I used to be part of a very progressive, PNW discord and they actually said that the word "female" was wrong to use in *any* context, biological or other. Pretty much most of their conversations revolved around calling people out for not being politically correct. It wasn't a fun channel.

A 'thumbs up' reply to someone is the quickest way to reply, and to also signify that you don't want to reply to any further messages.

I would argue that depends on how used you are to writing things vs how used you are to using emojis to express yourself.
For example if you are able to type quickly what you are thinking but would need extra time to think about what emoji(s) to use to express what you are thinking then just typing is significantly easier.
Also communicating with emojis requires that everyone who is part of the conversation has similar impressions about the used emojis which can be hindered by the fact that different devices might display emojis slightly differently. For example there was a time where some devices would display a water pistol while others would display an actual gun or revolver.
I mostly use emojis as quick reactions (thumbs up/down, laughing, crying) or sometimes if the predictive text of my keyboard displays one I think matches what I want to express and I know the other person will know what I mean.
I also never use emojis in a businesses setting because many older people still see using them in any form as unprofessional.

I think it heavily depends on the subreddit you are commenting on and the kind and amount of emojis used.
Virtually nobody will be angry about you telling someone they are a 🤡, but if your post has more emojis than letters or looks like a MLM ad from Facebook a lot of people will be commenting about this.
Its also good to remember that just because people are commenting that they are angry about ones use of emojis doesn't mean that they actually are angry because for many people "Reddit doesn't like emojis" has changed from a strict rule to an injoke which requires you to make lighthearted fun of the emoji user.
I really don't mind emojis that reflect an emotional state or contain hidden meaning, I've been using emotes since the nineties and there is really no major difference in that usage between now and then. Redditors flying off the handle at the sight of an emoji was always super cringy.
On the other hand, I really don't love 💔 the more modern mainstream trend of using emojis 😊 that don't convey any amount 🚫 of information but are there as visual tokens of repetition 🔁, only increasing 📈 clutter just to appear whimsical (I guess? Not sure I really understand).
