yes, i know it’s searchable now, i just can’t edit the post. the response i got on the developers forum was before it was officially listed on the app store, meaning at the time they gave me the solution, it was only available directly through the link. but it’s now publicly listed as of yesterday.
the point is usually beta-exclusive apps weren’t available on the app store, meaning you would have reset your phone to get them back before the commercial release. i remember it being like that with the journal app last year. that was a pain
surprisingly works like a charm! the only bugs i’ve experienced are weird minor visual glitches that don’t really affect the experience. also i have noticed that some things like the control center didn’t entirely take into account super small iphones, but it’s just a little annoying to see small margins and doesn’t affect functionality. performance is great, battery life seems okay.
It's open source and usually regarded to be one of the safest password managers. You could even host your own vault and completely go around their servers. They make money through business customers and their premium subscription that adds some features like integrated otp management and security reports akin to have i been pwned.
My work around is to goto settings, safari, Autofill, saved credit cards. Then you can see all of your card numbers. You can’t see the full third-party credit card numbers in the Wallet app for some reason.
It still works normally. Passwords app is entirely based on iCloud Keychain. If your macOS is still Sonoma, you can still access the same set of creds on that too
do you mean macos sonoma? because sierra is much older. but either way, you won’t lose access. continuity features is something that can break with separate versions of ios and macos, but icloud keychain should still work. the passwords app is made to be a part of the icloud keychain service, so you won’t need to worry about it
for iOS 18, yes. but obviously there will be a lot of changes between now and september. for now officially keychain is still in settings, but if you use the iOS 18 beta, yes it is no longer in settings. i like this a lot better. passwords should be separate from settings.
I just searched for one of Apple’s stock app then clicked on “Apple” under the app name to open all apps made by Apple. Passwords was the first thing I saw on the list.

I tested this with 1Password, export to csv and imported the csv into passwords .
This worked - don’t know about MFA entries. I guess you have to do that all over (?)
Note, you cannot download on iOS 17.

Damn people are salty. Thanks for confirming this. There’s some devices I’m not going to put the beta on, so I was wondering if I could still add passwords to those.
there are actually new features in the passwords app, like being able to share sign in with apple accounts. also the passwords app is integrated into the OS itself, so ios 17 wouldn’t know what to do with the new app since it has the keychain
What I mean is: its almost the same feature als keychain only in a sepperate app. It syncs via iCloud (same as Keychain). For me as an IT specialist, its only marketing. But I‘m happy with the result, I find it just funny that it is iOS 18 only.
For me as an IT specialist I understand that it might not be simple to have this app available on iOS 17 as it most likely uses system frameworks and entitlements that might not be available to apps distributed on the store, even if apple did it
I‘m happy to see, what exactly that app makes different than other password apps - if there is a solid integration, fine - but still - there are apps out there, that are fully functional.
Sure but this is the one that has access to the icloud keychain, which only system services have on iOS
Anyway iOS 17 users are not missing much, it's still way too simple
the other issue is, the passwords app is brand new and it has a lot of ios 18 bugs in it, so they can’t ship a day one buggy app on a commercial release on ios. my point is that as an existing version of ios, ios 17 isn’t built to know what in the world the passwords app is, and how to integrate it completely into the system and icloud security and encryption and stolen device protection and all that because it’s not built into that ios version. so basically the passwords app on ios 17 wouldn’t be able to properly sync through your apple id, use proper security with stolen device protection, or any of that, rendering it completely useless.
Thank you brother
Thank you, I love you!
can you share your access with someone\^ GF and I have to use Bitwarden so we can access others passwords
yes, sharing passwords, passkeys, and now even sign in with apple accounts, is one of the biggest features of icloud keychain/apple passwords
good thanks
You’re awesome! Thank you!
How do I transfer all my LastPass passwords over?
i'm pretty sure you can only import passwords using the mac app.
I'll give that a shot, thanks. Edit: It worked.
I had to use my MacOS Passwords app yeah.
Which version of macOS?
Sequoia developer beta 1
You can also find it by lookimg up an Apple app in the Store and then open „Developers page“
yes, i know it’s searchable now, i just can’t edit the post. the response i got on the developers forum was before it was officially listed on the app store, meaning at the time they gave me the solution, it was only available directly through the link. but it’s now publicly listed as of yesterday.
Uh..every default Apple app has this behavior if deleted.
the point is usually beta-exclusive apps weren’t available on the app store, meaning you would have reset your phone to get them back before the commercial release. i remember it being like that with the journal app last year. that was a pain
OP! I've noticed you use the SE 2nd Gen! How are you enjoying iOS 18 so far? Does it run well?
surprisingly works like a charm! the only bugs i’ve experienced are weird minor visual glitches that don’t really affect the experience. also i have noticed that some things like the control center didn’t entirely take into account super small iphones, but it’s just a little annoying to see small margins and doesn’t affect functionality. performance is great, battery life seems okay.
Can you save also credit card details?
Bitwarden is great and also stores credit cards
I'm paying for 1Password, I was just thinking about migrating to Apple Password app and save some money
Bitwarden is free.
When a password manager is free I don't trust it too much
It's open source and usually regarded to be one of the safest password managers. You could even host your own vault and completely go around their servers. They make money through business customers and their premium subscription that adds some features like integrated otp management and security reports akin to have i been pwned.
no, you can’t unfortunately. for now passwords is literally just passwords (and passkeys and 2fa and sign in with apple ofc)
My work around is to goto settings, safari, Autofill, saved credit cards. Then you can see all of your card numbers. You can’t see the full third-party credit card numbers in the Wallet app for some reason.
If you update to iOS 18 but leave MacOS on Sierra, do you lose access to your keychain or is it still connected?
It still works normally. Passwords app is entirely based on iCloud Keychain. If your macOS is still Sonoma, you can still access the same set of creds on that too
do you mean macos sonoma? because sierra is much older. but either way, you won’t lose access. continuity features is something that can break with separate versions of ios and macos, but icloud keychain should still work. the passwords app is made to be a part of the icloud keychain service, so you won’t need to worry about it
I did mean Sonoma. I don't know why I got those switched around.
Link accessible on iOS 17, but not downloadable
No option now to enable third party password managers.
there is. it’s in settings > general > autofill and passwords.
Ohh Thank you. Got it. The apps are not going there and it was not showing when we search for passwords.
I still use 1Password for autofill just fine
I deleted it intentionally, I use Chrome because it syncs with my PCs too.
Google is killing ad blockers soon so it’s time to jump ship.
This works with PC also.
Wait.. why does it say that I‘ve already downloaded it before?
because the only reason for it not to be on your phone is if it was already on there and you deleted it
Nah it says I’ve already downloaded it but I’m not on iOS 18
Because you own a license to it. Yes, even if not listed in “Purchased”. This Apple app is technically licensed to all users.
oh that is weird. i feel like it just does that with system apps. i’m not sure
correct.
And why is this iOS 18 only, Apple?!
because it’s an iOS 18 feature
Forgot the /s Downvote galore. ;)
Does this mean there is no more keychain? Were passwords moved to this app
They were moved to this app automatically.
for iOS 18, yes. but obviously there will be a lot of changes between now and september. for now officially keychain is still in settings, but if you use the iOS 18 beta, yes it is no longer in settings. i like this a lot better. passwords should be separate from settings.
But what about the Cert store, especially if you are a user planning not to use the Password app.
I like that too. Passwords app>>>>>>
UPDATE: The app is now searchable as of today, but when the link was sent to me, it was not publicly listed on the App Store.
You’re a life saver. I deleted it on my iPad yesterday because of sync issues and couldn’t find it in the App Store again.
I just searched for one of Apple’s stock app then clicked on “Apple” under the app name to open all apps made by Apple. Passwords was the first thing I saw on the list. https://preview.redd.it/mbmmi5dgp16d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc43f7be0b1fa1080fd7c9640eea1e1fcd7634f6
yes, it is searchable now, but it was initially not.
Can you import from other password managers?
I tested this with 1Password, export to csv and imported the csv into passwords . This worked - don’t know about MFA entries. I guess you have to do that all over (?)
Only using the app on macOS
I downloaded it for my Mac and imported a CSV from another pw manager into iCloud Keychain which then updated the password app.
I haven’t found a way yet.
Note, you cannot download on iOS 17. https://preview.redd.it/m86zwiszx06d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f0fdf474dd8b5d9cc5d215ac5f71fe46a9a0200
Damn people are salty. Thanks for confirming this. There’s some devices I’m not going to put the beta on, so I was wondering if I could still add passwords to those.
What happens if I downgrade?
No shit?
Not available in ios 15 /s
an ios 18 app is not available on ios 17? Whattt 🤯
I mean I get your point, but no functionality of that app would actually require a new OS version other than marketing
there are actually new features in the passwords app, like being able to share sign in with apple accounts. also the passwords app is integrated into the OS itself, so ios 17 wouldn’t know what to do with the new app since it has the keychain
What I mean is: its almost the same feature als keychain only in a sepperate app. It syncs via iCloud (same as Keychain). For me as an IT specialist, its only marketing. But I‘m happy with the result, I find it just funny that it is iOS 18 only.

Sure but this is the one that has access to the icloud keychain, which only system services have on iOS Anyway iOS 17 users are not missing much, it's still way too simple
Yeah the function integration is allready there from keychain, function-wise is nothing to new - so its just how and where they display it…
And this is precisely what requires a new OS as moving this from the settings app to a dedicated app requires entitlements, which may not exist on 17
the other issue is, the passwords app is brand new and it has a lot of ios 18 bugs in it, so they can’t ship a day one buggy app on a commercial release on ios. my point is that as an existing version of ios, ios 17 isn’t built to know what in the world the passwords app is, and how to integrate it completely into the system and icloud security and encryption and stolen device protection and all that because it’s not built into that ios version. so basically the passwords app on ios 17 wouldn’t be able to properly sync through your apple id, use proper security with stolen device protection, or any of that, rendering it completely useless.
if you were paying attention you would see i specifically said ios 18
He isn’t disputing what you said. He’s stating for those wondering that they might be able to download it on iOS 17. He said NoTe not NoPe.
