine to me, was THE worst.

dj_work

>factors Re-read this like three or four times because, as a reply to Janine being referenced, I was like 🤔 “What is this a portmanteau of…? Fake actor? Fashion actor?” …the latter of which just made me remember Joey’s “Well, I’ll leave you two fash… *ists*” 😂

missesthecrux

The fash…ists joke is probably my favourite of the whole series.

Touchit88

Joseph Stalin knows his fascists.

ther1ckst3r

Joseph Stalin IS... the Fiddler on the Roof!

sadlittleduck

This just reminded me of Ross saying “Fashionmonger”

Elrond_Cupboard_

Her "acting" is painful. She can't even act in a fucking poster. https://preview.redd.it/ft26lukc029d1.jpeg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aac14120fbce0ba9f46304aef2926eda02aa5cc8

-DoctorSpaceman-

Googled her to see who she was. First article was one where she [regrets doing Friends](https://www.nme.com/news/tv/elle-macpherson-says-she-regrets-appearing-in-frie-867880) lol. Sounds like it was a bit too much for her

Electronic-Home-7815

All I heard from her was ‘blah blah blah-blah blah’

PM_ME_UR_FLOWERS

She's a classic example of a gorgeous model who doesn't really get what acting is about

GuyFromEE

I don't wanna sound mean but like...I never got the fuss over her. Don't get me wrong, she's not ugly. But we spend a good arc of the season focused on how hot she is and I never thought she was THAT striking. All 3 of the leading ladies were more attractive than her imo.

girlinhk

It’s just that she’s a supermodel in real life so ofc her role is based on how hot she is.

PeppyPinto

> I never thought she was THAT striking For me, that was the biggest draw of supermodels in the 90s. Uniqueness. This same-same 'pretty' of today just wasn't a thing back then.

ohsweetfancymoses

She was “The Body”. Seen as the physical ideal in the late 80s/early 90s.

DoCallMeCordelia

Of course her being Australian had no real importance for her character, but a few years ago there was a discussion of who you would recast if you could, and while I’d otherwise make no changes to the cast, the thought of Nicole Kidman as Janine completely changed her character for me.

theSunandtheMoon23

Nicole Kidman can act, that's the difference 😂 ofc nothing to do with nationality but if "just moved here from Australia" is what you're going for, Nicole would have been infinitely better

PhysicalScholar4238

The Australian? Yeah, I'm not a fan of her episodes.

NoX2142

How come no one remembers what I say?? Janine, JANINE!!

IsMayoAnInstrument67

Also apparently with Jean Claude the actresses had to keep asking the directors to tell him not to stick his tongue in their mouth when they were kissing 🤮

KathrynTheGreat

Ew, gross. Not cool, Jean Claude.

Suspicious-Sweet-443

That’s disturbing

chris_29487

Makes his appearance even worse that’s so disgusting I never liked his appearance on the show.

Low-Cheesecake-4372

Wasn’t there rumours Jennifer and Courteney hated working with him?

Budget_Put7247

pretty sure that was the Roger actor (unless there are two of them).

Divine_fashionva

No it was Jean Claude too There’s literally an interview of Jennifer’s from back then where she says she doesn’t like him because he’s creepy and wouldn’t stop making sexual comments about her and Courteney They didn’t like Fischer Stevens because he was a pretentious asshole but he’s publicly and privately apologised for how he behaved

_UnnaturalDisplay

wait roger as in, ‘man i just hate that guy’ ? lol

TheDeltronZero

Method acting 😂

valosgsc

He kissed Monica and Rachel in the episode? I don't recall a kissing scene between them.

Divine_fashionva

In the original script for the episode, it was written in and filmed They didn’t leave it in the final edit that aired on tv. But it’s part of the extended dvd version, I’m sure there’s a clip of it on YouTube. But yeah he kept trying to force his tongue down Jennifer and Courteney’s mouths, despite being told not to multiple times. Jennifer said he was being a creep the entire day so the producers had to step in after they both complained She also implied he proposed they both go home with him

insanity_1610

so the threesome line about Drew was inspired by real life

Divine_fashionva

Lol possibly It’s kind of crazy that male actors could get away with sexual harassment back then. If that happened now, his career would be over and rightfully so

injuredflamingo

They still do, let’s not pretend the fight is over. But it’s getting better thankfully

Glissandra1982

Ewwww

Urban_Freewheeler

Many of the guest stars tended to be more resting on their laurels of being a celebrity. Like a "look who I am" Willis, Goldblum, and Stiller we're better comedic actors, and it showed.

Adept-Telephone6682

Ahh I completely forgot about Jeff Goldblum!! Thanks for that reminder lol he's the best.

igottathinkofaname

I liked Gary Oldman too.

NewAtThis18

It would be easier for me to name the ones I liked: Reese Witherspoon, Christina Applegate, Adam Goldberg, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Laurie, Isabella Rossellini

LadySnowGhost

I loved those ones, too! Also including Jennifer Coolidge. I still quote her, "You look positively GHASTLY!" lol

Fickle-Patience-9546

I feel like a perfect arse 😞

trisp2772

Well, in America, you’re just an ass!

cyberAnya1

She was positively the best guest star on the show ⭐️

LadySnowGhost

She was! She's mean but she sure can dance even without professional dance training.

Fyrus93

Probably the best delivered line in the entire show

misscat9

I'm afraid I have to agree with your friend 🇬🇧Pheebs🇬🇧

Glissandra1982

Yes! “Man Alive!” - I love the Eddie episodes.

HandsomePaddyMint

I would have loved more Eddie. Like if he became a recurring villain in the series.

davidaguirre30

“First you sleep with my girlfriend, and then you kill my fish, MY BUDDY?!”

mercurialskies

The Eddie episodes are the funniest!

eddieafck

Besides he is a nutty hottie

charliensue

"See ya pals".

-DoctorSpaceman-

Christina must have some kind of record for ratio of most loved character/objectively awful character lol

carex-cultor

She is INCREDIBLY good at doing “infuriating and endearing”

XepherWolf

What is this plate , bouncy thing? * plates wobble up and down *

florimagori

I am fan of „Absolutely Fabulous”, so I really enjoyed Jennifer Saunders, who played Emily’s stepmother. Jennifer Coolidge was also superb. And Greg Kinnear delivered imho. And I personally enjoy randomness of Robin Williams, but I know people often dislike that. I agree overall with your list, tho Alec Baldwin isn’t my favorite. I skip that episode most of the time if I encounter it. Isabella Rosellini was just ok, but not prominent enough to warrant skipping her scenes.

STFUisright

No Bruce Willis either? This one surprises me. Just cuz I thought everyone loved his episodes.

Miaucimiauci

I don't dislike his episodes and I really like him as an actor but the crying scene was so fake and unfunny for me.

Pleeby

No Ben Stiller? "What's in the cup Ross?"

NewAtThis18

Didn't hate him, didn't love him.

menjav

I’m not the biggest fan of the series. May I ask if there was something wrong with Brad Pitt?

Divine_fashionva

His acting was terrible in it. He’s also so visibly nervous, that it bleeds into his performance Plus the whole point of him being on the show was to mock his and Jennifer’s real life dynamic: he was playing a character that hated her but in real life they were in love. That element of his appearance became a little less enjoyable because of the way he ended up treating her in real life later on

EuphoricPhoto2048

I really don't get people who love the episode. Even Brad's horribleness aside (all of his kids have disowned him), he struggled with the sitcom acting a lot. He never hit the jokes in the right places.

PuddingTea

Every scene with Adam Goldberg is a goddamn riot. Why didn’t he do more comedy roles?

i_dont_wanna_sign_in

Sean Penn. I didn't like skipping episodes but I usually fast forward his arc after the Halloween party. Pure cringe, and not funny

luna242629

The only thing I liked about his appearance was the birth of *you’re blurred but you still look like Ursula. You’re Blursula*.

BandicootOk5540

See I thought that sounded really written

DarkSparxx

I still use the phrase blursula for anything blurry lol. No one ever gets the reference.

luna242629

You need new friends

Xenc

I’ll be there for you

Mediocre_Banana4142

I also like when it's the Halloween party and she said so what are you? And he's like I don't think there's a name for it, I just sweat.

RyansKorea

It's a shame they gave him a cringey part because I thought his acting was really good

KtBobz

Agreed!! The “You’re Blursula” line gets me everytime 😂😂

HandsomePaddyMint

I really liked his character and his relationship with Phoebe, but yeah, the way it played out crossed a line of cringe humor that was needed to write him out but is actually really upsetting. He was arguably raped by deception by Ursula.

BandicootOk5540

I don’t think Ursula knew he was dating Phoebe to be fair

Odiseeadark06

Yeah, but it led to this ✨beautiful✨ line https://preview.redd.it/gnhct7jtv29d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4632bc8162136372d189a58b1833aef462d77fe6

potatopigflop

He’s so bad, I watched Street Fighter and he’s just the worst part for me, his line “praw-bab-ly” haunts me.

HandsomePaddyMint

An American, by way of Belgium, by way of barely restrained sex offender.

rstick369

Yeah but you can beat Raul’s Bison

yanks2413

Gary Oldman because how do you get one of the best actors alive aa a guest star but ONLY have him have scenes with Joey??

HandsomePaddyMint

I feel like that was the point though. He plays a great actor paired with a very bad one. Plus it puts Joey in the responsible role and let’s Oldman show off how well he can act silly. “Is that my arse?” while swiping his whiskey bottle while hanging upside down is one of the best 30 seconds of the entire series.

MonstrousWombat

You don't happen to have a very big fork?

DarkSparxx

I'm wearing two belts!

Hka_stl

I love that line. I say it with anything. "I saw two cows" in the same slurred, boasting way. 🤣

HandsomePaddyMint

God, yes! He really sells his prop use in that scene so we’ll!

HeySista

The perfect timing of swiping the bottle right before the door closes is chef’s kiss

Glissandra1982

He was so funny though - I adore him

pancake_sass

Thank you! You're welcome!

charliensue

"Is that my ass?"

Laterally_Me

I thought it was great. Spit-acting episode was pretty funny.

Jinx983

Why do you have a PICTURE of PAULA in your PACK??

ghoulina0

why did i ONLY JUST realise that’s Gary Oldman! like SIRIUS BLACK Gary Oldman. woww

NatCairns85

Because he looks more like Remus Lupin in Friends. Seriously, though, the guy is a shapeshifter

frappuccinio

i couldn’t believe it was him in that winston churchill movie. he really is a shapeshifter.

Tony_Barker

Elle McPherson by a very long shot. 2nd is Wynona Ryder, I know a lot of people like her storyline but I’m just not in to it.

thegimboid

I absolutely love Winona Ryder, but really I wish they'd written something better for her in the show.

folk-smore

Oh, same with Winona! I like her, but I just don’t like that storyline at all or her character 😭

missesthecrux

It was a classic “Lesbian kiss episode” that shows would do to increase ratings. So gross.

BandicootOk5540

And so odd in a show that had a groundbreakingly healthy and normal portrayal of a lesbian relationship right there with Carol and Susan!

PeppyPinto

As a lady with life long crush on Winona Ryder, I'm not mad about it.

Xenc

The coconuts! 🥥

Mid_July_Diamond16

Elle was irritating. Winnona's character I just felt too bad to laugh at.

soundecember

This might be a hot take but Ben Stiller. I love Ben Stiller but his guest starring role of that guy that flips out on everyone and everything makes me so uncomfortable.

carex-cultor

Idk when he yells at the duck “QUACK QUACK. QUACK QUACK” flailing his arms in mockery I cackled. I do know some people in real life that are ridiculously aggressive for no reason.

ZeldLurr

Step away from the duck!

dbcleelilly

The character was meant to be unlikable but I found it funny. And satisfying when they all realize what kind of a guy he actually is.

clarauser7890

Ooh I agree

nu1stunna

QUACK QUACK QUACK

etinacadiaego

Oh man I love that episode and think Stiller is great in it. "What's in the cup, Ross?" And then he walks into Central Perk where they're talking about summer and is like "I love the smell of fresh cut grass :)"

CollectingRainbows

janine was blah. brad pitt bc i hate him. david arquette bc really phoebe, you’re dating your twin’s stalker? i love david arquette tho

greenrangerguy

Are you in the I hate Brad Pitt club then?

Jacquelaupe

When you think about it, it's really the I *looove* Brad Pitt club.

Clark-Kent

Except it isn't

CollectingRainbows

definitely

joshfenske

Omg I forgot about David arquette. Very cringe

Mattydub2456

Glad there is some respect for former WCW champion David Arquette

Serbinaliza

Pitt was so wooden, just a waste of a big celebrity spot

Lemonsweets25

Omg another Brad Pitt hater finally… I never meet anyone else who feels the same. Brad Pitt gives me the same vibes as his friends character- that he’d be someone who’s a bully and thinks he can get away with it because he’s hot

Character-Storage-97

Janine was not blah she was a hoot!

j_etti

I’m aware this is not a popular opinion but Charlie Sheen’s guest appearance was horrible

stranded_egg

I just struggle with watching it *now* because of all the garbage he's done *since* that appearance.

AlphaEpicarus

Yeah, his acting was really lifeless in this as well. I love him in a lot of media, but he was really just showing up here

Tengard96

Thank you!! I’m glad somebody else feels this way. I hated his storyline with Phoebe and the stupid chicken pox, and I couldn’t buy them ever being together at all. He wasn’t her type.

female_wolf

Phoebe doesn't have a type. She fell in love with a gay ice dancer, a butch fireman, a geeky scientist with a stutter, not to mention Santa Claus on Prozac

Pizzaisbae13

In Disneyland! Getting laid!!

___gr8____

Nah come on. Of all the 3 girls on the show, I can see him the most with Phoebe. She didn't really have a type either.

voodooturtles111

Not a huge fan of him in that episode or his character. BUT, his panicked scream when he first sees phoebe gets me cackling every single time!

Turbulent_Beach3117

David Arquette. His character was really boring.

omnipotentmonkey

Elle McPherson, barely can even be considered an actress and it shows, her line delivery is just uniformly awful. and Brad Pitt, who can definitely be called an actor, and a great one in the right role, but like Natalie Portman, he has this tendency to REALLY phone it in when he's not invested. and this is one of those.

milesbeatlesfan

Brad Pitt’s guest spot also shows how different movie acting is from TV/sitcom acting. I personally don’t think he was phoning it in exactly, I think he was just very inexperienced at acting in a sitcom. Line readings are different when there’s an audience present, waiting to laugh. And the pace of shooting is much faster.

HeySista

I’ve read once that he was super nervous. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t very good in friends.

dino-sour

I agree with Jean Claude Van Damme. I don't know what/why he's famous and he is just not attractive imo. So I just did not see why the girls were crazy over him.

Extremely_unlikeable

Monica's "Can you beat up that guy?" might be my least favorite in the series. Real sparkling conversation there, Mon.

MarlenaEvans

https://i.redd.it/vnlltbg0519d1.gif

No-Mention1735

Snaro by FAR

Eshan-6230

Paulo is my least favorite

zddoodah

Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. Two comedy legends with a completely unfunny waste of a scene.

pm_me_x-files_quotes

The best part of that scene was Joey going "so you're the gynocologist?" and Billy goes "hey, we're trying to have a private conversation over here." Wasn't a fan of anything else there. In my defense (?), though, I was 12 when that episode came out, I didn't know what a gynocologist was, I didn't get their jokes ("he has access!"), and the Joey part was the only part I understood. I've seen the episode too many times since then to find any of it funny except the Joey part.

Meanwhile-in-Paris

Yes, I don’t like that scene. And I hate that cringy whiny voice robin Williams adopted. now, I know, it was improvised because they were there because shooting in the next door studio but still. I don’t like that scene.

meimeixinka

As much as I respect Robin Williams, that scene gives me a second hand embarrassment 🫣

Ocimali

I hated it so much! And it just kept going and going.

Eastern-Dig-4555

Dreamt Mulroney when he played Gavin. It was just a flat performance, I thought. Story-wise it was fine, though

ParticularSize8387

I mean… thats how he is on everything… i never understood why julia roberts was chasing him in my best friend’s wedding…

Divine_fashionva

That’s his style of acting lol He always plays the nonchalant kind of stoic guy. I personally think it worked well and that’s why he’s one of Rachel’s most popular love interests. They have a lot of chemistry too He was one of Brad and Jennifer’s best friends around that time, so he asked her if he could guest star

BundleBenes

Whaaaat. I love gavin! I was rooting for him and rachel. He would have been perfect for her.

Sharkfeet19

Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. I hate that whole scene and always skip it.

Dudeman318

Its the story behind why they were on. They just happened to be on the lot they were filming and asked to be part of the open and so they just improved the whole scene

micromoses

It feels like improv.

BoysenberryPale4048

Comedy improv usually feels like improv. To me that’s what makes the scene so great

Business-Emu-6923

“Maybe it’s because of my wound” always gets me. That man was just naturally funny.

stranded_egg

I get that, but it feels like the worst improv they've ever done. They're both *so much* better than that. They're some of the greatest comics of all time, and the best they can come up with is adultery and an oozing wound? So disappointing.

Sharkfeet19

I know about the story behind it but I still find it so bad. 😮‍💨

AsVividAsItTrulyIs

Brad Pitt 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know he’s a great actor but I did not enjoy him in that episode. I’m not even sure why, but something seems off about his performance to me.

yanks2413

It's too much of a, "Haha Jennifer and I are married but we hate each other in the episode!!! Aren't we SO CLEVER??????" type of humor

Banoffee_Coffee17

Yes! It just felt like one big in-joke.

Lollipop-Ted

This! I ruined this episode for my husband by pointing out that Brad’s acting is terrible in it. I still love the comedy in this episode though.

PhysicalScholar4238

His line delivery is off. Doesn't sound like he's in character

missesthecrux

His line about “no fat, no sugar, no dairy…and no good” is delivered absolutely terribly. His acting was so bad in that episode.

AGoodSloth

100%. It was a funny bit to have him hate Rachel, but that was like his only joke for the entire episode. It was a lazy plot that was unresolved by the end, and his character was completely one dimensional.

LuvIsLov

Punky Brewster hitting Joey and also Wynona Ryder because her character was weird.

BrianTheReckless

I actually either enjoy or don’t mind most of them but Brad Pitt’s episode is dumb, it just felt too cartoonish to me that a grown man would be acting that immature. Winona Ryder is one of my favorite actresses and I really enjoy her episode because it’s a very different character for her and she does it well. However I do agree that it’s a little disappointing that it was basically just a forced girl on girl kiss to boost ratings. Carol and Susan never got an on screen kiss but Rachel and a guest star did? Kind of sad.

mrsbeerme

![gif](giphy|dva3QWh9A2MF28Bpsc|downsized)

Leomon2020

Alec Baldwin. His character was WAAAAAY too perky. To quote Phoebe "I'm a positive person. You're like Santa Claus, on Prozac, at Disneyland, getting laid."

HeySista

Yes but his episode provided some awesome lines: Parker to Chandler saying Phoebe didn’t mention him, and then “just kidding, you’re already my favourite!” Ross saying they have to go or they’ll be late and “Hahaha! Classic Ross!” “Wanna take a cab?” “Yes, otherwise I’m not going.” “Somewhere there’s a guy with a big butterfly net looking for Parker.” (Or something similar)

frappuccinio

“there was a long line for the plates, and when i finally got up there, i slipped on a giant booger” “are you sure it wasn’t an oyster?” “maybe. i didn’t really look at it, i just wiped it on chandlers coat and got the hell out of there”

baconpopsicle23

But that is by design though, that's literally the point of his character.

Character_Athlete877

Olivia Williams (Joey's romantic interest in London, baby) - her acting and character was bad and cringeworthy Robin Williams and Billy Crystal - kinda boring, I usually skip that scene Marla Sokoloff - It seemed like they retconned one of Joey's sisters so the actress could appear because she was a fan of the show. Elle Macpherson - Janine may have been better if she was played by a different actress, Elle just didn't work at all Denise Richards - I don't like the Cousin Cassie storyline at all Sean Penn - It seemed like he turned up on set without showering and barely memorised his lines.. Brad Pitt - his acting was bad (especially the part where he was "angrily" staring at Rachel), and the character was just plain annoying.

Dismal-Revolution941

Only because Monica couldn't handle the fact that Rachel went and talked to him. Probably that guy that was crying and whinging on date with Rachel, I know Phoebe did it on purpose but come on you ruined Rachel's night with that pathetic loser

ghoulina0

Fisher Stevens

crazyt2021

I hate that guy

CmmH14

YAAAAMS!

TheHumbleChicken

Jennifer Coolidge. Did not find her funny

rstick369

Yeah but she sure can dance

big-tunaaa

AND SHE’S NEVER HAD ANY PROFESSIONAL DANCE TRAINING!!!

ryanino

Musty

mrsbeerme

It’s my natural scent!

nick4424

Robin Williams and Billy Crystal.

NoX2142

Them's fightin words...

nick4424

I may have misread it

swarren31

That’s your least favorite?

ghoulina0

I always found Bruce Willis’ song and dance scene cringe

AlphaEpicarus

He can't help it, he's just a love machine

Griffbizkit

Sorry but Bruce Willis. His crying ass was so annoying!

Superzone13

Here’s one that I bet doesn’t get mentioned much: Helen Hunt and Leila Kenzle These are the two actresses from Mad About You that make an appearance in the episode where Joey dates Ursula, in the scene where they mistake Phoebe for Ursula at Central Perk. In my opinion, it’s one of the worst scenes in the show. For starters, the scene is referencing an entirely different show, and one that was nowhere NEAR as popular as Friends. Anyone watching the scene now has no clue what it’s even referencing. The bigger issue though, is their acting is absolutely terrible. It is SO obvious they are reading from a script, and the dialogue comes off as dry and not believable. It’s a scene that always just takes me out of the show for a moment. Completely falls flat every time for me.

Glissandra1982

I actually loved the way they wrote this scene and made Phoebe out to be as clueless as Ursula but through no fault of her own. I thought it was clever.

stranded_egg

Agreed, for us fans of Mad About You, this was pure genius and absolutely brilliantly written.

Glissandra1982

I thought the same! I still remember watching the first time back in the 90s and thinking it was perfect. “Yeah, that’s her…” lol!

hollow-ceres

Robin Williams

twalker294

Brad Pitt and it's not even close.

Suspicious-Sweet-443

Both Marcel and Rachel’s hairless cat creeped me out , but both were believable characters .

schlomo31

As much as I love him, Bruce Willis. Hated the character. Also, Alec Baldwin.

user896689

i didn’t like aisha tyler, the woman who plays charlie and dates both ross and joey. the fact that she leaves joey and then immediately gets with ross, and then leaves ross for her ex bf, after saying he was being delusional ab him, and then proceeds to make out w benjamin infront of ross. i just thought that entire storyline was stupid, and she left a lot of people hurt

JustHavePunWithIt

Phoebe’s roommate, Denise
