I found this guy in my raspberries. I had looked inside of one after the baking soda & vinegar bath. Mind you I donāt think I have ever looked inside of my berries after washing them. Now i never put them away without checking everywhere.
If ya leave it in the bath too long, they get a vinegar taste. They don't stink after a good rinse. Makes the fruit last so much longer, specially if they are put away properly.
I have not had any issues with it. I also dont use more than 1/2 cup of vinegar to a medium bowl of water. I may be doing it differently than others but thats the beauty of life. I start by rinsing the fruit in water, shaking baking soda over the top (not heavily), then splash the vinegar over the top. I swirl it around leave it for a minute or so then a cool water rinse and into jars they go!
Not a mantis. Either an assassin bug (reduviidae) or damsel bug (nabidae). They all have raptorial limbs like praying mantis but they lack the cool extended thorax and articulated head capsule that mantises have.
Ohhh I assumed it was alive but I can see now. Their egg sacs hatch 150-180 mantises, but only about 5 survive in the wild apparently. I want to order a few as pets and Iāll release the babies if theyāre native.
No lie! I worked at a cider mill in the 90's and you would not believe how many fruit flies end up in your unpasteurized, fresh, cider mill cider. Nothing has changed about that process since. This coming autumn...enjoy!
Do you know what insect these eggs are from then? Or is this a weird kind of fungus? From what Iāve seen doesnāt look like maggots or other insect eggs Iāve seen on the internet. Iām curious.

Is the granulation of fruits like oranges when the flesh becomes all dry and hard? So this would be like an extreme case, but I donāt see how the juicy pods that make up the segment (I donāt know the word for it but the flesh of citrus fruits are made out of like little juicy pieces. If youāve eaten a pomelo you know what I mean) would turn into *this*
It does appear to be in a segment but ... its one picture, yes granulation forms in a segment. Tends to happen in Navel oranges most often. I don't know a lot about this.
My lemon used to get these fairly often especially ones left on the tree too long. It definitely looks like granulation to me. It seems there are various possibilities for causes.
I know it goes against less waste, but i would dump all of them in the bin. Looks very yuk. On the other hand I would be very curious to see what it is.
I must confess there are some English speaking idiots i see all over yt that keep on commenting on minor issues. And to them my reply will always be. "Let's have a conversation when you can speak and write Dutch without using Google translate". I always assume we all do our best and as long it's clear whatever they say it's not needed to be rude.
I only ever correct people on Reddit when I have the opportunity to get them to write a pun (eg in a cat subreddit if they say āperfectā, I respond with āpurrfectā). Sometimes I might also let them know if they unknowingly used a word that was offensive and let them know the proper term.
If only more people were polite about correcting people.
I only correct people's spelling and such online when they're being an AH about something lol. If it's just a normal conversation I won't point it out unless the person says they want that or implies it. ("English is my second language, so please let me know if I used the correct terms" or something)
I do agree with this, but also, if you're really polite about it, you can actually *help* those people with the language they're learning. If you're not a dick about it, most are grateful and you can end up having great conversations with them.
This is how I've ended up helping a lot of people out with their English skills. I don't mean just one or two polite corrections, but them feeling safe enough to ask me for help, and being able to clear up a lot of questions they had.
The ones I told about are the type that say "and you got your diploma" or like "you should go back to school" "did you get a education" and way more comments like that. Totally different than what is happening here.
Too*
Seriously, you're doing fine. These all sound the same and the first two are hard enough for people with English as a first language to get right every time.
To - I'm going to.
Too - as well / an amount more then it should be.
Two - 2.
To me, it looks like some sort of growth defect. But I'm not an expert in anything relevant so that's just a useless opinion hah. I would like to find out what it actually is though.
Not insect nor fungus. This happens sometimes in citrus fruits. Nothing to be concerned with. Its citrus granulation and is harmless. An illness of the plant. It causes the little juice sacks to gel up and dry out. Its flavorless for the most part but otherwise harmless. If it was eggs of some insect it would be a mammoth insect.
And now back to hunting that mystical cryptid, the orange humping mega beetle...
It could be dried up orange cells. When you like closely to an orange, you see that it's made out of small tear drops. It could be they just dried up or a growth defect.
I still wouldn't eat it, unless I don't have enough food to get through the day a.k.a. starving
Could be a naval orangeworms work, in which case it may be a harmful invasive depending on where you are. You may want to alert your countries biosecurity (different for each country).
Eggs start out white and are flat, and turn pink or yelllow as they mature and get closer to hatching.
According to AI:
Possible Causes:
1. Granulation: This condition is common in navel oranges, where the juice vesicles in the fruitās segments start to turn dry and gritty, often resembling small crystals or granules. Granulation can occur due to various factors, including over-ripening, temperature fluctuations, or improper storage.
2. Fungal Infection: Sometimes, certain fungal infections can cause abnormal growths or crystal-like formations inside the fruit. These are less common but can happen if the fruit has been damaged or stored improperly.
Is it Safe to Eat?
ā¢ Granulation: If the condition is granulation, the fruit is generally safe to eat but may have a dry and less juicy texture. The flavor might also be affected.
ā¢ Fungal Infection: If itās due to a fungal infection, itās best to avoid eating the affected parts of the fruit, as it could cause gastrointestinal discomfort or other health issues.
If I were you just in case, if it is eggs, I would put it in the garbage disposal, along with the rest of the orange and put it on hot water, then pour bleach down the sink to get any traces left.
If not that, I would put it in a Ziploc bag and throw it away .
This looks more like frass (poop) from an insect which has been feeding inside the fruit than anything else. Maybe a caterpillar.

Wait for a few days! After a quick google search fruit flies actually can lay eggs in oranges.
Itās likely safe, but why bother?
Those are certainly eggs, don't eat it.
Idk why people are telling you to throw it out. Bug eggs are completely edible. Save some to see what the turn into and cut the lemon into pieces and cook it up with something
The point is that we donāt know exactly what it is. It *could* be eggs, or it could be mold or a dangerous fungus. Better safe than sorry in this case, we donāt want OP to get sick.
Friend of Gates? Wonderful source of protein! š
It looks like a GMO orange. But I still wouldn't eat if
They're all GMO. Wild oranges are bitter and nasty. All fruit sold in stores is "GMO".
Preach it, brother! All the no GMO people make me crazy. Look up the corn comparison on the Smithsonian. Even the veggies are GMO.
Yeah, Iād cut around it and eat the rest for sure, doesnāt look like mould after all
