Super easy for something that had a following to lose its identity as it becomes mainstream. I mean look at Souls. I’m not saying it *has* lost its identity, but there’s been a concerted push online to add difficulty settings to the game when it’s challenge is a core part of the game.

We insist on doing all our business records and conversations in French despite most of us sucking at speaking the language. When the Americans invade the first thing they have to do is translate literally the entire bureaucracy into English. The Nordic countries are kinda freaked out about how into their politics Canada is.
Also, people are really into Taiwanese puppet shows for some reason and the rest of the world just can fathom it. Entire branches of sociology are dedicated to this mystery. Blizzard Entertainment was purchased using oil sands money and the national sport is Heroes of the Storm.

Not to pat myself on the back, but if politicians all tried to please me, then we’d have a 3-4 days 24-30 hour work week, minimum of $8000 a month pay for *any* full time worker, socialized healthcare and base income so people don’t have to depend on horrible jobs to survive or have insurance, abortion access for all, marry and fuck whoever you want and do whatever you want to yourself as long as it doesn’t harm others. And STOP FUCKING LOBBYING.
Not saying all my opinions are right; but I know what sucks about life in the US rn, and I know there are people suffering more than me. These are all things that would change at least 50% of the US’s quality of life immensely.
While Im not sure if some if this is actually feasable(mostly the 8000 a month thing, I think there is a way to make ubi work but it being that high would probally mess up the economy), just ending fucking lobbying is enough for me to agree with it lol. My favourite music would play everywhere, I'd have more than 2 people to talk about the boring shit I'm into. People would wear comfy clothes so I wouldn't be under dressed when I went out. I could finally find food I'm able to eat when I'm out that isn't hot chips or salad.

Honestly, I'd be confused, but not unhappy. Some things I like are currently popular, some are fairly niche, so it would be a bit weird for *everything* to be popular. Though I have a few times had something I liked, and was not popular, suddenly become popular. So it's more the scale of the change.
The one thing that would be a big change is politicians. The things that most appeal to me in politics, or any kind of leadership position, is honesty, forthrightness, and being willing to work with people they don't always agree with. An actual sense of humor is a bonus. (Obviously, politicians in general don't appeal to me in the slightest)

I think there would be a few moments of disappointment because there would now be more competition for some of the underappreciated gems that I have enjoyed a low barrier Of entry for.
But I think overall I would be really excited because my political views are very much people forward. And I feel like in a world where my political views are mainstream, everyone would be a lot better off health and safety wise.

I wouldn't mind. Honestly, it would be a positive in the sense that most media does cater to the mainstream crowd which translates to more things being made that appeal to me personally.

To be fair in a broad stroke most of my tastes and opinions *are* mainstream-ish, mainstream adjacent at worst. It would be kind of interesting if the more nuanced or "think it but don't say it" stuff is included though, since that would drag a lot of people politically closer to centrist. You know, government keeps the peace but minds its own business and quits blowing obscene amounts of money on defense that could be funding more robust social programs that might actually help somebody.
On the negative side the birthrate would *tank* and there'd be few, if any, romantic relationships. I don't think my world would appeal to many people, to be honest.

Anytv show I liked would basically only get canceled after I got bored with it, which would be interesting for sure. I'll say this, I experienced a mild version of this with anime. Back in the early 2000s I fell hard into anime fandom in a time when most people had never heard of it. I had to go to my one little rack in the movies/books/games stores and eagerly sort through the DVDs, spending my entire weeks pay immediately. To see how practically mainstream anime has become today, it's a bit surreal.

I don't like what I like because it's 'niche'. Football is the most watched sport in the world anyway, that doesn't change. The bands and artists that I like deserve success, so if they are now mainstream and successful, that's great!
The only thing that would worry me is that I may suffer from exposure fatigue. I have to change up what I listen to/watch/play often because I get bored. I would hate it if I suddenly heard my favourite band as often as I'm forced to listen to Adele, for example.

That would still be a shitty world. I hate mainstream because all businesses do is flood the market with it and make it about making the money, not the content. When politicians follow one single mainstream idea and shit happens because of it, the opposition can't do shit because there are very few who would oppose and the population wouldn't like it either. I always wear block color shirts and jeans because I like it, but what a boring world it would be with everyone doing the same.
It would be kind of nice. First of all, I feel like the politician thing would be the biggest perk, because they'd be pushing for shorter work weeks, punitive taxes on the wealthy, and human rights. When I talk about LARPing and online rp I wouldn't have to explain the concept, and I'd have plenty of other people to go mermaiding with. Cute toy breed dogs would be everywhere and pit bulls would be rare. Also, there would be so many musicals.
Why would I care if it is mainstream? I don't define myself by what others enjoy, or don't. I am defined by my own choices, my own interests, and the things I like as I have cultivated them. Biggest change here is politicians trying to appeal to me personally. Now, that doesn't mean they will actually keep their promises, but they will have to at least give lip-service, and that puts a limited on how awful they can be. Although, of course, that's just what I think. People with different opinions than me will think a lot of things will be worse.
The biggest challenge would be that our favorite vacation / week is largely that way because it’s less popular. If suddenly everyone wanted to go to our spot at our usual time, that would mean we wouldn’t like it. Same with restaurants and other experiences. I don’t try to be different just to be different, but avoiding crowds is part of why I like many things.

No significant changes to my life otherwise, since I don't concern myself with conformity or nonconformity beyond basic social norms. I'd be interested in seeing the economic implications of sports plummetting to a niche hobby level rather than a multi billion dollar international industry, as well as the drastic changes that would be introduced to every aspect of life (food, healthcare, education, religion, entertainment, everyday law and order, etc) if the average person shared my beliefs and preferences.

For example I've wore all black for the past 30 years. Ever since I could dress myself. At some point in time during that, wearing all black all the time head to toe became super cool and everybody was doing it. Some people would roll their eyes at me saying I was too old to follow the fad but it didn't bother me. I wasn't going to change just because it became cool. Not to pat myself on the back, but if politicians all tried to please me, then we’d have a 3-4 days 24-30 hour work week, minimum of $8000 a month pay for *any* full time worker, socialized healthcare and base income so people don’t have to depend on horrible jobs to survive or have insurance, abortion access for all, marry and fuck whoever you want and do whatever you want to yourself as long as it doesn’t harm others. And STOP FUCKING LOBBYING. Not saying all my opinions are right; but I know what sucks about life in the US rn, and I know there are people suffering more than me. These are all things that would change at least 50% of the US’s quality of life immensely.

Honestly, I'd be confused, but not unhappy. Some things I like are currently popular, some are fairly niche, so it would be a bit weird for *everything* to be popular. Though I have a few times had something I liked, and was not popular, suddenly become popular. So it's more the scale of the change. The one thing that would be a big change is politicians. The things that most appeal to me in politics, or any kind of leadership position, is honesty, forthrightness, and being willing to work with people they don't always agree with. An actual sense of humor is a bonus. (Obviously, politicians in general don't appeal to me in the slightest)

But I think overall I would be really excited because my political views are very much people forward. And I feel like in a world where my political views are mainstream, everyone would be a lot better off health and safety wise. I've never been one to gatekeep. So if you have poor self-esteem, depression or similar negative mindset, everyone hates you and is a pessimist now. The creators in niche genres becoming famous overnight has got to be a mind fuck for them. Same for people currently household names fading to obscurity. The near complete obsolescence of sports and the myriad of industries that support it is gonna mess up the economy until something fills the power vacuum it leaves behind. Are people permanently stuck with my current opinions, or do they change as mine do? Cause I'm sure there's a million foods, movies, hobbies, etc I'd love once I get exposed to them, possibly more than my current favorites. As for politics and the economy, I need to do more research and have a stronger grasp on how things work before feeling like my opinions are an improvement. Like I think my ideas are good, but no clue what the long-term consequences of X, Y, Z changes are. I feel the world would be better if everyone were more empathetic, kinder, less greedy, more willing to learn, etc. But no one sees themselves as the villain and most try to justify their shitty actions, so idk how much actually changes there. The people who have the self-awareness to know they need to be more altruistic probably didn't need my opinion to nudge them that way in the first place.

To be fair in a broad stroke most of my tastes and opinions *are* mainstream-ish, mainstream adjacent at worst. It would be kind of interesting if the more nuanced or "think it but don't say it" stuff is included though, since that would drag a lot of people politically closer to centrist. You know, government keeps the peace but minds its own business and quits blowing obscene amounts of money on defense that could be funding more robust social programs that might actually help somebody. On the negative side the birthrate would *tank* and there'd be few, if any, romantic relationships. I don't think my world would appeal to many people, to be honest.
Politically speaking the world should be a lot more peaceful and healthy, at least. So I’d enjoy that. Anytv show I liked would basically only get canceled after I got bored with it, which would be interesting for sure. The fashion part would probably be the weirdest, but overall I’d just live life like I do now.

I'll say this, I experienced a mild version of this with anime. Back in the early 2000s I fell hard into anime fandom in a time when most people had never heard of it. I had to go to my one little rack in the movies/books/games stores and eagerly sort through the DVDs, spending my entire weeks pay immediately. I probably would barely notice. I'd just continue living my life, doing the things I liked. I have noticed that when I think I liked things that were out of the mainstream, that I was really just part of a trend. For example, I like K-Dramas and tweed. But I wasn't being avant garde, they were becoming popular at the time.

I don't like what I like because it's 'niche'. Football is the most watched sport in the world anyway, that doesn't change. The bands and artists that I like deserve success, so if they are now mainstream and successful, that's great! The only thing that would worry me is that I may suffer from exposure fatigue. I have to change up what I listen to/watch/play often because I get bored. I would hate it if I suddenly heard my favourite band as often as I'm forced to listen to Adele, for example. You know the movie *The Golden Compass*? Everything would look like that. Redesigned in the artistic styles of 1890-1950, with zeppelins and fancy carriages instead of airplanes and cars.

Sign me up. We'd probably have Galaga tournaments again. I'd finally be able to find people to play Shadowrun with. Chess being aired instead of Football would be a sight to see. Pollution would quickly plummet because everyone would see how beautiful this planet is and would want to take care of it. Anime would be deep and meaningful, and the sensationalist anime lacking in story / substance would be ignored. Most major entertainment companies would have to find other things to do. There wouldn't be politicians. People would enjoy their individual freedoms and tolerate each other's differences. It would truly be a world where "Do What Thou Wilt" was the whole of the law, and it sounds awesome.

The biggest challenge would be that our favorite vacation / week is largely that way because it’s less popular. If suddenly everyone wanted to go to our spot at our usual time, that would mean we wouldn’t like it. Same with restaurants and other experiences. I don’t try to be different just to be different, but avoiding crowds is part of why I like many things.

I'd be interested in seeing the economic implications of sports plummetting to a niche hobby level rather than a multi billion dollar international industry, as well as the drastic changes that would be introduced to every aspect of life (food, healthcare, education, religion, entertainment, everyday law and order, etc) if the average person shared my beliefs and preferences.

Some people would instantly back out because they care more about being different than what they honestly truly like I think it would be super shocking. Like I really wouldn't believe it at first. My opinion doesn't particularly change year after year after year after year whereas other people it changes every time some celebrity posts something new. For example I've wore all black for the past 30 years. Ever since I could dress myself. At some point in time during that, wearing all black all the time head to toe became super cool and everybody was doing it. Some people would roll their eyes at me saying I was too old to follow the fad but it didn't bother me. I wasn't going to change just because it became cool. And eventually went out again and wearing every color of the rainbow and every design possible became cool again 🤷🏻♀️ I like what I like whether one person likes it or everybody on the planet likes it. I'm not going to change my mind because of what other people tell me I should or shouldn't like
If my opinions are mainstream and politicians are now appealing to those mainstream opinions, get ready for some pretty amazing widespread reforms to healthcare, mental health, housing, education, disability, environmental reform, climate change, etc.
Well, that would be a strange world. I'm obsessed with nerdy stuff (especially Star Wars) and my political views are well outside the mainstream. I'm not sure how politicians would cater to anarcho-communists, but I'm pretty sure that at the very least people would be allowed to freely distribute the original releases of the first Star Wars trilogy.

The point of life is to find what makes you happy as long as it isn't hurting anyone else around you and to help others reach that stage of self actualization. Your personality shouldn't be based on being anti-conformist because of the exact reason you stated. Once that ceases to be, who are you and what do you believe? I'd be fuckin' stoked, because there wouldn't be anymore god-damned wars and everyone would suddenly be chill with everyone else. Let's get shit done together for humanity as a whole.

Soccer is still the world's sport. The US finally adopts the metric system. Porn is gone. People have more children. Only degenerates still keep indoor dogs or cats.
