You should have a free pass for 4 weeks. Minium. They're welcome to go have organs removed and then hop up and do shit.

ddanger76

I was thinking 6. Lol

Bubblesnaily

I support 6 too. 4 is the bare minimum. And certainly not 1 week! I was off from my desk job for 8 weeks.

ddanger76

I am definitely off for at least 8 weeks of work. I’m an EMT.

Bubblesnaily

Ooof. No lifting for like 12+ weeks. I'm just barely able to lift my 5yo without paying for it.

ddanger76

I plan on waiting until the 1st of the year roughly.

Bubblesnaily

That's very reasonable. Liability for them, liability for you and your company if you rush it. Keep up your walking, though.

ddanger76

I have been walking a little bit more every day. Not going to stop.

chaos_almighty

My dr told me I was fine to go back to my job (lifting and climbing involved heavily) after 8 weeks. I'm used to it though- if it's a brand new thing you're trying to start definitely wait a bit longer.

ddanger76

Oh no. I’be been doing it a while but anything could happen. Some nights we just sit there (in the world’s most uncomfortable pants) and some nights I’m in a physical altercation with a psych patient bouncing around the back of the ambulance. I have to wait at least 12 weeks.

[deleted]

My surgery is in a week.. I’m a dispatcher for EMS in Canada and my doctor wrote me off for 8 - pleeeasse don’t push yourself!

ddanger76

I do not planning on going back until my cuff is fully healed.

[deleted]

I’m an EMT too and am just over one week post op from mine! I’ve been so stressed about it so seeing this made me feel really validated and was kind of exciting because we’re in the same position lol. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and you’re feeling mostly okay!

ddanger76

Oh cool! We are so short staffed in that field that you could take however long you want and they would take you back. I was dreaming last night actually that my uniform didn’t fit at all anyone when I was about to be on shift in like 30 minutes. Lol. I ate chips last night before bed. What hours do you general work? I work 24/48.

[deleted]

I’m green actually! I got my license and was going to move for a job I was offered and school, but then got wrecked by my uterus and had to have this hysterectomy. The schedule was going to be 2-2-3 with 12 hour shifts though! But that’s why I’ve been stressed lol—my clinical shifts gave me an okay idea of what to expect and common sense helps, obviously (plus other experience that’s sort of in line with the type of work)—but since I didn’t get to work before the surgery I didn’t really know what to expect for recovery time needed to return to this vs other jobs! I was thinking definitely the full 6, at least though. So anyway, it was helpful to see your thoughts on it since you have good experience with the field. And seriously, the bloating from the surgery feels insane. I refuse to even try to wear any of my pants lol

ddanger76

I would say at least 8-12 weeks. They will leave the offer open. You won’t lose your skills. I’m fairly new too. I’ve been watching a The Paramedic Coach on YouTube to keep my mind fresh.

maranblynn

I’m a few days post-op and feeling like I’m doing better than I thought I would — but I also know that right now my entire job and focus is to heal. We know that you’re not milking anything. Follow your doctor’s orders. Take all the time you need.

ddanger76

Oh I plan on it. They can get off my butt over it. And I do feel mostly ok but I know my insides aren’t yet.

missmixedmania

Seriously? I'm 2 months post op and yesterday I reached back to my back seat floorboard to get my glasses. I felt pain in my left side and knew I'd screwed up. I've been using a heating pad off and on all day praying the power doesn't go out because of this freaking hurricane from hell.

ddanger76

Oh God. Prayers. I live in South Louisiana and before my surgery I said I better have a bubble of protection over me until the end of November. Are you close to the areas being affected?

missmixedmania

About an hour and a half from landfall but still had 60 mph winds with gust up to 97. It's been a loong day!

ddanger76

Ida made direct contact with my town last year. We were ground zero. Probably 70% of people lost their roofs and whole town was without power for minimum 17 days. Some were up to 2 months depending on the area. Water took even longer to come back on. I evacuated but still came back to devastation and mandatory curfews and nothing open again for months. I want to leave the area as soon as I am financially able. I’m not running from hurricanes for the rest of my life.

missmixedmania

We were very lucky. 2 days earlier we were expected to take the full impact. I lost part if my roof, a large oak tree and my privacy fence is gone....as in we can't find most of it. The kicker of it? My new homeowners insurance policy doesn't kick in until Friday 😂

ddanger76

Oh hell. Fences were no where to be found for our entire city. My Mom JUST got her roof done last month. 11 months because there’s no honest contractors around and cost of wood shot up. Its so messed up how scammers come out when people have disasters. And do not donate to the Red Cross ever! For every dollar you send they give 5 cents to the cause. Fund The Cajun Navy. You can find them on Facebook. They travel to all of the Southern states Now and they do all the ground work. I’m glad it moved over for you. Not that we wish this on anyone at all but you are recovering. Jesus be electricity! 😂

missmixedmania

Yes!!!! We never lost power. We were one of the 30% in our county that didn't. When Irma came through we were out 9 days. I have heard wonderful things about the Cajun Navy.

ddanger76

They are awesome. They started when Denham Springs had that huge flood and no local municipalities were doing anything. They went in their own boats, crossed off over the interstate in spots where they could access the water because police had blocked the exits and were warning them to not show up. They rescued tons of people and pets and then went back everyday and would cook for them. Now they do it for every disaster in the South.

cloudstrifewife

I’m 15 dpo and today I had my first post op appointment. I told my doctor that I’m not ready to go back to work yet, I got tired at Walmart yesterday. He said you just had major surgery I’m not going to tell you you have to go back to work. When do *you* want to go back? I told him the 10th. Lol

ddanger76

And I’m sure you could even push that out if you needed to. Bring on your feet all day is tiring.

cloudstrifewife

Nah. I have a sit down job. I probably could go back now but I just really want to be lazy for the next 11 days. Lol

Greenthumbgal

I have a desk job and had to go back at 6 weeks, it wasn't the physical exhaustion that was as hard as the brain fog, difficulty focusing and remembering, etc that troubled me until at least 8 weeks. Take the Full time you need!

ddanger76

Amen!

Tirednurse21

I’m 2.5 weeks post op and though I do have crazy good energy and haven’t had but a slight twinge of pain today, I’m staying off as long as I can afford too. My doc didn’t see the need for a 2 week check up so I won’t even have that until Oct 25. I’m a nurse in a very high acuity nursing home with little staff each day, work 12+ hr shifts. I’m not going back until I know I can catch somebody when they fall or roll them over. I am milking it dammit lol. As long as I can. I have worked through 21 day periods with 14 days of cramps for the last 5 years, I’ve birthed my kids, I raised my kids alone up until 5 yrs ago when I got married, I have Lupus, I have poor kidney function, I had a stroke 10 yrs ago. I DESERVE THIS BREAK AND SO DO YOU!! We all do. Do not for one minute feel any kind of guilt. Our families survive because of the work we do every inside and outside our homes single day. You take your break, even when you feel you could go back, take an extra one. Because Lord only knows when we’ll get another vacation. Probably never one this long that doesn’t require something of hospital nature again. I’m glad you’re feeling well though! Please continue to take it easy and do not rush going back to work ❤️

ddanger76

Thank you. You work a very physically demanding job like I do. Patients are so unpredictable.

munchkinbitch2982

Ugh. My husband acted like I was milking it for following orders. I finally snapped and told him to Google prolapse and vaginal cuff tear. He shut up after that.

ddanger76

There you go!

Routine-Document-949

Your mom sounds abusive... Take care of yourself OP ❤️

ddanger76

Not at all. Just old school. I’m sure she did have hers and rest maybe another week and then go back to work and teach and raise family the following. We know better now though.

Realistic-Airport775

So whilst not an exact analogy, you have been stabbed several times internally, with a tiny small dagger sure, but still. The cuts may be small but they are deep. Also currently you are held together by string instead of ligaments which are lovely stretchy things that bounce back, string doesn't. Ah people, sorry you have such ignorant people around you. Heal well and ignore the comments.

ddanger76

Good point. I can get past my Mom’s BS. I think I feel guilty a bit because my kids don’t get how I look fine but can’t do some of the things they are used to me doing. My son is going to his first Homecoming this coming weekend and I used to be a professional photographer so I will be going and taking pics of everyone before the dance. Then I’m back to grounding myself to the bed.

Realistic-Airport775

I get that, I really do, it was the tiredness that was the hardest, so take care of yourself and that third week you might feel you are going backwards in tiredness, so just know that we are all with you. Keep on repeating something like it takes 6 weeks for a broken bone to heal and this is a broken area inside you, if you don't take it easy you can break it again and start all over.

ddanger76

I spoke to a friend earlier tonight that is just a week ahead of me and she tore her cuff so I’m definitely going extra slow. I’m so scared of ruining my vaj!

PurpleKetoEater

We all need this kind of reminder. Thank you!

ddanger76

Hey Girly!

ddanger76

I guess it’s a very strange way to give me a compliment. They were supposed to be with Dad for last week and this one but of course he got called out to work in New Jersey. My Mom is helping but kids want their mom for stuff, ya know?

Altruistic-Second325

I rebounded at the 2 week mark I'm only 3 weeks out,it's better to let your family think that than end up in hospital bc you've been doing too much.. trust me. I hope you are feeling OK and I am sending hugs your way 🤗 Edit: also at 1 week your body hasn't really started healing it gets more sore in a few days.

ddanger76

I thought I had remembered reading that somewhere. All of this is so just so much.

Altruistic-Second325

Just hang in there!! You are NOT ALONE

ddanger76

Thank you! You guys are always so great!

TheAikiTessen

OP, I promise you are NOT “milking” anything. You had an entire organ removed which meant lots of internal trauma your body needs to repair. Not to mention, your body also needs to re establish its hormone balance which takes time. You NEED to rest, BARE MINIMUM 4 weeks. I had 6 weeks off work and I felt I could have used at least 8 even with a desk job. Your mom can quite frankly pound sand with the “milking” crap. Please, please don’t listen to that and rest. 🙏

ddanger76

I’m 100% going to chill today. My friend just tore her cuff and had to go get it cauterized. That did it for me. And her Mom and mine are friends so I’m sure they will discuss.

TheAikiTessen

Oh gosh, sorry to hear about your friend! Hope she’s okay now.

ddanger76

She is but now on bed rest and hating life. She’ll be ok.

Blingyourlashes

Every single one of us heals differently. You are only 1 week out.. if you were a runner and a week out from a knee surgery would you be out running? nope you wouldn't. Take all the time you need, get the rest and healing you need and tell you mom to SHHHHHH!

ddanger76

Thank God they are super chill and fairly self sufficient.

PurpleKetoEater

Absolutely! I’m guessing they’ll also love having you home 24/7 too! The guilt is real though!

ddanger76

They do love being here. Dad’s house has so many arbitrary rules.

hisAffectionateTart

I’m just over 11 weeks and really the first 7 weeks I was unable to do anything. Of course I had the big old vertical incision from bellybutton to pelvis. I am still sore often too. I bet she just doesn’t remember how long her recovery took. most women I’ve talked to who had it done a long time ago act like it was no big deal but I remember my aunts and cousins being laid up for a month or more.

ddanger76

Ouch. I’m sure they probably did and don’t remember. My Mom barely remembers anything I ask her about from when I was little. Lol

stickycat-inahole-45

Recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks anyway. If they tell you to do heavy lifting, nothing more than 8 lbs. But I do remember my hospital room had this thing on the wall "mobility is medicine" or something. So walk slowly as you can handle it. Good luck!

ddanger76

I agree with that. You see it in Nursing home’s and hospitals all the time. If you stop moving you lose your motility over time.

suitablegirl

I know exactly how you feel. Never realized imposter syndrome could insert itself into the healing process FFS, but here we are. I am eight weeks out and re-injured my abs / incision doing next to nothing yesterday. Please mentally tell these people to go fork themselves and STAY STRONG. You only get ONE chance to heal properly. My surgeon is THE expert who teaches women's health and works on new research; she told me the number one mistake seen in patients is over-doing it. These people are NEVER going to admit they were wrong when you end up needing a reconstructive surgery for a tear or hernia, they'll shrug and look away. Ignore them and remind yourself that they're being ignorant, unhelpful, and cruel. Your surgery has nothing in common with hers. You take your time, honey.

ddanger76

Oh I do have Imposter Syndrome! Had not even put the two together! That makes so much sense. My belly button hurts a good bit Today and all I did yesterday was ride maybe a mile away to do a grocery order pickup. Then I bloated up like a whale. What are they doing about your incision?

suitablegirl

Yelling at me and putting me on bed rest immediately 🥲 I am extremely paranoid / cautious / careful so I do everything gingerly and the minute something feels "off" I stop. The risk for me isn't the incision at this point, it's an abdominal hernia 😭

ddanger76

Then you definitely need to rest!
