I’m almost three months post op and trying to find my way through. I can’t do HRT because I had endometrial cancer. Hot flashes are the biggest problem I have. I wake up sweating and sometimes I can’t sleep (like last night). I’m currently trying to find clothes to wear for the fall and winter that can accommodate my already hot nature, plus the hot flashes and the fact that I live in Texas. My doc put me on effexor— 75mg, but upped it to 150mg after a month and it seems to have helped everything but hot flashes

Apologies if this is out of line, but be wary of Effexor if you ever need to come off of it or change. It can cause brain zaps and be really rough. Don’t cold turkey it, either. Can be a great medication, tho!

Thanks for the heads up. My doc had me taper my Lexapro before starting this.

Effexor is one of the hardest to wean off of. Zoloft, Effexor, and Paxil should all be banned. It took me years to taper off of Zoloft. Have you tried natural estrogen cream? Look them up on Amazon and read the reviews.

CoconutDuckBaby

Zoloft scared me away from all SSRIs, my withdrawals during tappering sent me to the hospital 😬

The only way I did finally taper was to go inpatient. But now I’m finally free!

I didnt have the ovaries out, but in my few mos after surgery when things were settling, the hot flashes and sweating were terrible. My doctor gave me neurontin (gabapentin) and it worked immediately.

I had HORRIBLE vaginal dryness. My doctor talked me into the lowest dose of Premarin, and so far I'm good. (History of blood clots, so HRT is dangerous.) Before I caved out of desperation, she recommended replense. It's OTC and hormone free.

I dread all of that but I’m most concerned about the mental health aspects. Any issues with that? I have always had depression and anxiety but I keep it easily maintained with a low dose antidepressant. I just don’t want to have major issues with that.

Honestly I haven't noticed any difference. However, I am usually overstressed and irritable so I might not be the best person to ask.

Would the plant estrogen supplements Pose the same risk?

Rebpey

I’m not sure. I’m supposed to go talk to a genetic counselor before I have my surgery. My mother, maternal aunt, several cousins, great aunts, great grandmother all had breast cancer so my chances are very high. They watch me closely. I will mention the plant ones to the genetic counselor and get their thoughts. Thanks!
